Once you said the "20% incoming healing", I screamed to the heavens. I have been saying that to my friends for years. The life leech is a nice touch too.

@@TheTegas And to think that it's been this way since Dark Knight was first released back in Heavensward. Yoshi P has already came out and said that he doesn't like how Living Dead functions, and this was a few years ago....and it's STILL the same. What makes this situation even *worse* is the fact that both Gunbreaker and Warrior now have some pretty powerful heals so that they can now still survive while in critical condition after their invuln wears off. Dark Knight gets nothing. Nada. Just a tiny bit more damage, but every other tank is already getting that too.

@@TheTegas I mean warrior and gunbreaker can also get killed by any autos after their invuln ends if they don't get healed, it's the fact rn that drk needs to be at 100% that's bad, if it was more healing increased or just 50% of max hp requirement, that would change a lot already

Im currently leveling Dark Knight, and now it makes sense to me why both Fray and Sidurgu are so pissed all the time, its because off all their clunky abilities and mana costs. 😅

Its funny how vast majority of Xeno's suggestions to improve DRK actions actually happened in later patches. Blood Weapon got stacks and duration increase while LD did gain a life leech effect and remain duration buff haha

It didn't even receive anything but a salted earth change thats been asked since 4.0 and essentially a bigger Flood. War's got sustain 2 expansions earlier again and mini tbn on a 25 sec cd,Gnb got excog and more damage,and EW pld essentially got equal sustain to 4.3 War.

Yeah the DRK changes were absurdly underwhelming. It was by far not just the least changed tank, but thr least changed job in the whole game. Scholar didn't get a lot of new stuff, but that job has more than 30 skills to use and they all do something different. DRK is just a tank with a single 1-2-3 combo and a bunch of oGCDs that do literally the same thing

There's no way all of this is getting redone for a pre-savage hotfix, or even 6.1. Pray for total DRK rework in 7.0. Time for two years of hardcore lala sacrifice

I can see some of the problemas being adressed in 6.1 Like, stacks for blood weapon and some skills funcionality being changed, and a full rework by 7.0

You say this but they've consistently done full reworks of jobs through SB and ShB without batting an eye, so we can probably expect SCH and DRK reworks of some capacity around 6.0X or at 6.1.

@@Dotoku14 Its got more double weaving than Gnb with less damage,the worst leveling kit in the entire game,and and now has such a ridiculous opener than its required to have better ping than Mch and Nin in order to just do it in general.Hell every other tank is now at the point where there sustain and raw durability make Tbn worthless(with war getting a mini Tbn on top of sustain as well). Its absolutely not fine under any circumstance.

I also really REALLY like the idea that Xenos had of combining Abyssal Drain, Salted Earth AND Salt and Darkness into a single skill that works just like Astrologian's Earthly Star. It already works fine on Astro, so it would be pretty good on Dark Knight. Much better than pressing 3 ogcd buttons that barely do any damage just because

Abyssal drain restore hp, salted earth and abyssal drain actually two different type when they first introduced. One is a weapon skill, another is an ability. It’s sounded nice but I don’t think they would work together in a way. The main issue of DRK is still living dead and the lack of unique gameplay style or easy to use. Ppl praise dark art and TBN to in truth, those abilities are created to counter the lack of healing DRK has and how to mitigate damage.

Funnily enough, Dark Knight already had something like this. It was called “Tar Pit,” and it was PvP only. It was an AOE centered on the Dark Knight that would deal 300 potency damage to everyone in it and heal for 600 potency of every target hit. I believe it was on a 120 second cool down. But apparently this was something that just could not be balanced for either PvP or PvE and was removed. And then all of Dark Knight’s other healing options were removed. SE fucking hates Dark Knight.

How did Darkside even go unchanged for another expansion? What is the purpose of a 10% damage buff on a timer that literally never runs out? Why does it even need its own gauge? It's literally just Jinpu.

Exactly, it's not much of a core mechanic as outside of literal death its pretty much impossible for it to fall off. The shadowbringers drk changes were so brainless its pitiful, there us no synergy or gameplay loop at all. It's literally a 2.0 job, in fact maybe a little worse.

@@savonmcleod7265 Not even death makes it fall off for a relevant amount of time, as soon as you have 3k mana it'll be up again, which worst case is 18 seconds, which is just above 8 gcds of your normal rotation. 18s guarantees 3 Syphon Strikes (3x 600), and 6 server ticks (6 x 200) for 3k total, enough for Edge of Shadow. That is 2800 potency, out of which 840 is lost to death debuff within this period, and 178.2 potency lost to Darkside not being up. That's less than two DRK auto attacks worth of potency lost to darkside being a thing when you die.

