Excellent honest review. Great points that are important to me like the way the cable works and the smaller field of view. I pre-ordered the pro version. I wish I saw this video before.
Yes me too. I pre-ordered. I dont like that smaller field of view. Still waiting to hear a review with audio comparison. But I think I'm not even going to open it, and send it back. :(
With Eufy 3 Cam release I decided I wanted a 4k camera that records locally and with the solar panels makes it so easy to install without worrying about running power to it.
@@MichaelVance so far yeah, with hats and hoodies it's that perfect but for a service running off a little base station works great and I dropped an SSD in it and now says I have space for a decade of recordings! 😂
I used to be a big proponent of Wyze - not anymore. I have 12 cameras operating, but rarely do they "operate". When firmware updates are released, you have to make the decision.. "do I really want to take a chance on this?" If you decide to update, sometimes you are rewarded with cameras that no longer operate the way they did just a few minutes earlier. Examples are delayed notifications, no notifications, settings changed, hard reboot required, etc. When cameras are located throughout the house with some outdoors, this "resetting" gets old fast. I'll never buy another Wyze product. I'm currently looking for something I can switch over to. Wyze used to do just cameras - and they worked well. These days, it seems they add a new product every month or so (scales, vacuums, night lights, gun safes, door locks, etc.) They want you in their ecosystem - but that ecosystem doesn't always work. No more Wyze for me.
I have a similar problem but I suspect it has to do with the app. When I open more than 2 cameras for example, the 3rd one I try to open doesn't load. I have a good phone (iphone 14 pro max) so it's possible that we might experience this because the app is not capable of having other cameras working in the background.
I agree, this was just a way for Wyze to increase the cost of their camera. They still have software issues with their products! You said in your comparison picture of the V3 and V3 Pro, that you couldn't see down the street on the Pro like you could on the V3, yet you had the Pro pointing more downwards, so that's not a fair comparison. Also, you said the add on light to the V3 uses stick on tape, which isn't true, it snaps in place.
The latest problem with the V3 pro is many cameras will not stream in 2 k during the day but will at night. Crazy. Wyze is aware of the problem & say they are working on a fix. I took down my Pro and put my V3 back up because it’s more dependable. Also the Pro’s Starlite sensor is very dark and not as good as the V3. Lots of things to work before the Pro is ready for prime time.
6 of my Wyze Can V3 Pro cams will lot livestream in HD. its always 360p. If I try to change it back to HD.The screen view turns to blue and green. Have you figured out why your cams were acting up? Did you figure out how to fix the problem?
Nighttime color rendition is very orange on the V3 Pro also. My V3 has very accurate colors at night with a similar use as yours, porch light always on, and camera looking toward the street.
Thanks for posting this video. You have answered some questions I have about the Pro V3. I am confused about the SD card function. Does it tag events without using Cam Plus? The Wyse promo material states that video is recorded directly to the SD card rather than going to the cloud but does not talk about identifying events.
@@MichaelVance Great video. Assume an SD card installed - Cam v3 Pro does not support "Cam Plus Lite", so instead of a 12 second video playback of an event, you only get a thumbmail. The 12 second event was a great way to know if the event needs more investigation. Not sure if the new Cam v3 Pro interface, with NO SUBSCRIPTION makes it easy to view video footage from an event or do you have to engage playback and slide the time. Even the Wyze forums are not clear what events are recorded with no subscription.
I think you're wrong about the FoV. Look at the bushes at the bottom of the view. You can see more of them in the Pro's view, and less in the V3's. Which would be why the Pro doesn't appear to see as far as the V3, because it's aimed down more. With that said, the FoV may be less on the Pro, I don't know. But that's what I noticed.
I completely agree with your review. I had to replace the cables from the original V3 with the new ones from the Pro because they wouldn't fit in the Pro. That was pain to have to run the wires again in this freezing temperature. So I was already angry when I noticed the narrower view of the Pro. On top of that during the day I could see further with the original V3 but with the Pro it gets too bright and I can't see as far as I used to see with the V3. I have 12 wyze cam and I was excited to replace them all with the Pro but I won't and I don't recommend anyone else to replace your good original V3 for the Pro. Actually avoid buying the Pro. The original V3 is a lot better.
Oh man, I’m sorry to hear that! I ended up getting some more of the limited edition black v3s with the money I got from returning the pro. Happy holidays and stay warm!
Thanks, was waiting for a review like this. Glad my v3's are still relevant. Disagree with the software part when it comes to their cameras. They have a very good track record on supporting old hardware.
