Thanks so much for this - really helped me confidently diagnose a faulty hard drive. The steps to repair were very simple in the end: - Open Xbox (I had to watch another video which showed me the details of that) - remove old hard drive - replace with brand new hard drive (I didn’t need to do anything to preformat it so didn’t actually need the caddy I purchased at the same time) - download the Xbox boot software to a USB - startup Xbox and boot from USB - done ✅ Thanks to you and people like you for putting these guides together. It’s a selfless act that really helps us amateurs save £££’s - not to mention the enjoyment of doing it!
Bro you just saved my life I’ve been searching everywhere for a fix about this until I come across your video. You have the exact problem I have and now I know the problem
Thanks for the guide, excelllent work! Yours is the only guide I found describing the exact symtoms we were having. I managed to fix my grandchildren's xbox one s and also get the boot animation back. The original HDD had failed completely and wouldn't even spin up, so I replaced it with a new 1TB one. It had a BSOD and wouldn't enter safe mode. This guide worked a treat!
Thank you very very much for this video. Just bought a broken original xbox one that happened to suffer this problem and it's now working with a 640 GB hard drive that I rescued from my old PC.
I had the same issue as you. I ended up having to fix the original hard drive and clone it, because I could not get the new hard drive to take OSU. Just another solution for those seeking.
My xbox hard druve went faulty and i suspected that that was the problem. My dad said it cant be, i searched for a video. Basically yours was the only one that i could use. So i bought an ssd and it worked so rlly the hdd was faulty. Thx for this video. Life saver
Thanks! This just happened to my Xbox One S last weekend, got the E106 code. Offline reset got it to work for another day, then it locked up and has been acting like the Xbox you are working on in the video. I bought it new last July because my original Xbox One was having disc drive issues. The irony is I play more digital than disc based games now, so I was able to plug the old one back in until I could figure out what is wrong with the S. I keep all of my games on external HD's so the OS is the only thing on the internal hard drive (for both consoles). Both external's are working fine, I've tried playing different games from each one on my original Xbox with no issues (...and yes, my fingers are crossed that it stays that way lol).
Nice fix mate I get a lot in that customers thinking it has no output so assume it the hdmi port Seems like it’s getting a common fault with these hdds nowadays I’m sure you will reach you goal before end of the year mate 👍
Cheers mate, yeah the hard drives are getting older now so they're starting to develop more problems, but the main reason I put this video up is because I don't think there's much info online with this specific problem, so hopefully the people who need to will find this video :)
im waiting on monday to receive an xbox one s with the same problem the guy sold me for 35 euro. a friend of mine also back in the day ask me to fix his console because it had the same problem. when he gave it to me it have never cleaned it, i t was so dirty. i make it shine everywhere i did a hard reset from the power button and everything works until today ;)
I got the same problem but my xbox starts up for around 10 seconds then it shuts off, also I noticed the fan doesn't stat spinning. People say that it's due to a faulty power source but I know that isn't the case since I ordered a new one and there isn't any flickering light, also I had the green screen of death before xbox didn't start up. Could it still be the hard drive, or is it another problem. Nice video by the way, you sir earned a new sub.
I replaced my hard drive with a ssd and it was a pretty impressive improvement for loading games . I found that I had about a 50 percent improvement with loading borderlands 3 .
I had this "30 seconds" problem for 2 days, but when checking my hybrid SSD, it came up fine in disk management. Puzzled, I decided to put it back together and cycle connections on everything. Now it works. 🤷♂
I don’t know if you’ll see this but I’m really confused. My Xbox is having a similar issue (booting, no display and then turning off) but will occasionally work completely fine? I’m not sure if it’s just poor ventilation but would prefer confirmation before taking my whole console apart lol.
Ok, thanks for the advice 👍 You’re probably right, what confuses me though is why it sometimes works fine (and downloads updates and stuff like that onto the drive) but just sometimes doesn’t. Might have to get it sorted out!
Picked up an X1X for $60 that was listed as coming on for 30 seconds and then going off. Fingers crossed, but have a nice 1TB SSD I'm planning to pop in it and score a cheap X1X hopefully! Thx for the amazing channel.
Hi, so my xbox actually has this EXACT same problem, I know nothing about computers. Could I just order a hard drive from amazon or something then replace it? If so would I need to program it or something first? Thank you so much for helping me diagnose what's wrong btw, ur the best
Yeah you can just order a hard drive from amazon, but it would need to be prepared first. This video shows everything you need to do to be able to get it up and running again so as long as you follow this video it'll work great :)
I know I'm late but if I have an external hard drive so should it work as long as that does. I just wanted to make sure that is the problem before I spend $100 on an internal hard drive
Congrats on crushing 15x your sub count!!!!! Thank you so much for this video! I have a one x that is currently doing this exact thing so going to try and change the HD and see what happens from there!
