Man incredible side by side comparison. I had a chance to buy the Daylite Hiker on sale this weekend but had just found out about it, I immediately regret not buying it. I shall return and buy this shoe.
Quite Sure that Xero uses Something similiar to the Climaproof-Membrane of the adidas Terrex Tivid Mid. The used Membrane is also welted Bootie and make Tivid Mid slightly stiffer and protective. adidas rates all Gore-Tex as Just waterproof, while the Tivid Mid is defined as waterproof and Designed for wet weather. Xero make very interesting shoes and Boots.👌
Thanks, super helpful! Been debating between these 3 if I were to only get one shoe -- sounds like the Daylight hiker might be the way to go. I'm curious, though, why you'd prefer the heel to come up higher? Often I hear movement folks talk about wanting to be able to have flexibility in the ankle, and the ankle support of traditional hiking boots not allowing for that.
I think it is because I look at the shoe like it is a boot. And having a boot that can help keep out debris better would mean that it needs to come up higher. This isn’t the heel Per se, but rather the material that comes up to the ankle. I also think that if it did come up a little bit higher, I could help lock me into place somewhat better. The shoe is super flexible and so I wouldn’t worry about it being stiff around the ankle. I don’t really think of the upper going up higher as so much for support but rather the main benefit of keeping stuff out. I hope this helps
The daylite hiker fusion runs WAY BIG and the fit was completely off, extremely wide I returned it immediately! The Mesa trail on the other hand INCREDIBLE fit and feel debating whether I should try the excursion fusion as I do need a waterproof shoe/boot worried it's gonna similar to the daylite hiker fusion.
The Xcursion Fusion does fit somewhat smaller than the Daylite Hiker. It also has more lacing to allow for a more snug fit. It fits bigger than the Mesa Trail though. It is a bit more narrow than the Daylite Hiker as well. Hope this helps and good luck! 🍀👍 👍
Thank you so much for this. This was SUPER helpful. Any experience with the terraflex 2? seems a middle ground between the daylite fusion and mesa trail.
Unfortunately, I do not. I do not own these shoes. However, they are definitely going to be more protective than the Mesa Trails. I can definitely tell you that.
Thank you for the review. I've been looking for a hiking boot (I'm in Vivos and Leguanos normally). I tried Altras and hated them. I'm a bit scared that the sole of the Daylite Hiker might also feel too thick. I'm a bit torn between giving the Mesa Trail or the Daylite Hiker a try.
Another one to consider is the Terraflex 2. It has minimal cushion, but a fair amount of protection. It has to do with the firmness of the rubber. I personally don’t own a pair, but I have friends that do who love them, and I used to have the first pair of the original Xcursion which has a similar tread, bottom ……and to my knowledge uses the same rubber. The rubber is Firm, which allows for protection, but thin enough, which allows for ground feel. If you go with the Mesa Trail, for sure size up because it does run small. Hope this helps!!
@@PerfectingMovement thank you very much for these details! Today I finally decided to buy the Daylite Hiker. The reason: They currently sell out the brown version of the Hiker here in Germany for 70 Euro. The other models are at 150-170 Euro. I'm looking forward to my first walk, hopefully at the weekend. Thanks, man!
@@PerfectingMovement hey, just wanted to give you the update: i needed to size the daylite hikers one size up. Now they are perfect. Very comfy and you feel the ground surprisingly well, foot muscels are also working really well in them. They are totally not like the Altras. Thanks again + wish you well, buddy!
Thanks for the articulate comparison review. : ) I tried the link. Not an affiliate anymore I guess? Or link expired & ya got a new one? If you wear the Daylite Hiker Fusion a lot, how's it held up so far? Do you know if it performs well mountain biking (i.e., don't slip off the pedals)?
Hi there! First off, I think the affiliate link still works. It will just take you directly to the website. Thanks for clicking it! To my knowledge, I am still an affiliate! The boot has held up pretty well. I do wear it a fair amount, but I also have other shoes that I use which I have reviewed and so do not use it exclusively. The tread is kind of gnarly on the bottom and so I think it would work OK with a mountain bike. I prefer the Daylite hiker to the excursion because it is a bit wider, more flexible, and more breathable. They also now have other colors besides black which I think is great. I hope this helps!
Hi, thank you for this review. Would you suggest Daylite for running in really cold days on snow, but not wet and slushy? Perhaps the occasional snow on top of shoe but shaken off. Difficult to decide as I want breathability but keeping feet warm and dry! My Mesas are warm enough in -5 C and wind, I think Daylites would help keep me warm in -20, as long as I don't let water in. Thoughts?
Yes! I think she would work great for that! Definitely a warmer shoe than the Mesa Trail. They are slightly water resistant and so I think I should do the trick for you.
I moved to Switzerland to the city of Bern. Here in winter the temperature is -5C 0C +5C. Are these boots suitable for this temperature? Or is it better to take the “Alpin shoes” model? What size should I take if my foot length is 29 cm?
So the Xcursion boots are somewhat breathable. They do not breathe, as well as the Daylite Hiker though. I would not say that one is warmer than the other. Regarding temperature, they won’t be as warm as the Alpine. If you were going to be spending much time around 0°, I would go with the Alpine as they are insulated.
@@PerfectingMovement My temperature in winter is (-5C)(+5C). Alpine boots for temperatures from -25C to -32C. I'll be hot in them. Do you think that I'm wrong?
I’m not really used to dealing in Celsius, as we are somewhat backward in the United States, and use Fahrenheit. Nevertheless, 0°C is the freezing point. If you are going to be outside most of the day, and are at 0°C, I don’t think your feet would be very warm, unless you had some level of insulation. The Alpine boots are warmer, in that they have some insulation, but not very warm. They are not heavy duty. Alpine boots. If you are not going to spend all day outdoors, or are not actively hiking, then the other two options would be better for you. However, if you were going to be standing around, not working up a sweat, and with temperatures at the freezing point, you might be better with the Alpines. For sure, though, if you are looking for the most breathable option, the Daylite hiker is the most breathable. Out of all of the three boots, I think the most versatile option is the Daylite Hiker. It also has more room than the Xcursion for the toes dot splay. I say this because having a bit more room can help with warmth.
