This thing is straight garbage. They actually put effort into changing the dashboard after the 360 store shut down, and THIS is what they came up with?? Come on man. Microsoft cannot stop taking Ls. It's sad.
I'm just really confused as to how they updated the dashboard without actually dropping an update (you know, one that downloads and installs). I also have heard rumors that MS is working on an actual update that removes the Avatar store and the workarounds to get back in to the marketplace, but that is only speculation.
@@HenryBach-im2be this update was likely baked in. We’ve known about the marketplace closing for quite a long time now, and Microsoft has probably been preparing for it for even longer.
now that the store is dead, Microsoft cannot complain when everybody JTAGs and RGHs their consoles, since only the secondhand shops are affected by those.
RGH is the way for anyone who cares about preserving the content in question. You never know how long you'll be able to download your entitlements. RGHs also open you up to the wonderful world of game mods such as Rock Band 3 Deluxe (for which *all* DLC has been preserved to the best of my knowledge, including some unreleased content)
@LocalAitch I do have an RGH Xbox 360 slim, and working with a case mod to make a TRON edition. And while I don't condone game piracy of games for which you can still give money to the original developers for, when they become abandoned, they are fair game, especially when the secondhand market either doesn't have it, or charges exorbitant prices for.
@@TheBlueCoyote I do condone piracy, only because today's piracy ensures that works are preserved tomorrow. If you start only after something is abandoned or otherwise made unavailable then you're already behind.
@@ktulu084I feel like a better response would be to insist they stop using it incorrectly. The word doesn’t work here, but it may work in other situations.
i agree i loved the old blades they could have put the avatar on where the marketplace used to be on the very first blade row man that would have look cool
@@Cursory3 Everything have been archieved. All you need to do is to look the right place. Ans as so many here suggest, then RGH it. As all it takes is two wires, one resistor, an RaspberryPI-Pico and the knowhow. For the knowhow, there are good guides out there. As for consoles, you can find them at some 22 to 28 USD with two controllers and some times with games.
They could've atleast left the dashboard just like it was, but when you would go to the marketplace, it'd show you a message that the servers are down or something like that. They also could've created a little message that every user would get, like a "thanks for using the xbox 360" one.
The "gutted" dashboard threw me for a loop when i first saw it. I have a slim & og model 360. I hooked up the slim to download my last minute purchases after the store closed & it changed the dashboard. I hooked up my original without the wifi antenna connected & it kept the non gutted version of the dashboard. I refuse to update it to the gutted version.
@@gabgame300 exactly, it reminds me of the blades & nxe dashboard situation. Once the store closed I had no reason to hook it up to the Internet ever again.
Did you have to do an update for the dashboard to be changed? Because I plugged in my xbox360 yesterday when the store was open, bought rdr, TrialsHD etc and unplugged the LAN cable again right before the shutdown apparently. I still have the old dashboard and I’m afraid to plug the LAN back in, would it change my dashboard if I would just plug it in?
@@mopsdackelspitz3662 my slim updated to the new dashboard automatically. it only changes the dashboard if it's hooked up to the Internet. If you want to Keep the non gutted version of the dashboard don't hook the console up to the Internet.
It isn't Microsoft Edge, it was actually a newer version of Internet Explorer that wasn't on the console before. They must have updated the version of Internet Explorer before shutting down the marketplace.
The Internet browser on the Xbox 360 hasn't worked for YEARS!!! It wasn't killed when they shut down the 360 marketplace... it happened quite a while ago!
What would have been nice would be if Microsoft said ok, Xbox 360 is no longer supported, we are no longer making money from this and we really do care about game preservation so let's open the flood gates and give the internet the security codes to enable the hackers to create soft-mods.
@@Sans_The_SkeletonYou can still play digital games on 360 though, just because you can't buy new ones doesn't mean the ones you do own are gone forever.
When I bought my first PS5 my brother thought it was weird I bought the one that plays disks and eventually I went and bought a second one that was digital but I don't know man I just really like having those physical copies of my games even if it's just to have them on the shelf where I can see them ... I'm old and I've lived long enough to see a lot of changes in gaming it's kinda wild when I sit back and think about it if I'm being honest but I've never been a fan of digital downloads the only reason I bought a digital PS5 was so I could have my personal system and a house system that we as a family could all play with and I figured why not on the second one
@@marcogenovesi8570 Most people play on newer consoles. The console is very old and almost nobody plays on the 360 anymore. It’s sad but had to happen.
