It's that time of the Decade where we take a look at how Current Generation Titles are going to stack up against their Next Generation Counterparts. Here is the Battlefield 4 SP on the Xbox one and Xbox 360.

One of the coolest things for me (as a gamer and a visual whore) are the graphical changes between the successive generation of consoles. It's pretty awesome to see the leap between the two generations, and although the difference between Battlefield 4 Xbox 360 and Battlefield 4 Xbox One aren't going to be huge, we can see the changes that do occur, and only begin to imagine how good games are going to look in a few years on the Xbox One, PS4, and of course, the PC.
AND YES. I KNOW...PC MASTER GAMING RACE. But hey, its nice to get some new blood in the pipeline ;)
Some things to Keep In mind
Neither Console can output at 1080p
They are both being upscaled.
Both were recorded at 60FPS 1080p
Some key notable differences are:
Output Resolution (Clarity)
Draw Distance
Extra elements on the battlefield (Birds, Debris, barricades,etc)
Light filtering
Mutlisampled shadows
Anti Aliasing
Water effects (Both Ocean and Rain)
Facial Details
Explosions
Sunshafts
Xbox 360 is running at 30FPS

The xbox one version obviously looks better, but for a 2005 console the 360 version holds up pretty well.

X360 version still look incredible. And the most funny thing is that my X360 from 2005 can run B4 and my Laptop from 2011 can't.

That is because the laptop is using an integrated graphics card instead of a good worthwhile one. If you get a newer desktop or even cheap refurbished ones you will be able to play most new games on medium to high graphics better than any console.

***** yeah but the xbox 360 is a 199 dollar box even cheaper now and you cant build a pc with windows right now that runs battlefield 4 for 200 bucks or even 300 i own an xbox 360, xbox one, and 1500 custom built pc go even look on my channel and in reality consoles give you the best bang for your buck

FPS for dummies: "Your eyes can only see 27 FPS" That's just a myth. Frames are pictures that make up movement in a digital display. When you display, 2 or more frames per second it will produce an animation. When the number of frames increases for every second the animation will become more fluid. The more frames displayed every second the more pictures your eyes receive to be sent then processed by your brain. 30 FPS is enough for your brain to process motion. But when that number is increased or doubled (60) your eyes has even more pictures to send for your brain to process. Even technology can tell the difference. Older camcorders can see real-time images but can capture only 30 FPS. Now if you take that camcorder and record 30 FPS It will have no problem capturing all those Frames. But if you record 60 FPS the camcorder will have to cram 2 frames into 1. This causes both frames to blend creating a smoother image. If you rapidly shake your hand you can probably see an illusion of what happened a micro second before. That is because your brain is trying to process motion as smooth as possible. If your eyes could only see "30 FPS" the brain cannot process motion any smoother removing that illusion causing what you're seeing now to slightly jump between "Frames". You can experiment this yourself by taking that camcorder example and examining the difference between the 2 videos that recorded 30 and 60 FPS displays. Or just look at 2 screens side by side with different FPS... And now you learned how to better enjoy your gaming experience. (More FPS is smoother and raises awareness of what's happening in game.) PS: Even if your brain processes images at 27 FPS you would still see exactly the same as you do now.

You must had misunderstood me. Frames do make a difference at normal speeds, so does on slow motion. But its physically impossible for your brain to process in slow motion because its receiving much more images and information at the same time. That's why I didn't include it.

You are completely normal? But that difference can only be seen on a display that supports it. In the gaming aspect it is smoother no matter what display you have because there are less fps drops.

well ur wrong our brain can see only 24 fps that does not means there is no difference between 24 and 60 fps when u playing at 24 fps u will not feel smooth but when you play at 60 fps it will be smooth ,although there is no difference between 60 and 120 fps u will hardly notice any difference ,and other think is that Xbox One show more details and better resolution (1080p) where as Xbox 360 does not show details as Xbox one and resolution is (720 p which is upscaled to 1080p) but over all if you play on pc u can run game on 4k with max details with even 120 inch screen

It's amazing how beautiful Battlefield 4 looks on Xbox One, if games can look this good at Xbox One's first month of release, just imagine what the games on Xbox One will look like 4-6 years into its life cycle, definitely can't wait till then! :P

Actually, they've already reached their potential. Unlike last generation when developers were dealing with unique hardware and it took time to utilize it, the Xbox One and PS4's hardware are more similar to regular hardware. Like 86x-64x.

ppl need to understand that graphics has a limitation. The only reason ps2/xbox to ps3/360 was so different because it was a transition into hd. This gen is simply an upgrade

3:37, that one frame at 3:37 shows where the real differences in the hardware are. Geez, 1080p vs. 900p. How about weird fake fire vs. photo realistic fire, and on the Xbox One.