They put a timer on the job gauge for the buff that refreshes pretty much automatically, meanwhile WAR who has to make the manual decision to refresh Storm's Eye has it lost in the sea of party buffs including regens, shields and their own defensive cds

@@DarkonciS eye is also practically a non-mechanic now when it's 60s and nascent gives 15s of it. It pretty much impossible to drop it now if you played WAR before the change, I find myself overcapping after a few minutes instead when zoning out.

SAME I literally keep saying that! Dark arts is what pulled me to become a drk main, it was the core skill that made drk at the time of HW one of the biggest DPS/tank job. But a lot of people who refused to learn drk rotations with dark arts they complained then changed it to what it is now, a passive. That along with sole survivor..

I loved Dark Arts, it made the class so much funner and less stale too. But of course, this game attracts a lazy casual playerbase that won't learn their main to the fullest and encourages the Devs to either simplify the class and/or nerf the class. And look what we got with Drk. And now they're talking about changing dragoon and Astrologian. Isnt dragoon simple enough in EW?? Thanks to ppl who won't learn Ast's cards they're most likely going to simplify the class once again and who knows, maybe it won't be my favorite healer class anymore. Cuz these changes definitely stopped me from maining Drk and leaving it to play the other tanks!

Tbh the only thing that has bugged me ever since shadowbringes came out was that living shadows timer is already ticking down while fray is still in his summon animation. So you basically lose 3-4 seconds of your timer while he can't do anything

I really hope we Dark Knights won't have to wait until the next expansion after Endwalker to see the changes that bring DRK back onto the same level as the other three tanks. DRK is still cool, still fun but it doesn't bring anything other than the color purple to the table now.

Bloody Hells... His changes for the Living dead were literally my proposed changes on FF14 forum from 4 years ago! And I was downvoted in Oblivion for it!!! Edit: if I remember correctly, the proposal I had is to after you hit the grave state, you will become immune to all CC, you are unable to be healed by other party members and get the gauge over your head to fill. The gauge would be filled with your attacks. After the time of 10 sec. expires - you will get the HP based on the gauge total % filled. It can be either the 20-25% of life steal or just the DPS check.

It makes even *less* sense once you've realized that basically all defensive CD's are being converted into general mitigation now. Dark Mind was great 6 years ago, back when we still had to work with stuff like Foresight. Now? It's become too niche.

@@phuckerpower They're not. Dragoon used to have a skill called feint back in 2.0 that slowed targets hit by it and that one actually was on the global. But it was reworked a few years back and it's actually a lot better than what it was. It's an off global utility skill now and it's far from worthless.

I firmly agree with your point about living shadow performing shadowbringer. Yoshida made it a point to state that living shadow would for sure performe shadowbringer once you hit max level. I was just like.... "bro you didn't need to tell us this. This is just basic fucking common sense. It's a fucking given. I don't need a trait dedicated to that. Just program it and don't bother mentioning it." They're effectively selling basic stuff as "new" shiny toys. It's actually awful.

I agree that the traits are not exciting or feel ''new''. But it's kind of how the traits always have worked. It's just the way they do things for every class in the game. Alot of classes did not change all that much for Endwalker. Most of them just got one or two new ablies while losing/changing some older stuff. The only class that feels new is Summoner and maybe monk? xD

The best way to fix DRK is to not touch it period. Don't level it up, don't even look in DRKs direction come EW. Maybe if they see how low its numbers that they will do something.

Dark Knight was my class through Stormblood and Shadowbringers. But in Endwalker, when I seen what they get from 81-90, all I could do was think to myself, "Look how they massacred my boy."

What's funny is that Reaper's arcane Crest is literally what TBN should be. It pops and gives an aoe heal/regen or whatever the fuck to the party. Like I'm seriously so fucking disappointed in seeing so many cool ideas just NOT be put on DRK. Hey Xeno, did you know that dark missionary in PvP boosts healing recieved? WHY TF IS THAT NOT IN PVE. I know the whole madge meme, but I'm genuinely upset at this job. It's fuckin ridiculous.

PvP is the true Dark Knight experience where attacks give HP and MP and Quietus nets you MP return on all targets and not just one. PvE DRK is so ass backwards.