Hi, good video man, got a question I'm getting a wyze cam v3 in the mail soon . I was wondering if I am able to use my USB port on my smart tv to power the camera? Bc I don't have a electric outlet where I want to. mount the camera. Thanks
It may be possible, I believe that the v3 pro draws a little more power than the v3. You'll probably want to double check what the output of your USB port is on your TV.
I think you missed the feature on the Pro version having built-in AI instead of going to the cloud in the standard V3 for notifications, I think gives you same but quicker on the PRO? Good review, thanks for sharing.
Hi JamesVR6, you're totally right. The brief side by side I showed was at night, but based on my specific setup since I have porch lights on at night. I think if you already have a V3, I'd just buy the accessory, but if you don't have a camera and want the spotlight, buying the pro could make sense.
could you give me a little guidance as to which providers for internet and Wi-Fi services are best compatible with this camera? I'm on a budget but just wanted a camera for inside my apt while I'm gone.. thank you.
Hi Jy! Any internet service provider should work, I’d just recommend looking for speeds of 25mbps or higher. I think the V2 or the V3 camera from Wyze would be what you are looking for, your router just needs to support the 2.4ghz band (almost all routers do).
I’m waiting for my camera still. That said, the events thing is hardware based I believe there is a ai built into that camera. So the camera detects the people where as on v3 footage was processed by cloud then tagged. I’m not sure if the v3 could get that by software update or if there is a hardware limitation. So that’s where the difference would be. The camera may directly tag the recorded events giving you the ability for that separate view? But in the same respect it looked kinda similar to some of their security subscription ui which I don’t currently have so may not be a valid comparison
I totally agree Adam. I noticed that for person detection notifications, it took about the same amount of time for both cameras. I'm not sure there is much of a benefit based on how things are currently setup.
You can use CamPlus lite and choose $0/month and get person detection on the V3 for free. The pro doesn’t work with CamPlus Lite (currently) and it only sends you thumbnails for free.
Seems really shady the lack of software changes to the older models , removal of rtsp, the proprietary cable for waterproofing, and of course the forced subscription if you want cloud clip notifications. I'd rather pay more for the camera itself if it came with all those things undone. Will stick with v3 until v4 or they remove features with firmware updates like they normally do
I have three battery cameras: a Wyze Outdoor Cam, a Ring Stickup Cam Battery with solar panel, and a Hiseeu WTD803 (includes solar panel). Because they don’t have continuous, unlimited power like their wired siblings, they are always function limited. For example, the Wyze and Hiseeu cameras both have SD cards, but the Wyze camera won’t let you record continuously to the card (I’m not sure if it records anything on the card); the Hiseeu does allow continuous recording, but it really puts a strain on the battery; the Ring Stickup doesn’t allow SD cards. Also, the Passive Infrared (PIR) sensors, used to reduce battery consumption, miss a lot of events that are normally detected by image analysis. I know there are scenarios where 115 VAC isn’t available, but if I really needed a camera there, I would either use a car/motorcycle/lawn mower battery or I would run power.
My V3 Pro is much better. less false notifications, BETTER Clearer detail including WORDS License Plates are better, Faster and its New so any bugs can be fixed with a firmware Like Dark areas in the distance is just a contrast software issue not hardware. V3 has been out for 2 years and has been tweaked with firmware. Im keeping all my 8 PRO cameras and selling my v3
"Less false notifications..." Yes, but I see more "NO notifications" than I used to. Then a firmware fix gets released and works until the next firmware update. Wyze just isn't what it used to be. If they work for you, that's great.
You can't see the neighbor because it's pointed further down, you can see a entire square of sidewalk on pro, on 3 only a piece is showing, and 2 rows of shrubs vs just 1.… they are the same fov.….
What he says about the SD card has happened in my situation which is a serious matter! The landlord stole the Sd card to cover some of the nefarious things that they were engaging in. So for this reason i wouldn't recommend any Wyze cam for anyone that will be away for long periods. If anyone can tell me how to access footage from a Wyze cam that is a few months back please let me know in a response to this comment, Thanks 👍
you dont have to look for events frame by frame bro..its super easy and works flawlessly..setup ur camera to record 24x7 then simply go to ur events tab and when u find the event you want look at the time and go check it out in ur recordings... e z p z bro!! hope this helps!!!
You over exaggerated the field of view comparison. Look how much lower you have the v3 pro aimed. Don't try to fake news things that are not true. The field-of-view is not that much off.
Thanks for the feedback Gordon. I think I was just surprised to learn that there was a difference in the field of view at all, I thought it would be the same as the V3 and I was a little disappointed.