Your video save me from buying another Xbox. Recently my Xbox was shutting off randomly, and I thought it was the Power Adapter it couldn't deliver the ideal power so I went ahead and got myself a new adapter even after I plugged in the new adapter it still shut off randomly so I was searching ways and means to solve this issue before I got myself a new Xbox. To my luck I stumble upon your video and it works perfectly now. Thankyou
That's awesome man, glad this video helped you! If I can save just one person the cost of a new console that's enough for me, I know the video was worth it :)
Hi there, i'm trying to fix my xbox. It's getting a no signal from the tv despite turning on (then turning off). What adapter do you use to read the hard drive? I'd rather buy the adapter and check the hard drive before buying a replacement part.
Most tower PCs will have an extra slot & power cable lead to add another SATA hd. You will need an extra SATA cable, nothing special. But, he probably used a USB-A to small sata w/ power for notebook size hd's. Also found w/ type C that can attach to a phone in otg mode or PC/laptop
Hey my console has been working perfectly well ever since I got it but this morning it just decided not to work like I'll press the power on button then I'll hear the beep but then immediately it switches itself off and I keep pressing then it will eventually go on. Once it goes on then it will go to the menu screen then go off after a few seconds
I have an Xbox I have an Xbox one x that sometimes turns off right after turning off and sometimes after loading a game. It has unlit into a pc monitor. it’s not overheating or anything. Any is it the same problem or is it something else?
@@thichin7460 I can remember what I did exactly that fixed the problem but I think I just took it apart and wiped everything down then put it all back together
Can u do an in-depth breakdown of immediate shutdowns I left my console in my camper and it got really humid. Took it all apart and everything is bone dry so idk if it even got wet. Unplugged every thing from the board and it still does it. I've heard from others that this could be many many things.
Not had this problem myself but I fixed a similar error with my mums ex partners xbox. Wouldn't do an online update so I did a manual offline update and it fixed the issue. Great informative video.
Yeah this is one of those rare situations but I've seen it myself a few times now, so I thought it would be best to do a video. Doing the OSU1 update generally fixes a lot of issues
I believe my sons hdd is bricked. No black screen. It won't even pair to the hdmi input but does the symptoms of running cool and turns off after bout 40 secs. I saw hdd kits on ebay w a flash drive to update software. Can this be done even tho I can't get input displayed from xbox? I haven't worked on consoles since the 360s and flashing drives and don't have my tools anymore so kinda figured hdd but not sure I should waste the money yet on a replacement.
My son is having the same problem with his xbox ive been looking online for solutions and found nothing was going to resort to Microsoft servicing it or replacing it but this would be so much cheaper
Hopefully this will help you, but if not I can pretty much guarantee an independent repair tech will be cheaper than Microsoft (unless you have warranty still). Fingers crossed you can get it working again :)
Kinda confused. My Xbox randomly stopped working one day. The HDMI screen would be on but the Xbox wouldn’t pop up. And then the a box would turn off after 30 seconds. So does that mean I need to open the bottom of the Xbox and take out the usb and buy a new one and it’ll be fine? If so how do Ik which one to buy and how much would it be?
my sons switches off after about 30 seconds also BUT theres no sound when it switches off. I think this may be the cpu / cpu fan issue. The fan is spinning and there isnt really any noticeable smell of burning. Any ideas ? Thanks.
Thanks for the video. Mine does the same but only after ten secs. Power supply and hard drive are the two main things I have seen as the cause. 🙏👍 Edit. Mine froze while I was playing used the controller to restart Xbox and problems ever since😢
Great video. I have to check this out for my own. I had a lightning strike last year and have had mine sitting since. I replaced the power supply but it turns on stays black and turns off after about 30 seconds. If it's the hard drive I'd much rather that than a board issue! I just need the software you used if it's my hard drive. I'm definitely subscribed now! Thanks
Thanks buddy, hopefully this will help you, it certainly sounds like a hard drive issue with a black screen and 30 seconds before shutdown for sure. Hope you get it sorted out :)
hi my xbox ones s slim shuts off randomly sometimes in 10 mins sometimes in 3 year had replaced thermal paste. anyidea what could be the issue if u have ever got any with smilar issue?
Thanks for your tutorial the xbox is working again there were problem with the HDD I was connected to the PC there were bad sectors. The program called HDD Regenerator was able to fix them all.
Hello Thecod3r thank you for the video I just subscribe to your chanel I want to ask you if the problem could be the same on series S because it turns on and I can see it boots up and you can see the screen for a few seconds and it powers off. I tried hard-reset with the bottoms and some it will do it the first time after that it will only beep once the power bottom but won't turn on. What do you think it is. The same as the one you worked on here?
have you run across a xbox one s booting on, stays on for 7 seconds, then powers down with tone. i pulled the plug on the system because it ws running sluggish and not loading, then i started getting the issue. im going to try this solution tonight and see what i find... but your very correct, there isnt a ton of fantastic troubleshooting for the system. great video.
