@@MrTech2three Honestly, I've gone full blown into console ever since this Series S. Don't get me wrong I love PC, but between being a new dad, with full time work, and RU-vid hobby, it's just easier for me to dive into my gaming console with a more "relaxing" vibe. I still play my PC but not nearly as often now, the new gen systems tick a lot of boxes for me, and the freedom of PS+ and gamepass really do it for me. I do have a PS5 and a Series X as well, you can check out those reviews on the channel, thanks for watching!
@@MinimalisTech bro if you wanna save your money on games you gotta try changing your console to Argentina and buying using card trust me u would be Shopaholic after this lmao thats wht happened to me 🤣
The Series S is actually my first ever Microsoft console. Truth be told I didn't know much about the game pass service. It was the Series S and it's pricepoint that got my attention. Once I looked into the service and the Microsoft strategy this generation, it was a wrap for me personally. I opted not to pursue a PS5 and go for the Series S. About 9 months in at this point and without question I know I made the right choice this generation. I own a Seagate 4tb external drive prior to getting the Series S which allowed me to play a majority of gamepass games and buy some time until the external ssd price goes down. Plus I'm able to use quick resume and play enhanced games off the drive as well which was a pleasant surprise. The Series S was a genius move by Microsoft and a beast of a machine for its price.
@Ayman Sammo shit yeah ok I understand now. Tbh I mean I won’t get an Xbox cuz I have a functioning pc but for people that don’t have one I think it’s a tremendous investment
@@thelotus8285 Same here. It looked really good on my smaller 1080p TV intially. I recently bought a 4k TV but I messed up by not paying attention to the fact that it was a 60hz as opposed to 120hz, so I'm not quite able to get the max capabilities of the Series S that I was shooting for. But that's my fault for not knowing at the time. With that said I'm very pleased with what this little console is able to pull off.
@@ripewatermelonlol also, think about the people who NEVER owned a Microsoft console. In my case, the S is my first ever Xbox and I'm more than happy because I was waiting for that fuckin unicorn called PS5 which never came back around. Plus, the game pass is dope!
As an Xbox Series S owner you’ve hit all the pros & cons. However, I appreciate all the options the Xbox controller allows i.e. standard AA, rechargeable AA or the recharge packs. I use rechargeable AA’s and have them lined up and ready to hot swap at a moment’s notice. I can’t do that with PS3, PS4 or PS5. Best part I haven’t had to replace a single Xbox controller. Can’t say the same for built in battery controller that no longer holds a charge. I can even use my Xbox One S controller on the Series S! I believe the Xbox elite series 2 controller has built in rechargeable.
Yeah man that is what I do. I have my AA batteries lined up in order, charged and ready to go. Seems the quickest and simplest way to keep the gaming flowing.
My ps5 controller typically goes 14-16 hours on a single charge, so usually I tell myself if I get on at full charge (which obviously I do since it charges through the night) and I'm playing long enough to actually get a low battery alert, I need to just get off and go outside or go to bed lmao
@@mynameiswalterhartwellwhite420 14-16 hours on PS5 controllers? What games are you playing to get that long battery life? I would say the average battery life of PS5 controller is more like 10 hours or less which is why I picked up a second one from private seller for 40. I like every about PS5 controller except for the battery life.
@@hanseulchoi3617 mostly on games that I don't like using the adaptive triggers on. I've had my ps5 for almost a full month now and I've only ever gotten "low battery" alert once, whereas on ps4 it seemed to die all the time. I know the triggers and haptic feedback can drain battery life but they're not even on ps4 games so if I'm playing a ps4 game my controller lasts the entire day with still some juice left in it. Even on miles Morales, where you're constantly using the adaptive triggers, it lasts a good amount of time.
Haha! My wife got me into halo back in high school funny enough. She’s been watching me play. I might have to grab a 2nd Hope you two enjoy. Thanks for watching.
I own both X and S but i found myself playing my Series S more cause how convenient it is especially because i travel alot in my job so i bring it with me
@@wolfemanxd where do you plug it? I'm curious...like do you carry a portable screen? If so, which one...Or do you just into tv of any hotel you check in or some such..
I quite enjoyed this perspective and I love how clean and tasteful looking all of your setups are. Personally, most people won't be too concerned about this but I don't mind having to use AA batteries because as the controller gets older, I don't have to worry about an internal battery failing and having to deal with that. Overall though, despite a few shortcomings, the Series S is a lot of bang for the buck and an even better option for those who just want Game Pass. Plus it is readily available at retail like you say. For the price of the Series S, the best you could do for a PC would be a used office machine with integrated graphics or some old outdated gaming computer.
Facts thats what people don't understand about rechargeable controller. If the charging system malfunctions you are screwed and need a brand new controller. Sony players had so many issues with that through ps3 even now to ps5. That's why I love that microsoft hasn't gone that route because they are smart in that regard.