@@XenosysVex Seriously, check out certain PvP abilities across jobs. Some of the effects of certain abilities are pretty interesting and makes you wonder why it's not apart of the core game. For example, using intervention while using rampart increases intervention's mitigation for the party member. Literally all the class unique gimmicks and class individuality could exist, if they just lifted PvP exclusive effects into PvE.

Why does salt & darkness have a recast time? You're not getting another one until salted earth comes off cooldown, unless they're secretly adding a charge last minute.

Should have reworked Dark Mind to function as the new ‘Oblation’ It’s already a 60s defensive, just needed to change the effect and add the charge. It being accessible at an earlier lvl than 82 would’ve been a huge bonus. …..but no

Or combine them and give it the treatment HoC etc. received, meaning after 5s you get additional 10% mitigation on everything. DRK is the only tank not receiving this change probably because they think managing TBN is 'hard enough'

@@DarkKerialstraz …the TBN change should have been Dark Arts proc if the Drk is touched with the shield up (no longer need to be fully absorbed…just touched like Arm’s Length) And then a Flood/Edge under the effect of Dark Arts now also giving a potent heal or regen along with still having a free mp cost Just my two cents. But SE didn’t even listen to the official forums…so I doubt they even care about the suggestions here in a random RU-vid comment section.

I'd rather have oblation give a shield if you use TBN, not a big one, but like 10% of the DRKs max HP. Means you can use it on yourself for a massive 35% shield and 10% mitigation, or spread it around for more people to enjoy. As it stands, the kit doesn't really work together with itself very well.

@@DarkKerialstraz I don't really mind oGCD bloat when it comes to mitigation, Shadowbringer is a bigger offender imo, as it's on 120s alignment in practice and will eat 2 slots. But as is, using Missionary, Reprisal, Rampart, Dark Mind, TBN and your 60s burst under TA is perfectly doable for the splashes TEA as is, with slots to spare for a shadowbringer and an Oblation or two before the busters come at 1:26.

I'd personally make the following changes: - Make Stalwart Soul available at lower levels (40-50). - Make Dark Missionary available before level 70. - Turn all spell GCDs into weaponskills to scale with skill speed, this should've been done ages ago... - Combine Abyssal Drain and Salted Earth, give it a better cure potency and use Salt and Darkness automatically if it hasn't been used by the time Salted Earth ends. - Turn Blood Weapon into stacks just like Delirium (5 instead of 3, since the cooldown didn't get changed) and give it a small HP drain effect along with its current MP recovery effect. This coupled with a buff on Abyssal Drain's cure potency will give DRK more self-sustain. - Give the same HP drain effect but with a higher value to Walking Dead to make it easier to remove the effect. - Keep TBN as it is, but halve the MP cost, rewarding you with a 1500 MP cost Edge/Flood of Shadow for popping the shield, or punishing you less for popping it. If the effect is still underwhelming compared to other tanks' skills, adding a HoT effect once you pop the shield could help. - Change Dark Mind to 10% mitigation instead of 20% magic mitigation. - Rework Oblation entirely to be a slightly worse version of Heart of Conundrum/Holy Sheltron/Bloodwhetting, since you can still apply TBN to yourself. - Remove Enhanced Unmend, wtf is that even. About Living Shadow, both traits should at the very least be together. The skill itself is not very intuitive, currently the tooltip doesn't even mention the damage done by your shadow (it's being added in 6.0). And how the hell am I supposed to know how much of a potency increase the level 90 trait is if I don't even know when my shadow is supposed to cast Flood of Shadow?

It is, 100%, not fun to press buttons as Dark Knight. It is, 100%, not fun, to be a Dark Knight, with a big ass sword, and dark powers, and your "ultimate" ability is to Shadow Clone Jutsu a DoT effect that just repeats the same animations you've seen over and over again.

i miss old Dark Arts when Abyssal Drain was an ranged aggro GCD aoe that could do heal on hit with it. Pre-5.x DRK using it on a mob just seeing screen flooded with green numbers was God like. Goddamn I miss dark arts buffed Dark Passenger too. Your mix of Abyssal Drain & Salted Earth sounds excellent.

Not only is it a diet IR,it offers less than it too.The Mp gained is horrific,it relies on Direct Crits to be useful,and actually does less damage than IR overall. Its a sad joke.

@@justaman4887 So thinking out loud, maybe have it so it's like a res proc? Like instead of healer having to raise you, it let's you just rise, so while it will have a cooldown. You can have some control over it.

