The whole concept of Alti was so cool. An amazon with powers

100% agree. This show took a ton of risks. To say the highs outweighed the lows is an understatement.

To think about it I think the show The 100 was heavily inspired by Xena Warrior Princess with the sci-fi and warrior aspects. Xena and Lexa are very similar both Brunette, blue eyed and tough warrior women. Gabrielle and Clarke both Blonde, blue eyed and healing women but become warriors themselves as time goes on throughout both shows.

It really was, it has marvel level ideas just needed 2024 cgi and maybe slightly better dialogue lol. BUT DONT TOUCH THE AYAYAYAYAYAAYAYA KICK!

I'm happy to see I wasn't the only one. I was like 11-12 years old when this episode first came out and watching Xena and Gabrielle getting beaten like this, combined with the crucifixion flashes was too much for my little 12yo self and had crying.

Alti was possibly Xena’s biggest threat. I enjoyed watching her and Xena more than Callisto.

Not really. In season 5's "Them Bones, Them Bones" Yakut from the Northern Amazons covered Alti's bones with amber in order to trap her soul. I guess that means that Alti cannot reincarnate anymore.

@@Bardim18 Because of the amber, Alti couldn't return in _Xena's_ proper lifetime anymore. She was trying to cheat her way back to life after being killed in Sin Trade when they sealed her in Them Bones. That's all "one" existence. Every other time we see her is a future life, like India or the present, or an alternate timeline like When Fates Collide. Those instances can be messed with, but her proper life in Xena's time is as the Siberian shaman and that's over for good.

@@hitmanshax1200 Η Καλλιστω θεωρειται villain γιατι αν και εχει συμπαθητικο backstory σκοτωνει δεξια και αριστερα πιστευοντας οτι η Ζηνα την εκανε κακια οταν σκοτωσε την οικογενεια της. Η Καλλιστω σκοτωσε τον αντρα της Γαβριελλας, πηγε να σκοτωσει τη μανα της Ζηνας, σκοτωσε τη μανα του Ηρακλη πισω στο χρονο (ο Ιολαος το αλλαξε αυτο) και ολα αυτα μονο και μονο επειδη η Γαβριελλα και ο Ηρακλης ειναι φιλοι της Ζηνας. Ναι η Αλτι καταραστηκε το παιδι της Ζηνας αλλα η Καλλιστω βοηθησε την Ελπιδα να σκοτωσει το παιδι της Ζηνας. Επισης η Καλλιστω ειναι ισαξια της Ζηνας στη μαχη και στο στρατηγικο μυαλο αν και τρελη και αργοτερα εγινε αθανατη, θεα και δαιμονας. Μην ξεχνας επισης οτι η Καλλιστω μπορουσε να χειριστεί το Σακραμ εξισου καλα με τη Ζηνα, ενω αρχικα η Ζηνα ηταν η μονη που μπορουσε να το κανει. Η Αλτι ειναι απλα μια θνητη σαμανισα με ψυχικες δυναμεις και σχεδον καθολου μαχητικη ικανοτητα. Οχι οτι η Αλτι ηταν χαλια σαν χαρακτηρας, ισα ισα, αλλα φιλε η Καλλιστω ηταν το κατι αλλο στη σειρα. Αυτο που λες οτι η Καλλιστω σκοτωσε τους γονεις της αθελα της συνεβη στο επεισοδιο Armageddon Now του Ηρακλη και ηταν μια αλλη πραγματικοτητα που δημιουργησε η Καλλιστω οταν σκοτωσε την Αλκμηνη πριν γεννηθει ο Ηρακλης και αλλαξε ολη την ιστορια. Ο Ιολαος ξαναπηγε στο παρελθον και εσωσε την Αλκμηνη και ξαναεκανε την ιστορια σωστη, οποτε το οτι η Καλλιστω σκοτωσε τους γονεις της καταλαθος ειναι σαν να μην εγινε ποτε.

@Joke Master Το πρώτο πράγμα που κάνει η Καλλιστώ όταν την πρώτο βλέπουμε στη σειρά είναι να πιάσει το Σακραμ, κάτι που μόνο η Ζηνα μπορούσε να κάνει μέχρι τότε. Από μια τόσο απλή σκηνή καταλάβαμε όλοι, ακόμα και η ίδια η Ζηνα, πόσο πολύ απειλητική είναι η Καλλιστώ.

@@Xhanatos What? lol. Herc was never a foe of Xena on her show and she also beat him one-on- one once on his show but she became distracted during the fight and he gained the upper hand. Ares in my eyes was also never a real foe of hers, he just wanted her for himself and lets be honest she spanked Aries in a fight every single time. Ceasar was a good foe but he didnt have the impact of Callisto & Alti.💁🏾‍♂️

@@SnoopVee Xena beat Ares several times and beat Ceasar in Britannia , made him to kill Crassus and made a fool of him . Glad he was killed for his own people though, he was a megalomaniac. Herc ended up being an allied.

