I think the performance in photography between Xiaomi 14 and Xiaomi 14 Pro is very similar (the difference between them being variable aperture in Xiaomi 14 Pro's main camera, reaching f/1.4 instead of f/1.6), so considering that Xiaomi 14 is half the price of the iPhone 15 Pro Max, honestly, it's an excelent sign it's being compared to it, and for the abysmal price cut, the differences in photography performance are acceptable really. @@lmje51 Interesting. I've read multiple (not just one, but multiple indeed) Xiaomi 14 Pro owners saying how disappointed they are with performance and claiming that the regular Xiaomi 14 shoots better photos in general. I don't know how much of it are software issues or hardware flaws, but I was surprised to see such feedbacks because Xiaomi 14 Pro should at least have the same performance, but in reality it seems that's not been the case. Maybe most or even all these issues are fixed eventually through OS updates, we'll see.

It looks like Xiaomi has reached a good quality in videos. I just don't understand why the still having issues with the front facing camera. Stabilization is at the top and comparable with iphones. Also the photos are good but they're very inconsistent. I hope they can solve the issues they have been carrying since

I hope so too. The hardware is of good quality, so there is a chance these kinds of issues can be solved gradually through software. Well, through GCam, if anything. I just don't like how the front camera aperture is of f/2.5 on this phone (it's f/1.9 on the iPhone and f/2.2 on the Samsung). Xiaomi managed to put a f/2.0 on the front camera of the Mi 9 Lite, the Mi 9T and the Civi 3, which are midrange phones, so I don't understand why it's so hard to keep it for flagships.

Sadly Sami Luo does a lot of settings false, spreading wrong information. Xiaomi wins at Exposure, Sharpness, natural Colors as well as on movies with stability and 8k30 filming is just outstanding. He should make some photo class and try to look at the settings or touch the screen. Xiaomi is super flexible so it is more for pro users. Calling Xiaomi a "piece of shit" shows that Sami seems to WANT to bash Xiaomi, he even does not touch the screen to set focus or exposure, sets the exposure to FaceTracking and then talks about sky, while iPhone darkens the face with non acceptable colors... If I had no Xiaomi 14 pro I would have to believe his words...

@@BplusGames I don't know this channel too much but I would assume he tries to compare the devices by using them "out of the box". Either way, I have researched a lot and Xiaomi 14 was the best choice that I could find in a "reasonable" price range (til around 650~ dollars), I haven't just made the purchase yet. So, is it possible to record good selfie videos without the overexposure blowing the sky out all white by tweaking the stock camera settings? I am really excited for this phone, this sky overblown issue and the mic that seems kind of electronic at times are the two things that I didn't like much.

@@LostJak he now often calls Xiaomi like "piece of shit" so I unfollowed this channel. Showing the exposure focus on the Face (which is a great feature of Xiaomi) as a "bug" while he never touches the sky or says the phone what he wants, why he does on the other phone (like he tells about settings too) is just bashing. He did not mention that the faces on iPhone in that situation just look unnatural and usable (because exposure is set wrong be phone). I watched all his videos and was excited because I was excited of seing new hardware - and I told him several times about that settings and wrong information about his videos - but he just does not care sharing the same wrong information on every video. Other videos show you how amazing the mics are and about the new level of exposure Xiaomi 14 pro brings for the first time. Just watch other vids :)

@BplusGames That's a shame. I didn't know iPhone video recording gets crappy when the exposure focus is on the face. It's good to know that this can be easily tweaked while recording on the Xiaomi 14 series by simply adjusting focus by touching the screen. Still, it would be really good if HDR worked while recording in Xiaomi 14... Does it? I don't have mine yet, so I really don't know. It is nice that the face is well presented when exposure focused on the Xiaomi, but it would also be nice if it's possible to have this coupled with a not blown out sky in the background. In a video comparison with iPhone 15 Pro Max and Samsung S23 Ultra, I could always hear the wind more in Xiaomi 14 Pro's mic unfortunately, but it's good to read that it is high quality! Maybe it was a settings matter or maybe it's getting updated with time. I'm just waiting to get my hands on my Xiaomi 14 :D

unfortunately Chinese Brands still year after year trying to make people appear white at all costs, the more white the person the better it behaves because the software is tuned to check if your face is white enough and it raises the exposure till it detects your face is white enough, I am Latin American, not Black but definitely not European white and I have tested with my OPPO Find x6 Pro (Maybe you can do this test too), start filming your face with the front camera but covering your face with your hand, start reveling you face slowly and at some point it will detect its a face and raise the exposure till your skin looks white.

It's the same thing with other brands too. Heck even Samsung and Google is starting to pick up on this trend. They're just bright with almost perfect skin tone until you realise it's not. Android going for brighter skin tones is pretty weird this time around

Yeah it is sickening. One could argue that the software is more tuned to lighter skin tones, which, if the brand operates in a society where that's the majority, it's somewhat understandable yet unfortunate that it isn't tuned for other tones aswell. I think the real problem arises when it's on purpose - I've seen phones where the beautifying filter always makes the person look with a lighter skin tone. Sometimes the person will look even green-ish because "whiter is better no matter what". I just wish stock camera would be ready for a variety of skin tones, and no striving for a particular tone in any filter please thank you. It's plagued in chinese phones though, like you said.