I'm playing Halo Infinite on my Series S and it felt great, some things just look natural and detailed. I'm playing on a 1080p screen so anything that the console runs at 1440p whether is Native or Dynamic just gets downsampled and the image looks better, the internet connection is just WAY better, went from 30 to 50mbps to 140 to 200mbps, filled the whole SSD in like 9 or 10 hours, the SSD makes anything run faster. This console may run everything at 30fps in the future but the loading times, download speed, graphics and space because it's a mini console, I can take it anywhere with his little cable and console. All that is a major upgrade.
I have actually always loved the fact Xbox controllers do NOT come with built in batteries .. at least with Xbox Controller if you get the rechargeable packs and they go bad you do NOT have to replace the whole controller. I get the convenience factor but people should really understand why this is actually a pro not a con
I repair controllers and consoles, and for it is by far the best because it is safer to fix and easier overall due the fact of not having a very sensible battery inside
I've been a Playstation fan for a while and can't fine a ps5 anywhere, or I wasn't wanting to pay bs prices for it. Microsoft has kept the series S well in stock and I got it on sale for $280 at Costco. Such a great deal, and with most of the games I played being cross platform, pretty much all my data carried over. Gaming on it was very smooth and the cloud gaming service is the best I've seen so far.
Got mine on black friday Walmart “Holiday Bundle” for $239 and looked for PS5 for 2 years/2 Christmas for my daughter and “NONE” to be found!#TeamXBOX(Now)#🚫PS5🚫#XBOX#S#GamePass
Awesome review! You’re right, the Series X and the PS5 won’t be available no time soon. That’s why I’m considering the Series S. Even though I have the Xbox One X, I’m still considering the S because of the quick resume (50 year dad/husband here) and the fact that it can play many last gen titles at 60 fps. I would love to get the Series X, but I might settle with the S. Thanks again for sharing your thoughts. Peace ✌️
It’s massively underrated. I had both Xbox’s but sold the Series X because they’re going for stupid money and I’m all digital now anyway. I love the form-factor
@@johnpreston230 that future next gen games will be optimized to run at the highest frames per second with (60-120fps) over resolution and graphical fidelity (ray tracing ect.). Certain games will vary depending what developers can squeeze out of the hardware, or what their willing too.
@@nathanbouquin9640 if this console could have 60fps 1080p (or 1440p) on every game coming out, I would consider it over a PC. I am super scared of 30fps. I hate 30fps more than anything. I am afraid when next gen games come out that's what this console will offer: awful 30fps gaming
I got a PS 5 last year but decided to get a Series S to go along with it and I’m glad I did. This is an amazing little system and Game Pass is the best value in gaming. Graphically…it might not be as powerful but it still looks great. I really don’t have anything negative to say about it as it’s worth every bit of $299. You really can’t go wrong with this system.
Awesome video. As much as I'd love a PS5, i genuinely cannot handle its size. The reason I want to get a Series S is because I'm moving out to a small apartment for college in a month, and I'd love to game but on a more compact console. This is my best bet.
unfortunately it's not available for everyone( in every country) and also obviously it must need very good internet, which also isn't available for eveyone..
Series S has been a great console for me. I'm a pretty casual gamer but I also enjoy the benefit of more modern graphics, quick loading and QUICK RESUME. I agree with your point, nobody has much of an excuse to not upgrade at this point. I went with Series S as I only have a 1080p TV thinking I would upgrade to Series X whenever I buy a new TV or monitor, but I honestly love this little console. Amazing value.
The series S is making it easier to transition to disc-less. I’m glad the Series X has a disc drive but I totally understand not having one in the series S. How long do you think it will be before discs are completely given up by the industry? I enjoy the battery bay on Xbox controllers, to me it’s extra versatile.
Honestly I think maybe this is the last Gen that will have a disc drive (Series X). I’d give it tops 5-7 years to drop the disc drive. Thanks for watching!
2 Pack Rechargeable Controller Battery Pack for Xbox One/Xbox Series X S with 4 Battery Cover Play and Charge Kit with Micro USB Charging Cable for Xbox 1 S/X/Elite Wireless Remote
I'd say it's Game pass that's leading the discless charge. I've had my X for 6 months now and I've used the disc drive exactly once. And that was for a game my brother lent me.