Dark Knight arguably got me into FFXIV, it was the Shadowbringers cinematic that finally made me want to play the game. DRK is so fucking bizarre to me, it debuted in HW but is pretty much the big focus of the Shadowbringers cinematic, it made me think it was gonna be the equivalent to a WoW hero class. But it just feels so damn underwhelming to play and the fact that it's gonna get worse blows my mind.

Dark arts is a good concept, but was poorly implmeneted. Main issue being that after Heavensward it only increased damage on weapon skills and didn't provded any actual addiitional effects. The issue during Heavensward is that the additional effect lead to clashing design philosphy's. Today would have been really nice to have Old Dark arts to make the blackest night extend the shield to 25% and have the normal Blackest night start at 15% and no MP cost. Living dead does need a rework. 100% agree. Oblination needs to be re-worked and is currently taking up an ability slot that could have had something else. As for them not having any ideas of what to do with Dark Knight? They never did. The normal concept of a DRK clashes with their ideaology and the siphoning portion was given off to Warrior.

They really need to hire dedicated devs for each class because EVERYONE can see how shitty Living Dead is, and just how shitty TBN is compared to the other tanks mitigation abilities. It blows my mind how they had 6 YEARS to address how awful Living Dead is, and I’m convinced they just want to cut corners with the Dark Knight instead of putting in the effort to make it stack up to the other tanks. There’s just no excuses anymore.

The problem is that dark knight doesn't have any real gameplay mechanics, so they just add in more fluff that just does extra damage or flat mitigation to hide the fact. Honestly I just wish they'd make dark knight a caster spell blade like Paladin. Use Blood Weapon as a their physic damage inner release and Delirium magic damage burst so they can do a spell burst and weapon burst window. Give them stances back with Dark Side being MP siphon (during physical damage phases) and Dark Arts for HP siphon (during caster phases and Walking Dead). Allow the Dark Knight to press the living dead button again to manually trigger walking Dead and give it the healing increase buff you mentioned. Remove the nasty CD off Abyssal Drain and make it a spell again and give the dark knight a proper single target drain to compliment it. If they're not going to give Living Shadow any gameplay mechanics, the just remove the fucking skill because it's just a high potency DoT that yields zero engagement. This expansion was just solid proof that the team designing DRK do not know what they're doing. Just let the Paladin design team have DRK for just one expansion please, just to establish a working gameplay concept with him.

I honestly really agree with a lot of this stuff. One thing I think I'd change based off your idea for TBN, is that if they DON'T give it a healing capability like the other TBN alternatives (ESPECIALLY Sheltron at 5sec), put it at a 20sec cooldown, that way it's still faster than Bloodwhetting and Heart of Corundum, but slower than Sheltron, with no MP Cost. If they do give it healing though, 25sec would definitely be fine. Beyond that, something I'm a little surprised I never see people mention is that Blood Weapon was in FFXI, and it gave health to the DRK when they attacked enemies. I feel like, if they were to add back to Blood Weapon on top of the MP gains per hit, and just put the potency at 150 or 200 or something, it'd be a really nice QoL to DRK's self-sustain, especially for general play.

The most hilarious thing about TBN is that in PVP, it's actually free and on a 15 second cooldown. Only know this because I've been doing daily frontline roulette on drk to level it and gain some pvp currency.

When you mentioned life leeching my immediate thought was to make that the Living Shadow trait. "All shadow attacks attach leech life back to the player" or even a disengage ability similar to MCH, where using it would either shield you or restore you. Great videos man. I always thought that dark knight should be more about life-steal mechanics and your idea for living dead is really awesome and should reach the devs actually also why not have cure potency for salted earth for every dot potency, and hell why not have if an enemy dies inside salted earth it would give a heal for the entire party they just need something to make this more viable

I saw this on the FFXIV Forums and it seemed like a really good idea for Dark Knight. I don't see why everyone is overthinking Dark Knight Fixes its very simple. 1.) Remove the Mana Cost from TBN and make it take 20 seconds off each Dark Side for each use. This would make Dark Side actually a resource that you have to monitor/be aware of or you lose DPS/Shields and it doesnt directly interfere with your Offensive Resource 2.) Make Unleash Combo abilities actual Weapon Skills and not spells so they are affected by Skill Speed, as they are currently hard locked at 2.5 speed 3.)Make Blood Gauge Abilities Heal you on use via leech in similar fashion to Paladin Magic Combo. 4.) Make Blood Gauge Abilities reduce the cooldown of Shadowbringer so you can actually use 2 in the same burst window outside your initial opener. 5.) Make Oblation provide a lifesteal effect similar to bloodbath for the duration. And just like that. Dark Knight is completely fixed

If they removed Dark Mind and replaced it with Oblation, 2 charges included, that would be great. Living Shadows traits appear to be a mixture of a system fix. Because if it got Shadowbringer as an eighth attack, they would have to adjust the timer on Living Shadow to account for that attack. And if they want to keep Dark Arts and Dark Side in the game (which I'm not opposed to), I wish they would make them as traits or procs that played a more prominent role in DRK's gameplay/rotation. Salt and Darkness on its own is cool. Maybe it should've been the result of a unique interaction with using Stalwart Soul or Souleater inside that AoE ground patch like Ninja is getting with Hakke Mujinsatsu and Doton.

