Xander vs. Jetmir vs. Rigo vs. Errant | Commander Clash S12E13 

Spoilers but I wanna commend Richard for sportsmanship. He did almost nothing all game but laughed and made it fun anyway. That’s a great example for others to follow.

Richard is the only person on earth who could have his board wiped, his hand discarded and his lands stolen and still be laughing along with everyone else! What a gem!

Ok guys I listen to every episode and I'm not convinced Richard actually remembers the text on farewell! This episode all but confirmed it when he said he wished it had modality! It does man! It does!!!!

Wow i wasn't expecting to see Tomer punting for 2 and a half hours, but really I should've known better.

I did not realize that Skyclave Relic's kicker was tied to an ETB trigger... That's pretty strong.

It was so fun to see Lord Xander in the hands of a fun, casual player. Also thank you to Phil for giving me some ideas of how to change my Rith, the Awakener token deck :)

Tomer saying that people would have been dead without Xander is basically saying that people die faster when no one interacts with anyone else.

Ohh man, I built Rigo too and he's so much fun to play. I'm happy to see bird tribal back, but that's not the direction I took him. I went for, "sending a message," tribal. All the cards like kraken hatchlings, ornithopter and their insanely power crept twins like aegis turtle and broker's initiate get to represent by becoming a formidable defensive wall while I send a message early game. To actually win, I'm running exalted enablers to grow the creatures after Rigo has drawn with them, some power=toughness enablers, and some other spicy finishers like Tanzir Quandrix, and Storvald. Deck kicks ass, and is just tons of fun.

Expropriate is on the same level as Omniscience. It's really not that bad if the table doesn't give the player extra turns. However most people are not logical and don't wanna give up permanents. It either wins or it makes the table kill you.

Tomer should have copied Primal Amulet with all the Echo Storms. That would have been sweet. It would have made the second echo storm cheaper as well as let him pop off with dig through time and look for more spells and mana rocks to flip the amulets to protect them before getting hit with Lord Xander's ability.

It's time to create a Commander Clash ban list with Sol Ring, Dockside, Rhystic Study, Smothering Tithe etc.

DId I miss something or did Tomer not grab the spellseeker on the last digs to be able to tutor up cyclonic rift to bounce Jetmir on combat to shrink the dudes? I think he had it and punted. I might have missed the use of cyclonic rift earlier in game, but I don't think so.

Honestly, at this point, it's just Phil's rhetoric whenever he says, "I wouldn't play x... ." Almost every week, he plays something that he claims he "would never play." If he has a code, it's predicated on first saying he won't play something followed by a week where he excuses his playing out on account of his choice of deck build. No shade meant here, just pointing out what I see/hear.

This game is proof that Crim is the hero we need. We called him a villain because we weren't ready to accept that spot removal, counterspells, and opposition agent are justice. I hope we can now all move past this and recognize Crim as the dark knight of the board.

I normally agree with Tomer, but no one ever is both the good guy and plays with expropriate.

Richard: Spot Removal is a waste of a slot in today's meta. Also Richard: We lost because no one interacted with key permanents that stayed on board all game.

Expropriate always makes you the bad guy. Doesn't matter the board state or what happened earlier in the game, Expropriate is always a groan inducer.

Whyyyyyy did tomer sacrifice the search for azcanta? I just don't get it....it could have made his brainstorm so much better if he'd flipped it...(tomer I have no hate for you playing expropriate I just wish you'd played it better x)

Tomer's deck was incredibly cool, but watching Tomer pilot the deck was incredibly frustrating.

No Syr Konrad or Dreadhound with Xander is a true miss. Those are the best way to actually win with Xander instead of just prolonging the game.

Tomer holding dig through time with the primal wellspring and a stocked graveyard was one of the most frustrating things I have seen in a sec.

Expropriate is just, a long standing villian. A new card doesn't have that built in drama and anger

"planeswalkers are really good when you have a sol ring to power them out two turns early." this is true, never have i seen people more afraid of my boros deck dropping koth. it's not built around him, i just think he's neat.