I don't play Battlefield, but I see the visual differences are clearly there, though I'm not impressed. I'd say best improvement this generation is the 60FPS, as I never liked that the better looking Xbox 360 titles had to drop to 30FPS. It feels like I can even play slightly better when the visuals are more fluid, helps me concentrate!

I will never understand why people thing they can see/ feel the 60 fps compared to 30 fps... 27 fps and more are NOT noticable. NOT noticable. You can think about whatever you want but you will NEVER EVER be able to see this. And I ll tell you why! Because the eye can only see 27 fps ... so there is no more possible. And also not for the brain. Because the brain gets its information from the eyes!

***** I'm feeling the exact opposite, to me it's hard to understand how not to see it. Running a game in 60 fps feels like silk compared to the same game at 30 fps. It's especially noticable on LCD TV's, and less on older CRT's. Modern TV's know the issue and often come with ways to compensate, filling up inbetween half the frames with ghost images of the previous frame to 'emulate' a 60FPS image. Such manners makes it harder to notice too.

on youtube you never see the difference. I have watched Battlefield 4 in PS3 and then on my PC, and the difference is quite huge, so you have to watch the game for yourself if you want to notice the difference between Xbox One and xbox 360.

People always whining about little graphical difference must have very poor short term memory. EVERY console generation in the history of consoles have had crossover periods. Let me put in in plain English. Would Battlefield 4 have looked like this on 360 if it was a 360 launch game? There were crossover games from xbox to 360 which were almost identical. Why don't people think before they opine?

all crossover games from xbox to xbox 360 were vastly superior. Same goes for ps1 to ps2. This just looks the same but with slightly more detail added in. Unlike all the other generations when i shatt bricks at seeing the new games graphics. This generation just seems.... meh

Constantine Carter Sorry but I have to disagree with you here! I can think of 3 games that were on the original Xbox and the 360...Tony Hawks American wasteland, Lego starwars 1 and Need for speed most wanted and they looked hardly any better on 360 compared to the original xbox! You also really cannot compare this generations crossover to the PS1-PS2 crossover as those machines were vastly different in technical capabilities whereas the PS4 and XBone aren't that much better in specs than the last gen of consoles. We really are only gonna see minor differences IMO like draw distance, resolution, slightly more detail etc...

Just played an xbox one on the weekend. Thoroughly let down by the graphics. Just a glorified xbox 360 with a slightly better graphics card that can render shadows and lighting better.

86SuperRay dude, you got it all wrong. you havent considered that xbox 360 runs this game at a lower resolution and cant process many activities compared to the xbox one. for example, look at 3:00 when he look outside you will notice there are no flying dust particles in the field on the xbox 360 and its a little bit blurry. secondly you where wrong by saying "brightness", it is not brightness, it is post processing. the xbox 360 cant post process (back- ground processing) lighting, animations, weather etc.

If you are a hardcore/true gamer it is. I own one and I can tell you that it is FAR better than the 360. There are a few things I miss from the old format of the dashboard and whatnot but the graphics and gameplay is awesome. I also love being able to record game clips.

You know, with open source game engines and stuff becoming more advanced, it makes me wonder if 7th generation games that can be played on today's game systems will become the next indie creations, like the side-scrolling games, but 1st/3rd person games with graphics like the Xbox 360 version of Battlefield 4.

Anybody who knows about graphics like me.I build computers there is a huge difference in quality. People are just used to huge jumps like the N64 to Xbox,or the halo 2.To halo 3 on Xbox 360 listen the ps3 and 360.Were advanced systems. So it will be a big difference in graphics. But not like comparing the movie Avatar to star ship troopers lol.Now listen to this when the 360 first came out the games were amazing.Right but they always build a system way more powerful then the games.So over the life of the system when they games get better.They wont fry the system case and point compare Skyrim or Mass effect 3 to the Xbox 360 first. Games they don't even look like the same.System because the games weren't maxing out the system.But here is what I am saying the games coming out.Now on the Xbox 1 already look better.The any 360 game so imagine what the games will look like in 2 or 3 years on the.Xbox 1 and Ps4 because Battlefield 4, Watch Dogs, COD ghost probably aren't even using. 1/4 the power of the Xbox 1 and Ps4

As I am in the lowest class of a console peasant, I still think they did bring out the best in the 360 and it still looks very nice.

yeah i know the campaign had so much potential but of course the game turns into a multiplayer based game, i love the multiplayer but a good campaign would've been nice. And people think im dumb for saying that COD ghosts is a bit better due to it having coop and a legit campaign and in general more variety. I know this may seem like a dumb ass rant but man its true.

