I know this is a long ass video but I wanted to test everything lol. When buying cheap android boxes it's easy for them to look good, but some other essential parts may not work very well. So this video may not be for everybody as I understand long videos get pretty boring lol. But for anybody looking for cheaper android boxes or this in particular, you have a full (and I mean full) review 😁 ✔BUY THE X96 AIR NOW 👇 ✔4gb Ram / 64gb Storage - tiny.cc/X96_Air_64gb
I'm glad you are doing more reviews, I use to be a subscriber to chigz tech, but he sold out, and started making his lists to try to trick his viewers into buying products he was getting affiliated with over boxes with better specs and stats. I unsubed that day and won't watch anything else he does. I can tell you aren't trying to screw your subscribers over. Keep up the good work!!
The question I always ask with these boxes is "does it do auto refresh-rate switching?", Especially 23.976 FPS. I did try the new Amazon Fire 4k box but even that is, still, glitchy! So I'm still using my old MXQ with Libreelec from several years ago. So I would buy this box if it does frame-rate switching.
@OceanytBoth run on the S905X3, and the benchmark-test results were pretty similar: The A95 scoring just about 3% higher in the gpu-dept, whereas the X96 air came out ahead in CPU, Mem & UX by 9 - 10%. Seems theyre similar if not identical in most other aspects as well: ports, remote, dimensions, etc... I know you didnt, but if you were to ask ME: Unless you really prefer the A95x interface over the X96 air-one or the price-difference is more than say 10-15%, the X96 air seems to be the better choice out of the 2. Btw: I failed a calculus exam once, because I was seated between identical twins....I just couldn’t differentiate between them.
HEY FREE TECH. THANKS FOR THAT GREAT REVIEW. I JUST BOUGHT ONE ON WEDNESDAY AND THE REASON WHY I BOUGHT THIS BOX IS BECAUSE THE BOX THAT I'M CURRENTLY USING IS T HE X96W AND I'VE HAD IT FOR THE LONGEST TIME NOW AND IT STILL WORKS GREAT.AWESOME JOB BRO.AND AS ALWAYS GOD BLESS AND ONE LOVE ♥
Hi buddy how are you. Yes I was really surprised with this box it performed really well for the price. Great to know the older X96 models are working nice too.
Thanks for all the videos you are doing bud, really appreciate it. Is the X96 still a good option, if so which version, there seem to be a lot around, maybe they're all good TIA 👍
Had one of these for almost two months. Works well for almost everything I need, especially with CoreElec. Only problem I've encountered is that the SDR2HDR conversion isn't correct. It performs it, but the image is still washed out compared to my older S905X boxes. Apparently it's an Amlogic issue as all of the S905X3 based boxes are the same. Worth bearing in mind if you have some HDR encoded content but only have an SDR TV. Other than that it's a fairly decent budget box.
cheers, great review! I just had one of my boxes go down and i'm looking to replace it... this box is in the running forsure! A95X Plus is another one im considering? I would love it if you would post your top 5 pics for these cheaper boxes?
Had this box for 1 month now. The one that arrived from eBay kept on overheating and then crashing once getting close to 70 degrees. Got my money back and the guy let me keep it. Not one to waste I drilled vent holes top, bottom and sides and fitted some heat-sinks to the cpu and video chips. One issue I had on some videos I noticed that RED was really pronounced. Skin tones looked like people who had been out in the sun too long. I set SDR to HDR to off and that seemed to fix the issue.
I've been putting one of these through it's paces, it over-heated on first play of an MKV file. Opened it up. No vents on the case. Sure enough the CPU is on the underside of the PCB so there's no way for the hot air to escape. There's a rubber heat pad that connects to a metal plate, however the heat just radiates back into the box. I did notice however that the heat-pad wasn't fitted correctly, wasn't covering the CPU. Seems to run ok upside down with the bottom removed. I'll try fitting a heatsink and drilling holes in the bottom of the box. Also noticed when I had my Wechip plugged in on boot it would just keep rebooting, still testing. Nice performance but I think needs a few mods
Hello. Do you know why x96 air measures such low speeds on the built-in storage? On the box it says (eMMC room) it is a kind of memory card technology. Both eMMC and SSD operated on the NAND principles, where the data is transmitted through the NAND ports. eMMC usually has only one NAND port, while SSDs tend to have more. Think of the NAND gates as highways that allow the flow of traffic. If a city has only one highway in and out, it will probably be congested at all times, and traffic will move slowly. But if there are several highways, the traffic is distributed between them, so that the cars, that is, the data moves faster. This is what happens between eMMC and SSD. SSDs usually have a much faster read-write speed compared to eMMC. The top speed of SSD is about 1500 MB / s, while for eMMC the top speed is only 400 MB / s. SSD still quite expensive. Consumer level SSDs are up to four times more expensive than HDDs, which in turn are quite more expensive than eMMCs. This is why SSDs are rarely used in consumer-level electronics.
Hi Adam my new x96 Air didn't work for mate, the issue is when using VPN paid the Ethernet stops working, its dose work on wifi and after my intense research it's all because Pie 9 has a bug. That's what they're saying on the big wide web. Keep up your great work Adam 👍🏼👏🏻🍻
Hey Free Tech - Happy New Year! Great video. Do you know if this box can use an IPTV subscription? I was looking at another box where you could go directly to the back end where the server info was put, so I wanted to find out about the X96 Air since it is half the price. Thanks. :)
Nice. Video bud 👍Great Price ,I have the X96 max Ram 4gb Rom 64 gb it's faster than my Firetv box 2nd gen which is fast .I have now put the Firetv box away as a backup.