I feel like there's two changes they could make immediately to improve some of what we see here and keep some of their ideas intact. 1. Dark Mind should provide a 10% physical mitigation on top of the 20% magical. It keeps the identity of it being primarily used for magic damage while allowing it to also be used on physical damage fights. They're already doing this with Feint/Addle. 2. Enhanced Unmend should give you a free Dark Arts, or just a separate buff that does the same thing. I'm not good enough to process the math on this one, but my main concern is that it would make Unmend so good that your rotation would literally just be Unmend > Edge over and over. This one might require potency adjustments to balance it. None of this is meant to disagree with anything Xeno has said. I pretty much agree across the board with his suggestions. This is more so looking at a compromise to keep what SE has already in place but make it more useful.

I never played any other version of DRK from past expansions, but leveling a War recently to 80 just makes me realize DRK is just a WAR with a aesthetic I give a fuck about and that's a bummer because prior I went from PLD > DRK > GNB before trying WAR, I was having so much fun that everything plays unique while still doing the same thing, PLD feels nothing like DRK, DRK has nothing GNB has and they all felt great to go back and forth from...then I leveled a WAR...and it felt like DRK, infact it made DRK feel like a diet version of WAR. Heres hoping though that DRK gets the SMN treatment because honestly, DRK doesn't even feel like Final Fantasy Dark Knight either, there no gamble with sacrificing HP for other benefits like the past games and like I said, I haven't played HW or SB DRK so i wouldnt know if they had that aspect or not. Overall, I still like playing DRK but it feels like they really need to get its identity back and take a page from EW SMN by looking at its roots from the Dark Knights of the FF series past.

Before 5.x DRK, it was much better. Dark Arts was a MP cost buff that would augment a variety of actions enhancing them consuming Dark Arts itself. Dark Arts could increase the aggro of your 3rd hit for aggro rotation, increase the magic reduction of Dark Mind, make Abyssal Drain be an on hit heal (this was back when it was an aggro GCD attack and not a shitty oGCD CD it is now), enhance Dark Passenger which was a line aoe aggro attack that also applied Blind so enemies attacks could "miss" you. Also Salted Earth back then increased your job gauge every tick instead of being a basic ass filler aoe CD now. Back then most actions costed MP so you had to manage which ones to use within that situation carefully in addition to Darkside being their dps stance which always increases your damage but slowly drained your MP too and no outside buffs could restore it either, only your own actions could heal your MP.

Nailed it again. Pretty much hard agree on every point. Same sore spots as me more or less. Dark Mind going unused half the time, TBN and LD massively overvalued and in dire need of rework, BW clunk city while Delirium gets an unexpected QoL update, Abyssal and CnS wasting hotbar space because uwu nostalgia, 15ogcds worth of fluff in opener, filler still more plain than WAR's, job gauge is worthless and you cant even hide it properly, shadow is just fancy Sonic Break while Scourge is still in the grave. Honestly though if they just fix BW I'll probably still be maining this neglected class forever. You can't be a DRK main and not be a cope-aholic and a glutton for suffering.

What's the most hype thing for me when it comes to the changes coming for Dark Knight? Honestly? Nothing. Living Dead is still the same poorly designed "invuln" that it's always been, while the other tanks have had buffs to theirs or gained tools to manage the drawbacks of having to use their invuln. Blood Weapon is still the same as it was in the previous expansion and I shouldn't have to explain why that's a bad thing. Abyssal Drain was honestly better off being left as it was before it was changed if the heal potency and damage are both going to remain as low as they are. TBN being tied to your damage was an interesting idea to me at first, but I only ever found the most use of it during expert roulette. And its niche as a magic tank is now completely irrelevant due to the fact that all three of the other tanks now have general damage mitigations on basically every defensive CD. I love Dark Knight....but there's absolutely no question that it's lagging behind the other 3 even more now than it did in Shadowbringers unless some last minute changes are coming.

