+James Sheppard They are... to Wolverine. He lived those and the films exist as an alternate timeline much like Spock Prime and the new Trek films. Or even Marty McFly continuing back in the altered 1985 despite hi. being raised in another. It took those events to happen for the character to get to that point in time.

Also, tonally it was all over the place (quicksilver scene was awesome and hilarious but diminished the weight of the havoc's death) sometimes the tone would do a complete 180. Also the writing felt cheesy (not in a good way) at times, especially with apocalypse and mystique. But besides some characters not getting the time they deserve (JUBILEE!) I didn't have a lot of other criticisms

this is always the core of the X-Men but the characters have been through ''places'',for instance in the beginning of DOFP Charles is totally fucked up,or in this movie Magneto is fine with the humans,so much that he saves one from certain death.
@tylerskiss

you're not wrong. I still enjoyed the film, but it is getting old. Hopefully, that's what the stinger was setting up. Mister Sinister could replace Magneto as the go-to bad guy and as long as the series a- doesn't defeat him in one film (a big problem with Apocalypse and Age of Ultron is they introduce these world-wrecking bad guys, but never let them become any sort of real threat) and b- he remains set in his ways and doesn't constantly flip flop like Magneto.

not even close. captain america and the avengers do a good job of disturbing the spotlight to every character. you cant say the same with all these xmen films xmen have been mostly about xavier, magneto, and wolverine. thats 16 years of the same shit over and over again. now that you dont see wolverine anywhere you now get mystique instead. deadpool did more for colossus then xmens film franchise ever did.

the forest scene was just perfect. I loved how the policemen weren't even portrayed as evil or anything. they just wanted to apprehend a possible mass murderer. even the arrow shot wasn't a deliberate killshot. that police man was just scared shit less and let go of the bowstring. even the police chief looks at him like "wtf did you DO?!?!?!?!" very great scene.
@Scrumshiz
@Scrumshiz 6 лет назад
Seeing Magneto's family die didn't really hit me as well as the film wanted it to because I think it happened too early in the film. Had it been in the second half, Magneto's bond with them might have been more fortified and so it felt more like a plot device to send him back into brood mode.

I felt the writing in this movie was really inconsistent. Especially when they are in cerebro and Hank says "he's connected!!!" (with the slow zoom in to his face) I shook my head. That's just one example but there are many more. And the pacing was all over the place. And WTF Psylocke (Olivia Munn) fought for like 2 seconds in the whole movie and she said she trained for sword fighting for months. I didn't hate this movie, but I was disappointed overall.

Apocalypse in this movie really reminded me of how they did Ultron in Avengers 2. It wasn't a bastardization of the character in the way Doomsday was in a certain other superhero movie, but it was a little anticlimactic. Not terrible by any means though. Hopefully when Thanos happens in the MCU, it'll be as badass and insane as we all want.

I'd argue that Apocalypse is a lot more menacing than Ultron though. Some of Apocalypse's lines work pretty well and to be fair I found him to be pretty generic in any version he's appeared in. Loved his: "You fire you arrows from the Tower of Babel, but you can NEVER. STRIKE. GOD." line.
@hughg.rection3628
@hughg.rection3628 8 лет назад
I agree with your comparison, but once he started uploading information from a TV set , I was like , " Yup, better than Ultron" Lol Apocalypse was definitely far more menacing and probably a slightly better villain ( who managed to do some actual damage like break quick silvers leg) but nonetheless one note

most comments saying they hated this movie almost definitely (not all) probably read the reviews before seeing this movie. I avoided reviews and loved this movie, chris obviously didnt see the reviews since he saw it that early. I just feel like the unjustly low rotten tomatoes score (being so low because a lot of critics probably dont follow xmen as much) left people with bad expectations.

I didn't read the reviews in detail but I was very much aware of them. So I went in very concerned about what it would be. That probably colored my view of the movie for at least the first 45 minutes or so. But it eventually won me over and I might even call it my favorite X-Men film. I'm going to need to see it again at some point to be sure as DFP was also fantastic.
@AlejandroGarcia-kt1ob
@AlejandroGarcia-kt1ob 8 лет назад
I kind of liked the movie, still I understand the reviews, I'm a fan of Jlaw, but i think she don't add anything, she uses plot-teleporting just to be exactly where she should be, she is kind of katniss again, suddenly she is a leader, gives speechs and stuff, it was weird, idk.
@SciAntGaming
@SciAntGaming 8 лет назад
Why is no reviewer talking about Nightcrawler and most probably the most amazing scene in all the X-Men movies? When he saves Xavier and isn't shown teleporting how we see it but is shown from his point of view, where he goes through space and time or another dimension! It was so absolutely brilliant even if it was 2 seconds.

