Xiao's Cola Spareribs Chinese Style
Welcome to Xiao's Kitchen. My name is Xiao Wei and my goal is to make your cooking simple and exciting. Ever since my Mother showed me how to cook at an early age, I have always had a strong passion for cooking. My family still live in Inner Mongolia, in the northern part of China, where I visit each year and learn new Chinese recipes.
Ingredients:
400g Spareribs, cut into 1-inch pieces - ask your butcher to do this if you wish
330ml Cola
1 Tbsp Light Soy Sauce
1 Tbsp Dark Soy Sauce
1 Tsp Cooking Wine
5g Ginger, finely chopped
Method:
1. Place 1000ml of cold water in a pan, add the ribs and bring to the boil - remove any froth floating in the pan
2. Boil for 5 minutes, remove ribs and drain, discard the water
3. Place the well-drained ribs into the pan, add both of the soy sauce, cooking wine, ginger and the cola (cola level should just cover the ribs
4. Turn the heat to high and bring to the boil
5. Once it reached boiling point, turn heat to low, cover and cook for 40 to 50 minutes until the meat is tender
6. Turn the heat back to high and reduce the liquid until it thickens
7. Remove the ribs onto a dish and enjoy
