A massive X14-class solar flare was detected on the far side of the sun by Europe's Solar Orbiter on July 23, 2024. The STEREO-A and SOHO spacecrafts captured views of the ensuing coronal mass ejection.

Impressive. For scale, the Carrington Event was an estimated X40. X14…..yawn.
