Today, I will unbox, setup, and perform a full review of the Xiaomi Redmi AX5 Wi-Fi 6 Router. I will conduct multiple speed tests and range tests to compare it with the Xiaomi Mi Router AX1800. In the video, I will check if the Redmi AX5 has the Mesh networking feature out of the box. The specifications of the AX5 and AX1800 are very similar to each other and are also similarly priced. Did you try if the ax1800 global firmware works with your ax1800? Ax1800 global looks like the Redmi unit but I prefer the China ax1800 shape.

Great video thx! Is the router interface managed by windows web interface directly with ip address (example: 192.168.1.100 ...) and not by the application or through the xiaomi servers? thx

Yes you can access the web interface at 192.168.31.1. However the interface is only in Chinese language right now. We have to wait for the English ROM. Thanks.

Thank you for your comment. Yes I checked WPA3, it works. I'll show it in my next video comparing Huawei AX3 Pro vs Mi AX1800 vs Redmi AX5. WiFi6 routers do have compatibility with older protocols. But if you have a very old device, there is an option in the WiFi Settings to switch to WiFi5 only. For your case, in the specs it says it supports 802.11n, but I haven't tested it. I'm guessing it will work. Thanks.

@@scualos The Redmi AX5 didn't make me to say woow. Actually, my Xiaomi AC2100 was faster, which I sold. Well, I would go for the Xiaomi Ax1800.

No, its not released yet. Xiaomi did not release the Int FW of Mi AX1800 till now.

Both are very similar in performance, but I like the cooling of AX1800 better, not that AX5 is over heating. However, if you need a wall mount, you can go for AX5, it has wall mounting points and I think the cooling will also improve if it's vertical. Very hard to choose one. Thanks.

I have tried it. It says failed to verify firmware after I tried to upload the AX1800 file. I guess they have some version/device check. So it doesn't work. Thanks.

Thank you for your review. Please suggests things i might be doin wrong with my setup. I cant get the router mode to work... It says dns problem, for a standard telco modem is there a setting i should change!? My prev mi router 3 this didnt happen. Thank you Wifi extender mode i got to work easily but a drop in speed of about 25-40%. Also strange in this relay mode only the 2.4gh is wifi6. Change wpa settings etc i couldnt find a way to make 5ghz wifi6 too

Your ISP provides you with a LAN cable with internet or you have a modem? Do you have any login to access your internet? There shouldn't be a problem if Mi Router 3 already worked for you. I'm not sure of the problem. Have you tried the reset button to reset the router and set it up again? If the MiWiFi app is having problem, you can also try web interface, go to miwifi.com after connecting to your Redmi AX5 router. You can check it and let me know. Thanks.

@@DSmartLife modem-router pldt isp here in the Philippines. Tried all the usual reset stuff. Im researching if there is a conflict in the dns/ip wan ipv4 o 6 stuff setting on the modem. And i also given up on the miwifi app, after click setuo modem it just displays those gears. That led me to just do a wifi extender mode direct from the modem-router. I didnt even have to disable source dhcp server. It kinda did all connections by itself. But thats secondary now because i hsve internet for the meantime. My most pressing concern is why at wifi extender mode only the 2.4gh is wifi6. The 5ghz is just wifi5. Thanks

Please check if you have turned on the WiFi 5 compatibility mode in the Router settings. If so then, I think it will turn into WiFi 5. Thanks.

@@DSmartLife yup mu-mimo and wifi6 both ON. on repeater mode it show wifi6 on or off, instead of wifi5 compatibilty switch at normal router mode. Will dig thru the isp modem settings then reset both modem and ax5 to try to get the router mode working. Thanks

Got it to work on router mode by reflashing firmware with cable. The first time was i updated it in extender mode via the web interface, i guess something broke. After reflash the router worked instantly. Its really a giant leap from mi router 3.

No there is not much difference between the two. The AX1800 runs cool and the AX5 is a little warm on touch but I think I can feel the warmth as it is has a lot of ventilation on the cover. If we wall mount it vertically, I think it will also become cool. Thanks.

I want to buy 2 or 3 devices for my home do you recomend 3 AX1800 or 1 AX3600 and 2 AX1800? What is your recomendation?

It really depends on your house structure. For example, if you want to cover multiple floors, you may want to go for at least 1 AX3600 as the main router with AX1800s in a mesh. Otherwise only AX1800s in a mesh will also do I think. But if you plan to have a wired connection between the routers, then I think any will be fine. Thanks.

Yes you can set it in the Mobile App. Go to Toolbox->More Tools->QoS. You can set the Bandwidth and also the resource allocation priority, like game first or video first or Auto allocation etc. Thanks.

After you reset the router, you need to setup the router again. When you set it up, you will have to enter new the WiFi and the administrator passwords by yourself. There is no default password. Thanks.

AX3 supports 160MHz that can go upto 3000mbps but I like the Redmi's Qualcomm processor better. It's hard to choose. But it really depends on your existing ecosystem and future plans like If you want to setup mesh later on. If you buy one brand, you have to stick to it for mesh compatibility. So you have to think and choose. Let me know. Thanks.

There is no English Firmware right now. The Mobile App is English. But the web interface is in Chinese. You can set up using the App and access the translated web interface using Google translator if you need. Thanks.

Yes it does have VPN support with PPTP and L2TP services. And also have support for DDNS services like DynDNS or no-ip etc. However these features need the Web Interface, which can be accessed at 192.168.31.1 and it's currently only in Chinese language. Can use Google translator but we have to wait for the English Firmware. Thanks.

AX3 supports 160MHz that can go upto 3000mbps. But I like the AX1800/AX5 Qualcomm processor better and they are mesh compatible. Overview: AX1800: Best cooling Performance, 5 cores AX5: Cooling is ok and wall mountable, 5 cores AX3: 160Mhz 3000Mbps, dual core, heats up at the bottom It's hard to choose. But it really depends on your existing ecosystem and future plans like If you want to setup mesh later on. If you buy one brand, you have to stick to it for mesh compatibility. The major differences compared to AX3 Pro are in CPU, RAM, Signal Amplifier, NFC etc. But The antennas seems to be the same. And I tested AX3 Pro and the 5GHz coverage was good. But I didnt test AX3. However, there is a teardown comparison of these two versions here: www.acwifi.net/9665.html. It shows 2 external and 1 hidden 5G antennas in AX3. Please check it. It is in Chinese, so please use translate. I am guessing, the comment in the phonetalsk website mean, 5G signal amplifier. AX3 has 2.4G signal amplifier but no 5G. AX3 Pro has both. Thanks.
