This is how you fix the Xbox One controller joystick drifting problem! Fix your Xbox One Controller Drift and prevent the joystick from moving by itself! This is how you can fix your Xbox One Controller drift issue. Xbox One Controller Drift Fix 2 (SEE FIX 1 if you want to try an easier fix first) The Xbox One Controller Joystick Drifting has been permanently fixed in both of my controllers! This video series will show you two Xbox One controller drift solutions and how to resolve the problem with your Xbox One Controller moving by itself. I have two Xbox one controllers, both started drifting up on the right-hand analog stick. The issue was narrowed down to a common hardware problem in both controllers... This video explains what was found and how they were fixed! The second fix video is a little bit more complicated and requires you to take the controller completely apart to adjust and reset the joystick module.

Hey man, thank you for the video, your solution worked and I am thankful. I have an issue with the battery. After disassembly, the battery won't seem to turn the Xbox controlled on. It'll turn on if I connect it directly to the Xbox, but it won't if it's just the battery alone. What did I do wrong? Did I pull the motherboard too hard?

The plastic casing for adjusting the analog stick broke somehow and when im playing, going up on the analog stick is super slow and changing the sensitivity foes not help.

It really worked for me for LEFT STICK. The controller was stuck on UP and when moved then also stuck on DOWN. So I mainly rotated the socket anticlockwise - then moved the stick. Then clockwise, move around the stick. Finally, I repeated anticlockwise a couple of times and the problem was solved. Thanks a lot man.

Thank you! Great video. Just finished replacing the left stick. I've got rudimentary soldering skills. My only complaint is the right stick definitely feels softer in comparison. Anyone about to take the plunge I recommend setting aside time to do both sticks.

So I just did this on my controller. I wasn't getting drift, my joystick would just get stuck like you are saying. My issue was, the plastic piece popped out when my son dropped the controller. It was lodged in the bottom of the joystick causing it to get stuck. I just put the little plastic piece back where it belongs and it fixed my issue. Hope this can help somehow.

Thanks, took me a day but so worth it i dont wanna speak too early as its only been a few hours since i reassbled the controller. This is also a good oppotunity to thoroughly clean the controller and customise it! I spraypainted the front and side panels silver, looks amazing!

Adjusting the module worked, but I think you got something a little backwards. IF you adjust counter clockwise and turn it too much, you can force the controls to go inverted. I had to go clockwise to get them back to normal.

Not seen in the video, is there a left/tight adjustment as well? mine ever so slightly drifts to the right. I went to an online gamepad tester site and it shows to be ever so center to the right just a hair.

My controller was drifting down and to the left... Vertical I adjusted Clockwise and Horizontal I adjusted Clockwise and it fixed it 100%... All I think the adjustments does is loosen up the unit and restore it somewhat temporarily....

@@nameless0711 Yeah, these don't seem like potentiometers where I might understand if it were up/down clockwise/counterclockwise; like you said, seems they just tighten the unit holding the stick. That would also make sense for me because I'm guilty of pushing them too hard

This is late but may help someone in the future. Mine drifted up. Tried removing the grey clip. Didn’t do anything. So I put it back and tried this. It started doing what you said after I tested it. Kept going up after pressing up and kept moving down after pressing down. I adjusted the black thing back and forth a couple times. Couple turns clockwise and then back counter clockwise. I took the grey tab out again and everything worked good again. Basically a combination of both videos.

can confirm works, HIGHLY RECOMMEND testing before putting screws back, also circuit board has a pin connector so when putting board back down push in to connect it to second board or controller wont work at all. But after one or two adjustments it works flawlessly again. Thanks bro

Holy cow, this actually works!!! And it worked on my elite controller also. the right thumb stick used to go straight up, but not anymore. It's 99% better, hopefully it stays like it is. For anyone wondering about the elite, it's the same in the video but one extra step. There is a ribbon that connects the paddle portion underneath that you can remove. Good video

I have taken apart my Elite controller a couple times trying to resolve the forward stick drift on my left analog module. I can't get it to work. did your stick gradually move forward after a couple of seconds when left still?

felinefatality you will have to replace the analog stick if it doesn't work. I'd say this is kinda a temporary last ditch option. I have 2 elite controllers and it worked on one but not the other. in my opinion the thing that we are "adjusting" I don't think it's meant to be adjusted. we are more breaking it to make it work if that makes sense

Yeah, I have access to a soldering Iron, and took aerospace industrial electrical and mechanical courses, according to the ladies at the microsoft kiosk in my local mall, they are using better stick modules in the Gen II controllers, but my elite controller was a gift from my mother I did not ask for, so I'm going to perform some open heart surgery on her.

That is such a rip off, the little module is ~4.00-7.00 on amazon and if you know ANYBODY with a soldering iron, it took me about 3 minutes to get the controller completely apart and It would take about 20-30 minutes tops to unsolder the old module and solder a new one in. $80 an hour for someone who is just as certified as you could be?!? shoot, I'll do it for $25

act on both sensors: every stick has two, one for the horizontal and one for the vertical axis (so, in every controller there's four of them).