I *want* Dark Knight to be my favorite tank, but the design of it is so lazy. They took out everything unique about it, and all they have left is either weaksauce versions of other job's stuff, or boring stuff with no interaction. Living Shadow might as well just be Scourge, except with a pointless delay on execution, and costing 50 gauge. Living Dead is just awful. I can live with it being the weakest, something has to be. The far worse sin of the job is that it's boring.

@@CyrusKazan Exactly the same for me (also the Chosen in warhammer online which was a really good contender for this archetype, loved to play it, even in return of reckoning), so having a tank that went from having a good gameplay with some flaws (whenever it was heavensward and stormblood) to a "viable" class with it's only good points being it's shiny visuals with absolutely no interaction/synergy with their spells is a huge downgrade for me >< (even more awful when you realize that the death knight from the trainwreck that is now WoW has more kit interaction and class identity than the dark knight -_-)

The Blackest Night is not getting the mana cost taken away, and it is very strong as it is. It's a 8s CD _(considering uptime, 7s up, 8s down)._ You propose they increase the CD and make it more boring, ignoring that they've given Oblation as the counterpart to Intervention / Nascent Flash on top of TBN. No. What they should do is keep the mana cost, keep the CD, and just make it so whenever the buff expires, however it is _(broken, fades off due to time; perhaps make it so this only happens whilst in combat to avoid BS)_ it gives back a charge for a free hit; and then maybe give that hit an special attribute, like reducing the CD of Shadowbringer charges _(could add all of this as a trait instead of the unmend / plunge meme lol)._ No more gambling dps outside of your control, still fun and available to use at any time, and that's about it. Bloodwhetting is still OP tho. The PLD one is just a mitigation with a regen _(kinda eeh~)_ that probably isn't for 35%, but rather 20% + (15% of 80%), and the GNB one isn't worrysome because GNB has no instantaneous recovery outside of that whatsoever.

100 percent they should either do what xeno said with combining it with Abysal drain, or make it some kind of dread aura. As in you have a DoT aura around your player character that acts as a mobile aoe DoT and increases evasion or something.

I've been considering dropping DRK for awhile. It's what got me into tanking while playing FFXIV, and I love tanking but I think DRK is underwhelming. It could be a grass is greener feeling for me, but I might play another tank.

each tank has their own pros and cons. in my opinion DRK has THE BEST multitarget dps. its really good both as OT or MT since TBN can be casted on others too. the changes they made will certainly make DRK be on the same level as the other tanks, but its just kinda dissappointing that we dont get something as hype as 3 additional confiteors, each with different animation.

DRK is not on par with the other tank,s, their invulns are better, their QoL changes are better, their new skills are better. You have to be on that Copium man. I have played dark since release and HW and SB Dark was better than what we have now, DA abyssal Drain was amazing, Dark Passenger into your parry CD made you untouchable for 7-8 seconds, Sure it still had problems but it also had identity back then and using it right felt rewarding. DRK atm is not in a good place and needs a rework, you either didn't watch the break down of its skills or just coose to ignore it.

For living dead, if it could be argued before, now its undeniably the worst invu in the game. Its not only shit for the player, but for the healers as well. That shit needs to change. Blood weapon abyssal drain and salted earth are all abilities we wanted to get fixed, but no, they are untouched. Some abilities that are still spells are fcking annoying. So i agree with most of the video. But no dude. DRK is the strongest when it comes to multitarget dps. It doesnt matter if you direct crit your first 7 attacks, after that you go back to the shitty cone gcd ability. It was the same thing during ShB, that war did an insane burst here and there, and the damage fell off so much that it was the last in damage through most of the expansion if not all. DRK has a constant high damage with ogcds, and now he gets even more with EW. DRK is going to be ok. But these are not the changes we wanted.

I would advise every DRK to do the same to force FFXIV Devs to make the changes. I would take HW DRK or SB DRK over this anyday. As for the DMG WAR does on AoE. I have sat and parsed that and it does 100% out pace DRK in everyway. Those 7 crits do more DMG in the short time a large pull would last and it is up every large pull. not to mention you can look at parses and see DRK is the lowest tank damage period in any content that matters. which is also a problem.