Nah it's just tuned to make faces whiter which is what a lot Asians and myself would also prefer. It's not to do with racism or anything it's just our preferences just like how you guys tan to make yourself darker

@@Rocky_4477 That´s not the point, the point is: A Camera should reflect reality! not try to make peoples faces whatever they want. If you want beauty effects or whatever whitening you like this should be an option to turn it on, and not a camera default that cant even be turned off. This is forced that it blows out the skys just to make your face white, its just overexposing a video for no reason at all.

Me, personally, I like me and my friends to look in selfies the way we look, no matter the tones. I don't even enjoy Instagram filters. So to each their own really

@@kevinortega678 Xiaomi compared the light hunter to the IMX989 saying it had way more dinamic range, 13.5ev on light hunter and 10.5ev on IMX989 is not just a matter of the aperture. but its a ominivision sensor, we dont know how good Ominivion tech is compared to Sony.

again at 03:19 you are talking about the wrong thing - Xiaomi 14 pro does the perfect thing and sets the exposure to the Face, while iPhone is not able to do so so the face is much too dark. If you want more sky you cen set the exposure from Face Focus to FullScreen in Xiaomi Options - you can also just touch the sky to move the focus. At all it is nice that iPhone is nearly as good as Xiaomi. How much cheaper is iPhone pro max than Xiaomi 14 pro in China? 300$ ?

Bruh iphone have better hdr and have nice skin color but on xiaomi lost detail looks like banana and over exposed and yeah you can tap the sky but you will end up in super dark subject on front than the iphone is very nice

The iPhones really improved this year with their 15 series. I am a bit disappointed by the Xiaomi 14 Pro. In my camera tests (I have the regular and Pro version here) the 14 wins against the 14 Pro. The f/1.4 is pretty soft and for some reason Xiaomi always chooses a very high ISO that leads to tons of noise in daylight situations already on the ultrawide and also tele cam. The main cam is quite a bit software and less detailed than on the 14. The only thing I really like about the Xiaomi's is the portrait mode. Its not the most detailed but the most "Leica" like styling. Anyway see my comparison with the Mate 60 Pro coming out pretty soon there I show the ranking of the Xiaomi 14 Pro (and 14 and all the other phones I tested).

Oh, this is good to know! I'm considering buying Xiaomi 14, not the 14 Pro. Could you share your insight about the speakers and mic quality? Do they differ between the two? I've seen complaints of too much wind noise and electronic sound (as seen at 3:00) in Xiaomi 14 Pro, but I don't know how Xiaomi 14 stands in that regard. I've also seen a video where Xiaomi 14 Pro's speakers sound a little bit louder than Xiaomi 14's too, but I don't know for sure. For now, what's been bothering me about the cameras is the blown out sky while outdoors in the front camera, and I've seen a video where Xiaomi 14 Pro's performance in low light in the main camera is much darker than iPhone 15 Pro Max's, but only in this video specifically. Regarding these issues though, hopefully they can be solved in software, at least through GCam.

@@LostJak SamiLuo sadly never checks the settings. That is why he has exposure issues and wind problems. If you love to take photos and videos you should explore all the detailed settings where Xiaomi really shines!! As a professional I can tell you Xiaomi 14 pro is amazing for taking photos but even better in filming. 8k30 has INSANE Quality too!!

I have owned a Mi 9 Lite for the last 4 years, and, even though it always had an excellent battery and camera specially for its price, the batery has taken a toll this last year. So I've been researching which new phone to get and Xiaomi 14 has gotten my attention the most (Xiaomi Civi 3 being in second place, with its awesome front camera). I do love to take photos and videos, so I feel relieved that most of these issues can be solved through the settings!

On day light photography the xiaomi seems to be warmer the the iPhone whice personally i don't really like it that much tho it's not consistent but it's mostly warmer. on the portrait side there's that beauty affect while the iphone going for a natural look with details on the face tho sometimes the contrast can be high. on the selfie again beauty affect on the xiiaomi while iPhone more natural with a better details. night photography i don't think there's a clear winner because sometimes the xiaomi control the noise and highlights better and sometimes the iPhone is sharper with a better exposure. Videos apart from the selfie whice iPhone is better i think that there's not much of different Xiaomi slightly more vivid with the colors, it's nice to see a 4k selfie as well. Great video

What a waste cinematic video on all phones. No proper edge detection, people get this video for the price they pay to iPhone better to buy a camera for the price, In vivo X 90 pro cam in pro mode can shoot 4k 60 fps with manually controlling and shifting focus , the Bokeh came out real like dslr with top notch edge detection even at night with little light. ( Yeah the cinematic is limited to 1080 @30 , that's why tried in pro mode) Cannot imagine where vivo will be in next 5 years.

You are judging the Xiaomi camera unfairly. Let's look at some points, the device has literally just been launched and is still undergoing software improvements. Just like what happened with the S23U, totally normal. Another point is that in the Global version we have some differences in the software, mainly in relation to people's colors. typical of chinese made smartphones. Their over reliant of hardware but lacks software optimization to back it up. This the reason why regardless how iphone/pixel/galaxy S series doesnt have the best and greatest hardware, they still outshine the chinese made phones.
