Made for new players, enjoyed by veterans nonetheless. Thanks for the great X4 content. Here's the current X4 Foundations universe as viewed by this Terran Supremacist: Liberty is a luxury that can only be afforded when the existential threat posed by the Xenon to the gate network has been contained, preferably eradicated. Otherwise liberty is short-lived without a collectively secured foundation to protect individual prosperity. The Boron are decent enough allies in this, but the Argon and their offshoots are too unpredictable and need a guiding hand to save them from themselves. The Split are too savage but at least they're predictable in their savagery and thus can be brought to heel and used as volatile meatshields against the Xenon. Teladi are gross and short-sighted, but they can also be tolerated and used for their economic savvy provided they don't get too cozy with pirates. The Paranid pose a potential threat if unified, but so long as they remain divided individuals can be worked with to advance the interests of the gate network as a whole. Then there's the Yaki. The over-zealous and conservative Terran leadership might demand their eradication, but ambitious and progressively minded Terran agents see the opportunity to use their desperate position to gain invaluable insight to be used against the Xenon as well as utilize them as an independent auxiliary force to put pressure on uncooperative neighbors all while maintaining plausible deniability. Once the gate network is secure the other factions can be left to manage their own affairs within reason, like the Pioneers. And let's be real, the Pioneers may be treated as second-class humans, but with the security bought by Terran vigilance and technology they've been allowed to terraform their planetary refugee camps and ultimately thrive while the other factions have splintered. No hard feelings, but Earth must come first. :)

The Argon fail to understand the threat posed by the Xenon and AGI as a whole. Blew up the Torus using said AGI, because of said inability to understand the threat of AGI... and then they just shrug it off entirely, going `the Terran's are soooo mean`. All they would have to do to improve relations with home, is to just TRY to actually work with the Intervention Core, and take the Xenon seriously... butttt, no. The Argon are truly, the real MORONS of this new gate network. Long live the Protectorate. The Xenon will be purged.

A new Snuggles video... nice! Also- Trash talking Terrans while flying around in a Xenon Terraformer ship... the same kind that almost destroyed Earth. Ouch! Really rubbing in the salt on the old Terrans eh? :P I just hope that Egosoft doesn't leave them in a stasis of being generic bad guys "because they're bad" like Bethesda did the Enclave. Good video- oversimplified but not too simple. I too like the "H" but I also fly in chase view, being inside the thing gives me "Event Horizon" vibes and it's kinda creepy. Egosoft did a good job with the design.
@TetraDax
@TetraDax Месяц назад
I honestly think that they are doing a good job of not making the Terrans flat-out bad guys. On first glance, you would just think "oh, nice, Earth, and a bunch of cool spaceships they have, they're awesome", then once you get into the story a bit you slowly realize "oh no, they are _evil_", and once you get real deep into the lore, you're starting to think "oh no, they might have some good reasons to be that way".

@@TetraDax Yeah thats fair. I guess it's pretty hard to balance that while still leaving the player a window to make the game their own. You have to leave an option for good or bad. I guess I'm just a sucker for "redemption arcs" and I always tend to think of humans from Earth (us essentially) being the "good guys". The Lore of the series is still pretty fun either way :) I kinda wish there was more about the Xenon. The Encyclopedia mentions "legends" of communication with the Xenon for example... what's up with that? Or the Destroyers, they all say "Branch 9 K" is there a branch 8? What does that mean? There's a lot of cool stuff they could do with that.
@CptSnuggles07

There is some very juicy lore on the Xenon, but it's spread out over many games and secondary publications. I'll be doing a video on it reasonably soon, so stay tuned! I'm also interested in how the Terrans evolve in future lore. Egosoft tends to keep their factions fairly static, but they do seem like they could be setting the Terrans up for a redemption arc. There's also still room to go the opposite direction and give them a full-blown villain arc, although that seems less likely at this point.

I noticed the subtle changes. I like the nods toward the great potential, both good and bad, written into multiple factions. I'd say there's always a chance to do better tomorrow, eh? Long may the sun shine.

Wait, should it be the Segaris who should be called a "protectorate" given the meaning of the word? Technically that is what they are to the Terrans. If the Terrans are a protectorate then who are they a protectorate to? I guess Japan really is in charge given the lore. 天皇陛下万歳!! Glory to the Emperor! I shall purge the galaxy of Xenon for great honor!
@CptSnuggles07
@CptSnuggles07 Месяц назад
That is a great point! Something that's implied in the Terran encyclopedia entries is that their previous government (GEOSS) was in some ways subservient to their armed forces (USC and ATF), so maybe the idea is that the navy is like a separate entity that guides and defends the rest of the nation? Seems like a stretch. Maybe it really is just Japan running the show!

I wish there was a way to "steal" ship and module blueprints if only so that I can bash the Split with the nearest asteroid and still get their amazing Carrier and Mk 4 Engines for my production lines. No I don't have a chronic shortage of engine parts because everything gets a ludicrously expensive Mk. 4 Split Combat engine, why do you ask?

I think saying that the ARG/ANT `defeated` the Xenon three times, is giving them way too much credit. They `pushed back` the Xenon, three times. At best. The Xenon are still a major issue, and unlike the Terran's they don't actively hunt out the Xenon from the X-Universe, or have much interest in correcting said ancestral mistake. Especially since they are the decedents of those who saved Sol 800+ years ago.... Then they willfully chose to forget about their homeworld, and the mistakes thereof... just cuz I guess.... What Morons. Long live the Protectorate!
@CptSnuggles07
@CptSnuggles07 Месяц назад
It's definitely accurate to say they've defeated the Xenon (or Terraformers) in three major campaigns: the First Terraformer War, the First Xenon Conflict, and the Second Xenon Conflict. I don't disagree that they're morons though. 99% of X history wouldn't have happened if every NPC in the universe weren't sharing one brain cell.
@partmemjustin
@partmemjustin Месяц назад
@@CptSnuggles07 ROFL!!! 🤣 That's a good point about the NPCS... My Terran persona doesn't entirely agree with the defeats... But I feel it might be just a semantics issue. I agree that each group of attacking Xenon were `defeated` in each set of battles that the Commonwealth in particular, likes to labels as `Wars`. But the Xenon as a whole were never defeated. Just sent into a happy little corner Matrix somewhere, only to build a new fleet, with better tactics to try again, years later. That's not a great idea to do with self replicating, infinitely learning, von Neumann machines. With the only Nation seemingly to understand this, plus the will and power to get the total job done, being the Terrans.

@@partmemjustin The thing about the Xenon is that they have numerous factions that we're currently calling Branches, and the Gatekeepers only ever let us make contact with a single Branch at a time. We know the Argon did eradicate one Branch, the one that attacked Earth. It isn't clear whether they eradicated the Branches that initiated the Xenon Conflicts, although at least with the Second Xenon Conflict it seems to be implied that they didn't. We also know that they tried and failed to eradicate one monstrously powerful Branch during their early history. Point being, it currently isn't possible to eradicate the Xenon as a whole due to the Gatekeepers' one-Branch policy, and also due to their absurd advantage in numbers, territory, and technology. All that being said, the Terrans do certainly have by far the most proactive strategy against Branch 9, though it's worth noting that the Argon do have X4's only other proactive anti-Xenon program (represented by their guild campaign). This is all way too in-depth for an Oversimplified video, but I will have a proper Xenon lore video coming out in the next couple of months, so stay tuned!