Poad77 Doesn't mean he's clean of his crimes either. People still remember him killing people in the previous movies and all those polices that went to confront him. Hence the "*surprised* that he aided in the defeat of the mutant". The goverment knows the end of the world was caused by magnetism, so they know totally him. They just didn't arrest him, like how they didn't last time.

@dimavasilev5342
@dimavasilev5342 8 лет назад
The treatment of the horsemen and some of the side characters felt like tokenism. I mean, it felt like Apocalypse went "I want the strongest mutants as my horsemen - the first four mutants I meet will do." They really needed another film between DOFP and Apocalypse to allow some proper impact with the Horsemen. One of the only films recently that I'd say should have had two parts.

I can't believe chris liked this movie. it was so unfocused. there were set ups with no pay offs. characterisation was skin-deep for literally every character. it was so meandering and pointless. tons of plot holes. moira's character was totally useless. the finale was a cluttered mess of unconvincing cgi. unlike first class and dofp there are no real world implications and consequences to what happens. normal people are just faceless, nameless fodder and the government plays no role in any of it. jennifer lawrence as mystique was god. awful. apocalypse looked beyond cheesy and the wolverine cameo was awkward, overtly telegraphed and silly. the end fight scene had no good action whatsoever and was a cluttered mess that went on and on. also sophie turner's accent and acting were unbearable. all in all it felt like a superhero movie made a decade ago.

This movie has so many issues: Its about saving the world again and the stakes have never been lower. Just because a character is called Apocalypse that doesn't mean there has to be a literal apocalypse. Xmen works better is there is inter character conflict not saving the world again tropes. The four horsemen: Are non characters they are just sort of there and have no qualms about potentially destroying the world. No conflict at all and Psylocke was just window dressing and then sort of just walks off at the end. Forced cameos. Stryker showing up suddenly to kidnap the Xmen just so we could have the cameo from Wolverine was so telegraphed and so shoehorned it hurt. Jean Grey and Cyclops: The actors and characters came off as so bland and cardboard that we were better off without them. No chemistry whatsoever. The timeline. Its so askew at this point. Xmen First Class was in 1963 and yet Havok has a teenage brother in 1983 that makes no sense. Also they didnt use the time period well enough and with the costumes they wore it could have been set in the 90s.
@mgmeason3819
@mgmeason3819 8 лет назад
If Havok was a teenager in 1963 then having a teenage brother in 1983 makes no sense. In fact singer agrees. “Yes, the timeline is different. It wouldn’t physically fit for him to be the brother of Cyclops. We take some liberties on that.'

X-Men Apocalypse was amazing IMO because of the following reasons: 1) Xavier and Magneto (Terrific performances and clever use of powers) 2) Jean Grey/Phoenix was well portrayed this time. 3) Cyclops was back, and was a strong leader again. 4) Storm had decent accent, Mohawk and was taller than Halle Berry. 5) Wolverine did a berserker that I was finally happy with! Weapon X! 6) Quicksilver had more to do, and remained awesome! 7) Psylocke, Nightcrawler and Jubilee looked like the comics. 8) The final showdown was more spectacular than previous movies.

Not liking the movie has nothing to do with not having seen the rest of the series recently. It's not a good movie. It's that simple. No need to invent a reason just because you liked it. This franchise needs to be rebooted. Yes, even after the current reboot. We want XMEN, not Xavier, Magneto, Wolverine, and Mystique. Jesus I am so sick of those assholes hogging the spotlight in every X-Men movie. Storm, Psylocke, and Angel barely get any screentime, let alone actual lines. Jubilee is nowhere to be seen. Even young Jean, Scott, and Kurt don't get much attention. And when you finally think these new young X-Men are going to fight and pull off a rescue, they cram Hugh fucking Jackman right back into the spotlight to see him do what we've seen him do in every other fucking movie. Oh look, Mystique is a tortured soul! Oh look, Magneto is allying with the X-Men then betraying them, or vice versa. Oh look, Mystique and Charles are pleading with Magneto to change his ways. Oh look, Wolverine is getting shot and it isn't hurting him. Now he's stabbing people with his claws!!! Give us a fucking break for the love of Jack Kirby and Stan Lee. The Quicksilver scene was great, but strange. A little too light-hearted for what was going on. Apocalypse was lame. Super-powered enough to turn things to dust and insta-kill people around him, except when fighting the X-Men. And a couple of lines from Mystique equals the weight of Magneto's tragedy that everyone is fawning over? LMAO. Magneto is the Two-Face of this cinematic universe; whenever it's time for him to make a choice he flips a coin. Please, let this shitty franchise die already. It's ok. It served us in the beginning, before comic book movies were really a thing. Now we know better. Now we can do better. Let this inadequate imagining of the X-men end with this movie and do it right the second time around.