Dark knight is in such a bad place especially for its identity... seriously seeing people say living dead and tbn are its identity... two skills that as a healer makes me question to even heal or help my drk MT. As a healer your instinct is to heal incoming damage or help with a quick shield... but me helping my tank is actually a bad thing if they are drk, they want tbn to pop, living dead is useless if they pop it and I can heal them just fine... like fuck man... dark knights needs a fucking rework by someone who fucking cares

At the rate SE is going with drk they are going to succeed in makinh many but only the most stalwart of drk defenders swap to war or gun. I miss drk in hw and storm blood, if they took those versions of drk and reworked those core mechanics and completely changed living dead I would look at playing it again. Right now i am keeping it at 80 and playing war and gun on tank roles for the rest of the time I play ffxiv until I see some sort of rework on drk.

I rly like the dark knight class fantasy but it's by far the most underwhelming tank to play right now. They just got rid of everything that made Drk special since it got released and now it's just a shittier version of warrior.

Started playing DRK recently after a 1500 hours playing as a DPS and a Healer. It's among the jobs that aesthetically resonate with me the most (I main RPR and BLM), so I don't plan on playing the other tanks, but knowing all this and reading through my toolkit is just really underwhelming. I feel like I'm playing a watered down DPS with extra defense, not a tank.

Another thing i thought of about Living Dead. What if when they pop it, & your hp goes to 0, you get a secondary health bar, when this is healed to full you will survive Living Dead + you get X amount of hp. I was thinking up to full hp, but maybe a bit to OP but 50% of hp maybe? So essentially, you pop Living Dead, your hp reaches 0, you get a new health bar (which doesn't get affected by dmg taken), healers heals it to full hp, when Living dead is over, you get back to 50% hp. Thoughts? I don't play Drk myself, i main Warrior, but was just an idea that popped into my head. So they still need to heal the Drk to full, but the effect is only 50% of it. And if that 50% is perhaps to strong, it can be changed to 25% or something. Atleast then you won't need to add any healing increases or leech as Xeno suggests. Personally i think the Drk one is garbage by itself.

I've seen people say this, and the devs claim it. And I believe it. I don't believe any of them play, or properly main DRK, MNK, or SCH.

all decent points, and since others are telling about their changes to the class I guess I'll add mine too (buckle up it's a long one): 1. make spells scale with skill speed - I would agree with this, but they really seem to be moving away from skill speed for tanks anyways. All they would have to do is make blood weapon 3 charges with 30 sec cooldowns and that would be good enough (40 seconds maybe for balance but 30 seems fine for me) 2. trash endwalker traits - 84: I would say there is gonna be at least one fight in everyone's experience that this will give them a charge a few seconds and some good extra uptime. Not flashy but whatever. 88: potency upgrade traits exist in near every class, or they just get a new ability with higher potency as a substitute. Really can't complain imo. 90: does feel lackluster, maybe if it did Shadowbringer with you as an extra attack? ( getting an extra hit or even two if you save charges for Fray) 3. Dark Mind and Living Dead - Dark Mind is fine and I really don't get the complaints. It's a niche cooldown just like Camoflage and Cover. (yes I feel camo is niche because it does next to nothing for busters and is geared to autos/dungeon packs) Living Dead definitely is the weakest of the invulns, but just like how people over-hyped TBN, I feel like people complain too much about Living Dead. IF it was really such a burden to use, it would get changed. Warriors and gunbreakers both need to be healed during/after their invulns, so what really is the difference? 4. TBN being overhyped - Absolutely do people JO to this, but realistically the other tank's getting upgrades were to bring them in line with TBN as singular cooldowns. If you have 180k hp, TBN is a 45k shield. Against a buster that does 150k dmg, it is basically a 30% DR in shields. Plus with the cost, staying above 3k for it is just as much skill as being under 10k (next to none), as well as being refunded if it pops (though I think it would be sick if at 90 we could use Dark Arts as an extra charge of Shadowbringer) 5. Abyssal Drain, Salted Earth, and Salt and Darkness - Salted Earth becomes a circle of scorn/bow shock aoe dot. Transforms into Abyssal Drain and deals 300 potency with half that for healing on all affected enemies. Salt and Darkness becomes a trait that increases Abyssal Drain Potency to 400 and all enemies afflicted by Salted Earth DoT deal 10% less damage to the Dark Knight. Have it replace Enhanced Unmend if it really is useless. Concise, meaningful butttons and each brings further utility without breaking the previous ones. 6. Dark Knight still in Shadowbringers - DK always felt fine, at least to me. I never had mechanics in content and just thought "Oh we are screwed, I came in here on my Dark Knight". Some QoL is all it needed out of an expansion, Oblation and Shadowbringer is just fine. If it really is an issue of just so many oGCDs for the classes own good, make Shadowbringer and upgrade from Carve and Spit. But it really is a tank designed to use oGCDs and double weave. Those are my thoughts. Love how Dark Knight plays but definitely not on copium about it enjoying some QoL soon. I am by no means a hardcore player so I wouldn't begin to understand if these issues are more geared for Ultimate situations and other top tier play. If I am outright wrong, please let me know.

