I don't think so... especially since we get girl-vs-girl fights so often... She is actually based on 3 different characters: 1. villians wife from original ballad who helps Mulan to kill him 2. In 16th/17th century they expanded the ballad by adding warrior princess from opposite clan, who unites with Mulan to end war 3. Hayabusa (falcon) from 1998 animation Her sacrifice for Mulan also shows us great complex personalities of people involved in war - you can't tell wheter she was evil or not, and how sides can be changed anytime I think she is the best new character from all D remakes, and I really, really hope she will return for sequel - phoenix can heal her wounds
@@NenadlPopovic If Mulan had a sequel, she could've been the next villian minus all the superpowers. People just wanted a remake of the original Mulan and the remake bombed hard because it tried to do that and 20 other things all at once.
@@nunyabiznes33 The very first original story is actually a poem! It’s called “The Ballad of Mulan” and dates back to 400 AD. Throughout history there has been many versions and adaptations since, but the original poem did not have a witch :) 🧙♀️
@@thebluefield original ballad had villians wife, who in turn helped Mulan to end war. In 17th century, ballad was rewritten & introduced warrior princess - who by finding out Mulan was a girl too, unites with her. Xianniang is based on these 2 ladies + falcon from animated 1998.
I wish we got detailed close up of her walking in the desert, its soooo mystical & beautiful... She is my fave new character from all D remakes, and I really hope she will return for sequel (phoenix could heal her wounds)... if not, then at least we need a spin off film just about her!
There will be no sequel or spin-off, to summarise, it simply sucked! Animated Mulan (idc if historically inaccurate) >>>>>>>>>> sht show live action Mulan.
She explicitly said to not call her witch and now we have "The Witch" as her title. It could have at least been "Witch Warrior" or something. Anyway, great character.
although she wasn't really a character in the original, i do like her bcuz she really had that sinister vibe towards her until she decided to go good and i like that in a character, and that she was very observant and smart knowing how Mulan wasn't really a man.
Xianniang is based on ShanYu’s pet falcon. Just like Diaval is based on Maleficent’s pet raven. Diaval and Xianniang are bird shapeshifters based on petbirds of DisneyVillains.
For all the magical prowess Gong Li's character embodied, one could not help but wonder, why didn't she turn into a human to intercept the arrow when Bori Khan fired into to Mulan's direction? That, was the biggest wtf in this film. Also the part where 5 mins into the film, the story establishes Mulan's superhuman ability as a form of Chi, which was honestly just a stupid way of interpreting Qi.
It's a rather universal rule. The moment the villain turns into a good guy, they lose all of their OP powers, and becomes sacrificial fodder for the main character.
Excuse me, what do you mean 'why she didn't turn into human' - she transformed into a falcon CUZ SHE WAS FLYING TO SAVE MULAN - she wasn't able to fly in her human form, lol. She transformed back to woman in Mulans arms as she lost her magical abilities due to wound lol
@@vanefarvel2946 Hey! sorry I'm just 12 years old, and English is not my first language, but I'm still learning it. My parents teached me how to respect someone. And hope your parents did the samething, Because if you want to correct my grammar, I'm sure there's a better way to do it without being entitled 🙏
I feel like the only thing that made the movie less than great was adding chi to it, otherwise I was okay with mushu not being in it. I kind of wish the phoenix was done a little better, otherwise it was a good movie.
@@nazyriantecartwright7810 I just think think the way it was added in made it seem a little less. Where Mulan training her skills seemed to be her just having chi and not her own strength.
@@nazyriantecartwright7810 you can't just put chi into a movie "because it's filipino." that'd be like putting santa claus into a dark tragedy and then saying "what's wrong with that? the movie was meant for americans!" the inclusion utterly betrays the themes of the original movie, and it's also not present in the actual story that it was based on, the ballad of mulan, making it neither a remake nor a faithful adaptation.
Lmao chi has been a thing in Kung Fu movies for decades, it's not magic, there were no dragons and crickets either, the phoenix you see in the movie is a symbol of protection
Xianniang is based on ShanYu’s pet falcon. Just like Diaval is based on Maleficent’s pet raven. Diaval and Xianniang are bird shapeshifters based on petbirds of DisneyVillains.
Mushu is replaced with a fenghuang (Chinese phoenix). Shang is renamed Honghui. ShanYu is renamed Bori Khan. Xianniang is based on ShanYu’s pet falcon. Just like Diaval is based on Maleficent’s pet raven. Diaval and Xianniang are avian shapeshifters based on petbirds of DisneyVillains.
What??? The chinese are portrayed by asians and the arab traders by arabs? What kind of racist trope is this?? Disney??? How can you be so racist??? The chinese should be portrayed by a mixed cast of latino, african, native american, and austroneasian actors. While the arab traders should likewise be portrayed by a rainbow of backgrounds. Helloooo... its 2022???
Exposing to external threats of invasive went on the chinese female villain warrior unusually well being without proper treatment, it’s very beautiful what she is doing was destroying exterior and exterminater.
I get why the back-payers wanted Xianniang as a secondary antagonist for Mulan to try to humanize, but in all honesty; them Hollywood hacks are playing with our senses to provide TWO fanservice-able females so corn sites won't make Mulan a more viable roleplay character for the later movies which will be terrible. This movie is an attack on people who have a fetish for Asian culture!
