I've genuinely never had so much fun watching a solo playthrough on a game before, really want to get my hands on this game, only found out today it existed!
I'm so happy to see this back! I watched your previous play through and was sad to hear that you had sold XIA. It is great that you got it back and I vote YES to continuing this campaign series. Thank you for this!
Loved it and would love to see more! I would upgrade to the +3 impulse! You used it a lot in this game and if your next goal is to get blown up 3 times in the best game that's extra movement to do blind jumps or move into asteroid fields!
I just want to say, in a very long winded response to this video, when I first saw this on Shut Up And Sit Down's channel, I knew immediately I had to buy it. I scouted Ebay for weeks until a pristine copy came up as they were at the time out of print and paid nearly 450$ usd for the whole shebang. But man, it was well fucking worth it. I absolutely love this game and have only recently been able to really learn it and get into it. This video has helped me tremendously play the solo campaign (which is where I've been learning the rules to hopefully teach my friends some time down the road when we can get together and play) and your clear instruction along with great narration is an absolute treat to watch. Thanks for uploading this whole thing! I'm really glad other people out there see the immense replay value this game has. Cody really struck gold with this game. I don't know if you have done any searching or not, but just recently I've found on that on Board Game Geek there's an entire section of player-made custom content for this! You can print it out and use some of the Xia: Mod kits to literally make print quality board game pieces sectors tokens and ship mats. If you haven't checked some of those out, you absolutely should! They even have some star wars ships and planets! It's insane! Again, just a huuuuuuge thank you for taking the time out to do such a great job and conveying the rule set for this very rule-dense, immensely fun game. Hope to see you in the cosmos sometime, Asteroid Worm!! :D
Such a great game, glad to see new channel content on this one. Absolutely love the story potential this game brings without locking you in to an inflexible game for the sake of it.
Instantly subscribed after watching a couple of your videos. Hands down the best board game playthroughs on RU-vid. Very energetic and positive presentation (both you and Mike; haven't watched the others yet), just enough level of rules clarification, and exceptional editing. Looking forward to the rest of Xia campaign. Cheers!
A huge “yes” to continuing this series! I bought this game after watching your previous playthrough. Definitely looking forward to watching this entire series!
So great to hear your enthusiasm again Colin. As a matter of fact, funny coincidence. I also just reacquired this game a few months ago after having sold it a few years ago! This was the first time I rebought a game I had sold. Please do more of your enthusiastic playthroughs! Oh. And edit : I would choose the +1 to shield, missile and blaster use!
Love XIA and it's been way too long since I've played. So glad to see you running through the campaign. Now I get to watch and learn and get my own campaign underway.
@@OneStopCoopShopBTW, at 10:05 (setup) you can spawn your Tier 1 ship on any spawn point of your choice, from Solo Rules booklet, Setup #10. The SOLO SETUP card does not specifically say you get to choose.
Just finished watching. That was awesome. I really hope you do more campaign for the channel. I’d get the extra impulse probably: seems useful and upgrades nicely too.
Thank You for these. I was having trouble wrapping my head around the rules. I even tried one of those combined rulebooks from BGG. It was all still clear as mud. These helped immensely. Thank You.
Great gameplay. Really excited to see you do this game! I’ve been trying to get it to the table for quite a while. The solo play through is very helpful. I would pick the +3 impulse. It seems that your ability to move in this game is very important. The extra impulse could help with so many different situations.
Awesome play through as always! At some point this year my birthday will come around and the next video in this series would be the perfect gift...you know...if you're looking for gift ideas.
7:28 Lovely ship name, makes me remnisce on my old piece of UNSW Prolog code to play with rational arithmetic on Amiga 500... P.S. Also love exploring, which is why I'm vigorously inquiring my sources about availability of this game. On the other hand, you should get of your comfort zone at times and try Elite: Dangerous video game for it's exploration and xenobiology loops (ignore recent changes that predominantly affect other gameplay loops)
Great to see this back on the channel. Inspires me to get on to a Solo campaign myself! I think that (strictly speaking) you made rules goofs by revealing titles and events immediately - you're meant to wait until the end of your turn (which means the open shields would not have triggered so quickly!!!) However I think I prefer the way you did it and it makes it easier! Tip maybe? When placing damage on the extra damage mod, if you'd placed one on the junction and one on the ship you would have had 2 spaces for ice damage which could then not spread. Didn't matter in the end but could have given you an extra turn outside a planet. So looking forward to the rest of this series - I hope you continue doing them to complete the campaign!!!