Any plans on reviewing the X96 max plus anytime soon? Wondering between this and the A95X F3/X96 max plus. The advantage of the X96 max plus seems to be a 1 gigabit ethernet connection which might be useful for a file server.
Thank you for the great work as usual! But I think that the box has no ventilation could be a really great problem... what do you think about that? Many boxes I have do indeed have great heat problems even with ventilation. Greetings Big Man👍😁
Another good review, yeah it took longer but it was worth it to show how good android boxes are getting, and despite its appeal, the hardware inside for the price is very very reasonable! 👍 Any chance you could link us to that F1 game could you? It looks super fun! 👍
Excellent and honest review. I am getting one. If it overheats as there is no ventilation on the box, i'll just throw it in the bin....it's cheap anyway.
See, now that is a box I can agree with you on recommending. There is definately a market for people who want a box for under 50 bucks. I like the advice you give in this video much better.
@@FreeTech No, ur defo making the best reviews!! just an idea, should do more Live streams! i watch Mike's unboxing on a Saturday night at 9.00pm. its tech and a laugh!!! Cheers Adam!
I'm buying this for use with Emuelec. Has anyone here tried this? Btw it's amazing how far these cheap, tiny SoCs have gone in terms of graphics capability. It's practically at the level of Playstation 3 or 4, maybe even 5, since there has been increasingly diminishing returns. Like, VGA is noticeably much better than EGA and PS2 blows the PS1 out of the water, but all these newer consoles don't really blow the doors off the previous generation.
How do you think this stacks up against the 4k firestick? In terms of precessing power can this compete? I know dedicated streaming apps like Netflix etc would be best in firestick but just in terms of power/speed.
Great info looks like its a good box I sold a few x96 mind with ,26 gigs and everyone is happy third one you should us is impressing nice job I like your bloopers..lol hava great subdsy🤜🍷🍷e
Really like your videos. is this X96 capable of running Skype? Does it show the app to download in the app store. I want to use it to skype on my LG smart TV.
Hi, thank you for sharing. Does the box support 4K@24fps H.265 10 bit decoding? Does it support HDR10+ and HDR Dolby vision for contents with these HDR formats? What is the maximum bit rate? 🤔
Just received mines but got the 16 GB and 2gb version but the play store does not work at all, tried manually updating it but says app did not install. Please help.
I hate to have to badmouth things but my last x96 melted overnight and how in never set the house on fire is a miracle . there cheap for a reason you noticed yourself theres no ventilation on it it put me off the cheap plastic android boxes my replacement box i made sure had an all aluminium case and good ventilation just thought i would mention this as i would hate anyone to get the shock i did when i saw mine melted next to the telly
Maybe just keep a small fan running on it? Is the bottom attached with screws where the feet are , or is it fully encased? If the bottom can be removed, perhaps one could remove snd drill their own holes in the bottom plate.
I can not stress enough, Do the research. Some budget box are quite good and can easily compete with high end Boxes. Never forget that an Android Boxs are fundamentally a personal computer running on Linux (Android). And much like any pc, good cleaning ethics are crucial for optimal performance. I have been testing a midrange T95Q for the past 8 months and works as expected, Great! Never had nor have issues, for entertainment value and or test. From Games to IPTV, VDO, M3u, StartUp Window.... pretty much a custom set up. All done with ease, and minimum tech knowledge required. It's a new entertainment frontier out there Linux base Android TV Box and APK's will evolve so keep your selves posted with the latest and greatest. Corporate Media's - The Alliance for Creativity and Entertainment (ACE) - comprised no-less of 20 US based Networks are actively shutting down servers as ACE quietly attempts to take over this new entertainment frontier. Patience will sometimes be required while APK's apps are updated and New servers start broadcasting.
This video was off 1 years ago has your opinion changed is this still one of the best budget Android TV streaming boxes or would you advise a different 1 since one year has passed
I would say there are better options out there now. It depends on what you would be using the box for, but would always recommend official devices that support the likes of Netflix, Disney Plus, and official operating systems. You have the Firestick Lite, Dynalink, Chromecast with Google TV, 4K Firestick etc all around the same price. But can't deny this box did perform well when I tested it.
The market is now getting flooded with the generic 96 circuit board, and for the brass you can’t go wrong, they use the latest chip set which runs as cool as a cucumber ( hence the case not full of holes) different branding have their own layout software for individuality but are all essentially the same running gear and to be honest a real steal, bargain. Richard
Why does no one show the actual setting up, plugging into the tv, training the the remote? Doesn't matter what I try the thing does not work on my tv. All I get is format not supported ? And I paid double!?
Hey funny guy. I have a 4K Firestick but the memory is pathetic. I know you review a lot of android boxes, could you recommend one please. I have a budget of £100, I’m not interested in gaming it’s mainly for tv. Thank you fella
I've got this box as it's my 2nd box, taking this box to my better half to keep at her's. But I've noticed there's no navigation bar at the bottom compared to my other box. So I can't close the apps that I have opened on my Air 96. Can someone who is reading me help me out please 🤞
Could I use this to play movies/sports events from my memory stick that I downloaded from pirate bay? Because the 4k fire stick is pretty useless when it comes to this task. Or even just putting them straight on this as there seems to be plenty of memory
I'm looking for a box solely to play my movies off of a 2tb external HDD and have the look like a Plex library on my pc. Can you advise me on a box and app for this please.
Is there anyway to install apps that support the box properly meaning not having to use the mouse cursor. Was trying to install startup show from the playstore and it didn't work. The playstore looked like yours
