You’re absolutely right! Addicts need long-term support in treatment facilities geared for their specific problems. And the greatest need for mentally Ill people is supportive housing such as shared apartments with visits to a mental health center where they are provided with a psychiatrist and treatment team. Nursing homes don’t help these people and are the most expensive housing available ($50,000/year per person). A nursing home cannot provide the treatment these people need. I have seen people moved into supportive apartments get much better and get part time jobs in the community. Recovery is entirely possible with proper housing and community supports.

I think a housing crash in Wyoming will happen because all those people who bought homes over asking price, although it was at a low interest rate, they are over their heads. They have no equity if the housing prices continue to go down, and if for whatever reason they cannot afford the house anymore and it goes into foreclosure because even if they try to sell, they will not make any money. I think this will happen to a lot of people especially with the massive layoff predicted for the future and the cost of living rising at a high speed.

Casper resident here. This was basically an oversight. People were not paying attention to this property, which had closed some time ago. We allow our law enforcement and DA to do their work so these people are going to get nailed. Screw compassion, most homeless people ARE dope addicts and have dangerous mental illnesses.

I live in Casper and it is a beautiful and safe city. At times it can be eye opening. Like seeing a 70 year old grandmother with a gun strapped to her hip. Most people here don’t care, and just go about their business. I have never felt like I was in danger here. The mayor will handle this problem in a proper manner I’m sure.

(Including justified and non justified)(Excluding self inflicted) That’s 1/150th of 1% of the population. Those seem like good stats to me. Some would say removing guns would save those 20k a year. A criminal is a lot better off in CA than WY, simply due to the population. In WY, there are no jobs and small towns, so a criminal isn''t as likely to turn their life around there, where in California, it is possible. I wouldn't blame them at all for sending them there. Here in VT we had the same issue during the pandemic. Our local hotels had the same destruction. We're talking homeless, not illegal migrants. I knew a working homeless couple that did everything they could to get out of the hotel they were placed in. People wanted to smoke in the hotel, so they pulled out the smoke detectors in the whole wing. Obvious safety risk. Days after this couple were out, there was a fire. The government was obligated to find other shelter, while repairs were made. The true epidemic is mental illness (either organic or with drug use) & anti-social behavior (screw you, I do what I want).

Mentally I’ll people should not have been living in a hotel-they do much better in supportive housing like shared apartments with medication management and visits to a mental health center where they meet with their psychiatrist and treatment team. To constantly refer to this problem, as *'Homelessness,'* implies that putting a roof over the heads of these people will solve the problem. Call it what it is: an invasion of criminal street rats, drug addicts, and the mentally ill. Some need to go to jail. Some need to go to rehab. Some need to be cared for in institutions. Unless you see it for what it is, you'll never fix it.

It's no secret that inflation, and our economy is the worst it's ever been, so now you have more than just homeless individuals who are addicts, or who have mental health issues, you have a lot of people who simply can't afford rent, food, and bills. Sad situation, we have more "accidentally" and purposefully going to the Ukraine than it would take to restore maui, but ask the locals there how much help they got... instead of being defensive about your choice of who you voted for just take an unbiased look at what's been happening these past few years and let that guide your next voting decision.

I'm an old Wyomingite. You have to be tough to live out here. Casper and Jackson are the only cities that supported Brandon in all of Wyoming. Both have homeless and drug problems. Nobody else does, why is that? Doesn't matter anyway. You can't survive outside come winter. Last winter they saw -44 right near Casper. That's without windchill. The smart ones will go back home to Portland or Cali. The rest will be subjected to natural selection. Something Wyoming does well. By the way. Wyoming doesn't exist. There is nothing to see here. With 2 more years before retirement, we're looking to possibly move to South Dakota or southern Indiana where my daughter is located. I once had compassion. So did my Brother. He ended up with a trashed house that needed demolition. I ended up with someone staying in my house and no longer paying rent until the fight was taken to them. I don't have compassion any more. Well that's not true. I have learned to listen to my 'Gut' and I'll show compassion to those who my Gut thinks are ok. And not a single person otherwise.

I left home as a teenager with $1.35c in my pocket and all I had to live by was my two hands. I slept on the ground for the first two weeks of working on a gold mine where my job was with shovel and wheelbarrow. For years I hiked all around the country working tough jobs where ever I could find them and mostly in the harshest conditions anyone might know. To cut a long story short, I bought and paid for one house in a few years and less than 12yrs later I did the same with a second. Nobody gave me anything. Life needs hard work to be a success but some people think they deserve just what others have and yet they're too damned lazy to lift a finger to help themselves. Very common with 'first nations peoples'.

IIn my eastern Oregon town we have below zero temps for 3 months in the winter. In the wisdom or our city govt, they opened up a "warming Shelter". Now the word gets out to the homeless community and folks start to show up. Had some dude just walk up to my yard fence and look through the gate. He said someone was giving away free dog food. I sent him on his way. If you build it, they will come and ruin your town. That faculty is just down the street from me. Is the city going to reimburse me for my losses? Nothing wrong with helping people that want to get out of the homeless condition by working and getting off drugs. Some had financial disaster strike them but work to get housed and employed. The others are leaches.

Simple fix- Set up a city run Anti-Squatting registry. Home/business owners can register their property for a small fee to be a 'NEVER RENTED' structure. Squatters with their fake online rental agreements can be nulled and voided on the spot and removed.

NO AIRPORTS as their shelters. WHY? iCE/'SNOW, flights delay, our passengers need a safe place to lay down & rest on the floor. Sometimes re-route flights take 2-3 days, so NO airports. Public library, post office are also warm enough for homeless.