Thanks so much for watching!! I totally forgot that events and titles don't reveal until end of turn! That would have drastically changed that ending I think! Oh well thanks for the reminder. Loved the tip too thank you! Planning on doing the next scenario in the next month!!
There was a similar trick available at the very end (when it didn't matter anyway) - placing the final damage in both spaces adjacent to the ice would have prevented it from spreading if the game ending hadn't done so anyway.
Great playthrough. This is awesome game, I'd love to see you doing more videos of this game, if it's too long for the other watchers you could divide the videos into two parts like in your old seriess. Regarding the question of what to upgrade, I would probably upgrade the impulse.
I’ve owned this game for many years. It has never been played though I have gone through the rules multiple times. This video is the first time I feel like I can complete this game. Thanks for your hard work!
Yes please, for more Xia! I only recently ordered the reprint of Xia, but it will not be delivered until at least early 2023. I wish I had the game already. But someday!
Payed way to much for a mint used copy with expansions. Wow, I love this game. I've watched this and the other playthrough multiple times. Yours is the best by far. Would love to see you continue with campaign. Thanks for all you do.
Really enjoyed this playthrough! I really appreciate the pacing of the video, narration, and cuts between actions. It’s not too fast which makes it easier to follow without having to stop and rewind. How long do you think it would have taken to play the session if you weren’t recording it?
Thanks so much for watching! If want recording probably about the same amount of time as the video since I had to move the Cabrera around etc. So this was a longer one. You will see if you watch the campaign other objectives are much faster than this one!
Yes, more solo campaign vids. I will play this for a week or two put it away and pull it out 6 to 9 months later and have to relearn the whole thing again but I do love the game and the company was super responsive when my first copy arrived missing many of the components I got a full replacement at no cost so I have some extra ships if two of us wish to play the same ship.
Such a great game and I loved the play through. I quiet love to watch the entire campaign over time, for sure. I would think the +3 impulse would be great to start with, so you are not pigeon holes in with an ability you may not use right away. You will always use the impulse, no matter what type of game you are playing this scenario. Just my two cents. 😊
I'm torn between the +3 impulse and the 0 cost for level 1 ship abilities - the former is always going to be useful; the latter isn't always going to do anything, but is going to be useful whenever it does. The mid-turn re-arm also looks useful, but only really if you invest all three levels in it - and only if your ship loadout supports 5-action turns. edit: also, the orange cubes are "Spice" not "Salt" (probably a Dune reference).
I heard the creators of Xia said they are going back to add more to it after they finish up Arydia. Any truth to this? Xia is a great game btw. And yes, continue these playthroughs. Love this channel!
I'd say Impulse or movement, since both will be good no matter the objective. I like eliminating options so it forces you to make choices you don't normally do. It reminds me vaguely of the Eldritch Horror campaign, except better =D
I don't think you can re-arm your markers and immediately get energy back, like you did in 25:00. Recharging happens in Business phase and Re-arming in the next one.
53:25 you say that ice damage would not spread into the ship if it's in the armor plating. I don't think thats true. Rules say it will only go into the ship or into the plating through the green area.
@@OneStopCoopShop "Ice Damage can go in armor plating (and only spreads into the ship through the single connection point)." -Ira This is from an old post that was confusing me. I was thinking it would spread just through the connection point.
@@coreymayo8321 so just curious. How are you playing it? I still do it as Ice can spread into the ship with the quote that I put up from Ira (designer). Unless I'm somehow just reading it wrong, his part in parenthesis says it spreads into the ship through the green point. I still haven't seen anything that says ice can't spread into the ship.
Also, I'd love to see more. You always make these games seem so fun. BTW, Christmas brought be the atomic bonds expansion for fallout (which you convinced me to get). My kids really enjoyed it as a coop.
@@OneStopCoopShop we've really only tried Far Harbour coop. It was good. We were on the Far Harbor side. We might try it again on the side of the children of the atom. A super mutant, the ghoul, and the mister handy would feel thematic playing it that way. Just so you know, you're on notice. If you ever move up to Canada, you have to move to my neighbourhood.
@@OneStopCoopShop unfortunately I'm not, they're not shipping to brazil I think, at least from what I remember. But Xia I can still find some used copies though. Now I do have mage knight UE, so I'm not sure if arydia would replace it, we'll see ;)
@@OneStopCoopShop thanks for the heads up! Wish that was $75 CAD lol. I'll still get it though, definitely better than the price anywhere else. Any expansions worth getting? I'm torn on if I should bother with any of them aside from the embers one
@@OneStopCoopShop thanks again, you've been a great help! Just pledged, been looking for ages for board games that scratch the scifi and exploration itch. Love games that have the map discovered as you play, they make it way more repayable to me.
