As a total newb to X-Plane, all I read was how I had to get Ortho4XP, but didn't have the slightest idea how to implement it. This video was great! Informative, clear, and concise - thank you!
Thank you again for a simple but a comprehensive tutorial! 😀 I have never created any Orthos myself, just downloaded some ready ones. This tutorial encourages me to start making my own Orthos and creating a sim exactly the way I want it to look. I will pin tis page down to come here repeatedly to make sure I'm doing things right. I've always thought that this is too complicate to master, but thanks to you and people like you who want to share their knowledge publicly to help make beginners' lives easier, I've encouraged myself to start making my own. I know it takes time at first, but I'm sure I'll get the hang of it. Thank you again very much! 🙂
I already knew how to use v.1.3, but it was a really rough day for me and hearing Osamah's voice for the duration of a video is always a guarantee of helping me to chill out and relieve the stress for a bit. Whenever I hear the above opening music to his channel, I feel as though all will be right with the world for a little while. Again, mission accomplished. Great tutorial as always!
You can change the server in the config mask under 'Application' directly, leaving the mask with 'Apply' and 'WriteApp Cfg' and then Exit; I prefer to work with shortcuts to the overlay-folder and the orthos. Very good tutorial for beginners.
Thanks so much! I recently moved on over to X-Plane 11 from FSX and was able to create my first scenery tiles of the Australian Outback using this tutorial! Thanks again!
I made some a while back, only for my country (the Netherlands), a lot of work but it looked great. Then I somehow managed to delete the files by accident. Wanted to do it again but could not found the video that I used, so thank you for this one.
As always a super clear and useful video from Q8P. I'd used Ortho a long time ago and forgotten how to do it all so this was a fantastic help. Thanks Sam. Just one thing, which may have changed since this video was published, or just be an issue for me - when I tried the tip for the FR server it got no response so I changed it back to DE and everything worked.
This was a huge help for me, thank you so much± As someone who flies both MSFS 2020 and Xp11 (for the same amount of time believe it or not! Playing early MSFS 2020 pushed me to buy Xp11 as I wanted more aircraft and the nice flight model too) I was looking for a way to improve the ground detail in Greenland, this will really help!
I wasn't able to find my overlay file and then I couldn't find all the ortho4xp lines in the scenery packs except for one after I opened Xplane-11. But Now I'm glad that I know how to use ortho4xp because the improved scenery was worth it.
Thanks for this video, it does help me a lot and fix my main issue with missing building. I'll definitely going to add this to my Playlist incase I want to download any orto in the future.
Thanks to this fantastic starter tutorial for orth4xp I'm going to saturate my external hard drive with ortho tile regions. is just a case of copy and past to the custom scenery folder and then when finished with that area just delete from my main xp folder, and does it take a long time to cpoy every time you use that set of tiles. Thanks again for this video.
Great video and Thanks! The only question is: minute 13:45 -> what is the correct priority of this list? where do i need to put the orthophoto overlay? after what package? thanks!
Very good video, it just sucks that it takes a lot time to download ortho photos.. I'd also like to know how to download multiple tiles at once if you could do an updated one..
So is there a reason as to why my yOrtho4XP_Overlays folder is not automatically created? I have selected all the boxes that you checked BEFORE hitting batch build, whats this issue im hitting.
Great video @Q8Pilot!! But please i DO NEED help. At the end of the hole process, there is something wrong with the Overlay Process. The aplication states: "Step 4 : Extracting overlay for tile +21-087 : -------- ERROR: file C:/Program Files (x86)/Steam/steamapps/common/X-Plane 11/Global Scenery\Earth nav data\+20-090\+21-087.dsf absent. Recall that the overlay source directory needs to be set in the config window first." Can someone please help me!?
Thank you very much for your information, I just have one problem the file Overlay in ortho is not showing I try 3 times step by step and nothing, any suggestion. thanks
I've been trying to get ortho to work for multiple years now. I can never get the autogens to load properly and it only loads say a bit of trees or like 2 buildings at an airport
Thanks for the clear and concise tutorial as always! When creating my batch file, I received a lot of 'Warning: could not convert texture...' followed by a file path to the custom scenery folder and different .dds files. Have you came across this by any chance?
Good tutorial, but I seem to be having any issue when I attempt to run my batch file. I get all the way to step 4 and I receive this: ERROR: file /Users/tiesman/Library/Application Support/Steam/steamapps/common/X-Plane 11/Global Scenery/Earth nav data/+40-090/+43-090.dsf absent. Recall that the overlay source directory needs to be set in the config window first. No idea how to resolve. I followed your steps when selecting my directories.
Nice video ... I used this and am wondering why the process doesnt know where to place the Overlay folder automatically ? Here is what I ened up with after starting XP SCENERY_PACK Custom Scenery/yOrtho4XP_Overlays/ SCENERY_PACK D:\Ortho4XP\yOrtho4XP_Overlays/ D: is sorta what I was hoping for but why 2 entries ? Not sure how this was accomplished. Another Black Box to pry open.
A couple of questions. How do you know which countries host servers? Why can the the ortho folder not be directly above the photo container folder in the ini?
Absolutely great tutorial! I just want to know what to do when you want to re-do/edit a specific part of an already created area. Like I want to change the zoom on one specific spot. Is it even possible? Thanks
You will have to recreate the tile with new zoom levels. The unchanged tiles in the area will not be re-downloaded again. The time to edit a tile will be significantly less.
I tried this a few times and can't get it right, I am just trying to create Ortho files for the Peninsula and surrounding area into Dublin's 28L and 28R. Any help? Using a Mac.
Hello!! Captain A big greeting from the Dominican Republic, I understand that this video is about making your own orthos, but I would like to know if you have any knowledge of how to export 3D objects to X-plane 12 ??? By the way, very good video! very instructive! ;)
@@Q8Pilot Ah okay. But if I were to use Ortho, it doesn’t have its own autogen right? Let’s say I did New Zealand (sfd doesn’t cover), using Ortho would just use Xplanes default autogen?
@@Q8Pilot I think he means your PC resolution makes the text very small and hard to read on our monitors. Thanks for all your efforts helping the XPlane community over several years .
I don’t use overlays anymore.I prefer the raw ortho picture lol 😂 just the most realistic way to enjoy. The overlays seems to always ruin it for me on the releasing aspect .