This tiny thing already has a special place in my heart. Me and my family went to Mexico last summer. My mom had just finished building her house and we were so exited to move in. But me and my brothers were so bored and wanted to game so bad. So we went out to a store that was like a small Costco and bought a series s! It was 8000 pesos which was 300 US dollars. Well worth it! I was able to redownload some of my games from the Microsoft store and played fifa with my bros😎 Of course I brought it back to the US with me
As someone with tight financial budgets, this is the perfect console for me! The value for bucks is amazing. I'm just a bit bummed about missing ps exclusives
Don’t do it jut save for the series x , prime example the s can’t run all the modes for cyberpunk and as games get bigger and better you won’t be to run them to full spec lkke the x just saying don’t buy it and get scammed save ykur mkney
@@planetsen it's not a scam, it's a legitimately good option for people who want to play current gen games without breaking the bank. it's awesome that Microsoft is giving us this option. @@icrowbot Yh but your missing my point the new games cyberpunk update for is instance only has 30fps ray trace where as the series x has performance aswell as the games get better the series s will become inferior trust me

Just picked up the X last week(I work at a place that sells electronics and we happened to get one series x and snatched it before anyone else did) very happy with it. Loading times and refresh rate are easily the biggest upgrades for me coming from a one s
Thanks a lot for this video, I’m about to go buy one today, i watched so many videos about the series s, and none showed and explained it as well as you did. This video sold me 👍🔥
I’ve really enjoyed the Xbox series S. I bought it because I just could not get hold of a series X, but as someone who’s not a serious gamer anyway, it ended up being a great low cost entry onto next-gen and a much better choice for me in the end. It’s great value (£249 in the UK, or $287.50 for those who deal in the dollar), it’s fast enough for me and for what I use it for and as you mentioned, buying the games from the online store will be the future anyway, so apart from a relatively small storage, it’s actually ended up being a great purchase.
Glad I got my Series S. I paid 289 at Costco and I’m happy with it and I don’t care if I only get 60 FPS. I got other things to worry about then putting other people down for having a somewhat less powerful console
damn g trust me !!! I was just scrolling through videos and it was on full screen and watched whole video and when you said about sub i though you be above mill sub count but damn the way you put everything togther respect video quality is top tier.
Ran into your channel man and no lie I though this one was one of the big guy channels so there is a LOT of potential here for you. Keep the good work up
Grabbed one around Christmas and I use it alot. Especially the cloud gaming. Playing on my tablet and then with the steel series 9x I'm set. Also grabbed an external hard drive and game pass ultimate. I don't think I'll upgrade to the series x...when the S is just as amazing and does what I need it to do.
I have a Series S. I super highly recommend buying the G-Story portable screen. This will turn your Series S into a portable unit you can take anywhere.
You can upload Series X/S enhanced game to a external SSD and transfer it again to the Xbox and they'll stay be enhanced. And you can still play through the external SSD but just not enhanced. The Xbox-to-SSD transfer for a game like Halo Infinite should take up to 7min max.
Nice review, I’m really enjoying the Series S, I recently bought an external storage not for gaming just to free up space on my hard drive, it was $53 for a 2T and it works flawlessly. Your absolute right Skyrim looks amazing on the Series S and sometimes it blows my mind that a $300 small console it packed with so much power.
The success of last gen carrying over my dude. PS4 killed it last gen it was amazing. This gen it's MUCH more even. Hoping for a banger of a gen again. I had a blast with the previous gen.
I heavily doubt that game developers are going to stick with disc drive for much longer. The push for buying all digital saves costs on materials for the console and for the disc makers. I agree that the storage capacity for this console is severely lacking and that's my only complaint. I wanted the Series X but with demand far outpacing supply, there just isn't a way for me to get a Series X without dropping close to $1,000 is next to impossible. I will stick with this one until the X is more readily available at MSRP cost. The first thing I plan to upgrade is the controller, having a battery pack in 2022 is just insulting so that was a big oversight for Microsoft.
You just got a subscriber! My series S plus game pass is the best purchase since my 360. The selection of games and backwards compatibility is 🔥. Best spent 250€ ever! Only downside is that my download speed since I'm living in a small town and we don't have the best ISP.
the xbox "memory card" costs the same as 3rd party nvme gen 4 drives, so you gain nothing by being able to open it up and put something else in there. you actually gain the convenience of just plugging a card into the back. still too expensive though. i'll just be deleting and downloading over and over again. gigabit internet helps
I highly recommend the sea gate expansion card i just got it and it adds like 956gb not the full TB but still i went from having 4 games on my console to now i have 12 and i still have 500 Gb left to add more games
yeah but for some people its too expensive, like it costs 240€ and the series s costs 269€ so it costs nearly as much as the console and most people would just prefer to buy the series x and not the series s and the card bc it costs 500€, it has built in 1tb of rom and it has a disk drive
Thought about buying X but decided to buy S (my first console) instead this tuesday and I fell in love with with instantly. Compact, powerful, and fast what more to ask for such pricepoint...
I am a pc gamer. But in my recent relocation, my pc is still in transit. Buying another gaming pc these days were just ridiculously priced. End up buying an xbox series s and it arrives even quicker than buying my tv. So excited to have it setup soon. Being able to play something is great as my laptop is completely hopeless that it cannot play anything in my steam library except uno and euro truck sim2.
