I grew up with the other Marvel 90s shows and as a completionist decided to watch the original animated series before starting 97. Some high highs there, but also some rather low lows. Kinda like the original Star Trek that way. There was a backstory episode of Rogue where she touched Carol Danvers with the latter ending up in a coma and rogue somehow getting her abilities permanently. Now back the X-Men '97. It's the best thing since sliced bread.

I enjoyed it because there's basically no filler content, but it just moves so fast that there's almost no suspense. Literally laugh out loud when they were like "Oh, I know who the bad guy is" cuts to the next scene arriving at the bad guy's house 😂

Haha same. Things are rushed is my biggest complaint. Could be worse but its very noticeable.

There's something about Fox made films or superhero films of the early 2000s that often adapted the most toxic and dark story possible while not letting characters embrace the core of their character in lieu of attempting to be someone's idea of "cool." It turned them into movie caricatures of their former selves. X-Men 97 embraced the character and gave us the best of what works in comics. That's why it's a success.

I understand the 9 from people but from a new X-man fan. I would give it a strong 8. So many things happen and no time to breath. Goblin queen? Jean recovery? Storm losing powers, leaving team, in love after what? A week. Magneto good, bad, Xavier alive in space, back to team, I understand the team knew he was alive but it was just thrown in quickly. There's other I wish had just a few more minutes to flush things out. Episode 5 easily a 10 out of 10 but wish it was a Two Parter. Too much happen. It still hit hard and that ending. Wow! Don't get me wrong. It was a great first season and maybe for long time fans it hits harder and better then for a newcomer.

X-Men 97 is a perfect example of a disconnect between fans of a show or IP, and normies. I've been a life-long X-Men fan, but I was a wee bit too old when the original animated series came on. The kiddy aesthetic, particularly the voice styling, was a big barrier for me. The animating LOOKED spot on, but the voices were of an aesthetic that has never resonated with me (ha! unintentional sound joke!). Flash-forward to 2024 and we get X-Men 97. I was very eagerly looking forward to this, hoping the vocal choices of the original were just a product of the times. But... the voices are the very aspect of the show that most directly ties back to the original. The first time I heard Magneto open his animated mouth, I cringed. The voices were (for the fans) a feature, not a bug. And that's when I had to get off the X-Men 97 train... mostly. I became very invested in how much all the super fans of this show truly loved what X-Men 97 was doing, with the headlines and RU-vid titles like "Best Thing Marvel Studios Has Ever Made." So I've watched these videos even though I can't watch the episodes themselves. I find I'm getting an appreciation of the show I wouldn't be able to if I'd actually watched the episodes. Even the clips from the episodes, the voiceover work is like fingernails on a chalkboard. It's... not good. But it's a choice the show has made that fans love. I get it and respect it and am not demanding change. Gently requesting change, maybe. But my point is, this show is the perfect example of how fervent fans of something are simply unable to see it as the outside world sees it. It's fine that there's a differing of opinion. We ALL love stuff that large chunks of the population shrug at, or actively dislike. I remain utterly baffled at the revisionist history surrounding Phantom Menace. But I respect that there are superfans who love it, warts and all, with the warts being a feature, not a bug. But as to X-Men 97, I keep seeing this narrative where the superfans of this show are themselves baffled that there are people who don't love this show and sing its praises as being a legit, straight-up, masterpiece. For people like me, X-Men 97 is a curiosity, a relic that has been unearthed and and spiffied up and re-presented to the public. But to us (and apparently large swaths of the normie public) it will never be a masterpiece because of the choice to lean into the painfully stilted scripting and line readings of the early 90s. I will continue to watch other people enjoying this show to the max, even if I will never be able to join in fully. It makes me sad. But it helps me understand people who are simply baffled at my own love of the MCU or Star Wars or any other genre work.

1:50 What idiot would think the art is the same? It's like years ahead of the original and is more true to Jim Lee's work while being its own thing.

The names goblin Queen and Madeline Pryor were terribly shoe horn and but the episode was better than the whole comic book ark

Here's a fact humanity would not like buttons whatsoever p we would fear them we would despise them we would be jealous of them we would not want them roaming around free to do as they please

It might have been fun in the comics but I don't want to see storm powerless any more than they put in the show that was plenty for me and the most boring part of the show it was still good I still enjoyed it just not as much as the rest
