I received a BNF early release with no instructions and none were available for download. I immediately tried the K120 settings but they were not correct so tried the X350 3D quad but 3D mode was not correct. After 7 or 8 flights inside I arrived at these settings that feel the best for me.
If you set up as per this video you will have very mild 6G mode with self level and 3G mode will feel like rate mode and keep the angle of tilt while you throttle up. Dual rates are set as switch pulled down pretty much maxed out which is still quite tame, especially the very sedate yaw.
3D switch will make your mid stick thottle the zero point where above is positive pitch up and below is negative pitch. Full 3D mode like a KungFu FC or CP heli so props will not stop spinning when you drop the throttle, they will just spin 100% in reverse and suck you into the ground. Basically you have half the stick resolution for each motor direction.
Taking off can be done in any mode you like but switching from normal to 3D mode in flight requires you are climbing or the change in pitch curves will cause a slight drop. This could be mixed out with a different throttle curve but I did not like the feel of it in normal mode if so. I prefer to bind it with TH active and then pull forwards all teh switches to put it in high rates, 3G mode and 3D mode and then put the throttle around centre or just above and release TH. Providing you are close to centre either side, the props will spin but not enough to lift it. Now you're good to fly and crash.
There is no arming sequence so the throttle hold switch is your safety and disarm, personally I love this as it's perfect for training that as muscle memory and doing that over grass outside will take literally endless crashes if you cut power before you hit something.
Check my previous video to see what punishment this quad can take and keep on flipping. Can't recommend it enough for under £24 posted. I'd say buy 2 but I can't kill it so just get lots of props.

went to the park today to try out your rates got tired of flying in my living room and banging against the ceiling floor and walls. I was pleased I was able to fly 3D, not well but I did. baby steps until I can do it with my XK x350. one thing I noticed with the XK X100 is it did not like some aftermarket batteries (Traxxas 3.4v 240mah)and a 380mah , it would not fly at all. I'm going to try a jjrc 220mah and see if that works. otherwise I'll just order some extra OEM lipos
@MicroRCFiend
@MicroRCFiend 7 лет назад
I think the nanotech 300mah 45 - 90C 1s lipos are the best power to weight ratio I have found. Polarity needs switching and my x100 is too tired to even take off but anything else I feed them to come alive such as K100, K110, QX micros etc The 220 might even work better is super light though, any other 300 or larger I tried was not worth it over the stock lipo.

MicroRCFiend I will order a couple and test em, thanks. I'm still dumbfounded as to why the quad reacted the way it did with those other batteries ,I'm wondering if it was the pressure of squeezing a larger battery in there that may have had the FC reacting Strangely. I just don't know

+Full Metal Heli Thank you. I'd much rather crash and laugh at the camera than talk to it but the XK stuff is a bit funky and people kept asking. No end points, pitch curves for quads, opposite expo, no visual curves and no model names. Love the gimbals go super low in tension and still remain slop free, much better than a toy grade setup.

Hello, nice video. I'm just starting with theese micro quads and acro mode so it is quite hard for me to set this little guy up with my futaba t8j, if there's any chance that you will make video on how to set up t8j, I mean sth for total beginner from scratch to get all the modes you have on x6 or maybe some link to such tutorial?

I do not have that transmitter or any experience with Futaba however there are several RCGroups members that use XK products on Futaba transmitters. I would direct you to ask in these threads for guidance. Different models but same settings. Something is wrong with that throttle curve in idle up. If it drops to 10 in the center it is going to drop like a brick.
@MicroRCFiend
@MicroRCFiend 8 лет назад
No, if you fly it with X252 or X350 curves, it will work as they do, believe me I tried them both several times until I figured out what was up. The X100 is an exception and has mixing in the FC already. It's a horrible decision but I think it was so it could be flown with that tiny TX it's sold with and bring the RTF cost down. I was sent an early release BNF with no instructions and had to work this out myself since there was no info out at the time or manual downloadable.

Hi, it's me again , how are you/ , well I just got my my X100 took 4 weeks to arrive instead of 7-days , and wow it's not very often you get to buy something that actually exceeds your expectations, loved flying today. I copied nearly all of your setting onto my x7 transmitter for my xk251, but the only one setting i'm not sure where to put it is the 3d switch on the x7 it has a switch on the left next to the red button which is used for rattitude mode , when i flicked the switch today it put it in acro mode but was very hard to fly, you called it in idle up mode where your setting were like 100,75,10,75,100, i couldn't make out on screen was that in p curve or t curve i think it was one of them , basically how do i set that up,will it be on the rattitude switch ? sorry it's so long winded ? update on my fpv goggle battery situation , still waiting for the battery to arrive to see if it is just the battery that is causing the low battery sound after 20 second flight if you remember our chat? thanks again for your support. cheers Nige