The thing that bugged me the most is that the box that you click on to play the disc in your tray is stretched out like crazy now. It makes all the pictures look terrible
It's funny too because Phil Spencer had claimed they were now taking steps for "game preservation" a bit ago but this is only a step backwards. I also agree with a lot of other comments that they should add options for what dashboard you want to use, However I suspect the only reason they don't want to do this is because they need to re-create those dashboards. They probably don't have the files or assets anymore for the old dashboards and re-creating them would mean they need to work with the latest update so it supports all games. Shouldn't be too hard tho, would just take some time. If they really wanted to commit to game preservation then they would not only add the old dashboards as an option but they could also update the emulator for original xbox games and possibly try contacting some of the devs/publishers of the arcade games to see if they could make any of them freeware. Then just add a new tile in the dashboard for accessing/downloading the games you already bought with sorting features.
It is gone for everyone. The Gold logo pre-closure only displayed when connected to the internet. The current offline dashboard is the same as it has been since I got my 360 in 2014.
Wow, Microsoft, first you create tons of electronic garbage with your fake Windows 11 requirements, and now we are going to pollute even more with an "absolute" console that has "still fine" graphics.
A computer isn't ewaste if it can't run the latest windows. Yeh it becomes less useful to your average consumer but even then, if your using a pc that old you weren't doing anything more than web browsing and old content anyways
Who, that still has and plays a 360 (like me, not everything is back compat, and if you set it 720p output you get supersampling if the game is higher, better performance if there is a distinct 720p mode, and then integer scale it to 1440p with an MClassic) is going to throw it away just because they can't buy anything from the store?
True, but it would still have to say to join Xbox LIVE on the old dashboard when the new current dashboard sucks. Rather look at the Wii Channels offline than this.
unfortunately when disconnected from internet, the games library doesn't show any images. I have over 800 games installed on my 360, so those images can be lifesavers for finding what game I'm looking for quicker.
@@JodaroKujo it relied on the store for the artwork thats why back in the day on the old dashboard 2005 to 2008 i think it used to be game icons on a banner or somat been a long time though but the game icons are now hidden on storage menu in settings
Blud it's an almost 20 year old console you can't expect them to support it forever. Do you also get mad at Nintendo because they don't release GameCube games anymore?
The Download History has always been really buggy. Its super slow. If you scroll too fast it will fail to load anymore. Won't always recognize that you own something requiring you to try multiple times to download something. Then you have issues with the Downloads List being slow, failing to load something, not letting you close it. You might have to wait several minutes for the Downloads List to close. As someone who owns around 400-500 Games on the XBOX 360, not counting all the DLC I own. Trying to Download my Purchases is a real pain. Also I really hate that they closed the XBOX 360 Store and the final sale was lame with no sales on DLC.
Jacob, while it is gone there is a massive loop hole I found out yesterday that allows you to download from the marketplace. I made a few shorts on it and it works!
It would've been cool to look back on but outside of that there was no reason to keep it ngl Except if you wanted dlc and the dlc wasn't backwards compatible tbh
nah, there are so few xbox collectors when compared to nintendo and sony, your average game price will probably never go above 20 on ebay unless it's *really* popular
Certain games will, many of the most popular ones are available digitally through backwards compatibility. The ones that are not, oh yeah it's going to be miserable, but there are plenty of stinkers that nobody wants, games that were delisted from the 360 years ago before closing it was even a consideration. For example, I was looking up Pirates of The Caribbean: At Worlds End the other day, dirt cheap. Who wants a mediocre movie tie-in game.
@@SuperM789 physical games aren't permanent though. Some of my old 360 games have started to develop bitrot. My Orange Box disc has half of the textures corrupted in Portal. As more and more discs fail over time, especially those stored in bad conditions, some games will become rare.
I'm fine with them removing the store from the dashboard but what drives me insane is how the game image now stretches to fit the tile. Clearly shows Microsoft didn't put much thought into this.
I don't think IT'S WORSE THAN WE THOUGHT. I think it's EXACTLY WHAT WE EXPECTED, when they said the store would be closed. Imagine being told that the Walmart down the street was being closed this weekend, and someone complains that they are having difficulty buying bread ??? Yeah! It's CLOSED, what did you expect when they said they were closing ! 🌛
One thing you missed is if you press X while hovering over a game in your library it will bring you to the original marketplace page for the game. It wont let you purchase anything but you can still see the dlc and everything else like it was before it shut down
I hate it but what is there to do about it? It's like getting deep into an MMO, spending hundreds or thousands of dollars over the years, and feeling cheated when the game inevitably shut downs as if it was not always fated to end someday. Any digital service that requires a server will eventually go away, it is all impermanent. What would make me pissed is if they revoked my access to the content that I bought prior to the closure.