Amazonas are real powerful and strong woman not clumsy they are strong. Xena is amazona. I think she is also daughter of god or goddesses she is half immortal like Hercules.

@@cornet7934 She became a goddess, but she was not pure evil. Alti was. She was so powerful in fact that she made it to the future along with Xena and Gabrielle. Callisto's powers aren't match for Alti's. She could make her suffer with the deaths of her family on and on.

I think she looks better with her short hair, at least in this season. Next season when it started growing back she looked awful.

Astrius I liked it longer. I always wondered if the show made her cut it or if it was her decision

@@sxnder I know from an interview that Renee O'Connor had, she said that she had tried on a wig for the Epiphany/Vision scenes Gabbi saw through Alti during their fight in this episode. So to answer your question, it would have been the decision of the show and not Renee's because at the end of this episode Gabbi decides to cut her hair anyway. Usually, it's the Show (Producers, Head Writers...) that make the decisions on a character change and how/when/where the show is going to go in as season progress.

I loved Gabrielle's long hair. It was gorgeous especially in "Devi." Her short hair didn't fit the time period and looked awful in season 4. They grew it out a little so it looked better but never great. The modern cut was a bad move IMO.

@@Nepthu you can put Renee O'Connor in anything and she still LOOKS great! Actually, Renee's short hair DID suite her! Gabbi was a character who loved change. That's why you see her in different outfits throughout the seasons of Xena. Her character actually grew as the seasons progressed anyway and she was always doing something with her hair, fashion styles as well. If she had stayed the same boring Gabrielle that she was when she met Xena, her character would NEVER have grown and would've been boring all throughout the Xena seasons! I'm glad Renee added changes to Gabrielle!

Definitely. She had a harder time with Alti than she does killing the Olympian Gods, fighting Odin and killing Mephistopheles. Alti doesn’t really have fighting skill during her time with the amazons, but her shamanistic powers kept her feared by others. Her fighting power comes from her re-incarnated form in the future who is a warrior and conqueror. The combination of the two is what we see at play here and it was pretty fierce.

@@jcb3933 when they got to the actual era they realized that much of her power came from all the evil of the world so her shamaness powers kinda upgrade her actual powers in general that's why Xena had to use her karmic power which is really different from actual power,I think if it would have not being for Najara to help them they would have died for real

@@enribelramirez9480 that is quite true about her shamanistic powers. Alti has always been such an interesting character and wish we knew more about her origins and lust for evil power. Her physical fighting abilities though come from her future reincarnated self as a warrior and conqueror.

I did something similar. I used to draw Gabrielle’s designs after seeing this episode and my idiot classmates accused me of drawing gang symbols, saying I could get suspended.

Yeah. This scene rattled me during its original release (age 11). Especially the treatment of Gab. Possibly the series' most intense fight.

I hated it when they cut her hair. It looked too modern. Plus the long hair was gorgeous especially in "Devi."

Tapert was married to Lawless at the time. Maybe one of them thought Renee was looking too good with her long hair.

Her voice is different in "When Fates Collide."

She has a normal voice in "When Fates Collide" as well as the beginning of "Send In The Clones". I like her normal voice better.

Claire Stansfield said she took Miranda Richardson 's work as an example in the TV series Merlin. Interview: " I had just seen Merlin (TV miniseries, Steve Barron, 1998), at the time, and I thought Miranda Richardson did such a wonderful job as Mab. I asked Rob Tapert if I could play Alti like Mab, with the eye makeup and the whispery growl, and he said "Yeah!" I wanted to make it more scary and thought that was a way to do it. Whenever I get into that "wicked witch" mode I just "become" that evil character. In BETWEEN THE LINES I am so unbelievably evil, it's just beyond evil ".

Lao Ma's powers are difficult to harness and to master it requires deep meditation and immersion into a certain mindset which takes years to accomplish. Also Lao Ma's powers come and go like the wind if you don't have a good handle on it.

@@jameslyon2338 No, Alti is not more powerful than Lao ma. always when facing Xena she uses the worst Memories of Xena as a weapon. In addition she has more knowledge than Xena. but always when Alti faced someone with knowledge equal to hers, she lost it was like this with Cyane and it was like this now with Naima.

In season 4 she tried to leave Gabrielle many times because of that vision but as you said Gabrielle has always been really stubborn when it comes to Xena

She *did* tell her about her vision. Not immediately, but they talk about it at the start of Past Imperfect (and go on to argue about Xena trying to steer Gabrielle away from danger).