Bro, I feel you. I wanna see X-MEN, not the Mystique show. How come every other outlet of X-Men may it be video games, or cartoons do it soooo much better, yet the movies can't do it? I understand they're on a time limit, but I could get more from a 8-page X-Men comic strip then from these movies
@RyanKhanna
@RyanKhanna 8 лет назад
While I understand where you're coming from, it's not easy to get screen time for every x-men character. This movie would be 3 hours or longer if they gave screen time to every person in these movies and thats why its kind of hard to get the x men just right. The only real way to get them right is with either a tv show or basically all its comics. Until then, I feel the movies are doing the best they can to give as many x-men the spotlight

I thought the movie was fine. Choppy editing and visual effects were decent. But the thing that irked me the most was the exposition-heavy dialogue. Like characters were describing what exactly happening. A scene I remember the most was the bunker scene with all the military people in which they dramatically described what was currently happening.
@ge2719
@ge2719 8 лет назад
whats happening? whos firing the nukes? It's the men THEMSELVES! said some random guy we never see again who would have no way of knowing that... and that isn't even exposition for us, its entirely pointless, we know why what is happening was happening. yet they felt like throwing lines like that in to explain it to who? people who werent paying any attention at all to the movie? yeah, thats sort of thing made this movie so needlessly bloody annoying. Editt - or the force field thing on the helicopter that we absolutely had to know that nightcralwer couldn't jump through, which amounted to nothing and the next scene they are in they just got out somehow when they arrived where they wanted to go. ...

AwfulMusik it just didn’t hold up to Days if Future Past. The stakes, although presented as high, don’t really feel the same, it just didn’t have the dark tone and scale of Future past. Since in Future past he world has already ended. And this villain has little to no motivation other then “TV say humanity bad” and “ everything they built will fall!!!”

Disagree with the review overall although I kind of liked the movie nonetheless. Apocalypse has nothing interesting about him. He doesn't have a personality, he doesn't have a reason, he doesn't have anything apart form his motto of having the strong rule or whatever. He's an empty shell, not a person. He was a terrible villain, in fact he's basically a natural disaster more than a villain. But the difference is, disaster movies focuses on the relationship between the people trying to survive the disaster. There's no such thing here, so he's bad as a disaster, bad as a character, bad at everything (I don't blame Oscar Isaac for any of this, he did the best he could with the "nothing" he was given). The only split second during which I liked his character is (SUPER SPOILER) his last second alive when he realises that the Phoenix is stronger than him and really seems perfectly fine with dying as he wasn't the strongest. Same things for the horsemen, they're not interesting. Angel followed him, ready to destroy the world because he gave him new wings? Or was it in revenge against the humans? I sure as hell would have liked to know about it, but the character is non-existent. Same for Psylocke, she follows him because she has an abusive boss? Is that it? Magneto has a reason but 1) it's the same tired character arc he has been through countless time (seriously, how long are they going to kill his family, literally or figuratively, in order to have him change his mind about killing humans for the tenth time...) and 2) it's inconsistent because Apocalypse doesn't care who's human or mutant, he only cares about who's strong, he's going to murder everyone equally. Magneto was ready to do a few sacrifices but he has always wanted to save his own. The only one who has potential is Storm. Even if she doesn't say it, the movie implies that she follows Apocalypse by adoration for Mystique, trying to do the same kind of good as she does before changing her mind when she sees Mystique fighting for the other side as she realises she was the bad guy all along. This was mildly interesting, but it's undermined by the fact that you'd need to be a complete and utter idiot not to realise you're the bad guy after the first 5 minutes of hanging around Apocalypse. Did she realise it? Was she following him because she feared him? I don't know, like Angel and Psylocke, her character isn't exploited at all. The movie wasn't awful. The "good guys" fare better with nice performances from Sophier Turner, McAvoy and Evan Peters in particular. but with the script being a mess (please give something interesting for the villain to do T_T and what purpose did the X-weapon interlude serve? None in this film, it ties in with the continuity, explaining how Wolverine escaped, and it gives us a "next time, you'll see this evil corporation that has the weapon X serum" but I don't care. I want to see a good movie, not a commercial for the next one), half of the cast (and I'm not talking about side characters, I'm talking all the villains) being useless, I can't consider this anything other than a terrible mess that somehow manage to retain some quality thanks to a few people's performances.

