You asked "what people are buying these for other than a security camera". I ordered the starter bundle a couple of days ago primarily for monitoring wildlife with the intent of ordering three more cameras if the first one doesn't totally flop. We have cougar, bobcat, fox, racoon, skunk, opossum, turkey, lots of deer, a nearby herd of elk, possibly a bear or two and myriad other critters that might yet to be seen. In our situation they should be adequate security cameras as well.
I have 9 wyze cams. Just tested the wireless and my major complaint is it doesn’t record continuously like the reg cams also detection area vs reg cam is very limited. I will be sticking with the reg cams for now. Been using reg cams outside for years with no issues.
Seems that right now, the Wyze "Cam Plus" plan gives options for unlimited event recordings (not just 12 seconds) and 0 cooldown time; so with that plan I guess with have a nice security camera :)
I think the biggest drawback is the cooling and not continuously recording. I bought two of these with the base when I receive them I connect one and then realize it’s not loop recording I’m not happy with them I don’t know in the future if they can do update on the software and add loop recording On the SD card and get rid of the cooling function. If You can do video playback whole day it will be nice. This was a nice review thank you I wish I saw this before I bought them.
Thanks for your candid review. I love my Wyze Pan and V2 cameras and wanted to buy this outdoors one, but have to stick to the current ones after so many negative reviews.
Outstanding review. I have one as well, not for security though. The only thing I disagree with is your use of the word "flaw". I don't think they are design flaws so much as they are a lack of a feature or capability. You can only get so much out of the cheapest battery operated camera available. I feel the same about all Wyze products (and I have many) they are great for what you pay for but if you want more robust features, pony up the cash!

I am currently only using my smartphone, but want a cheap, easily replaceable camera for use as a target camera on my gun range. I would like to have live view, but my only real requirement is no Wi-Fi or internet and sd card storage. Any suggestions?
I've been using the 'indoor' Wyze cams outside for about 2 years now. They work great if you have a decent silicone cover over them. No need for this outdoor version and its battery issues.
The outdoor version is good for those people who are going to use travel mode, such as myself. I will be taking it camping and placing it in my trailer
I was an early adopter and bought V1 some time ago. Of course it is wired so only used around the house primarily to monitor the dogs. I don't record and don't need notifications. I never attempted to put V1 outside and waited for this outdoor version. I agree is is very stout and quite heavy to be honest. I had it on the back patio again to monitor the dogs. Since the base must be plugged into the router it was a good distance from the patio. Result, a poor signal. I now just use it as another indoor camera, which is fine but not my initial intended purpose. Also, the battery is draining quite fast. Perhaps initially it drained quickly due to distance from base, I don't know. I toyed with buying a Wifi extender/booster but have never had good luck with those. And I thought about buying the kind of booster that has its own ethernet connection. My question then was: is plugging the base into an extender the same as plugging into the router? Not buying one to find out.
Yes, plugging it into the extender would work. There was someone on one of the Wyze Facebook groups did exactly that to get their camera working where they needed it. I’ve got 5 of the V2s that have been running for almost two years outside without issues.

You did not do the travel mode which is specifically the reason it was designed, and that little hiccup you received was probably because you did not go into travel mode. Also it is water resistant to not waterproof, had it failed it would not have been the cameras fall.
My experience is about the same as yours. It's a good fit for our intended use which is to check on the horses in the barn or when foaling in the spring, which we use the live vote feature for. But I agree, not useful as a security camera. I got 12 days battery out of mine.
I didn't hear you say anything about the 6 month battery? I thought you were going to test that. Some people are saying they only get a few weeks out of the battery.
Can’t you install sd card to record full footage? I never really had a problem retrieving footage after it records the 12 secs but the cool down did disrupt its ability to alert you of motion for a minute
I’ve got them. They are cheap and unreliable. The problems were from not being able to view recoded footage, doesn’t shoe there were alerts, always dropping connection, you think it’s streaming but it’s only a frozen still picture. Don’t count on them capturing video footage and/or the being able to view it
My indoor ones capture video daily and I view them when I'm no the road to see what's happening with the family and dogs. I can see when someone drives into and out of my garage and I can watch my animals in the pasture with my Pan Cam.
@@rileymay3556 wait until they stop working or the one feature you really need to work ( the recorded events) does not work or is just completely unreliable. Now you have cameras that you just cross your fingers and hope work when you need them. Wyze camera is far too busy reinventing the wheel of a bunch of different products and neglects its initial product that brought most of us here originally. So you can listen to a guy whose had cameras from the start or some guy who just says don’t listen to this guy. Wyze Cam and some of their brain washed sheep won’t let anyone gave a negative opinion. That is what you should be worried about.
Couple of months??? This just came out lol. It might not work as a security camera but it's great to just watch over something and if nothing you could have sold it.
When the base station is being setup it says connection failed, which is the same issue I am having? Nothing is mentioned on how the problem was fixed?
This camera is a pos. Battery needs to charged everyday. After charging it to 100% it goes right down to 94% in seconds. Its not recording even with cam plus. And a sd card. I think i either got a shit one. Or they all just suck. Waste of money. Dont buy this. Also. I email them and they never answer me and theres no number to call to talk to someone. Total rip off company
Well I’m not a huge fan of these cameras, that doesn’t sound right. Sounds like you got a bad one, I’ve been using mine in my backyard keep an eye on my koi pond, and with constant movement I still haven’t had to charge the thing in almost 2 months.
When you use any wireless camera use common sense. I use mine in the least traveled area, not pointing at the 🌞 🤪. I set it up on top of my gun safe that's stored in a closet. If someone comes in the gun safe I will have a 12 second clip of who it is. Now you can also use this with the Alexa app where Alexa can send notifications or make announcements. Pointing it at the sun in the direction of traffic well that can be a problem for most wireless cams. It's just using commons sense when using wireless cams specifically the wyze wireless cam. So far mines are working great no issues. Just waiting on updates. Hopefully the continuous recording. Ok so the thing is if you get a notification and you view your cam live and notice something illegal then press record. My wyze wifi cam has been up a month the battery is at 56%. It's because of me recording and playing with it but it's still very good battery life for the price. The good thing is that it's so cheap you can bye another for back up. When one is recharging the other takes its place so you have constant monitoring. Think about that. I will also be using this for hunting lol. This will be the eyes in the back of my head.
Well, I don't know much about security cameras at all. I saw these and ordered the base unit and 2 extras. I've received the extras, but not the base unit, yet (They were pre-ordered and pretty much sold out). So, I haven't even been able to try them yet. Could I get the original WYZE cam and use it along with these so I can have continuous loop? Or, will it not work with this Outdoor base?
To be fair, Wyze does not call this camera a security camera. They call it an outdoor camera. It certainly does have a number of uses that can't be beaten for the price though.
Mine almost reaches half way of the house... I put it in a useless place... I get 0 to 2 notifications a day... It’s day 17 and it’s at 75% on a 3 minute cool down... Mic is ok for what it is but speaker is trash, don’t bother trying to communicate with anyone because they won’t hear you and if they do they can’t make out what your saying... It’s ok I guess whatever, it is what it is but I just can’t recommend it to anyone...
When your outdoor cam records motion, do the IR illuminators get really bright then dim then bright for like the first 5 seconds of the clip until things stabilize? wyze cams are gimmicky for play around with but totally inadequate for anyone that wants a decent camera system.... far far better security camera options out there.
While I’m not a fan of these they don’t hog bandwidth. The only time any of Wyze makes cameras are transmitting data is when they are uploading the 12sec clips.
