Xenonauts 2 is the spiritual successor to the original XCOM, forsaking having a single base and "2 move gameplay" for pools of AP and multiple bases. I have two serious questions for this "early access" title: does it do anything new/fresh to make it interesting - and is it actually balanced and fun to play.
It's time to find out.
It keeps me motivated to see your comments and I will also do my best to reply to all of them.

Ah, Xenonauts 2, I had finished it when it was much deeper in early access, back then the game was plagued with horrible memory leaks, I'm talking something like 64 gigs of ram being unable to keep the game running stable after a couple of hours which prompted frequent restarts, I would assume they had this issue fixed now.

I usually turn the guy with the worst stats into a light armor grenadier. Just have them in the safest positions and shoot grenades over walls. No particular stat requirements. A task fit for the most useless of soldiers.

The only issue with this (and it's a good idea and works), is that M40 grenades in this game do not have their real-life safety fuses. So they can (and do) blow up in your face, sometimes very weirdly.

This looks almost identical to Xenonauts 1. It would be good to hear your thoughts on how it differs as you play this game (assuming you haven't already finished recording it!).

It's very similar, but a lot cleaner and well thought out. I don't want to spoil the series so I'll save the details for later.

I'm always very suspicious when my lead scientist looks like Gaius Baltar. Makes me wonder if Xenonauts 2 has alien infiltrators 😀

I really want an XCOM fix but don't fancy XCOM 2 due to the timers (I just hate them). Did Chimera Squad so I'm watching this closely to see if it'll scratch the itch.

This isn't much a spoiler: This game is a solid XCOM fix but it DOES have missions with aggressive timers. But you can disable timers in the custom game options if you so wish (but you'll lose achievements if you do).
