A couple of years back, I switched from my Wacom tablet to the Xencelabs medium tablet bundle and haven't looked back! The quality is outstanding, their customer support should you need it, is prompt and friendly. Given how thoughtfully their products are designed, I have no doubt this display tablet will be a hit.

Out of all the major tablet companies I admire the way Xencelabs seems to value the artist needs and feedback. If they can keep this up throughout their growth I think they will become the standard for artist

$1250? That seems high. I was hoping for a $800-1000 sweet spot. EDIT: seems like the Essentials SKU is $999 but unavailable atm. But you get a lot of value in the Bundle SKU! Also, despite being critical of price, this looks like another solid, great product from Xencelabs for professional creatives.

Ok. Seems like a drawing tablet to me. Apple just announced barrel rotation while Wacom just discontinued the only other device that offered barrel rotation in the ENTIRE tablet market. The only reason I can come up with that this feature isn't being included in this, or ANY other tablet, is that apple has somehow bought all the parts and imprisoned the people who know how to make them. Either that or the xencelabs and Wacom don't realize how important this feature is and that it should have been a basic part of every drawing tablet since 2012 when it first hit the market. Where y'all at?

Without putting power (I.e. a battery) on the pen, sensing rotation is tricky and makes the pen very fat (e.g. Wacom Art Pen). Wacom found that not that many artists bought that pen and few software companies developed for it. Perhaps if it were standard, that would change.

I saw the 16 inch model at Vertex Conference and was impressed with how thin it was. I've had my pen tablet for 3 years now and have had no problems with it, so ordering this today was a no brainer. I am a bit worried about OLED burn-in though, I know OLEDs have been getting better but with this being a productivity tool, the UI for apps Photoshop or Zbrush are going to be on the display A LOT.

I’m just wondering how the 2year warranty would work - I live in Australia. I can choose Australia in the shop but the payment is still displayed in US $ so it seams everything is based in the US. Wacom has a “Wacom Australia eStore” prices are listed in AUD, this gives me more confidence regarding warranty.

Love Xencelabs and have 24 display myself which is great. However, they mentioned a VESA compatible stand for the 16 in this video, should we hold our breath? unless it's supported by teradici this won't see wide spread adoption in any kind of professional studio setting.. I'd love to test this tablet, but Wacom market dominance in kernal level driver support, esp for Linux. It's a shame because this looks great
@VocalMike
@VocalMike Месяц назад
Teradici support is being developed. Alpha driver about to be tested but I’m sure there will be some initial bugs. Note too, in Linux, kernel driver has very limited functionality unless the community develop it. With Xencelabs the driver is completely developed and has mostly the same functionality as the Windows and Mac drivers.

Looks good but that price... What in the world is this company thinking? Who is this product for? No way professionals are willing to pay $1250 for a 16 inch tablet. Not many of us need portability. And the majority that do need portability dont need it all the time, and are willing to use a much cheaper device to get the job done. That's on top of the fact that 16 inches isnt really portable. You can get this or a brand new m4 i pad pro 13 inch. Or for a little bit less, a huion kamvas pro 24. 😐
@bonkfarid2611
@bonkfarid2611 Месяц назад
I’m always surprised to read comments like this. Professionals make money from drawing and there are things like tax deduct and write-off. Sure there are hobbyist, part timers and underpaid manga artist who cannot afford this. But this doesn't mean there is no market for a product like this. Luckily there are also many artists, designers and architects who make a decent living using drawing displays at various companies or free lance. For them, 1250 is not that big of an investment for an essential tool or compared to other offerings like the Cintiq pro 16 pro. Don't forget this includes the 100 euro quick keys and other accessories. The essential bundle is 1000. In my network, digital drawing at various locations (home, office, client) is a growing need and this is by far the lightest solution. It fits in any slightly larger backpacks alongside a laptop and the fact that it feeds from a laptop is a big weight saver. And if you draw professionally you might agree 16” is the bare minimum to comfortably work long hours, and the higher resolution and contrast ratio also help to reduce strain. Sure I'd wish if things were lighter, but until a 16” iPad arrives a pen display is the only portable solution.
@R0undbrush
@R0undbrush Месяц назад
@@bonkfarid2611 The issue of 16 inches being the minimum has a lot more to do with software than it does with the tablet itself. If you haven't tried a 13inch ipad you probably should. Also it sounds you are part of an exceptionally small minority of people that this product is for. The other 99% of people don't need any portability and would prefer a company like xencelabs actually put there effort into created a dedicated device.

Why can't anybody get their pen down to 1g of IAF like Wacom?
@VocalMike
@VocalMike Месяц назад
Very few people have the muscle control to hold the pen at 1 g. I would guess the majority of artists are around 10 to 20 g at the light end. For a heavy-handed artist, much more than that.
@lesnacke
@lesnacke Месяц назад
@@VocalMike I'm not sure where you get that from... plenty of artists use pens and pencils for getting hair thin lines, hatching, light shading so they would develop that control easily. Especially light shading with pencil using circular side motions. Anyone who has practiced a value scale in graphite has this control, they're just making it less lifelike for professional artists (and 3g is on the upper end of bad, huion has 2g). People who are heavy handed usually death grip the pen which shouldn't be encouraged anyway, as well as faster wear on your pen tip and tablet surface. Not a good reason to not improve the pen IAF, if someone feels its too light they can turn up the sensitivity, but no matter how low you turn it down on a bad pen it won't make a line when it should like a real tool and feels much less natural. People who do stippling art I'd definitely recommend against anything with 3g IAF like xp pen.
@VocalMike
@VocalMike Месяц назад
@@lesnacke I agree that the capability for lighter is always better so you have the choice but that most artists would struggle to maintain a consistent 1g pressure. A 3-button pen is around 17g and you'd have to use muscle control to continually lift 16g to get a 1g on the surface. It's quite easy to measure one's ability by getting a kitchen or postal scale that measures in grams. When I try to draw at the lightest, I cannot maintain 1g consistently. When trying for 1g, I vary between 1 and 8g with most of the time around 5g. If I had to do that for any length of time it would be very tiring. Admittedly there will be some much more talented individuals than me who are more consistent but that is my experience. Remember too that the purpose of a pressure curve, which can be adjusted is to make it more comfortable to get extremely thin lines with less effort. If your natural sweet spot for drawing is say, 8g, you can adjust the pressure curve so that 8g will produce a very fine line indeed, without as much tension on your muscles.