Hey, good thanks - as usual tied to the bench trying to sort some naughty quads out. Good to hear it found you eventually - been at least a year flown it since the motors couldn't carry it anymore and another 6 months before that it was set up. What's the time code of the bit that isn't clear? I do remember X100 seems to have mixing in the flight controller, presumably because it was to work with the tiny TX they make as a RTF which was limited on switches but just a guess. Not sure if this meant just idle up was different to other models but I can't advise on how well an X251 model will or won't work. All know is these setting in this video worked great and happy to elaborate on any parts of the video that are not clear.
@333ingee
@333ingee 7 лет назад
Hi, time code is from 2:09 to 2:33 the screen is too bright to read , so if i flick down my rattitude switch where do i put the numbers in am ii right or not were those number for the either the p curve or t curve, thanks again for replying, have you got any reviews coming soon?
@MicroRCFiend
@MicroRCFiend 7 лет назад
Ok, totally with you now, thanks. Yes idle up/3D mode is indeed as you wrote as yes that is the pitch curve. 100,75,10,75,100 - It doesn't seem at all natural for pitch curves due to the internal mixing on the quad but it does work. It's not set in stone though, just what felt good to my thumbs without any manual available and recommended starting point. Looking now I still can't see a manual to download. I had considered getting it back up in the air again but it's £10 for a set of 7mm motors which I keep putting towards components for builds. Yeah quite a few reviews in progress plus a few on the way and several 5" builds too - the only reason i'm barely getting 1 video up each week is the miserable weather dictating when I can fly. Couple small giveaways in amongst there too.
@333ingee

Ok thanks, weather was really good today, and supposed to be good on Friday, also I bought a wizard 220 had my 2nd flight today only los and no working goggles as you know, trying to learn acro on these sims, like learning to fly all over again, tough for me, well look forward to getting notifications on your reviews to come, cheers.

I got this quad, how do I make it spin around (flip) prior to flying inverted? as you said you hit reverse and it will just thrust down to the ground, you need a method to rotate it like half a 3d flip, then go into reverse motor for inverted flight? how do I do it?
@MicroRCFiend
@MicroRCFiend 4 года назад
What transmitter are you using and if you hold it in your hand do you have any position on the throttle where it will switch the motor direction or do motors only spin one way currently?
@robertkelly5515
@robertkelly5515 4 года назад
@@MicroRCFiend I am using the X6 transmitter, the throttle only goes one direction, until I flick left lower switch, then Reverse motors but that just shoots it at the ground, the upper left switch shoots it upwards (normal thrust direction)
@MicroRCFiend
@MicroRCFiend 4 года назад
@@robertkelly5515 For true 3D and flying/hovering inverted it needs to be setup like a collective pitch heli so the switch point for motor direction is dead centre of the throttle stick. Above this will be only positive throttle and below this will be only reversed rotation. A basic quad or heli model setup such as K110 and X252 won't work as XK actually out some mixing into the X100 FC - I presume this was so they could bundle it with the tiny X4 TX that doesn't have and real flight mode switches or ability to change curves. The good news is if you are using the X6, I made a setup video back in 2016 that covers how to set that up. Have a look at this one: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-aQUg2HRvJDY.html&ab_channel=MicroRCFiend There's also a detailed written review on this one should you be interested: www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?2643937-XK-X100-3D-Micro-Quad-Review-Gearbest#post34507128
@MicroRCFiend
@MicroRCFiend 4 года назад
@@robertkelly5515 Hey Robert, I was answering this from the message window so didn't click you were actually asking this question from the setup video I just linked. So if you have it setup exactly as per this video then your 3D mode is now setup to the flight mode switch already. Because there's no point in the throttle that the motors actually stop totally in 3D mode, it's best to arm the quad while 3D mode is already active. This now means that you only have half of the throttle stick for each rotation direction rather than the full throttle stick throw as you do in normal mode. So if it's setup as per this video and 3D mode is indeed active, you need to put the throttle stick just above centre and arm. Flipping requires a short positive pitch punch upwards from centre throttle stick and then reducing back down to just above centre as you push the right stick the direction you want to flip to inverted. Only once the quad is past the knife edge position half way between upright and inverted should you gently start to feed in some reverse rotation by lowering the throttle below mode stick/50%. Once it's actually inverted you can't input any throttle above 50% and your hover position will be around 40% or even a touch lower. Remember you only have half of this throttle stick throw to work with. Unlike a CP heli, there's zero finesse around centre stick so you don't want to be hanging around exactly 50% throttle at any time other than transitioning through it to switch motor directions. Because power is limited, this does very much require some practice to get the timing and amount of throttle needed right to do a controlled flip to inverted and has to be almost pre-emptive. You can of course take off with the quad already inverted and flip back to upright instead which will probably be much easier at first as you are finishing in upright hover that should be much more familiar. Here's a short video I made that shows how to take off gently with this quad that I think should help: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE--c7zBHGbaos.html&feature=emb_title&ab_channel=MicroRCFiend

