They totally screwed up Apocalypse in this movie. Wrong actor, wrong interpretation of the character, wrong approach. This was absolutely nothing like the comic book character. The one from the TV cartoon show was way better.

Apocalypse is a character that you have to build up, like Thanos. Introducing him & killing him off in the SAME MOVIE was not the right decision.

He is Immortal and cannot be destroyed, he will enter another Realm. Until summoned by the disciples of Apocalypse. That fool that directed this movie portrayed him incorrectly towards the end...

The TRUE Phoenix was a cosmic entity that spent ages looking for its perfect host until find Jean Grey. That is the TRUE origen of the Jean Grey / Phoenix. Also, the crappy writting from recent years in Marvel, is due to a lack of good writers and also because Marvel as soon as Disney bought it, decide to dismantle away elements from X-men and pass from other comic book characters because the cinematic rights of the mutants were with Fox. The Phoenix was one of the first victims, because it was a easy ones. In other words theres basically two versions of the Phoenix.

You sure? I feel like the line makes no sense in the movie. Like what is being “revealed” to him? During the whole movie Apocalypse never had any great fascination or apprehensions about Jean. Nor about the Phoenix Force. Nor about some potential mutant out there even more deadly than him. He wasn’t interested in any of those things. If he was then the line could work because he’d finally be witnessing the very thing he was so worried about. But his focus was on Charles’ telepathy powers for the entire climax of the film. He could not have given less of a f*ck about Jean or her powers. So why is Jean unleashed being treated as if it’s some grand revelation he’s having that finally connected the dots for him? It’s not really a poetic line… just a kinda weird, generic death line but without any setup.

@@MereImitation What was revealed was the true power behind the newly formed X-Men, he thought Charles was the brains and the power, but actually the real power was in Jean Gray with the Pheonix Force, he didn't know until that point so couldn't even take it into account when fighting the X-Men.

That's _exactly_ my problem with the movies trying to take on the Phoenix. The 90's cartoon, camp and cheesy as it may be, dedicated two five-episode runs to the Phoenix, starting with the Phoenix Saga in one season and then doing Dark Phoenix Saga in another. That's 200 minutes dedicated _only_ to those arcs. And then, around those, you had various "filler" episodes that dealt with Jean becoming the Phoenix's host in the first place, her growing power and attempts to control it, and her death and rebirth, and interspersed that with the _other_ characters' reactions to it. And the movies then tried to take what was easily upwards of 300 minutes of storyline and try to condense it all into a single 2.5 hour movie, maybe with a nod to the Phoenix in the preceding movie (Jean wreathed in fire in X2 or this scene in Apocalypse - though X2 did well to show her power getting more and more uncontrollable over its course), and then wonder why we're dissatisfied with the end result.

The Phoenix force was extremely weakly portrayed in this, was WAY more epic in the comics, was hugely disappointing, so far above that power level, if she let go not only was he dead in an instant, so was maybe the whole planet haha, l;iterally destroyed every universe and re created them while cocooning Galactus because he was integral to every universe. Need Denis Villenueve to redo it haha.

I like Famke Jansen as Jean, but what they did there was even worst, so in terms of cohesion with the source material, actually both X Apocalypse and Dark Phoenix in fact get close to the source material, than Last Stand, also, one thing folks NEED to undersand is that Althoug Disney had the rights to all Marvel supers, they didn't have the cinematographic rights from the X-Men, wich was with Fox, and also Fox didn't have the cinematographic rights to the other Marvel super heros. That is the problem with the X-Men movies is that the writers were trying to condensate a lot of the X-Men stories into movies, this isn't an easy task, but you could blame Fox for fail with the X-Men a lot of times. But again, on the whole, they did make some pretty good movies X1 and X2 are very good movies, First Class is a good movie... Logan is and awesome movie (despite all other Wolverine movies that sucks...), DeadPool is awesome too. I'm actually scared with what Disney would do... i don't trust them... BUT here is the deal, if they want to give the PUBLIC the phase 5 (i guess) the X-Men must come in full force and they should make the most PERFECT adaptation of the Dark Phoenix saga...