The ads being gone is nice. It’s the fact that they didn’t even try to make it look decent. Stretched out tiles (peep how the disc art shows up on the disc tile) that fill up a small portion of the screen. It just doesn’t look good
I almost gave up trying to download from my purchase history. Error after error, but if I try half a dozen times it eventually worked. Multi Billion $ company cant keep some servers up for their old system...
Ngl keeping the servers up for the xbox 360 would've probably just lost them money since they aren't making any money from it now, there's no real reason to keep it running outside of nostalgia and even then that's a small fraction who aren't even gonna buy anything anyways Plus purchase history has been broken for like decades lol
Bro, I can't believe how long its been since I played my Xbox 360... It was released in 2005, and so many good memories I've experienced, I can't believe they did this... It feels like it shouldn't be this long in years, yet it is... I literally feel like I should be able to come back and experience my childhood over again, and seeing this nostalgia being ripped from us, I have no words.. I miss the old days of the Xbox days, bro, so many GOOD memories! I wanna cry, I really do...
It has felt like that for a long time since when they stopped doing advertisements and the console stopped receiving new games. It was a ghost town before, now it is just a row of empty foundations.
The 360 being my favorite console and still to this day my most played (I have a Ps5 and Xb1 I barely touch) this shut down has been legitimately heart breaking. I spent nearly $350 downloading a bunch of stuff but I still didn't get everything I wanted and now never will be able to play/access those because I just ran out of time/money. Rip 360 I despise Microsoft for this they didn't need to shut it down how much was it truly costing them?
They should have brought back something like blades, that would’ve been cool for nostalgia and its design doesn’t entirely rely on the marketplace and movies taking half of it
I don't understand then shutting it down. It's literally just server space running a barebones file server and a cash register server that collects money before allowing you to download a file. The cost of cloud file storage these days is miniscule, esp for someone like Microsoft. The chance of folks still buying games is there. Only reason I can see them getting rid of it is if it gets rid of multiplayer servers, too. PC gamers got kicked in the nuts when Games For Windows Live was shut down, basically neutering MP from a generation of games. Maybe that's what's happening to Xbox 360 gamers?
As far download history goes, xbox 360 marketplace compared to PS3 Playstation Store, it's pretty much the same experience: It's just a huge list of whatever you ever bought/added to your account without any sorting option going, starting from most recent content and scrolling down older purchases. The only difference so far seems to be the speed the download history loads on 360 now, since PS3, even though is quite clunky these days, still loads much faster than 360.
I feel Iike people are just over reacting over this new dashboard, its not that bad, all of the tabs were just merged into one to look more cleaner, and i actually perfer it. Plus, you can still buy xbox 360 gamss that are compatible with the new xbox consoles and still play it on xbox 360. So in the end, its not really that big deal.
They bring it back and you'll legit never use it What's even the point of keeping it up if no one used it lol Only reason you want it back is because they happened to shut it down and it was nostalgia Legit no one cared about the marketplace recently until they shut it down
@Woohoowi1 while I get that, it is still possible to play those games, Cod 1 is available on steam and all that and sonic the fighters can still be bought and played on xbox 1/X|S So while they're technically gone, they aren't gone forever and can still be played
@@SYXX-II sorry, meant to say Call of duty: Classic. Which is technically the first ever COD, it was digital only on Xbox. Which means it's gone forever unless modders preserved it.
@@LukiGames0the dashboard layout is being pulled from a server, so if you disconnect, you can see a preview of the old layout before the store closed.
I opened Forza Horizon 1 yesterday, and found out that somehow that it had installed the rally DLC to it, no idea how, maybe Microsoft made it so everyone who had the game could have the DLC for free. Idk but I'm definitely not complaining. As for the menus, I was confused at first, then realized that they had gone because Microsoft didn't want to just leave their console with a bunch of options that didn't work. Strange, but I dont really mind it.
Do you have full access to the Rally content? Keep in mind that Rally upgrades still show up without owning the DLC but trying to install them just takes you to an error screen if the DLC isn't owned.