I have absolutely adored this movie ever since I saw it in 2016, my theater experience was a memorable blast and I was really satisfied! As a life-long fan of the franchise, I don’t get why THIS one, of all the X-Men films, is so many people’s least favorite. It’s one of the few X-Men films that rewards you for being a long-time fan of the series. It’s actually impacted by things that happened in previous films, and gives important information for future films (like the new characters in DP, and the Essex Corporation for both TNM, Logan, and even Deadpool 2)

The Wolverine cameo was so unnecessary that for it to be called fan service is an insult to fans. A twenty minute detour, in a two and a half hour movie, that literally has no baring on the plot or effect any of the current characters. Sure Hugh Jackman is cool but then give a decent reason for him to appear in your film, in this one we get Stryker who captures a bunch of the mutants using some special anti-mutant knock out gun but when Weapon X escapes not one of his soldiers is armed with such a handy device. Lame.

I'm so glad that I saw this film on IMAX, because it was fantastic. It's one of my favorites from the series, and I've watched them all many times. I laughed my ass off at the Quicksilver scene. As a guy who spent his teenage years in the eighties, I found myself identifying so much with Quicksilver. I smiled at all of the references from my childhood and teens, including the Bionic Man t-shirt, Atari's Ms. Pac-Man, Bruce Lee, the 'I love Rush' t-shirt, etc. As much as I love Patrick Stewart's portrayal of Professor X, James McAvoy is now my favorite. I cheered in silence at seeing Logan, as I also didn't know he would be in the movie at all. I'm really hoping that his last movie will be rated R, so he can truly go berserk, and tear some shit up. Nightcrawler was cast perfectly, in my opinion. Everything about him was a fan service to his character, and that came through big time. I love the eighties feel to his costume, as it was obviously inspired by Michael Jackson's Thriller album. With that in mind, this epic movie absolutely thrilled this X-Men fan. It was tough to see Havoc go out, but he went out as a hero. Angel/Archangel was awesome, as well. Magneto was amazing. Storm looked amazing, and I was also thrilled to see Phoenix use her power to its fullest. Scott Summers tore up some shit, and that was awesome. It would've sucked to be Apocalypse. He pissed off the wrong mutants, and underestimated them, by seeing them as his children. The mansion's Danger Room was a beautiful fan service. I could go on and on about the film, as I look forward to watching it again on IMAX.

It's a weird time... BvS was actually a lot of fun, it's Batman, (I don't need him cracking jokes for it to be fun) and everyone was told it was the worst movie of the year before they saw it, and the ratings leveled out. While there are obvious things people can point to (MARTHA!!!/Lex Luthor) the fact that the general population moved the rating UP after the critics shit all over it, means it is absolutely underrated. Then Civil War comes out.... Exact opposite, they told the world for a month it was the greatest hero movie ever, again for a monthhhhh. Tony's turning point is when a woman confronts him about her son being killed in an Avengers fight, which he shoves in the Avengers faces, and then at the first sign of trouble he recruits a high school boy he saw on youtube to help hunt the winter soldier, super deadly assassin. HUH???????? Zemo with the dumbest plan of all, I'll let three of them fight each other (or) have 5 Winter Soldiers kill all three. HUH??? . I sat in X-men and thought "I can't believe X-Men is stealing the show" and genuinely found it more enjoyable than the other two beginning to end. Side Note : When did everyone need to love the villain? I don't think too many people were relishing in how great King Joffrey was in GoT, but they certainly cheered his demise when it ultimately came. So you hate Lex Luthor.... in my opinion that means that he kind of nailed the part.

