Xenosaga may not be the same series as Xenoblade, but the two are closer than some would think. Xenosaga is a spiritual successor to Xenogears on the PS1, which was made by Squaresoft. The developers of the game wanted more creative freedom than Square was giving them, so they left the company to form Monolith Soft. They then worked with Namco to make the Xenosaga trilogy on PS2, before being bought by Nintendo to create Xenoblade. All three series have a lot of similarities in their stories and design while still standing on their own. Xenosaga has even crossed over directly with Xenoblade, with the character KOS-MOS appearing in Xenoblade Chronicles 2.

Random Fact Xenogears was originally designed to be one of the potential Stories for Final Fantasy 7, with a whole series worth of connecting stories roughly mapped out to create one mega saga, however it was seen as a little too dark for what they were planning for and had a lot of deep roots in religion to construct it's story which can still be very clearly seen in what later became Xenogears even after being toned down. Pretty crazy to think though we could've gotten a completely different FF7 potentially leading to an entirely different Xenosaga (one of the pieces of that mega saga mentioned earlier) and likely leading to Xenoblade as it's successor series never having a place to be made in the same way, as well would've had Fei being a Gaming Icon instead of Cloud... 🤔😂

@@-libertyprimev1-902 I know. I think it was also considered to be a Chrono Trigger sequel before it became it's own thing, which was meant to be a part of this big, 6 game long series, but that didn't work out. I think we can safely say that Xeno as a whole has been through a lot of interesting stuff.

@Xenomaniac Xenosaga is no question a prequel to Xenogears, but Xenoblade having any singular universe connection to either is pure speculation. (Actually due to some things in Xenoblade it's almost certain they're in a separate Timeline/Universe, but in the same Multiverse)

Yuki Kajiura is a legend in the anime music industry. Sadly, Xenosaga is her only video game credit but she's well-known in the anime space for her beautiful harmonic compositions, even being responsible for scores for some big series like Madoka Magica, Sword Art Online or Demon Slayer. If you're willing to dip your toes in her OSTs, some good recs would be 'Mezame' from Mai-Hime, 'A Shadow' and 'Everytime You Kissed Me' from Pandora Hearts, 'Thanatos' from Kara no Kyoukai, 'Open Your Heart' and 'In The Land of Twilight Under The Moon' from .hack//Sign, 'Hear Our Prayers' and 'A Song of Storm and Fire' from Tsubasa Chronicles.

Yuki Kajiura is an astounding composer, who did an excellent job on many things like Sword Art Online, Noir (my personal favorite), and Madoka Magica; her magnum opus, however, is the soundtrack to the original series of .Hack//Sign. Her command of strings, and ability to blend orchestral strings, tribal chanting (called "Kajuiran" by some fans) that almost seems to be a leitmotif to her music, and electric guitars and/or electronica is magical. The song "We Have To Defeat It" from Sword Art Online came on when friends were watching it, and I looked at a friend with a visible question mark over my head. He responded, "You can tell this is a Yuki Kajiura soundtrack." Her sound is unique.

If you enjoyed this, you should seriously look up 'Kalafina.' It's the 'project/band' that Kajiura put together. It's split up now, but several of the members were present in this studio version of Godsibb. Kajiura is the writer/producer and usually also on the piano in these live performances. I've been a fan of hers for well over a decade now... For those that don't know, the vast majority of Kajiura's songs are sung in her own made up language(which us fans tend to call 'Kajiuran'), which combines Japanese, Latin, and a couple others, with the end goal of using her singers voices' as an instrument. That's why she combines sounds from different languages in her vocals.

@LittleAl016 I don't believe so no Kalafina was Kajiuras project... and mostly had 3 main vocalists... Keiko, Wakana, and Hikaru. They had support from some others that Kajiura worked with previously but those were the main 4.

Xenosaga Episode III's soundtrack is what got me into Yuki Kajiura in the first place. Godsibb and Promised Pain were boss music tracks that really stuck out to me back then. Kajiura has become quite the renowned composer as of late, but Xenosaga II and III are a couple of her very few videogames she has composed for. Her music is powerful. FICTIONJUNCTION is the name of the band in the video.

Kajiura Yuki is one of my favorite composers and her band "Kalafina" is still one of my favorites even though they broke up a few years ago (apparently due to corporate meddling but needs further citation). Very sad that I wasn't as much as a fan when they they preformed at Anime Expo 2014 so I never got to see them live in person. But, if you want to hear similar stuff live, a cursory search of "kalafina live" on RU-vid gives a bunch of results from their past concerts.

Not to mention how diverse their music is, incorporating arabic/eastern influences as in Te to Te Me to Me and Usumurasaki, japanese influences as in Hyakka Ryouran and Hoshi no Utai, folk as in Marchen and Moonfesta and even techno as in Magnolia and Signal.

Xenosaga is sadly an underappreciated IP with fantastic OSTs. I imagine there are many sleeper fans out there who would bolt upright upon hearing that the trilogy got a remaster or even just a re-release of some kind on a modern platform. Please take our money, god damn it!