It was so frustrating for Tomer to not cast the dig through time. Seriously, cast the dig instead of activating the war room wtf.

Tomer, it was very much the wrong choice to take expropriate (and probably a mistake to put it in the deck). It drew you so much hate and didn't really progress your. Board state. Why not just take the card your whole deck is built around? You'd also be able to bribery so many things you'd be able to make blockers or maybe snag a propaganda effect. Phil has also admitted to letting players do cool things, you could have at least tried to make a deal. I am really disappointed as a viewer to not see the deck do what it was built to do because of your greed.

Normally I'm hoping Richard doesn't win due to his win rate, but I do love the birds so they have my full support.

Sheesh, people are such di**s in the comments. Everybody is an expert, efficient, 100% optimal player who never makes a mistake, never has a long turn, never misses triggers. They also can always do better in any given situation, especially in hindsight (and being able to have information like all the cards that are in the other players’ hands). Funny how that works! Tomer’s deck requires timing: Phil and Richard just hand-dump and attack, Seth just gets excess mana and does one big thing a turn. Also, Tomer is so happy his deck is doing what he built it to do and clearly having fun and then is also being hazed because he didn’t win right away. It’s a shame to see. Can’t just be happy you got to do something fun. If Seth casts an All is Dust in that exact situation, Richard says “thanks!” But instead Tomer casts it (and the same result happens as if Seth or Phil had cast it) and it’s like “wow, why would you do that?”

in this game, a turn three Smuggler's Share would have produced: for Phil: 2 cards, 1 treasure for Richard: 4 cards, 1 treasure and a turn 5 Aerial Extortionist would have produced (not counting its exile ability): for Phil: 7 cards for Richard: 5 cards ...and then the All is Dust hit. after it resolved, these cards would have produced (again not counting Extortionist's exile ability): Smuggler's Share, for Phil: 4 cards Aerial Extortionist, for Phil: 5 cards Smuggler's Share, for Richard: 1 card Aerial Extortionist, for Richard: 3 cards

I wish Tomer would spend a bit longer hovering over the cards. I can't read fast enough.

Prosperous Partnership, Stimulus Package, and any Doubling Season effect; nets you infinite 1/1s and treasure tokens. Tap three creatures to make 2 treasures, sacrifice the two treasures to make four creatures, repeat repeat repeat, then with your huge board of 1/1s you can make arbitrarily many treasure tokens to cast other spells. Throw in a Professional Face-breaker to turn the treasures into cards, and you draw your deck with unlimited mana and creatures - any haste enabler wins.

If Xander wins this game, others are doing it VERY wrong. That commander needs to get kicked to the ground.

My evaluation of Xander when you guys talked about him was pretty on. I said his targeting instead of saying each opponent made him better because you could politic his abilities with the table to attack the scary guy. That's exactly what happened.

Tomer spent so long thinking out his line, then flubbed it right at the end. Grabbing Eternal Dominion would still give at least 3 total spells

Yeah, that's not a MODO Bug, Expropriate just doesn't set a duration or condition for the control change, so there's nothing to "end" when the player leaves, this makes all the stolen permanents fall under the umbrella clause of "if the player still controls something, exile it".

You couldve cast the dragonlair spider with your llanowar elves. jetmir+foundry for red, llanowar+confluence for red. Or am I missing something?

We've come full circle I feel like. This game was basically battlecruiser magic as commander is intended to be because the big guns have become so powerful and fun that they outrank the answers in deckbuilding.

Jetmir being more or less a Craterhoof Behemoth in the Command Zone is pretty strong, though you do have to develop a large board for it to work.

my favorite thing about new commanders is how you have a decent suite of 3 cmc three-colored commanders that could be cast completely off of jeweled lotus alone. I don't have any of those cards and/or decks, but I like the idea mechanically

Normally killing the Expropriate player is correct ...Tomer's deck is not within 'normally'

Actually the way tomer stole those permanents means they exile when he leaves the game. If he played a card that said gain control until this leaves the battlefield then they go to the players they belong to but since tomer took them with spells that said just take it then them exiling when he died is correct.