@@darthwiizius this is precisly where folks get wrong the movies, most people didn't understand that in fact First class is pass in the 70's, pryor to X1, X2, and Last Stand. Then Days of Future past is where the timeline gets rearranged, and the X-Men changed, this X-men we saw in the new movies are set in the 80's (or 90') if i'm not mistaken while X1, 2, and Last Stand are in the 2000's. To understand all this movies you need to watch them in them in chronological order...

In the current timeline it goes First Class, then Days of Future Past which, from the perspective of young Charles and Erik is set in the 70's then their timeline moves on to Apocalypse, in which this version of Jean makes her debut with a connection to the Phoenix Force already established as we can see here and then their timeline moves on to Dark Phoenix, where she gets the Phoenix Force. Something doesn't add up. She either already had the Phoenix Force or she didn't. The events of Days of Future Past change nothing about the time between Apocalypse and Dark Phoenix. Days of Future Past established a timeline in which the Sentinels weren't built by Trask and didn't push mutants to near extinction. The OG X-men movies were leading to a future where that was happening. Then after DoFP, that future is averted by Wolverine, but it changes nothing else in the timeline of these movies. It has no effect on the Dark Phoenix storyline.

That's not what "all is revealed" means. Apocalypse believes in survival of the fittest and he saw himself as the most worthy to survive. Through the Phoenix, Jean is powerful on a scale even he cannot comprehend. Apocalypse's revelation is that even he is not exempt from his "survival of the strongest" philosophy. That's why he stopped resisting, because in his eyes Jean deserves to live and he doesn't.

You didn't like it? Hahha. I only know Apocalypse from the animated series but he's my favorite mutant too. I think they did him dirty in this movie. I wanted him to grow huge outside of just the mind battle he had with Professor X and see all the mutants try to take him down or at least a bit more of a back and forth.

@@bigd7696 I guess it depends on what universe you're talking about. Because in the issue I read it most certainly worked that way. Galactus lost and then pointed at the world the dark pheonix devoured as asked how she was any different than him.

I prefer THAT apocalypse because, now the MCU basically has a hail Mary pass against any villain except dark Phoenix. The only three characters whom were noted later as being more powerful are the one above all, the living tribunal and the one below all. Possibly Franklin Richards too but the point being the only one of those who is evil is the one below all and they cannot put him in any movie thus there is no longer any real feeling of threat...

Apocalypse not only was created much later in the comics (in the 90's) but also most of the times that he faced Jean she wasn't with the Phoenix, it was only Jean. But this trend started i believe in the 2000 when they brought back the Phoenix Franklin wasn't even born during the Dark Phoenix saga (just saying). It's moddern Marvel bs writing screwing with Jean and the Phoenix, shting on the legacy of Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, not the other way around...

You mean in the movies or comics? In the movies it's merely storytelling reducing his power for story purposes, so that other characters can get their moment. In the comics he's not an omega level mutant, which is a mutant who has no limits to their power. Jean is stronger than Xavier in psychic powers, because she has no limit. However, it should be pointed out that Xavier with Cerebro helmet becomes an omega level mutant, but that can be considered a boosting effect, and anyone who gets boosted can get to the no limit level. But recently, in the comics, it has been hinted that Xavier is an omega level mutant but he has several self-created barriers to limit his own power, so that if he ever goes rogue or lose control it's not endgame for everyone else.

It's called a conscience, which for some reason he has. Also, if he is about to kill someone, he can see inside their heads to feel their fear as he is clamping down. He can literally feel what he is doing twice - once from HIS viewpoint, once from the VICTIM'S viewpoint. It's the most wicked of feedback loops. The question isn't whether he can stand up to anyone else, but whether he can stand up to himself.