I have to wonder whether SE plans to remake/remaster Xenogears at some point given their recent focus on bringing back older titles. Maybe if that ends well, the "not worth it" Xenosaga remaster would be reconsidered.
@PazuChill

The thing is I doubt Square wants to touch Xenogears without Takahashi being involved. As for Xenosaga, there's a possibility that Bandai Namco is going to reconsider it after the recent success of Xenoblade. They may have their eyes on 3's numbers. Then again, Xenosaga is quite different, so the appeal isn't quite the same.

Xenosaga is a spiritual successor to Xenogears, and now Xenoblade is a spiritual successor to Xenosaga. All three series share plenty of thematic and visual elements, and they are all headed by director Tetsuya Takahashi. Xenogears, Xenosaga Episode 1 and Xenoblade Chronicles 2 and 3 are all headed by Yasunori Mitsuda as lead composer (sole for Gears and Saga 1), so his music has basically been the sound of the entire series so far, either following his epic Celtic style like Yuki Kaijura, ACE+, Kenji Hiramatsu and Manami have in subsequent games. Chronices X is the exception because its composer is Hiroyuki Sawano, more known for his sweeping orchestral and electronic soundtracks for Anime. Then there's the main game composer for Episode 2, but no one talks about memorable tracks from that game aside from Kaijura's contributions, TBH. In this case, Yuki Kaijura takes over composer duties for Xenosaga Episode 2's cutscenes and the entirety of Episode 3. Godsibb is a boss battle theme against one of the main antagonists of Episode 3, and it's so fitting for the particular boss.

Yuki Kajiura is one of my favorite composers. She works mostly on anime and I have physical CDs for lots of them. I couldn't believe it when they announced she would be the main composer for the Xenosaga 2 and 3 games. Xenogears -> Xenosaga -> Xenoblade are part of the same ethos and are spiritual successors, developed by the same team at different companies. Her elaborate orchestral themes and violin solos are simply AMAZING.

The singers are Yuriko, Kaori and Joey(subbing for wakana). Keiko is the 4th member but this song doesn't have bass parts so she ain't here. edit. Just had to comment about that "they're made to sing with each other" comment. That's the genius of the composer man. The "band" fictionjunction is a little odd, in that the only constant member is the producer yuki kajiura, who migrates from project to project, rolling up all these absurd talents into a beautiful operatic fusion drumnbass electronica katamari, and then starts over when she thinks some part of her process gets stale. Her early work was the crisp meaty center of so many early 2000's amvs, it's a little crazy. Big mover/shaker. Thank God she quit her IT job for this.
@BattleCattleSA
@BattleCattleSA 2 года назад
You mentioned you liked the production, so I say all this to bring to the fore that her production is very much the point of her doing this (besides making money haha). She gathers up a bunch of talent, learns as much about how to mix them into something utterly unique, and then hucks them into the sky like a greek constellation. Between fictionjunction and kalafina, so much of anime and games music's sound today can be traced right back to her personal drive to improve.

The composer of this song i believe did both Xenosaga 2 and 3 soundtracks and did work for the anime Sword Art Online from which "luminous sword" and "swordland" come to mind (both having having a heavier remix named "light your sword " and "gunland" respectively for the second season ost), violins and singers are more prominent in the original iterations of the songs than the latter remixes. Xenosaga is in fact a Monolithsoft game series, just as Xenoblade and Xenogears (sort of) are. And they all share themes, design elements, and some degree of underlying lore and cosmology though Xenogears, Xenosaga, and Xenoblade are all from under different ownership. Each series references the prior heavily. Xenogears from when Takahashi (creator of Monolithsoft) worked for Squaresoft, Xenosaga from when Monolithsoft was owned by Namco, and Xenoblade now that Monolithsoft is owned by Nintendo.

God i miss Xenosaga so much. Such an underappreciated series because of awful marketing. Xenosaga 1 and 3 are such insanely good games. Xenosaga 2 unfortunately killed any chance of the series seeing huge success because of how horrendously bad the global market was and how bad the gameplay was compared to 1 and 3 (because 2 was given to another person to work on.) But Xenosaga 1 and 3 were just in another class of their own. The music is absolutely bonechilling across the series and hits the themes of the story perfectly.

Xenosaga and Xenoblade have the same developers, but not the same composers. Except for Yasunori Mitsuda, who composed for Xenosaga 1 and Xenoblade 2 and 3.

Superb ost. Unfortunately live performances kill the sense of immersion for me

Xenosaga is in fact not related to Xenoblade! It is a very old rpg series that was made on PS2, and maybe the third was on PS3 but I could be wrong. Xenosaga has a very interesting story, and such cool characters. It was one of the harder rpg's with a turn-based batte system at the time, enemies were no push-overs. But yeah, entirely its own thing!

It should be mentioned that both series are by the same studio and director. Though, despite some similarities, the composer Yuki Kajiura wasn't involved in Xenoblade. Yasunori Matsuda was the main composer of Xenoblade and Xenogears.

In my case it was also funny cause I've never heard this song before and didn't know who was the composer but right from the start the vocals reminded me of Kara no Kyoukai and of course it was Kajiura! :D

It is related, but not directly connected. It obviously stands on it's own and the story has nothing to do with Xenoblade and Xenogears, but they're definitely related and have many similarities (and have even crossed over from time to time).

It is actually related to Xenoblade, as is Xenogears. Especially in background lore.
