Nice video. If you want to use this camera in a drone or plane I would suggest to take a look into OpenHD digital open source fpv system. They dont list this camera as supported but they support other Infiray cameras and they are very active so probably they would make the configuration for this camera.

probably should have a look at open IPC fpv , its made some massive strides recently though its not as flexible as openHD

@@notsogood4321 one of the guy who runs it (mario), is a nutjob fyi just beware.. he's hijacked the old openhd group and banned other admins then throws false accusations that way. I'm spiteful of him banning me after I called out his BS and actions, of it so can't recommend openipc just based on that 😅

thermal cams are right in the CO2 laser wavelength about 10µm those leds are 808.. maybe 1064nm unfourtainly the app doesnt properly record 25hz even tho the camera provides it. on PC it just registers as a webcam so no special software required to use it, except when you want to change color palette etc.

Yeah I think the phone just goes as fast as it can keep up with, so a faster phone CPU would do better. It could probably record the raw stream from the camera at full speed, but not after scaling and re-coloring, and adding text overlays etc.

There's a guy who has a channel I'm subbed to and he uses a camera like this to troubleshoot PCB boards to help find shorts. This thing is pretty cool. So to speak :)

For accurate temperatures, you might want to read up on "emissivity". This takes into account the surfaces you are scanning. My FLIR camera allows me to enter emissivities so you might find a similar setting on your Xinfrared P2. Here's the wikipedia link that has a list of emissivities for various materials: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emissivity

This was fascinating to watch, especially the bit with the shadows, really cool. On a separate note, you mentioned you had to re-record some audio because of wind noise. I only discovered this myself last week, but Adobe has a free AI audio tool thing that cleans up background noise in recordings etc, and it actually works surprisingly well. Might be something useful for you in future to save having to redo audio :)

Love this review because I've been debating buying this not for a professional use at all just to mess around with and this is one of the only videos I could find of someone using it outside.
@iforce2d

Yeah I noticed that too. There was only one video I could find where someone tried it outside, to see heat leaks around his doors and windows. I was also really curious to see how well these work at distance.

Fascinating video, fun demos. It's like having a new set of eyes to see a hidden world. To deal with the reflections (2:30), if your camera supports using lens filters, adding a circular polarizer can mask out the reflections. The trick being is the polarizer will need to be rotated to find best result. Aluminum is an amazing heat conducting material and likely you're just seeing the air temperature of the room, and your thermo reflections. (12:30, 15:20) For example if you place a thin sheet of aluminum foil in an oven at 150ºC (300ºF), opening the oven door, you can grab a an upturned corner and pick it up. (or view with thermo IR camera, to verify) The thin foil has little mass, and great conductivity ... folding over increases local mass and time for temperature to change. Placing a piece of kapton tape, or masking tape on the aluminum bar will help in reading a temperature. (or a painted surface) Regarding the foggy morning (16:50), water vapour in the air filters out IR. IR imagery is common on weather satellites for detecting height of cloud tops. Knowing that atmosphere cools with height, the IR temperature indicates top later. Temperate under the cloud is not observable. Pointing your camera up at clouds, you may be able to estimate the height of the cloud base. (temperature, typically drops 2ºC per 1000 feet, or per 300m). Knowing the dewpoint, is another way to estimate cloud height. The differences in IR with night camera at the end of video are likely related to shorter-IR and longer-IR wavelengths. Thermo IR imagers have a lens made of ruby to filter out visible and shorter-IR wavelengths. For more interesting visual experimentation try running hot/cold water into a sink with water of opposite temperature. Can see the mixing and circulation currents. This could be handy aid when mixing epoxy.

Nice camera. The reason for not seeing the IR LED ist the germanium lens, and the working principle of an infrared camera aka Microbolometer.

The edit mode on camera gallery does not work as temperature on same photo same spot is shown 30 degree different when you open pjoto for editing and place cross spot marker in edit mode. This bug is ignored by infiray.

Question: Can you use a normal optical cassegrain (reflector) lens with a thermal camera?
@marc_frank
@marc_frank 9 месяцев назад
no, normal glass is opaque to infrared light that is if the mirrors are second surface reflectors lenses for infrared cameras are made of germanium
@alexscarbro796
@alexscarbro796 9 месяцев назад
@@marc_frank indeed. Could such a reflector therefore work if the first surfaces were mirrored?
@marc_frank
@marc_frank 9 месяцев назад
@@alexscarbro796 i guess so it might even work somewhat if it was a second surface mirror when chris was standing in front of his window, his reflection was quite apparent but optics are normally developed specifically for a wavelength range and use case, if you want to do some infrared astronomy, there might be some focus issues and abberations i don't have any experience, just watched some hyugens optics videos using this camera in a telescope would probably be much cheaper than a dedicated infrared telescope and if you have a use for it other than this, it wouldn't hurt to try
@davidfurniss4648
@davidfurniss4648 9 месяцев назад
First surface mirrors are widely used for the mid infrared and focus all wavelengths the same. But as soon as a lens in used the lens material becomes critical. A zinc selenide or silicon lens may be needed.
