An excellent footage. Intriguing scenes are here & there! Courtship included! Great. Swordtails, platies and mollies, these tiny fishes are of some interest in terms of evolution/sexual selection. Thanks!
I had these as a young boy in the hobby. The ones I had were the ones with red in them. These are some of my favorite fish ever. I have not seen them in stores for over 20 years, sad.
@@piercecowley255 I wish they were available here! I live in California, USA. Quality livebearers are extremely hard to find here in fish stores. Most everything available is mass produced with inferior genetics. I have had limited success ordering off of Aquabid from other hobbyists. I have in fact ordered wild-type Vaiatus from a hobbyist in Hawaii but unfortunately the fish did not adapt to my hard water. These are amazing wild-type specimens.
@@rocket5557 I'm sorry, I hope you are able to find some quality livebearers, if you are lucky you might be able to go to a small fish store and see if they will order you some, I don't know if they will but sometimes lasts do that
thank you so much for this!!! Livebearers are my favourite fish, I come from Poland so it is problematic for me to see this, what you have filmed. Thank you again!!!!
Could be first time a human ever saw these. There’s new types being discovered all the time. It’s amazing how much is still not known about some of the warmest parts of the planet.
ohhh I suppose these little fish are released everywhere but I dunno how harmful they can be... In my country Mexico... they are released in order to eat and control the population of mosquitos.... you can find platies and guppies almost everywhere.... the video is awesome though...
Further to the swordtail that was pointed out, it appears as though there's a couple of barbs in the stream as well, though it's difficult to nail down the species.
it's not their natural habitat, it's actually Hong Kong, and these are central american fish, they were released over there either accidently or on purpose and they're an invasive species
The natural varieties are so beautiful. I wish there was more a focus on promoting the natural variety bloodlines instead of trying to breed into some really boring and uninteresting colors and patterns.
What do you call the platy fish with the yellow fin? I have never seen one before in my local pet shop where I buy my platy fish. It's fun to see the fishes you have in the fish rank at home in their real habitat.
Interessante distinção complicada, não dá pra se ter certeza absoluta, mais parece mesmo que é maculatos, fiquri em duvida se era alguns poecilideos do tipo velifera mexicana!
Very nice video! I was just wondering, what is the difference between the variatus and the maculatus? I bought some variatus thinking they were just some rare/unique run of the mill platy for a cheap price. Now that I know the difference between the too, what is the real difference? I know i know im gonna get hybrids, but I'm living in North Dakota so if they get loose they wont make it far.
