There's something very therapeutic about watching you work Peter. Plus there's no better feeling than fixing your classic yourself with your guidance of course. Thankyou.
Keep up the great work Peter, I love your videos they are very informative. I've done quite a bit of work on the old fords in my day so it brings back a lot of memories of what went where whats the correct bracket etc and I love it. And just like you I'm all for factory correct I've recently bought a zd fairlane my teenage dream car and have spent the last couple of months fixing everything back to factory. I have recently been diagnosed with cancer and I have found the process of fixing the little things on the car so therapeutic. Keep up the great work mate, but one thing I will say is don't forget to get these gems out as well fixing them is wonderful but driving them is enjoying all the hard work you put in to make them the beautiful restoration you have created.
Thanks Rick and I'm so sorry for your rotten diagnosis. There is a lot to be said for altering ones project a bit at a time to bring it up to our standards, in our case factory looking original. I can't afford these cars in good condition, so have to make them from parts or get trashed ones... It gives me a lot of satisfaction starting with an awful looking 'wreck' and bringing it back to new again. Even as a little kid I would rummage through hard rubbish piles looking for old discarded household appliances, clean them up, test them and offer them to people (who never wanted them haha). Get better mate and keep me posted on your work, cheers.
@PeterAndersons will do buddy, I feel the same as you I love factory thank God for ebay gumtree market place etc it's amazing how many parts people have packed away on shelves and now also the amount of reports parts also it helps us keep our treasures on the road, as always keep up the great work I love it.
Hi Pete, hope you get better soon. Bought the same exhaust from those guys, spoke with them, awesome help, shipped to SA, fitted perfectly. Cant complain for $600. Good progress on the XC.
Hello Peter, that brake pedal rubber looks like one from a Valiant. I learned to drive in the family VH Regal 770 318 V8 so that pedal is very familiar. Cheers.
G’day Peter, Sorry to hear your crook. Get well soon. I think you may be right about the brown door not being original to old rusty (ZJ Fairlane for your audience). The LTD front is probably another clue that it was messed with. 😊. My other front door, I can put my fist through the rust hole on the bottom but the skin is good. Go figure…
That exhaust system you are putting on the XC seems pretty choked up. I’d the engine in the XC totally standard? Or Have you at least put a bit of a mild cam and more compression to wake it up a bit? In standard form they are pretty asthmatic. In saying all that I’m looking forward to seeing the car finished as you have done a great job on it.
Yes it's a two inch dual system which was the stock diameter. The mufflers are straight through which it less restrictive than original, but I have to keep dollars down at this stage. I would have liked a dual 2 1/4 but all good. The engine has a much better cam than stock which has been dialled in so there won't be the performance issues the original 27A engines had, cheers.
@@PeterAndersons I can appreciate the $$ can easily add up in car restos when you add everything you want, hence some compromises need to be made. Thanks for the reply and I look forward to seeing the car when it’s finished.
Could be a replacement door in that condition (the red one). I have one here. had a date stamped 17/12/93 just above the lock striker catch. The yellow door is a write off with no crash bar, it could have been removed during a skin change.
Hope the covid clears pretty quick Peter, I've had it myself and though it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be it just sapped my strength so I could barely do anything for four days. It wasn't as bad as your average bad cold and in most cases it's over in just a few days. I'm surprised you were out working in the shed as long as you were. One day, you'll be sitting in the XC, finished and registered and all the trials and tribulations will be no more than a memory and you'll be so glad you finally got her over the finish line.
Does your zk have an electric boot release? If so the under dash cover your going to fit doesn't have the provision for it. Should be very similar to the wagon one you have. One hole is used for boot release button and the other is blanked off. Is the wagon one you have definitely off a wagon?
GDAY Peter Phill with the xf Falcon put some light on the yellow door for the zk they made Aftermarket panels in the mid to late 90,s buy triple sss or AP panel house hope that is some help to you keep up the great work
sorry that the handbrake cable does not fit it came off a late update gxl .it was way too long to fit my xb .so i don't know if the pivot points changed on the later shells ?
My brother knows someone with an XF who changed the whole drivers door (not matching color) to fix a broken door handle. I wonder if your fairlane was a similar story they swapped the doors from a donor. The burgandy door may be off a late XF or XH ute.