@@carric21 no... That is still a mystery. I've repaired 5 other Xboxes since, and this one is still doing the same thing. We've replaced all recommended chips with known good ones. Still same scenario. I am stumped haha
So if I order a new hard drive an replace it that's all I have to do I don't have to download anything on to it or program it or anything like that. I have the exact same problem in the video but no computer
I had the exact same problem everything powered up but no screen and after 30 secs it would turn off all I did was unhook the hdd and blow some air in it hook it right back up and the Xbox came on did a update been working for a couple hours now
Mine is doing the same thing I bought a Samsung ssd put it in and still no signal and still shuts down after 30seconds all I can think of left to try is retimer chip replacement but why is it still shutting itself off after 30seconds?
@@TheCod3r What first happened was the fan in my Xbox one x stopped working replaced the fan, worked for about a week. then this no picture and shutting down issue started. Though i overheated the hard drive so replaced it with Samsung ssd ”both 1TB” but still have same issue... maybe I damaged hard drive port on motherboard but I visually see no damage to pins or the coupling. Did my Xbox just die?
Hey there, i have the same issue. If i replace my hdd with a new one and system update via usb like u did can i go online? If i can and another update comes up can i do it from inside or i have to do it manually again via usb?
Sort of the same kind of thing happening with this one i recently picked up. Tried restarting, reseting , updating the offline usb file. . Was so random. Finally pulled the drive out and plugged it into my PC. It actually hung the system at post! So ya. Weird failure of toshiba hdd
Hello! I have an Xbox one s that turns on for 5 seconds then shuts off, I replaced the retimer chip and checked the mosfets and everything seems okay, got any ideas on what else I could check?
i had some trouble getting my 480GB SSD to work doing installing it this way as of now i still don't know exactly what the issue was but i have been told the SSD must be 500gb or more. I did actualy manage to get a second 480GB SSD working what i did differently was i unpartitioned it and booted into safemode by holding eject and sink instead of letting it get their by detecting theirs nothing on the SSD and it does appear to have effected it cuz it didn't display an error that time and when i went to do the offline update it worked!
Hi pal just enquirie my Xbox is turning on for two seconds then switches off straight away do you know what problem that could be I love watching your stuff as I repair consoles but I don’t have clue what this could be I keep thinking hardrive but got feeling could be something to do with motherboard
My xbox one x is currently doing this. I turn it on and the light comes on for a few seconds before turning off. I can hear the xbox trying to work. It isn't loud. But I can hear "spinning". I wonder if it's a hardrive issue too...
@@gemgem_chan to be fair it could be loads of problems could be to do with your hardrive or could be something to do with on the motherboard best to have a multimeter to test all the mosfets and fuses if I figure it out I will let you know
@@TheCod3r thanks for replying,i rang an xbox tech in wales,he said apu/cpu the main chip may have cracked solder joints under it.have you ever tried reflowing the cpu/apu ever? as pictured here ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-bqSKDluZMmY.html but with an xbox one x? pulling my hair out over it lol
@@oneandonlytyler1 I have reflowed a couple of times but I wouldn't say this is apu related if it stays on for 10 seconds, with apu faults they either don't turn on at all or they turn on for a second and beep straight back off
@@TheCod3r when i say stays on for 10 seconds what i mean is the light comes on (no booting up and nothing through hdmi to screen)then beeps off as if the power has been cut,
@@oneandonlytyler1 oh ok it may just need looking at to figure out exactly what's happening to it. Id be happy to take a look for you if you can get it to me in Willenhall either by dropping it off or posting it
Thank God bro I'ma try this soon but I haven't played my Xbox for almost a year bro and I haven't found ANY information about this issue u deserve a new subscriber(it's me) and I have notifications on good work man and thanks
this is why I ordered like 10 500gb laptop hdds in a lot a long time ago plus i got more over the years thats my first goto if it does something like that or constantly errors on updates or even if someone says their games load really slow and see a shit ton of pop in textures n stuff the hdd is usually the cause them laptop hdds were never meant to constantly relay that mutch info for years at a time and most people never turn off their console so they hardley ever get a break
Yeah the issue with the hard drive is that even when the console is off it isn't turning the hdd off, so if you look at the power on hours for a one year old xbox the hard drive power on time is insane, because it's constantly powered as long as the power cable is installed
Genuine question buddy would you have a look at my sons Xbox? I can honestly send it across to you to look at along with payment. My sons Xbox does this exact same thing. Turns on and shuts off after the same amount of time. No over heating, it’s not the power supply. I’d do it myself but I have no idea how to do it. He’s autistic and he loves gaming, like really loves it and he feels lost not being able to use it. Please come back to me about it even if it’s just to say you don’t do it for others. Thank you in advance
Yeah I do offer repair services bud. If you can drop me an email at hello@consolefix.co.uk I can send over my address for you to send it in. I don't take payment until I've successfully repaired the console as I dont charge anything except return postage if I can't fix it. Cheers
@@TheCod3r thank you for the reply bud I appreciate it, I’ll email you after work if that’s alright and discuss price and exactly what’s wrong if that’s ok?