Oh c'mon. DICE just fucked up the 360 port, there's no reason why it should be as muddy as it is. Crysis 1 and 2 had better graphics than this and they looked gorgeous even on the programming nightmare that was the PS3. Microsoft is just telling EA/DICE to make the graphics sucky so that more people buy an Xbox One.

Xbox One version actually looks like it has less anti aliasing, whether this is just because devs are more accustom to the 360's tool set over the Xbox Ones's, its great 2 see how the current gen actually stands up 2 next gen consoles, it just goes to show how much u can push out of these machines when you've spent years working with them. So we can definitely look forward to devs becoming more familiar with the next gens tool set and creating even better looking games in the future.

If anything, this really shows off the versatility of the Frostbite 3 engine. The team at DICE did a remarkable job of getting the game to look this good on the well-dated 360. The additional lighting, post processing and effects layered on to the Xbox One version work wonders for adding to the immersion of the game, but it would be foolish to expect a 'game changing' experience and generally speaking, the majority of the audience playing this game probably won't value the enhancements of the Xbox One version over the 360 version all that much.

Those were consoles with new architecture at the time. Xbox One and PS4 are designed with x86 architecture. The same as found on PCs. Do you read dev statements? Devs are maxing out the system. DICE had to limit Battlefield 4 to 900p/720p in order to run these visuals and attain 60 FPS performance.

For the people who say that the difference in quality is minimal, not only is this a console crossover game, but youtube can't stream at 60 fps. If you were to take two tvs side by side and compare the xbox 360 to the xbox one or the ps3 to the ps4, the differences would be prominent because you would be able to see the difference an extra 30 fps makes.

I don't think a visual comparison is the best way to show the next gen's improvement. The industry has hit the point where visual design changed aren't immediately obvious, but rather increased quality tiny details. The visual improvements from xbox to xbox 360, or gamecube to wii, for example, were really obvious and massive. Now we can get slightly more HD explosions, lens flare, and some bird flocks. After around a decade.

It's 2020, Cyberpunk2077 came out and seeing this there is no excuse that it's so unplayable on XONE and PS4. If BF4, GTA V and the Witcher 2 could run on the 360, playing straight from a frickin DVD, CP2077 should play like a dream on 2013's systems.

One of the greatest things I've heard (cause I don't have an Xbox One yet) about the Xbox One is the loading times verses 360. I did a simple search for that on RU-vid and it didn't really come up with anything. Someone should post a video of that comparison....eh hem. ;)

They may be maxing out the PS4 but the Xbox One has a vast array of potential power to unlock through the Cloud servers, that is why the Titanfall devs have said it is only one PC and Xbox One simply because the Xbox One has the potential unlock able in the cloud.

It really shouldn't be surprising that the first games aren't that much of a graphical leap. They usually never are on a new console. It always takes a while before developers start taking advantage of the full capabilities of the hardware.

If you think the Xbox One looks only "slightly better" then you need your eyes checking, just look at the difference in water and distant buildings, it's fantastic. It's not as big as the difference from Xbox to Xbox 360 bug I don't think anyone expected it to be, late 360 games looked fantastic so there wasn't that much room for improvement.

I'm glad the differences are 'minimal'. It shows me that games 1-2 years from now will only get better. Developers are still in current gen mode and not developing specifically for next gen. Just look at games when ps3/360 first came out compared to ps3/360 games now. There will be an equal or greater difference in ps4/xbo games now and a few years from now.

Used to be a big PC gamer, but not going to upgrade my PC (Macbook Pro so can't even....) to get GTA V, which is what I want to play, as well as a few other newer games. Such a casual rare gamer now that I have a job that getting the One is not worth it. Shocking how little a difference there is. I may have to get a 360 this year so I can play those games. It's absurd Microsoft wants you to spend 500 bucks on their slight improvement.

Go back and look at some of the best games on the original Xbox and the PS2. then, jump forward to launch games for the Xbox 360 and PS3. Not that much of an improvement either, The advancements and major improvements come later in the life cycle of the console. Look at some of the stuff that launched on PS3 and Xbox 360. Now look at stuff like Halo 4 and The Last of Us. Leaps and bounds beyond what originally came out without ever upgrading the system. Give it time and games will start to wow. The first ones never do.

Theres very small differences between the two videos, slightly better textures on the xbox one, slightly better shading, and that about sums it up. Three years down the road into the life cycle of the xbox one and this will look like N64 graphics. The only thing that you cant see (or hear) is the audio... these new systems will support more then 5.1, and that's where the emotion is. Its not just about visuals anymore. We have almost achieved realism, now we must concentrate on the other senses.

That is exactly what I was implying. The xbox one uses ddr3 memory mainly. So it will run its gpu on the ddr3 which is inferior to my GTX 570 GDDR5, but it may be that the gpu clock speed being better will compensate if there is not too much of a bottleneck with the ddr3 ram.
