Why is it that everyone thinks Sony needs to put their game everywhere because of growth while Nintendo can be a closed system and still find more growth? That makes no sense. Nintendo is gonna hit the ceiling too in the console market so why isn't anyone talking about how they are gonna find more growth? I don't understand why people think Sony should do what Xbox is doing with their multiplat strategy, instead of doing their own thing. Xbox has been trying to copy Sony and they failed because of it, now people think Sony is gonna be successful by copying what Xbox is doing? There is like no consistency with some peoples takes on the market.
For one, Nintendo isn't competing in the same way as Sony/MS (since they don't make many AAA games, they don't need a lot money to see growth) and two Nintendo is growing in other ways like branching into movies and theme parks.
Sony's games cost substantially more to make than Nintendo's do, while typically selling far less (Nintendo has something like 10 games that sold >20M this past gen, while Sony has 2, and both are hovering pretty close to that, nothing like MK8's 60M+). We'll see if Nintendo can replicate the overwhelming success of the switch with switch 2, but if they can't then they're pretty much on the same path that Sony and Xbox are, just a few years behind - their president said as much in the most recent earnings call.
@@ScubaSnacks Nintendo has ten games that sold over 16 million to be more precise. You can't even get into the Nintendo's Top 10 without selling over 15 million. Actually, what the president said was that games were going to cost more on average. They won't be the same path as Sony and Xbox simply because they don't need to sale an much software to break even and Nintendo makes most of their money on AA games.
What happened with Starfield was a mixture of several things. One, Beth, MS, and the fans hyped this game to high heavens. Sarah Bond called it, "the most important game of the generation". So when it came out and it was 'only' an 8, it simply didn't meet the hype that was buildup. It really wouldn't have been that much different if Breath of the Wild, Tears of the Kingdom, GOW Ragnarok, Elden Ring, or TLOU Part 2 got a MC of 8. It also didn't help that it launched in 2023, one of the best years in gaming since 2017, so there was no shortage of great games that were getting 9s and 10s. Two, Starfield burnt a lot of old-time Beth fans. I mean fans who have been fans of Beth since the days of Daggerfall or Morrowind. They felt Beth lost their 'RPG' roots for more casual games since Skyrim (or even Oblivion depending on who you talk to) and they thought Starfield would be a return to form. So they were bitterly disappointed when Starfield repeated the worst sins of Skyrim and FO4, but somehow made them worst to the point that FO76 did stuff better. Three, it burnt many fans who loved Beth during the days of Oblivion, FO3, FONV, and Skyrim (this one is more diverse). They're somewhat similar to the old-school Morrowind fans, but they fall out with Beth after either FO4 or FO76. Four, and what I think killed Starfield among the casual/boarder audience, Beth's failure to innovate. Even Skyrim haters will tell you that game changed the industry and was the standard that all open-world games was compared to until at least Witcher 3. Now, Beth has been completely lapses by the industry. BG3 ate Starfield's lunch when it came to immense RPG systems, dialog, and story, and Tears of the Kingdom completely destroyed it in terms of open world sandbox. You then have No Men's Sky which did the whole explore space angle much better. So Starfield launched feeling outdated. Like game from around 2020 or 2021. Five, we of course have to mentioned how Starfield was a console warring battleground. I don't think we need to go into too much detail on this one. Long post, but this is all saying that Starfield simply didn't meet the expectations of fans, MS, or even the industry at large. Which is why it getting an 8 isn't the same as Pikmin 4 getting an 8.
Actually that is what Xbox went full fledge with in 2017 n said all 1st party games were going to PC day 1. Going to another console platform is a bit different... Xbox always goes in too early on stuff. Maybe someday we will see all games everywhere, with only timed exclusivity or something.
I am being cheeky . It’s a 1985 film called “ Legend “ . I always thought of it as an unofficial Zelda movie . The first Zelda game was release in 86. Maybe Zelda was inspired by that movie 🤷🏻♂️
Jeff's been watching atheist arguments against the evidence for God I see and the cosmetology argument. Gaps just fill in I see. Life just happens. Nope. Good podcast though.
@@jez.c Yes. He exists outside of creation. Outside of time and space. Frank Turek and even some scientists who've come to believe in the existence of God tackle the question. Thanks for asking Jez.
Sorry meant to say look up Frank Turek and evidence for the existence of God. He does open forums at universities and other places. He gives thoughtful answers. You'd probably like him.
Get hyped about Xbox get let down about Xbox, tale as old as time lol. I think ppl need to get that the old Xbox is gone, it’s Microsoft Gaming now. Maybe ppl will think about it before cheering major consolidation in the industry now.
Xbox or Microsoft Gaming. It's all the same to me. Facebook didn't really change when they changed the overall company name to Meta. The breakdown over Twitter to X wasn't the complete meltdown everyone thought it would be (most of that was due to Elon's poor decisions, not the name). The point is that regardless of what they call it, it's just a name. What matters are the games that are developed under that umbrella. As long as you like the games, the name doesn't matter.
By the sound of this, it's only Xbox having layoffs/closes? It's happening across the whole world & different industries. Pixar is laying off 14% of its staff as announced today. But ja BAD Xbox
There is no value in PlayStation. I have a PS5 and nothing to play, not touched it in 6 months. PS plus is overpriced and doesn’t offer any value compared with gamepass. The issue for me is Microsoft’s marketing is terrible and needs to be improved so people can actually see the value around gamepass
They only own the movie rights, not for games and merch just for movies. Marvel still owns the rest of his rights. Marvel doesn't have to pay Sony to continue making Spiderman comics.
StarField was only top 11 selling game of 2023, 8-10 Meta, Top earning games on Steam Platinum top 5. Grubb is pushing his own narrative that doesn't match the facts.
I thought Starfield was the third highest grossing game on Steam in 2023 isn't that what it says on their page? And I remember at one point it was number seven best selling game worldwide
To the people coping in the comments about starfield Starfield is the only new single player last year on top 10 lists most played - its on GAMEPASS dummy and it was hyped to all end OFCOURSE IT WOULD lmao 🤡 even Cyberpunk did so did Halo Infinite 🤡 Starfield wasnt even in the top 10 games sold worldwide including ALL platforms Bro Helldivers 2 outsold Starfield 5:1 SM2 outsold Starfield in 2023 and it released 2 months later😂 Grubb is not pushing any narratives, the fact that Helldivers 2 a C tier sony franchise has more peak and concurrent players than a FREE TO PLAY Halo Infinite AND outsold Starfield 5:1 shows everytbing you need to about the tentpole xbox franchises 😂
