Nicely done with the radio comparisons. I am beginning to think I might have to pick up one of the D-608WB radios. Thanks for your radio reviews

Thank you! I do think it is a very capable radio.

Yes, I can definitely vouch that your D-608WB's RSSI numbers jumped from 22 to 49 when you placed the AN-200 loop for the second time! The magic starts around 07:49 in this video demonstration! 📻👍

Thanks! That AN-200 certainly makes a difference. On the D-808 it is not always very noticeable, but on most of my other radios the difference is clear.

@@swlistening My situation is severely handicapped in the sense that my house is flanked by four double-storey homes, with my back neighbor's home being the tallest since the owner demolished the original structure and rebuilt it to look like a tropical hotel chalet. 😞 Even 4G cellphone signals and the ASTRO satellite reception are affected. The only way for me to realize the fullest potential of the dozen or so receivers that I have is to book a home stay or Air BnB by the beach and spend two nights there. 😥

@@StratmanII Sounds to me like you have a really good reason to book a beach house by the sea every weekend 😄

I second the opinions expressed in the comments that the D-608WB has better audio than the D-808. It really improved readability, not to mention signals seem to sound just cleaner on the D-608WB. That at least when listening on a smartphone 😅 André, another experiment you may want to try is to hook up your longwire or even a MLA-30 to the 3.5mm socket on your AN-200. Not only would the loop pick up signals off the external antenna (although in addition to signals and noise received by itself), but also act as a preselector, in case strongest signals were to overload or desensitize your radio 😉 Doesn't necessarily work as well as hooking a coul wound on a ferrite rod (which I tried & loved 😜), but you should still see a decent improvement :)

Thanks Arnie, I agree with you also that the audio on the D-608 is certainly more intelligible than the D-808 on weak signals. Even when listening in real life in my study :-) Thank you so much for the MLA30 suggestion with a long wire, I would never have thought of that. I plan to try it tonight already. We have a power cut right now, so less noise, perfect time to try.

Again I am amazed at the reception abilities of new portables. I also may have to get both the 608wb & 808

Some of these portables are really quite excellent, it is surprising what the DSP-chip technology can do.

Thanks Andre both have decent MW performance . The less expensive D-608WB still has the improved sound to my ears, but the D-808 is decent in a more muffled sound way, although I ordered a D-608WB I plan to order the D-808 in the near future for complete SW with SSB coverage. 73! Have a great day!

Thanks! I think the D-608WB is pretty much on par with the D-808 in all respects, except for the SSB and air band coverage. But sound on the D-608WB is definitely better.

Reception of weak signals is better on D-808 but sound is better on D-608WB.

Really amazing distances there for reception! I was looking at the 808 it’s 88 euros so maybe sometime I’ll give it a try.

Thanks Matt! The D-808 is really good on MW, it is usually my go-to radio for MW DXing, and the Tecsun ICR-110 also. My Kenwood is not very good on MW, unfortunately. Apparently there are some modifications you can do to improve MW on the Kenwood R1000, but I haven't really looked into it yet.

@@swlistening I’ve only tried my R-2000 on a few mw stations on an indoor short wire but it seems to be good. I’ve yet to go out to the cabin as we had -30.C last night. I find my Sony ICF-2001D is better and last night got a station in Egypt on 864 kHz which is a European clear channel so that was a distance of 4257km! This possibly is one you could try for as it’s a 500kW transmitter. I always try for VOA on 1530 but there’s a Portuguese station and Romanian that despite only being 10kW you can’t hear much else.

@@arcticradio Thanks Matt, sounds to me like the R2000 is better than the R1000 on MW. I have actually caught that Egyptian one, some time ago, on my XHDATA D-808 and on the Tecsun ICR-110. One catch was in September, our springtime: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-eLo3VMro_IQ.htmlfeature=shared The other was actually in summer, here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-iapR3NZTKE0.html I am a bit surprised now to see that I got this one in summer, this year my MW DXing in summer has been dismal.