Yea, same with BvS. Maybe with those two giants X-Men was able to fly under the radar so when I saw it I had no idea what to expect. Even though the wolverine cameo was obvious. The fact that it's Jean that let's him free and then also gives him back some of his good memories was pretty cool knowing down the line they meet up again.... in a now semi-non existent future.

Recalling the other movies can be a negative as well given that there are a ton of inconsistencies within the franchise. For example, Mystique was the one who retrieved Wolverine's body at the end of DoFP, not Stryker. In First Class, Moira clearly says that she remembers a kiss w/ Xavier. Also, DoFP already spoiled the future. Showing which characters will inevitably survive, unless the writers just ignore such details yet again in the next installments.

And what's your reasoning behind this being a lazy movie? I myself don't understand the criticism and backlash behind the movie. Chris even thought the first 20-30 minutes were a bit of a bore, but I thought it was great. Do tell what was so lazy about it.
@OgIKidd
@OgIKidd 8 лет назад
I can't speak for anyone else, but the reason I too found the movie lazy is actually part of why Chris enjoyed it. It spent far too much time stroking off the previous films rather than making an attempt to be something different. It also continued the trend of introducing fan favorite characters either to serve as either cannon fodder for the other main characters, or to be a pointless cameo. I think also in a general sense, even going back to Days of Future Past, there was a severe lack of forethought. Apocalypse should have had a much larger world reaction in my opinion. He's THE original mutant with the ability to shape shift, shape matter, to grow, to give and take powers entirely away, and act as be the be all end all living weapon. In what we have, Apocalypse wasn't nearly as scary and menacing as I thought that he really could've been. In my opinion it seemed like he relied way to much on his minions and Charles to get shit done. On that same note, things lined up far too conveniently in the movie. They visually implied that if Moira MacTaggert hadn't left the lid off of the entrance for the sun to get in while the guys were chanting at the specific right moment, the rest of the movie can't happen. If Magneto's family hadn't died at just the right moment, what motivations would he have to join Apocalypse? If Charles hadn't been correct in his assumption that Magneto wouldn't be wearing his helmet, how would earths greatest means of defense be removed? Had Quick Silver not shown up at just the right moment, everyone with the ability to help except for Jean, Scott, and Kurt would be dead. Then there's all of that Weapon X crap right down to the flight suits and jet. It was just plot convenience the movie.

I really love X-men movies. First two and DOFP are great films, not only as comic book ones, but generally - just as movies. Saying that, I also have to say that I was dissapointed in Apocalypse. I'm polish, and scenes that suppose to happen in Poland are just laughably terrible, dialogue is idiotic and Magneto's tragedy was ruined for me becuase of that. Also - in a movie genre in which people are thrown away, blown up, fall from big heights and they are okay, suddenly ONE WOODEN ARROW kills two people? That's just stupid.

Jorge Cruz wooden arrows killed people for millions of years. bows today are meant to kill deer, much tougher than humans. The strength of the bow of based on the material it's made of, you cannot tell the strength of the shot based on how far back it was drawn. It was also pretty damn close to the target. Very feasible. I think you should look into all that false confidence in your knowledge you have.

It's still bizarre that this film completely glossed over the fact that Magento was technically responsible for the deaths of thousands of people when he was working with Apocalypse. Just because he betrayed him and sided with the X-Men in the final battle doesn't mean he should be allowed to go free. And it's still annoying that Apocalypse was able to get taken down by a team of rookie X-Men during their first mission and couldn't even get one hit against Magneto once he switched sides.
@dimavasilev5342
@dimavasilev5342 8 лет назад
It's not that I disliked the film, but it's the first film in a long time where you look at it and can say that scenes felt like they were either functional or pointless, rather than being part of a cohesive whole. You can tell that they made cuts, and to be honest, it would've been better if they'd either had another film between this and DOFP or done more foreshadowing in DOFP. It wasn't bad but it had much too much to cover in an already long run time and needed another film to carry some of the exposition so that it could feel more complete. Also the first film that's made me angry over J-Law as Mystique. Still a huge X-Men fan and stoked for Mr. Sinister, but this really wasn't the best it could have been.

Those are som interesting thoughts. I mostly agree. I personally really enjoyed the first half of the movie - the Magneto storyline was great, the stuff with Scott and the others in the beginning was nice as well. But towards the end the movie felt like it was done by a different person. It felt "fake" - it felt like a "movie". The special effects got worse towards the end as well. I was kind of disappointed to be honest.