@@jaysoosbeans well I'm not sure because the option for rallys shows up in the pause menu when not in a race, and the parts weren't there in the first place before the 29th, so I'm just genuinely confused. And because I haven't beat the base game yet, I haven't tried selecting the option for rallys
@@A_PiceOfCheese The option for Rally is always added if you install the update but it still asks for authentication. Last time I played was this January and the option was available but because DLC couldn't be purchased even before the shutdown (probably due to licensing) you'd just get an error. Rally components also show up even if you don't own the DLC and you get a pop-up describing them but trying to install it in a car would just result in an error if you didn't purchase it while it was still available. Try installing any Rally part in the garage. If you can't then the Rally content can't be accessed legitimately anymore.
@@Solarsplash64 Yea true. Not gonna lie, but since every dashboard update it got worse and worse. Blades was awesome, NXE was also quite good, but worse then Blades and then came Metro. And now this. Feels like Microsoft didnt even try to even put a little bit of effort in the dashboard RIGHT NOW (design and stuff)
The one thing I’ve never understood about digital distribution and the end of such is that if you’re going to keep the servers alive to allow people to continue to redownload their purchased content, why not keep the ability to purchase the content that’s already on those servers as well? I get it…licensing, contracts, etc. but beyond that, if it’s still digitally available anyway, why not just keep making money on it as well? Idk…
I like the "new" dashboard. They removed the stuff that have to do with purchase. Way better than having a defunct and half dead function. It now feels like 6'th gen on steroids.
@EarthboundX seriously though, the xbox one/series s/series x homescreen is an absolute mess. There's adds for sales and controllers and you can only access your most recent games. It needs simplifying in my opinion, like the xbox 360 or maybe even the switch and ps5.
@@yehhkow847 Next praising point of the 360. Will be when people complain about even more apps a year from now. And then saying that the 360 are free from it. Forgetting that it had add's. You know, when people have gotten used to how the dashboard look after store shutdown.
Download History has always been a mess on both Xbox 360 and PS3. Some reason having your digital library organized well is something they couldn't figure out until the next gen.
It is kind of funny seeing so many devoted fans of old dashboard considering that it is considered the worst of the three eras by a large portion of the 360 playerbase. So many consoles have not been updated specifically to avoid getting that dashboard.
This is why "digital content" is a plague. Today it's here, tomorrow - it's gone and you don't have any legal rights to do anything against it. And it's users who to blame for it. Literally. It's people's fault that this ever happend. That's why i buy as little of digital games and as much of physical copies as possible. Fakk these bastards with their "digital rental BS".
It’s gonna get worse my man, soon we’re gonna completely ditch disc, then there’s gonna start being “cloud exclusive” games which are gonna basically be on a time limit
The march or progress continues no matter how much we lose in the process, that is the way of the world. Not all hope is lost though, there are tens of thousands if not millions of people who are passionate about and dedicated to preserving and archiving digital media.
digital content is very much a monkeys paw, caus with digital releases indie devs who could never do proper physical release can get their games out there (xbox live arcade) but it does also mean that those digital only games WILL eventually meet their end in the public view
@@sleepydudespillowyeah, especially with how much bigger games are getting to the point that discs are basically just becoming a novelty in which you have to actually wait for the game to install digitally its why im keeping my eye on recent developments of a new disc format which could hold MUCH more data
@@rubysvndev Discs I think are becoming obsolete. Why hold onto something that is fragile, takes up space, and can only hold around one full-size game when a digital file on a flashdrive accomplishes the same end. That is not me saying that I dislike discs, but I don't see them standing the test of time anymore than VHS before it.
I'm glad playstation changed their minds after the amount of support for the ps3 they had Microsoft really doesn't care about their community at all this is a prime example right here I can bet you if every xbox player voice's their opinion Phil Spencer will probably reconsider and bring the 360 store back but if yall just lay around in limbo he ain't gunnna reverse anything I mean look at sony that's a example of voicing your opinion and look what happened we kepted our store.
It's probably not gonna last long either, since even Sony has been pretty shitty lately, especially when making decisions and censoring Japanese games as of late. While I'm glad Sony hasn't shut down the PSN store yet, it will be a matter of time before it's gone forever as well.
@Asaylum117 you do got a point and watching mystic's video they definitely been delisting stuff but luckily I bought everything I wanted before this whole problem but for the people that didn't I see your pain in wanting that preservation.