@@brettjohnson8599 not a problem buddy. If you prefer to call I can send my phone number over once you email. I'd put it on here but I'll end up being spammed half to death lol
@@TheCod3r that would be much appreciated buddy, just about to get in and I’ll email you in about 20 minutes or so. If you don’t mind sharing your number with me I can give you a call tomorrow around 12pm if that’s any good for you?
See mines kinda the same, it'll power on normally sometimes, an will let me load up a game. Then itll shut off and won't turn back on until it decides too. Idk what to do I've dusted it really well even took it apart and cleaned everything please help!
Yea I think that was the issue as well but I took the hard drive out and took it apart an gave it a good cleaning now my Xbox is working fine haha thanks though man your a life saver 🤙
Hey mate, I've got a Xbox One here with me that has a similar issue but the light flashes for a few seconds after touching the power screen button, goes solid for a second then shuts off, if you could help me that would be great, I do have a few other Xbox Ones that I can swap parts between to test too
Hi mate, sadly a beep on beep off issue where it turns off after a few seconds is a pretty broad range of potential causes. The problem is it could be one of hundreds of components causing the issue. If you did want to fix it yourself I do have quite a few videos going over some of the different processes to fix the issue so you may find some help by going through my videos. I could try and fix it for you but you would need to book it in via my website consolefix.co.uk
Thanks bro for the video i now watched your video but i didn't fix my xbox1 like this i did it different and its working now i bought it this morning from someone and it was doing the same thing and I now done fixing it im going to test it out
I took apart my Xbox One S and I hear some weird ass sound coming from the hard drive I don't know what the hell it is it goes on for 2 seconds and then off do I need a replacement or something
I have a question about my Xbox one s ...one morning I woke up I heard it go off I turned it back on it asked me to sign in I did after doing so it took over a minute trying to sign it so I rebooted the Xbox now it comes on but jus shows a black screen what went wrong any ideas??
My console does not cut on and then stay on for 30 seconds mine cuts on then immediately shuts off I've replaced a lot except for the hard drive I didn't have the motherboard looked at or the main board but there was no signs on the board of any damage or anyting but it just will not cut back on right
Obviously if you don't have a hair dryer you can just wrap it in a towel and leave it turned on for 30 mins 🤣 I'm joking by the way but that was an old 360 rrod fix back in the day .
@@TheCod3r I'm running one atm by using one of the huge cpu heatsinks ontop of the gpu with a fan ontop, its skecty but it works 100% stable, 360's where just fun to mod back inte day hahaha
Before you went completely crazy you should have put a non-working hard drive in there you should always keep a spare hard drive you know that works on the side for just one you have these type of consoles come in this way you can just slap the hard drive in and make sure there's no other problems like I do and this way if you throw it in there and you have these error codes come up you can troubleshoot and find out what the error codes are and this way you can straighten them out before you have to keep taking the machine apart I putting it back together again because it becomes monotonous
Hello, when I start my Xbox One S, the white light comes on and it sounds like it's turning on, but there's no picture and while it's on, it beeps regularly and turns off after 30 seconds, what is the problem?
i checked my hard drive and its fine but still shuts down when I turn it on. i don't want to use the blow dryer method but that's the only way it turns on please help

I have a question for everyone looking at this. Is this situation possible on an Xbox series X. My Xbox series X is doing the same thing but I know it doesn’t have a hard drive it has an ssd
I have a problem were it will turn on but when I'm on for about 15 to 30 secs it turns of and turns back on about 2 and then turns off is this the same as this or is this different and also the only way I can turn it on is by turning on my controller. please help me it makes me so mad
Same here, but i was using the front usb as a kind of bootleg power source to charge a disposable vape (done various times before) but somehting went wrong, shorted, and now ive got this problem
@A. LOADING i had a spare xbox that didn't work anymore and managed to salvage the harddrive from that one and switched it out for the one i fried by accident. Did the necessary offline update thing and it works just fine and now with even more GB than it had before. My theory is when i put my posh to charge i reversed the negative and positive wires and at that moment my harddrive went out for good so dont introduce another power supply to it, results in hd death