Lena R Unpopular opinion (since it's one of the few aspects everyone's raving over), but I felt Magneto's family stuff could have been cut in favour of more breathing room/better characterisation of hastily introduced characters like Psylocke and Angel. I mean, Magneto's a guy who's lived through the Holocaust and has hated humanity almost all his life, they didn't need to rejustify it with another sad backstory. It was very well done, brilliantly acted, but he didn't need more character motivation than he already had (to me at least). I agree though, I really enjoyed the first half, even if it felt EXTREMELY rushed and exposition-heavy, and I'm a fan of all the new cast. And you're smack on with the different director point. I loved that there was an astral plane battle, but otherwise it felt very segmented and like everyone was just flinging stuff around.

I think Apocalypse's size is way more important than what you're saying. Being of large stature is supposed to portray that he's menacing. Also, he's pretty big in the comics. Another thing. I think we can all agree that Thanos( I know some people will get pissed off cuz he seems to love that fucking chair) looks pretty menacing and he seems like he's gonna be a big threat. Part of that is because of his size. Imagine a smaller 5'7" Thanos. Not nearly as menacing.

*Spoilers* That was my biggest intrigue during the film. I mean, they didn't show his claws at the end of "Days of future past" so it was open to him having been in project X, even after Mystique "saved him." That's also why it's completely different from how he escaped from the lab in "Wolverine Origins." But he lost his memory after he got hit with an adamantium bullet there, whereas it seems they "wiped" his humanity with that hat thing in this one. I'm still interested in the X-23 in the next one.

+laz kar inconsistent how? It was damn 1973 when she fished him out of the water. It's 1983 in apocalypse. A hell of a lot could happen in 10 years. Did you expect mystique and wolverine to be buddy - buddy and following each other around? She rescued him, released him, and he went on his merry way. Remember that's what she's been doing for 20+ years with mutants around the world. She even did it with nightcrawler. Sometime before 1983 wolverine was either captured by Stryker or volunteered to do the weapon x program. Simple as that.

There was several aspects about Apocalypse that I liked, particularly Erik's story arc and the darker tones. I was very disappointed by some of the stale acting from the newer cast members, the sometimes unusual or jarring editing, and the conflicting tones and awful pacing. Apocalypse could have been slightly more menacing, as well. It wasn't on par, as far as I'm concerned, with First Class and Days of Future Past. DOFP had a better flow and a more concentrated story. I was fine with Raven/Mystique's role as it made a lot of sense. I didn't like Moira's "easy-peasy acceptance" of having her memories restored. The Charles/Moira relationship felt oddly forced, so it didn't appeal.

I honestly think that this is my favorite X-Men movie thus far. It fixed everything that was wrong with the previous movies. It gave us a good Cyclops, a comic accurate Phoenix, and a great Weapon X Wolverine escape scene. I thought Apocalypse was a pretty cool villain who was menacing and a formidable foe. Not to mention they gave them the classic costumes at the end.
@captainmarvelwilson508
@captainmarvelwilson508 5 лет назад
It fixed absolutely no problems with any of those movies. It really actually made more problems. Forget Origins: Wolverine because that film really doesn't matter, and I also don't care if they have the classic costumes at the end. The Phoenix was pretty good when compared to The Last Stand. As for Apocalypse, some people like you really liked that villain, that's fine but I find him to be one of the most generic villains I've ever seen in superhero movies. Not as bad as Steppenwolf or Malekith, but pretty dull.

I enjoyed this movie more than any super hero film so far this year. They weren't afraid to connect all the previous films together and did a damn good job at it. I'm glad they didn't make Apocalypse an entire CG character so that Oscar Issac could actually act, and his performance along with Fassbender's was fantastic. The after credits scene also hinted at Mr. Sinister which I am so pumped for the next X-Men movie.

The movie was predictable. Anyone who ever watched X3 could tell the phoenix was coming. A lot of the scenes were really cheesy, like Moira spying on people who were (with no explicable reason) resurrecting Apocalypse. It is true there were no stakes- everyone who died didn't die by the fucking main villain's hand. Wolverine and Stryker were forced in to promote Wolverine 3 (think: did they really need that scene to exist in this movie?). They also let Magneto leave because the fucker can't have a happy ending to continue the franchise. Mystique played a smaller role than what I expected, even if her face was plastered for 80% of the movie. Erik is never happy. God fucking damnit, Bryan Singer. Just kill the man if he can never be happy.