Dang, I was really hoping to see Eternal Dominion happen. Seems like such a cool card but I've never even seen it cast, never mind see what it can actually do over a game. But you got greedy, Tomer, and decided to be a villain with that Expropriate, so your plans had to get foiled.

The slow realization that this is one game. I really thought Tomer was going to win quickly. Very fun game to watch.

I think Phil could have cast Dragonlair Spider when he was complaining about mana - he just had to tap the Llanowar Elves

Expropriate instead of eternal dominion is like building a quirky deck for copying rats that crew vehicles to only make infinite mana and then play torment of hailfire. I mean why use jank when you can use jank as a veil to play obviously broken things that everyone already know ends games? I love spooky expropriate

Expropriate and cards like it like Insurrection are fine. They are so expensive and can still be interacted with. And they aren't even guaranteed wins. They are just so expensive.

I swear tomer it hurts to watch you play. You literally spent mana and life to draw cards. But you could have just brainstormed to (idk) see 3 cards. You save mana and your gamble that those 3 are better than 1 is probably a lot higher right? Or am I not seeing it

For theft effects and leaving the game (800.4a) If a permanent is stolen with a time restriction on it (e.g. Mind Control or Act of Treason), then that permanent's owner gets it back If a permanent is stolen without a time restriction (e.g. Bribery or Blatant Thievery), then that permanent is exiled

I have a friend that told us when we sat down for our commander week that he was bringing some hardcore spice and he slapped Lord Xander down in the command zone. He said to bring out our strongest stuff and by turn 5 he had Tergrid and Lord Xander plus a Phyrexian Altar. We died gloriously.

I haven't been following magic a lot lately... ... People thought a 7-mana Grixis commander was ban-worthy? Did people just like, forget everything about magic?

I love Tomer to bits, his deckbuilding is fantastic, but there are weeks when his piloting choices make watching Commander Clash tough. Like at 38:00, where he draws the gauntlet and has exactly the mana to a) cast gauntlet and b) cast Echo Storm using the 1-mana reduction from Primal Amulet. At which point he gets 4 gauntlets, causing each island to tap for 5. This seems like an excellent play, right? 5 mana from every island and +4/+4 to creatures? Plus Xander doesn't slow him down much, he just keeps the gauntlets and casts card draw. So then Tomer puts gauntlet in the yard, and I'm thinking okay, so he's gonna copy Primal Amulet instead, that's also very good - the spell cost discount is cumulative although only -4 mana and Xander might target him before he can flip them to the (non-legendary) land side, but 4x Primal Wellspring seems very strong - the set would add 4 mana and copies 4x for free. Very nice, very nice. But then Tomer copies... sol ring and skyshroud relic, for 1-2 mana each (I think he got 6 total?) and no real protection against Xander. My spine shatters under the sheer force of cringe. I know it's easy to talk when nobody's recording my misplays... but I was left regretting what the game might've been if he'd taken a bolder, more explosive, more commander-y line.

I would rather suffer through 3 expropriates verse xander loops.

Richard's hatred of Farewell HAS to just be a meme at this point. He always, for whatevger reason in every situation, talks about Farewell doing the absolute worst version of what it could do in that scenario..... I approve of many of his hot takes like Cyclonic Rift not being that great, but the Farewell hate is obnoxious and wrong at this point

I made the errant deck with a few changes; avalanche caller to make snow lands 4/4s, extraplanar lens over the caged sun and gauntlet, no expropriate, no all id dust or cyc rift but evacuation, more draw power cantrips, archaomancer, and better couters like wash away/offer you cant refuse/etc. I like it cuz its hard work and not a typical blue deck. I made 7 copies and 9 copies of eternal dominion respectively out of the 4 games i played the deck so far.