maybe i missed it but i didnt actually see where you tell use how to bind it ....ok you press the 2 button at start, then what? you ran thru expo, d/r and t-curve etc, but thats all pointless unless the quad is actually bound first .....i pressed those 2 buttons but quad still isnt bound ....what do i need to do in that section after pressing both button? Is there a button i also need to press on the X100 just like is needed to bind a new trans to the X251?

oh btw i wanted to ask if the X100 could be bound to an X7 trans (from the X251 quad) ....i used an XK K100 Helicopter X6 trans to bind the X100 but im assumin by rights both might work - X6 and X7 trans?
@MicroRCFiend
@MicroRCFiend 8 лет назад
The X7 is just an X6 with one of the empty channels (an empty socket on the tx board) populated with a switch. You can add a switch to the X6 and have X7 functionality. Those switches will be detected in phoenix sim too. Both the X100 and X251 are S-FHSS and will work on both of these transmitters providing you bind first or course. Mine cam with an x7 which I used for half a dozen flights or so then moved it across to my x6 as the x350, x110, x120 and x100 are all bound to it. I'm fairly sure the small tx option they sell it with will not bind with the other xk stuff like the x250 brushed quad uses a small tx. I think the x100 small option is a new S-FHSS option but have not flown it. I did request one to compare but not received anything.

Were these the settings that you learned 3D on? Also, do you know if there is much of a difference between the X6 and X7 controller?
@MicroRCFiend
@MicroRCFiend 7 лет назад
Yes same settings i used in all my X100 videos with only expo tweaked occasionally to make it more lively at centre. Strictly speaking I learned 3D on walkera mini cp heli but this is probably a much more robust and cheaper too. The X7 is identical to an X6 inside apart from it has one more socket populated for the extra button. You can add 2 extra channels to the X6 inside and make it and X8 with no software upgrades - they are just recognised in the sim but don't know any receivers that are available.

Thanks. I'm trying to get the X7 or Real Flight controller to talk nice with FPV Freerider with no success yet. I got so bummed because FPV looks like the perfect simulator to work into 3d that I ordered a Flysky I know will work. My first X100 didn't last me long as it became a tree ornament in my neighbor's yard after I lost control . I thought I was doing pretty good but all of a sudden it was rising and directly over his house with panic and orientation issues striking. I thought I had cleared the tree when I hit the lock but no. In another month when the leaves come down I'll probably find out exactly where it ended up. I'm just trying to work up to 3d a bit at a time now. Once the gyro setting gets around 40 on the x7, I get a bit shaky. Glad this little thing is hardy.
@MicroRCFiend
@MicroRCFiend 7 лет назад
If you plan to fly 3D LoS then i'd absolutely practice in the same way but if you wish to fly 3D FPV then freerider will work fine for that. Learning LoS 3D will help your 3D FPV but it doesn't work the other way round so well. Freerider LoS is terrible though, fairly unusable in my opinion. I had zero luck making a and 3.5mm jack PPM out transmitter work with freerider and I tried several. Same route you decided and just used my FSi6 with cheapy USB dongle instead. If you haven't tried the 'recharged' version of freerider, it's worth trying the free demo - I liked it enough to grab a copy and it's a nice upgrade. For LoS 3D practice my go to is Phoenix 5 as it has a good online feature to fly with others and you'll find helis far easier to keep visual orientation because there's only 1 axis of symmetry plus a long tail or course rather than with and more capable of finessing moves and transitions.

