I did a halfway version of this. Didn’t mess with the board or connection points. Just removed the top cover, the sticks and used a cotton swab and 91% isopropyl alcohol to clean around the stick housing. Used compressed air to flush out the stick “joints” and it finally stopped drifting…..for now.

Yes it helps sometimes. But most times the whole thing just needs to be replaced.

This video was extremely helpful, but I ended up overheating the board. What temperature and fan speed did you use for the heat gun?
@reaperselectronics
@reaperselectronics Год назад
I don't remember off the top of my head but it's under my normal motherboard temperature of 438°C. However you can run it hot if you're fast. I'd say maybe 415°C. I'm glad you thought it was helpful! Thank you

I'm going to try this without removing all of those cables, seems like that way creates way more work for myself having to unsolder and resolder them :p Thanks for the video though, will prove to be very helpful when my parts arrive I'm sure!

Awesome! It is a preference for sure. I like to have a free floating piece to work with. But any way will work just be careful not to burn anything.

I tried to fix my ps4 controller and I completely burned it out. Now after a year my xbox controller has a drift and I will try to fix and take a revenge for my ps4 controller! I learned A LOT from my past, hope for me to fix it. **I'm waiting for my joysticks to arrive and I'll update my comment since I finished.

Hopefully you get it fixed! Be careful not to knock off any components. Try to add heat directly to the bottom of the analog while pulling down on the stick.

This seems to be harder than i thought. I mean I've got solder Iron but I haven't got that holder or a heater. I'm not sure if I could unsold that part of board effectively. I've got a little bit stick drift for now but its not that bothersome.
@reaperselectronics
@reaperselectronics 10 месяцев назад
It is not very easy at first. Especially just having a soldering iron. You can use a solder wick and flux with a plunger tool but it takes longer.

I’m having trouble desoldering the analog stick. Am I supposed to melt the metal like needle from the analog or no I can’t get the solder to melt
@MatthewColombo-sh7yl
@MatthewColombo-sh7yl 26 дней назад
It's got leaded solder which has higher melting point. You don't want iron too hot tho to risk damaging board. Keep it 350-400c get some regular solder. On each point just mix it in. Then add some flux and should have no issue getting off with wick

I have similar issue with my controller but its not xbox controller its cosmic byte xenon. Is this the only way to fix this kind of issue? I dont know much about this soldering so I might ruin the controller fully. Is there any other way to fix it?
@user84074
@user84074 3 месяца назад
You could try cleaning everything with isopropyl alcohol and compressed air after taking it apart, but this is the only method to actually repair a drifting stick. Otherwise, pay someone to do this (a repair shop) or buy a new controller

Hi I heard that there's a huge problem with buttons not responding correctly when you pres them (ABXY), and if it's true, how often you meet this problem?
@reaperselectronics
@reaperselectronics 8 месяцев назад
99% of the time if you clean the button contacts underneath the physical button with alcohol and a cotton swab it will fix that issue. Only when people are extremely rough with the controller it won't fix it. Otherwise a simple qtip with alcohol solves it.

@@reaperselectronicsHi just got this controller and, right trigger has a 3mm. dead zone, can it be fixed or just return the controller?, i tried updating firmware and it helped a bit, and now it's 2mm. Also I hear a weird noise in the Xbox button area (when controller is on), but only when I bring the controller really close to my ear, is that sound normal? I hope you respond soon!

@reaperselectronics
@reaperselectronics Год назад
I did not see this until now. I apologize. Every time I replace analogs they aren't directly centered but don't drift. Unless you're a machine it's impossible to make it dead center. Is that what you're asking? Or is it still drifting? In some cases upon removal of the old analogs, plastic residue is left which can teeter the analog to one side or the other. So the plastic residue would have to be scraped off prior to installing the new analog.
@ghieth937
@ghieth937 Год назад
@@reaperselectronics No worries mate 😀 I ment, the new analougs are already drifting consideribely after soldering them. cuz they are not 10K calibrated from the manufacter.
@reaperselectronics
@reaperselectronics Год назад
@@ghieth937 I have had this happen as well before. Sometimes they just aren't calibrated right. The tensioners they use are cheap to begin with. Easy to mess up. But yes I've had people send me bad ones before too

Depends on temperature. If you get your soldering iron super hot, then use a thin wick with flux it will do it. Depends on the heat, wick thickness and flux.