All pretty solid points, completely agree that if Living Dead really was such an issue it would have been fixed by now. Any and all QoL on DRK is welcomed with open arms. I am super happy to be getting away from stacking skill speed on tanks to be able to fit X number of GCDs in my burst window.

My idea of a fix for TBN is either remove the mana cost and make it 25s, and any portion of the shield that isn't used, heals you for the remaining amount. It can be done based on the new abilities on healers. My 2nd option is if they REALLY want to keep the mana cost; either give us 2 stacks of Dark Arts so it's a net gain for using it, or 1 stack of Dark Arts and reduce the cooldown of Shadowbringer by 30s. Oh; and my idea for Dark Mind fix is to make it INCREASE damage taken by 10% but giving lifesteal (or healing per weaponskill). This would make it help both Living Dead AND in popping TBN. Love the ideas for Living Dead. I thought of the buffed incoming healing but the lifeleech is a brilliant idea as well (or War treatment of cure per weaponskill/spell)

for the abbysal drain + salt earth combination idea i suggest that the player simply gets to press abbysal drain again to make salted earth explode early or just explodes on expiration.

all tbn does right now is holding 3000 mp hostage. i agree with removing the mp cost and maybe the procc but why not have the procc if you use it right.

Abyssal Drain sucks as a sustain resource, they REALLY could merge Abyss and Salted Earth into a DoT aoe which could heal per tick, with low potency ofc.....Or better yet, fuse Abyssal and Salted into a "aura-type" skill, which gives you a offensive aura that deals DoT and heals you or give you some leech effects per weapon skill/spell idk

What i would change: I think Oblation should just replace Dark mind and get stronger at Lv. 82 like 25% Saltet Earth should be deleted Blood Weapon should be 5 Stacks generating MP and upgrades to Delirium with 5 Stacks MP generation and free actions at 60 secs Dark Side should be a Trait. Carve and Split & Abysal Drain should be shared CDs and charge actions by 30 Sec Recast. Edge & Flood of Shadows should be instead of giving Dark Side it should reduce the CD of Carve and Split & Abysal Drain by using. TBN should not cost any Mana and you get damage for remaining shield when its doesnt break. Living Dead: Walking dead always last 10 secs reduces your Max HP by 50% and makes your invulnable if triggered

Life leech is exactly how to fix Living Dead imo! Maybe even make them immune to healing and damage for the duration. That way it becomes a mini-game where the Dark Knight has to earn their own healing back before time runs out. But maybe the button changes to "Withering Dead", which makes you surrender your lifesteal but become able to be healed again by healers.

As someone who was hoping for major changes (if not a total rework) for Dark Knight, i am disappointed. I have to agree though that most of these changes we're recieving are just extremely underwhelming, full of fluff and full of Quality of Life improvements rather than fixing all the flaws the job currently has and that people have been complaining about since ShadowBringers released (or even before that). The job's probably still gonna be good and viable, but the charm and identity it had has been butchered into a chimera, so i think i'll drop the job and just play Warrior or Gunbreaker instead. I'm free to discuss about Dark Knight though, people's preferences and opinions are always gonna be present

All these changes to drk just makes me upset because every other tank got massive buffs and drk just gets shafted The real slap in the face was how lack luster oblation is. 10% mitigation on two charges well ok you can use it on other party members but thats unfortunately too clunky so you have to macro it. I would change it to 15% but make it function like how sages shields work. It will mitigate the next 5 attacks for 15% but each attack gave you blood and mp back like blood price did back in the day. Make the effect last 30 seconds or when you get damaged 5 times and the effect ends, then it would imo a worthwhile lvl 82 ability. Unless we get like a massive rework, I might be dropping drk for gnb (going from one scuffed tank to another. I love tanking I swear)

Borrowed Vessel - 360sec CD Submit to Fray's will, allowing him to enter the physical realm. Replace HP with Fray's Life Force. You cannot receive healing. Restore Life Force equal to all damage dealt. Damage: +15% If Fray's Life Force reaches zero or the duration expires, end the effect of Borrowed Vessel and return to previous HP state. Duration: 15 seconds. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Have a super edgy shadow Fray form when active.