+Sergio Silva You have more than one model memory but they are not named only numbers. Press both buttons on the left hand side to enter menu to change model number 'MDL. Sel' will flash, then push button on the right to enter it and scroll wheel to select numbers. I can fly X350, K120, K110, all with different model number entries. Default if you only have one will be called '0', 2nd is named '1', 3rd is named '2'. I know, weird. The lack of being able to enter proper model names is daft and we also have no endpoints which is wierd but does not stop perfect calibration of a model. The gimbals are awesome and RC link soild, i;'d rather than then names allowed but crap TX :)

A question , would it be easier if I loosen the screw on the backside so the left stick will also spring centre? That's if I only want to fly 3d. Mine will arrive in a few hours, already set everything the same as shown in your video and can't wait to fly it.
@MicroRCFiend
@MicroRCFiend 8 лет назад
There's no spring on the throttle to enable, that screw will loosen or tighten the ratchet for throttle. Honestly I would stay well clear from a sprung throttle/collective totally for 3D, it will likely force bad habits. Time practicing using Throttle Hold before you crash under power will be much more useful, eventually you want to be able to hit TH as soon as you start to lose control. This drone will crash under its own weight again and again but if you crash with power on, that may be a different story. Good luck, it's a really fun quad
@audiogek
@audiogek 8 лет назад
Clear! I'll stay away from a sprung throttle. Thanks! First I have to learn full acro anyway, 3d will come next. But I have to say, If I turn one of the screws I really do get a sprung throttle. Guess the x7 tx differs from the x6 on that point.
@MicroRCFiend
@MicroRCFiend 8 лет назад
audiogek They are the same Tx, only the X7 has an extra socket populated with a latching switch. I just tried my X7 again and the two screws under rubber lugs are my stick tension only, no spring on the left hand stick throttle at all. Are you meaning internally you are accessing a screw? www.flickr.com/photos/136785172@N02/24437360835/in/album-72157666820126386/ If I swapped gimbals from left to right I would be able to have a sprung throttle but yaw would be also. Even a ratchet on throttle is annoying to me, personally I like just enough tension on that stick to stop it moving when rotating the TX in the air. If making circular movements, I fond it far easie rto do them accurately when not fighting he sticks. The X7 si really superb here and lets you go very low in stick tension without slop like Sprektrum, Taranis and Hitec I have tried and left. I can fly with them, I jsut don't enjoy using them. TH9x, X6, X7, Devo8s all go super low tension without slop around centre and the keep the spring tension fairly even across the full range too, many have stronger spring the further it is off centre and again, I'm really not find of this either. A sprung throttle would make you put opposite inputs in to normal just to fight the spring. There's no deadspot in the middle, it's one way or the other so you won't be sitting the throttle at dead centre anyway, only passing it to the two hover positions slightly off centre now. It's worth adding this is just my advice and although 99% of heli pilots would probably agree about the sprung throttle. Here's one excellent pilot who only uses a sprung throttle. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-gMKShgHD8uA.html
@audiogek
@audiogek 8 лет назад
Alright...that's good to know. This is my first hobbygrade tx so it's nice to know when I'm going for a racequad it's probably better to stick with this one and buy a futaba compatible flightcontroller/rx. About the sprung thottle, I get what you're saying, especially the bad habbit part, thanks again. And sorry, but I just turned the screws behind the rubber on the back of my x7 (not the inside) and there's really a spring under my left stick now. It's wise to take your advise if I see your flying skills so I won't leave it like this ;-) If you want to see it I could make a short video showing it but with 0.06mbit upload it's a bit of a problem.
@MicroRCFiend
@MicroRCFiend 8 лет назад
audiogek Sure yeah i'd like to see if it's not a hassle. Maybe i'm missing something basic, certainly wouldn't be the first time :) These are just my preferences of course, if you look at lots of actual pro pilots, there's tons of different techniques even within the same thumb or pinch styles. Tariq uses a feather touch with thumbs, Bert presses down super hard with thumbs and at least 6 out of the top 10 heli pilots pinch, a couple only pinch on the right side. It's really whatever works for you personally, some people even invert the collective so i's like a real heli and that doesn't hold them back. Take a look at Curtis Youngblood, he is the creator of piroflips back when giros were junk and has rudder on a twisty cyclic stick. I've even seen a video of a guy with one arm who flew a heli with a pressure pad in his mouth, flew better than half the pilots at my heli field :)

Trevor Crouch Yeah, if you do a video clearly they will sort you out if there's an issue. Drop me a link too if you do make one and i'll go over the procedure again with mine just to make sure. Can you make a new model entry for any other xk stuff you have and bind to a new model with that ok?
@trevorc6793
@trevorc6793 8 лет назад
Just 'rebound' my x251 into slot '2', worked without a hitch?
@MicroRCFiend
@MicroRCFiend 8 лет назад
Trevor Crouch Ok, so that rules out TX and procedure issues most likely. From that info, it sounds like perhaps the x100 is faulty by the law of elimination. If it powers on then you might be able to get it to work if you go over the solder points for the bind button. I'd make the video first for the replacement and try that once accepted rather than first though. Bad luck if so but hey at least you have a set of spare motors and lipo and props for when they do post you another if so. My motors are pooped but it's £10 for new ones plus I need props so isn't right the top of my to buy list right now.

