I got my hands on the Xiaomi 14 Pro, and I tested the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for benchmarks, did a quick overview of HyperOS, and tested the cameras, mainly against the Xiaomi 13 Ultra.
I got the Xiaomi 14 Pro from Trinity Electronics, a Hong Kong-based phone importer ( trinityelectronic).

OK apparenrly the "Light Hunter 900" sensor is from Omnivision not Sony. I have to look into it more. Apologies for mistake.

The official name given by Xiaomi is "Light Fusion 900" which most believe is a customized version of the OmniVision OV50H sensor.

Thanks again for a detailed concise review. From your review I can see that the Xiaomi 14 Pro is an overall flagship but the main camera is a slight downgrade. But this leads me to believe that next year’s Xiaomi 14 Ultra will fill the gaps and be even better than the current Xiaomi 13 Ultra.

If you pay attention, you can see that 14 used nearly 3 times smaller ISO in night photos than the 13 ultra. The sensor is really an upgrade. Probably has double layer sensor that Sony Xperia 1 V uses, im happy that xiaomi succeed in making it f1.4, thats crazy in a smartphone. Also that makes sense why they used a smaller sensor than imx 989. A lens with that aperature right now is not possible with a 1" sensor.

You've rapidly become one of my go to tech reviewers. I have a Xiaomi 13T Pro coming on Friday or Saturday. My Poco F3 works just fine, and I am finding it hard to justify the 600€ I paid for the 12/512GB version, although I think I got it for a good price. I hope that when I have it in my hands I won't feel so guilty, because It's a lot of money for me. The Xiaomi 14 looks great, but it'll be out of my range when it comes out anyway, so I'm just window shopping here. Keep up the good work, I'm looking forward to a more in-depth review if you have one planned, I appreciate all your effort.

@@mks1404 Let me clarify. I have paid 600€ for a 12/512GB Xiaomi 13T Pro. The 13T Pro is going to replace my Poco F3 I bought 2+ years ago. I did consider getting a Poco F5, since I have been very pleased with the F3, but it didn't feel like enough of an upgrade to me personally. I was going to hold off maybe a Poco F6, but I'm afraid I could not resist the 13T Pro.

Great video.I'm really happy that Xiaomi has now upgraded the front-facing camera to 4K , and the selfies look much better.By your assessment,it definitely does seem like the overall camera system of this Xiaomi 14 Pro is a step below the premium Xiaomi 13 ultra. All we can do is certainly wait for the Xiaomi 14 ultra, which most likely will have the 1-inch sensor. Xiaomi and Oppo are the two smartphone brands that have some of the biggest sensors on a camera, and they back that up with great imagery.Oppo Find X6 Pro seems to have the best ultra wide photos over any smartphone right now.

I feel like smartphone cameras have peaked. Improvements are tiny and any modern smartphone you pick up takes great pictures. This one does not even feel like an improvement, it's like they replaced a naturally aspirated V8 with a 4 cylinder but added a turbo charger to it so the performance stays the same more or less. IMX989 still shows more bokeh in examples like at 5:35. I realized that what really differentiates cameras from smartphones and gives cameras "that" look, is the bokeh, but I don't know how that can be achieved in a small smartphone space. So this is pretty much it. I do like the continuous variable aperture; that's a good innovation. That might help with video in sunny weather, where the shutter speed becomes so fast to deal with the light that it makes video unpleasant looking. Hopefully they bring it over to the 14 Ultra but with a 1"-type sensor. I would like them to work on improving lenses. Lumia 950, for example, is an old phone from 2015 but there is still nothing on the market that takes close-to-midrange photos with the same edge-to-edge sharpness like it. Many modern phones have very unpleasant blur with ghosting effect. Oversampled 1080p from 4K video recording setting would be great, so you get a smaller 1080p file, but with almost 4K quality. Focusing speed control for smoother cinematic transitions would be great. Modern smartphone images all have a very similar look. It's like they are using the same off the shelf processing algorithm. There is still no other phone on the market that takes images that look like they came out of a DSLR like Nokia 808 PureView. Lumia 950's images look like they have a similar processing to Sony. The noise handling is different. Maybe this is a video idea for you, Ben. Get older flagships and see how much have things really improved. One thing I really like about HyperOS is how bouncy and interactive the UI is. I much prefer the edge bounce back effect over the UI stretching effect that stock Android has. Don't know why they went with that. Finally, I liked the bonus Pocket 3 footage. That's a really good camera and a form factor. Might put some serious pressure on Sony's RX100/ZV1 line. Great video as always, Ben!

LightHunter 900 is actually from OmniVision model OVBH50. Xiaomi specially slighted modified with OV, offically named OV600X. Not from Sony, actually. Now Xiaomi is supporting national enterprises, and using their raw material. Like display by TCL CSOT, not from Samsung. Main sensor from OmniVision, not from SONY. And the glass also made by their supply chain, not from Corning Gorilla Glass.
