X Men 97: Cable & Bishop made Bastion 

In the Xmen tas, Cable is from a different future to bishop. Bishop is from 2055 and Cable is from from the year 3999 according to time fugitives in season 2.

Dear Marvel Comics, Hire Rob as a writer. He utilizes the HELL out of existing continuity and makes everything connects AND makes sense. Like donnie Cates.

Another bit that supports Bastion being the big baddie is that in the comics the story arc that had him launching a huge operation against mutants was titled Operation Zero Tolerance, and the three parter that fineshes the season of X-Men 97 are titled "Tolerance is Extinction", Plus that story arc in the comics ran in 1997!

I remember in X-Men TAS that Mystique told Rogue that assassinating Kelly was Apocalypse's idea, and as he was her boss, she got the order to do it. The idea was to ensure a war between humanity and mutants.

I don't mean to out nerd you or anything, but Mystic says something to Rogue in the days of Future past episode along the lines of Apocalypse will punish her for not killing Senetor Kelly and humans and mutants not getting what they deserve so Apocalypse was behind the assassination attempt. I still like the bastion theory not something i had thought of.

This is almost exactly what I've been saying to friends ever since I saw the new intro scenes in episode 6, where there's a Nimrod standing inside Master Mold and we also see the scenes of Nimrod getting destroyed from Ones Man's Worth. It has to be Bastion. Also like you said Task was shot from behind by what appears to be a weak standard sentinel blast, while Mr Sinister appears in front of him. It's a misdirect. They'll work Bastion into the timeline. However it shakes out, it's fun to discuss and speculate! Thanks for the vid!

Actually, it was explained in Part-2 that Mystique was on orders from Apocalypse to assassinate Kelly, "to give the human race the future it deserves'.

We DO know why Mystique tried to kill Senator Kelly- she tells Rogue it was Apocalypse who ordered it, to provoke a war between mutants and humans. Also, I think you're forgetting about the other time-travel episode where Apocalypse tricks the Friends of Humanity into unleashing an anti-mutant plague. (and lastly, anger is not the opposite of fear- especially in this case, the anger stems from fear)

Bastion being the big bad is no surprise. Bastion has been in every episode of X-Men97. He's even in the picture of Dr Adler @6:38 If you go back and watch the shows you will see him even before his big reveal. Also Bastion is the natural story arc for sentinels, its clear that what this season was focused on from the start. I do not believe Cable or Bishop made him, I think just like in the last case, Nimrod came from the future and merged with an in orbit Master Mold. Bastion points out there is a Satellite in orbit that "they" repaired that the X-Men use to communicate with the Shiar, why would he even know this? Even Sinister did not know about. Clearly Bastion has been spending considerable time in space.

I gotta say, Rob, I was thinking the same thing when I saw Bastion's face covered in the photo. That's the benefit of the show having another 30 years of X-Men comics to borrow from.

The only reason Sinister is working for Bastion is the prize he was promised has to be a captured Cable. Mr. Sinister got his powers from Apocalypse due to their shared obsession with mutant evolution. They both want to take over the world, but Sinister refuses to live in Apocalypse’s shadow. However he’s not strong enough to defeat his master, but smart enough to create a living weapon, Cable to do the job. I’m sure Sinister thinks he can easily use and dispatch Bastion; Bastion likewise believes his true masterpiece, probably an upgraded version of himself with powers like the live action DOFP Sentinels, will make short work of both Sinister and his puppet Cable.

The sinister point occurred to me as well.

Can you do a series about the most obscure Marvel heroes and villains ever? Side characters who made an appearance in only one page, in one comic, back in the 1960s, as an example. It would be a very, very fascinating deep dive into the encyclopedia of nearly forgotten characters in the Marvel universe! Cheers!

In the TAS, Mystique was working for Apocalypse in Season 1. That includes the Senator's abduction. IIRC, she said that the attempt to help the Senator with all the rest of his living was Apocalypse's idea. So, either it was actually Apocalypse or it was your theory of it being Bastion.

Bastion is in a picture with Forge assumingly when he was working for the government. There's also a photo of X-Force but all anyone talks about is the picture of Forge in his swimming trunks. Also, in episode 5, right before the real chaos begins, you can see someone on the balcony with grey/silver hair and hints of magenta on his clothing walking away. Great direction for an animated series 🎉

I know this would never happen but, imagine a X-men x justice league crossover comic book with a fused bastion and brainiac? Brainiac wanting to keep genosha where as bastion wants mutants dead which could make a good conflict of interests between the two villains . Like imagine brainiac controlling the master sentinel or nimrod?

The thing about Câble and Bishop being responsible for Bastion, in the original TAS and Comics, Câble and Bishop are separated by 1000 years in the future However, we are in a continuos alternate thread as Bishop is présent to take Câble into the future. If Bastion is the motivation behind all the main attacks it can make sense as fate/time is finding à way to reveal Bastion behind it. That's if we take this time theory as really from the TAS first épisodes Câble and Bishop do not know of each others existence Perhaps, Apocalypse is the one as Bastion controlling? In the intro they keep referring to the scene of Câble firing at Apocalypse in his Pyramid for the season 4 finale épisodes

Once Nimrods time anchor band was destroyed, HOW did he get back to his future time? Is it possible that he slinked away in the present and found Master Mold to propose the new plan? The plan to fuse together since their first plan failed?

The reason that sentinels turned on humanity was because Master Mold decided that humans are the root of all mutants and that like mutants, humans needed to be eliminated.

Just saw episode 7… I think you’re close. Yes Bastion is the villain we see right now. But there’s one continuous thread you forgot linking the original animated series to 97 & Bastion all together: Forge is the traitor. - picture with Bastion - communicates with future self - gave Bishop intel back in 92 that Gambit was the mutant traitor - Gambit’s death would have lead to Bastion or Apocalypse resurrecting and brainwashing him sooner - was unbothered by the mutant attack in Genosha - seemed to want to make Storm reliant on him. His creations always work. But her powers didn’t come back until after she completed a trial seemingly set up by Forge - he immediately banished the adversary - he is the architect not just behind the technology to remove powers (that probably harvests Leech’s abilities which is why attacks always happens wherever he is) but also created the sentinels. - Forge being mutant/man and machine himself basically is the prime sentinel. Villains often think they’re doing the right thing after all. He “had to do it, didn’t have a choice” all the same excuses he made even back in the original series.

The first thing I said after episode six was Sinister would not kill an island of mutants, he would somehow establish himself in the shadows to run experiments. A bunch of dead mutants is a waste for Sinister.

I think Bastion also makes sense thematically. The ultimate enemy isn't humanity or aliens or the forces of evolution, it's the conflict we create through our hate and prejudice and a destiny of violence. The sentinels are the result of and manifestation of that hate in physical form, and Nimrod and/or Bastian represent destiny. They exist to kill mutants for existing and they aim to ensure their future comes to pass.