When in 3D mode i find my quad very very unstable and un-flyable. Any helpful tips.
@MicroRCFiend
@MicroRCFiend 8 лет назад
If the quad is unstable then it's going to be tough to fly. If you mean flying inverted is tough then that's only going to be resolved with lots of stick time. Unless you perhaps mean it's only unstable while inverted on or even when 3d mode is active but flying upright?
@UlisesBatalla
@UlisesBatalla 8 лет назад
OK what I mean is, when upright, and I turn off the 3/6G switch the quad is almost un-flyable. it wobbles and you have to stay on the sticks till you loose control and kill the motors. There is a tremendous difference between 3 and 6G. If you begin to dial in some gyro, then you can not flip it over to invert easily. I can fly my XK K120 Heli inverted just fine, this quad is very unpredictable in 3g mode. you fine yourself over compensating to just keep it in the air even upright.
@MicroRCFiend
@MicroRCFiend 8 лет назад
All you have is rates, expo and gyro. 3G is rate mode at 0 gyro and will gently level at 30, above that becomes quiet strong self level. The fact that you say you can flip your k120 but not this means something doesn't add up to me. If your craft is unstable something is wrong. If it's too twitchy to fly then lower rates and add negative expo to soften up the centre on channel 1 and 2. Positive expo will make it super twitchy if you put more than 30 or so on. If you have lots of motor slop, there's a video in the X100 playlist that shows how to fix that in a few mins really easily and cheaply. If you are using the setting provided in this video then I don't know what to say apart from can you make a video? I'd really need to see it beyond random guesses at this point.

Thank you. I have been watching other videos of folks using the stock radio that you can get X4 radio and I notice that the their quads are somewhat stable even in 3d mode. So i have to try the expo method.

Ulises Batalla I'd consider stable/unstable different from just twitchy. If the quad is making moves you don't input, i'd consider that unstable. If you still have issues and can make a video I should be able to help more

I can't see to stop mine from leaning to the right when I flip it into 3G mode, and it won't flip over. I'm using the rates in this video, any help would be great.

Sounds like you are still in 6G mode if it will not flip and has any self level happening but just a guess. What value is your gyro at when it won't flip for you? Have you done 6G calibration?

MicroRCFiend no self leveling, just drifts hard to the right when I flip the switch. I've been flying my XK X350 for close to a year now, just afraid to try all of the 3D flying with such a fragile frame so I bought the x100. I'm unsure what the gyro setting is at, but I did use all of your settings in the video if that helps. I would have to grab my radio and confirm gyro setting.

MicroRCFiend ps I have not done the 6G calibration for this quad , I have no issues in 6G and it flies great until I flip the 3G/6G switch. I didn't think it needed calibration.

Yes check it because if you do not have it low enough it will not be 6G. X100 seems to work like sliding scale so 0 is no self level and 100 is strong self level with full range between or at least my early version is like that.SO if you have value of 1 in gyro I think it will still level slowly over time. If you put the quad at an angle and then only add throttle and watch it should either stay at that angle and move across the field or it will slowly level itself over time. X350 works different where 41 or 42 was change point between 3G and 6G mode so was more like a switch. If it still leans when gyro on TX is at zero then it is probably something mechanical/physical. If it only leans when gyro is not at zero I think it needs calibration. Obviously i'm just guessing because I can't see your TX or quad or flying

MicroRCFiend gyro is set to 50 in 6g and 20 in 3G going to set it to zero and see what happens

How did you swap your 3D and TH switches?

I just swapped the plugs for those switches inside, the wires are just long enough to reach without being stressed. flic.kr/p/DerRZv

Ahh, very nice. Also wanted to ask about the P. Curve settings. You're finding they have some effect? I was under the impression that P. Curve relates only to Collective Pitch Heli's - i.e. each value specifies the swash plate rotor angle at each of the 5 deflection points on the T. Curve - i.e. throttle stick at 0, 25%, 50%, 75% and 100% deflection. Thoughts?

dronebrulee Regarding Betaflight, Mikado Neo, HK mad cow and Moova 3D, yeah none of them use pitch curves. XK don't give you anything else to tweak but the TX settings but give you some tweak-ability so I presume this was the simplest way to implement both of those. The X100 curves don't work on the X252 or X350 either, it's odd and has some mixing in the FC, presumably so it can work with that tiny TX they bundle it with now that has no switches. I was lucky enough to receive an early pre retail release BNF and there were no instructions so made this as I tried X350 curves first and got nowhere. There's a manual available on the XK site last time I checked. There's still no mention of the X251 on there at all though, even after 2 versions of it. Odd