It is virtually unheard of for companies as big as Microsoft to reverse a major decision like this and they have no reason to reverse this one. They don't care about the community or our sentimentality, it is all about profit. They would not have shut it down if the Infrequent purchases made in the marketplace were not less than it costs to keep it going, and they would not turn a profit if they brought it back. The 360 is a discontinued console that no longer receives new releases, players are no longer regularly spending money on it anymore. The large amount of purchases spurred on by the closure is likely the first time they have made a profit from the 360 in years.
We should all make our voices heard about this dashboard change though, they should at least make the tiles take up more then half the screen, either fix that or I doibt it would happen but would be nice to have nxe or blades back as the final dashboard it stays on
No ads is nice, but it's so empty. If you're gonna go through this effort to change things, at least make it look decent. The stretched out tiles covering a small portion of the screen is just not it.
Really? Now the dashboard looks worse? No. It started the day the NXE became flat and then became what it was in the last few years. An ugly Menu filled with junk and ads. This now is actually a huge improvement compared to before! The first NXE like FSD is still the best though. You're right about one thing though. The Blades Dashboard would make more sense now.
i dont think i've ever seen him this mad but to be fair, this is definitely the worst they could've done with the dashboard. reverting it back to blades like you said or NXE would be a much better option than stripping down the most basic microsoft ui
I managed to take all the demos from the Xbox 360 store (A to Z), I have 2 consoles, 1 silm and 1 Elite, the Elite that I reserved for all the Xbox 360 demos, I called "The xbox 360 Demo console" and the silm all my games, 64 digital games and I have more room to install the other digital games
It might be a temporary error. My download tab didn’t work because of “internet issues” or something like that, but now it works, but not before an hour after that happened
My guess is so many people are trying to download stuff, sometimes it's gonna be too much for their servers. Mine kept erroring earlier which worried me, but I came back after playing a couple hours of Trials and everything works first time now. Probably won't later on when the afternoon hits in the US tho
Microsoft basically said screw you, And stripped everything the 360 had besides playing games, And making the dashboard look 100x worse. Should’ve stayed with NXE.
Its a catch 22 situation. The xbox dashboard looks great with no ads and it actually looks usable, but the market place has gone and the dashboard has changed after 10 or 11 years of looking the same.
I think the primary issue for most users is the unfamiliar layout, people do not like change very much. They could have kept the old dashboard and replaced the middle sections with something else. I am guessing by ads you mean the games and movies that were showcased on their respective tabs. The 360 hasn't had advertisements on it in years.
The scary part is what will happen to modern consoles in 20 years. Most games even on physical media require huge downloads, once those servers are taken down those games will become forever unplayable on unmodded consoles. The death of physical media is the death of retro gaming, I can still plug my N64 in and play it without issues but that won't be the same for Xbox One or newer consoles in the future.
Xbox Live still works it's just the store that is gone. Also if you go into your Download History under Account Management you can still download stuff you have bought and played back then.
Exactly. They removed the functions from the dashboard, that would now be dead in their function. I think it actually made it way more clean. I mean, why have a shop with nothing for sale? Now it is all about gaming physical media only.
I don't understand the criticism. I understand that people got used to the old style, but some changes need to be made. It is now clean, simple and makes the Xbox 360 a pure gaming machine. No extra options, no extra filler and other stuff like that. Just a clean experience just like the og Xbox. Ngl the Avatar takeout is an actual bad move.
While I agree with your opinion of the 360 store, the Xbox one has not been “👎💩” its been solid since like 2017 when new management took over the garbage launch
Yea it's wack. I checked it out yesterday after downloading the last few games I was going to get last week. It's depressing. I wish that as a final gesture of gratitude to the long time Xbox customers, they would have let you get back the old school 360 dashboard. Since they went through the trouble of removing big chunks of the dashboard anyway. I did download a game from the purchase history yesterday. You can buy a backwards compatible game on series x and you can then download it on your 360 so long as it's the same account. It worked for me no problem. RIP Xbox 360, there will never be another one like you.
Technically not since you can still buy 360/ps3 games on disc and even then some are backwards compatible (even though Xbox's backwards compatibility is a joke)
I’ve been playing 360 since 2006, the past few weeks have been stressful knowing the marketplace was shutting down. I will rock this console till death
I login faster, I don't see how it's any slower myself. A lot of what you can do and how fast you do it on the Xbox 360 seem to be based on your HD, and how full it is. My system is much faster with an almost empty HD, and much slower with a full or almost full one. So if you bought a bunch of games before the shutdown and your HD is really full, you'll notice the difference.
