My second Xiamen Airlines flight in two days confirms my suspicion that this is one of the best airlines in the world. This flight from Xiamen to Chengdu was amazon in every way (except maybe for the old recliner-style seats) and it left me feeling that I need to fly Xiamen Airlines more. A lot more.
This was flight number 8441, operated by a 737-800 (B-1301). I had seat 12A (in business class) for this three hour flight.

HAHA! Welcome to Xiamen! I come from Xiamen, it's my hometown. Xiamen also have an another English name before, it was "Amoy". It is come from our local dialects.

I know I'm 2 years late to comment, but the reason why they bus you to a gate with an airbridge is that the gate where the plane is parked is an international gate. So you can't use the airbridge as you are flying domestic, I guess they do that when they run out of domestic gates.

Been to that hill in Chengdu (it was closed at the time for repairs). From what I heard from locals, there's a mix of airplane spotters and people testing out cameras. In the spring, flowers bloom, meaning one can get amazing photos with photos and airplanes

I really, really, really watch many trip report type videos and have subscribed to most of them but your videos stand out in the way you edit them. I like the voice overs and it feels like I'm watching a TV show really. It's entertaining enough to actually always watch your entire episodes. I usually don't want to bother non-native speaker with pronunciation, but it looks like you want to give it a try. LOL I think Xia-men the "men" part is not an issue but the "Xia" prefix. "Xia" really sounds like "Shot" (Gun shot or drinking shot glass shot) without the "t" sound. Hope this helps.

Nice video Scott! One tip I would have for your channel is to include a route on a digital map so we (the viewers) can work out how long your flight would be. You may not add this, just a quick tip, but I have no idea where Xiamen and Chengtdu are relative to each other, so it would have been helpful if you included a map.

You are so funny! I love your quirky approach to your reviews- they are so human! I have flown internal Chinese flights - but back in the dark ages before China was really open to foreign travelers and pre widespread internet. They've upped their game 1000% - I remember flying Beijing to Shenzhen- the safety card said on the cover "Just in case" - which doesn't look so hilarious now but at the time was a welcome diversion from the feeling that safe arrival really didn't feel guaranteed!

Haha, thanks! I think it’s just my accent - “a” is how I naturally pronounce the “e” in Chengdu. Anyway, my next video is going to be equally difficult because it’s a review of Sichuan Airlines. I have no idea how to pronounce that! 😬😅

I mean, domestically this is ok but allow me to mention the absurness they fly this 737 to and from Singapore which is a 5 hour flight. its really not very comfortable compared to other airlines running 787/350, and it cost just the same

xiamen has the best business class service in China. Their hard product though is soon going to get beaten by the enclosed suites of air china/china eastern b787/a350. hopefully xiamen will increase their food and service game even more. will be trying hainan and my expectation is high from the reviews. Probably on par if not better than Xiamen. My only problem with hainan is the us route schedule is almost never daily and you'll only get good fare if going to their non-hub cities. Also can't wait until xiamen operate the new airport. Current xiamen airlines terminal stinks real bad. FYI, as a J passenger you could've taken a small fancy bus in xiamen airport rather than be with the crowd.

Really, there was a private bus? I wish I would’ve known that! 😮 Oh well. Anyway, yeah, I flew Hainan on the way home from this trip (video soon), and even though it was economy I was incredibly impressed. Chinese airlines are getting good. 😎

@@sanspotter Yes. J passenger and skyteam elite plus can get on the small private bus in Xiamen and other cities within China... Not in LAX though but was surprised that 2 weeks ago Xiamen got an actual gate in TBIT instead of one of those remote gates. Looking forward to the hainan video. Perhaps you can try china eastern a350/b787 soon as well. I tried them but on a regional flight so did not get the full long haul experience. I believe Vancouver will be serviced by the a350 soon and perhaps other american cities to follow.

The problem is that I think I’m saying it correctly in my head, but my mouth doesn’t make those kinds of sounds. That’s one of the reasons why learning a new language is so difficult.👍🏻

From 'Shy men' to 'She men'.... it's still not pronounced right..... Close but still not quite; it's she AH men, with an ah sound in the middle as if you were seeing the dentist. It's actually two syllables but if you say it in quick succession I'm pretty sure it will sound alright.

I’ve come to the conclusion that my mouth can’t make those noises sound natural in quick succession. 😂 Oh well. I have no more Xiamen Air videos to make so at least I don’t have to worry about it anymore. 😆