Just turn it the other way, it’s kinda sensitive and I think it only should need 1 full turn to fix the drift, not like 3

Well, i dont know if they changed out that black piece in the new controllers, but when you adjust it now(which you barely can, because the plastic is crap) the controller will no longer spring back to center.. Edit, i fixed the issue of not re-centering, but now my stick wont detect the down direction. Edit 2, After much adjusting with the controller plugged in and the Windows 10 Controller Properties open for viewing the center point, you can adjust the screw to try to get the axis back to center but this fix is a nightmare. It's certainly not 2 or 3 turns on the black plastic bit. Its barely a half a turn to adjust it now. i dont know if this is because of new components or what. I'm still gonna say, just buy a new controller.

if your good with soldering electronics then yes this is the way to go, by replacing the potentiometer joystick component, much cheaper to do than having to buy another controller .

In this video the analogs have black screw-like pieces on them to control its movement, he says to twist it multiple times in a certain direction to calibrate it. but for me (and apparently you too) after i turn it slightly in any direction, the analog moves in that direction but then i cant turn the screw any further.

The issue on my controller is that the drifting isn't visible, But it gives a command to go up/forward, You think this will still solve it? (Haven't tried it yet)

Worked for both controllers I had. I think I needed just a good cleaning . I couldn't get the right antilog stick to actually turn like you said in the video but it did rotate a small amount I wiggled it around and blew it out like an old nintindo game and got it back to new. Thank you.

Turning the sensor didn't work. It actually started drifting the way. So I replaced that small wheel sensor inside the stick itself. Now my controller works like it used to.

i usually dont comment on videos, but i checked this to see what others do to fix things, and based on both videos, these both will not help much when trying to fix drift issues, any of them 1) the first video suggested removing the retaining clip. this keeps the joystick centered to the button, making L3 and R3 easily clickable, as well as keeping it aligned. removing this may make L3 and r# harder to click, as well as making it more difficult to center your controllers joystick. usually not too much of a problem unless the game requires more sensitivity. 2) this video suggests using a screwdriver to adjust the potentiometers on the module. the fact of the matter is, those are turned by the module to express position. turning them will at best loosen any dirt that is in them ( which air would do easier) and at worse, will damage it causing more issues. if the potentiometer is off center, usually it is the module itself worn down. if it is drifting, the potentiometer controlling that axis is either dirty or worn. if dirty ,it needs cleaning with air or alcohol, and if worn, it needs replacing. unless you have extra controllers lying around, the best option is to desolder the module ( or potentiometer, if you can remove it easily) and solder a new one on.

I'm late, but you seem like the type of person that can actually help. My potentiometer is visibly off center. I opened the controller on the second day to see why i was drifting, so its not due to wear. Am i able to recenter it? or am i just fucked?

Exactly the only real fix is to replace it perferably from one from another controller cause the ones u get offline usually only last a couple months then are worse than the 1st one u had the drift to i use to buy ps2 controllers to take there analog sensors outa to fix 360 controllers and they actually felt better thn the og 360s but thems to tall for newer controllers so nowdays i just order lots of dead controllers and just hope for the best instead of ordering chinese nockoff analog modules actually has worked out pretty good cause dead controllers usually died on people b4 they got broke in or a shit ton of wear .

This is not how it works at all. You cannot manually adjust the x y axis. Those slots on the side of the parameters is for the axle inside of the module to fit into, that moves the disk inside the parameter. These are not screws people. You will damage these modules permanently. Microsoft keeps its licensed calibration software to themselves because they don't want the controllers fixed, they want you to buy them. The only thing you can do that doesn't require soldering is open the parameters (two green tabs on the side) take the disks out carefully, clean them with alcohol. Then blow it clean with compressed air. Move the joystick around as well to get any debry out

This worked for me but I have another problem as well: The left thumb stick is resistant to pressing forewords. I tried turning the screw clockwise (as I did anti-clockwise previously) however, that only caused down to become slightly resistant as well. So something's wrong with forewords on the left stick. I saw a solution to simply replace the module altogether but I really don't want to go there if I can avoid it! (Especially considering it involves ordering a part and using a solding iron and I really need to fix it asap.) Is there anything I can do?

Edit: Guys, after a closer look, I am changing my review from "worked!" to "actually this is harmful to the module". He suggests turning the center piece with a screwdriver. Well that's not even a screw, and what's more it does nothing. Took me a while to realize it, and almost broke the plastic center piece. Again - this is a bad suggestion.

xbigcalx bro how the fuck you break a controller in 6 months like I’ve had my lunar white controller for a couple years and the stick drift problem has only just began on it along with the rubber grips coming off a little bit but I fixed it with some super glue

Quick question. I have just completed the "easy way" by removing the grey plastic piece, and it has fixed the drifting issue so far. However, if it ever comes back, should I replace that piece before attempting this method or leave it out?