I have the S and the ps5 and I'm genuinely disappointed in the ps5 but love the series s!!! It's backwards compatibility list is brilliant but the PS4 offers only PS4 games yet can't actually even play all of them properly 😨. Honestly if you're deciding between the Xbox and a ps5...... As a long time PlayStation player the ps5 truly is disappointing in terms of features so get a xbox
I have both as well and Ps5 i not disappointing at all, it just depends on what games each person likes. Let’s not talk about features either because they both have their own but ps5 truly put in some work on the new controller and it’s features. Everyone likes different stuff tho so you can’t say one is better than the other just cause you think so.
@@marcoer7950 I love my Ps5! The graphics and the controller. Its true next gen with series x. I have a one x with 2tb ssd harddrive the 4k is beautiful. Once I play the ps5 with the same game night and day. Comparing a series s to a ps5 is embarrassing. Sony just made a post that they are short chips so we will have even less of them this year.
Since I got my series s I’ve decided too use it for gaming and use my one s for Blu ray and streaming media stuff since the series s is a bit more powerful then the one s like loading games really fast plus I’m some how more excited on getting software updates on my series s then my one s since it keeps getting more and more features that aren’t available on the one like the color filters and the dynamic backgrounds unfortunately the software updates rarely happen like every month or two which is a bummer that we have too wait that long for it too happen though
Great video. Very detailed review. But I find it really convenient to have to swap out with charged batteries and continue with almost no downtime. It'll be way too inconvenient if my controller runs out of battery and have to wait over 20 minutes to charge it.
After seeing a few recent reviews of the series s, I’d probably get one if I wasn’t so lucky when I happened to find a series X at my local Costco a couple months ago. I would be disappointed with the small ssd if I got one though.
Haha! I looooove the series s. But I literally got lucky yesterday on Amazon and saw them in stock. I’ve got a series x arriving today. Im looking forward to comparing them
@@MinimalisTech let us know how it compares. Honestly love my Series S but every now and then wish I had a Series X instead. (for no reason right now except a bigger storage and native 4K which honestly i dont notice)
I see the Series X as the better buy due to storage alone if you can get one, and of course it is more powerful, although I still think the S is a good buy.
It is the only thing you can buy. I don't think it is a bad system but everything about it seems to be comercial. I'm very disappointed with the storage options.
@@slylord8915 I think the same I don't think Microsoft would just not make it usable in 3 4 years it's pretty much a cheaper x I'll probably get the x when I need to
I love not having built in batteries. It gives you options so you can quickly swap battery packs and not need to keep it plugged it. Also it makes the controllers 15 dollars cheaper to purchase and no need to throw away your controller if the battery goes to shit.
That's how I exactly feel about the 1TB expansion card "Cash Grab" which seems more targeted towards Series S than Series X making Series S not so great value in the end if you want to leave many games to play.
@@Benplaysitall Main advantage of Xbox over PS5 is the gamepass and quick resume. With this, you will most likely start downloading all those games from the library to try them out which will end up storing them for you to come back to. And some of the games like Forza 5, Halo Infinite or co-op games aren't something you can just finish and move on. So you will have few games that will always be downloaded on a console making that tiny storage even smaller. So if you are a gamer that likes to only play one or two games a time, than Series S may work for you. For me, I am not like that and I do not constantly want to download/delete games as I would like to keep decent amount games on drive for me to cycle between games.
@@Benplaysitall If you want to keep Series S/X games, those have to be on the console unless you want to proceed with purchasing the Xbox 1TB expansion which is just very expansive.
Series S is good but I can definitely tell the difference when I upgraded to the X and the graphic performance and performance upgrade. The speed of loading the games is pretty close to the same, but the graphics are night and day difference.

Yeah it will be huge a difference but the only reason people will be buying a series S is because they don’t play on a higher res then 1080 or 1440 at 60-120 FPS and don’t want to pay/can’t pay or find one for sale that’s not overpriced so although your right most people wouldn’t be able to acess the difference it might just feel slightly better
@@slylord8915 There is a big difference even at 1080p. Everyone on fortnite was a default skin because it couldn’t render everything without lagging, even landing in a hotspot made it lag. in minecraft you can literally double the res and render distance which is huge. On the surface it doesn’t seem like much, but once you play it you will see a night and day difference
I own a series x however I just bought the series s for my bedroom. I was using my super old day one Xbox one. And the controller and everything was worn out and old. But due to systems being hard to get right now. You can sell the og Xbox for over $150 at GameStop. I was already planing on buying a new controller for my room. But at that value? I ended up just buying the new digital console. Now my room looks very clean without having a giant receiver. It’s my secondary console and I love it