Just throwing it out there, none of those people were resurrecting Apocalypse. They're just a cult who worship him. Apocalypse was resurrected, not really resurrected, just complete his soul transfer when Moira went underground and expose the sunlight to the gold pyramid top. Stryker coming in to take the mutants from the mansion actually made sense and was addressed, albeit he had nothing to do with the rest of the movie, which does destroy the point of Alkali Lake's placement in the movie.

This movie’s biggest problem is the fact that it is set ten years after Days of Future Past and not many characters have aged much. It made more sense when Days of Future Past was set ten years after First Class because time can pull people apart and there was a considerable believability in the aging of these characters. Well all except for Havok who should look older. There was even a lot of stuff that happened in between.

Critics are being too harsh on it? Unlike the consensus, which says "overloaded action", it didn't have overloaded action, but to say it was too harsh feels like you being too easy on it, because this is no way an A- movie, it was at the least a Marginal B-, and yeah, it's one of the few times I gave "rotten" movies a "fresh" grade, which is at the least a B- as it turns out. The tone of this movie goes all over the place, and where you got hooked, I WANTED to get hooked. Problem was, immediately after, we are still setting up the main villain. You said it was leading up to stuff near the end, but I honestly think the conclusion was the most overblown part of the movie. The CG surprisingly sucks. This is coming off actually pretty decent CGI in Days of Future Past, and it somehow looked cheesy. I have seen great CG, don't worry, not all of it in the movie was bad, but the conclusion had the worst. The only thing I remember being topped was the Quicksilver scene, which was unfortunately a little overblown as well, with far more CG in it than the previous one, which was more contained and gave me the bigger feel of camera slow-mo rather than objects being moved at a slow-mo pace, but still quite some fun.

Yeah, maybe this is the kind of movie I think you shouldn't have to pay attention to, because no matter how much I did pay attention, and looked at the analysis, it still was underwhelming. It wasn't all a terrible movie, but when it gets muddled, it loses a fun premise, which is what the first one, the second one, Days of Future Past, and those other good ones did well. They put fun in the thought-provoking stuff. Why is this the only one we have to think about? Why did we even have to go back in time anymore? Logan makes much more sense for a movie being miserable because it IS set after Days of Future Past. This one technically isn't.

I say this because I haven't seen Drive, and I stopped trusting too much of my parents' opinions a while ago. They said making you think about the movie makes it less fun, and when watching Drive they said it was awful. I haven't watched it, but even I felt they might be missing the point. This one, I think to make you think about it is going to be a bit troublesome, because you disjoint the style of those movies. This shouldn't be a movie like Drive, where it takes some thinking about it, this should simply be fun.

I actually enjoyed this movie much more than Civil war..... i just feel like i have outgrown the mcu and the xmen movies are a lot more mature in their approach.

Eh, you can like them. I'm a huge Marvel fan and I love the MCU. Not all of them are perfect but I think they're great movies. X-Men are great as well but they have a lot of mishaps. A big issue I have now is the timeline, it's so inconsistent and really messes up the stories.

Thunder Goku I just feel like the X-men movies are a lot more grounded and relatable. More specifically, first class, dofp, and apocalypse. Civil War for example, had a lot of great action and a very good story but i just couldnt connect to anybody. Its just a little too much muscle and not enough heart.

+Victor duarte Civil War had plenty of heart, at least from my perspective.

Not enough heart? The whole movie was about Captain America protecting his best friend. Putting his ass on the line for him. If there is no heart in that, then what the hell does "heart" even entail? Apocalypse did not have any heart compared to Civil War.

X-Maverick I didnt mean to compare apocalypse and civil war, i meant to compare the x-men prequels to the post-avengers MCU. IMO the MCU films after the first avengers films have all been too similar. There is the underlying emotion in the MCU but its overshadowed by the huge action sequences. This is the case in civil war, and i'm tired of it. It was still a good movie. IMO, i found apocalypse to be a lot more relate-able. it definitely had a lot of issues, but i found it entertaining throughout.

I have the same Deadpool kotobukiya figure in the background and I think it looks better if it has the sword backwards in the left hand because that's how Deadpool holds the sword;) I love your channel btw my favourite review channel on youtube!

I loved it. So many mutant powers! Colorful and touching. What the XMen movies needed.
