The symbolism of Scott slowly turning and sounding like Magneto during the interview, while Magneto is coming across more as Xavier in Genosha *JUST PERFECT!!*
I haven’t been this shocked and heartbroken at an episode of tv since The Red Wedding in Game Of Thrones. I was in tears throughout the last 5 minutes. X-Men 97 is officially the best Marvel show ever made!
I was getting Red Wedding vibes from this as well. However, unlike the Red Wedding, I do think Cable will be able to change some of the events where the X-men are not there when the annihilation of Genosha happens.
It gets worse. Lenore Zann, Rogue's VA, a few weeks before recording this episode she lost her niece to cancer, and she channeled those feelings into the ending.
@@henryflores3459 no bro Rouge cheated on him and why everyone the comment section supporting her she is the one first break his heart and kissed another man in front of him haa 😒😒 what a love 🤢🤢😂😂
@@MICHAEL-devil Gambit literally says in the episode that they were never official, so she technically did not cheat on him there was no relationship there for her to cheat on. If you had a brain you would be dangerous.
BEST EPISODE OF MARVEL TELEVISION EVER! Seeing Nightcrawler return with his original voice actor from the original 90s series was awesome! I really liked the story they told here with Rouge and Gambit here now that Magneto has kind of upended their lives and relationship. The action in this episode was also incredible! Seeing Nightcrawler and Gambit use their powers was so cool and I gotta add that they were represented visually spectacularly. NOW THAT ENDING WAS ABSOLUTELY INSANE! Cable?? The "Remember it" moment was crazy! Magento??? I'm losing my mind!!! 1000000/10 episode!!!! I need more now!
that would be Loki season two finale.. i'd give this top ten though so far anyway .. everybody always says this is the best episode ever only because it's new.. but yeah, it's in the top ten so far in marvel ..
This episode had so many jaw dropping moments I couldn't believe. From Jean and Wolverine kissing,to Cyclops snapping on the reporter,to the reveal of Madeline and Cyclops's psychic Affair,to seeing Nightcrawler and Dazzler,Rogue and Gambit breaking up,Rogue and Magneto's dance and finally that final attack by the sentinels. This 1 episode surpassed the entire Fox Adaptation of the Xmen.
16:06 That is not Josh Brolin who voiced Cable. Cable's voice actor is the original voice actor of Gambit in the original animated series. The producers had him voice Cable.
The way it sounded made it feel like Josh Brolin as Cable and I thought the EXACT same thing until I saw the cast! I wonder if this series later on if will do the insane and have it in the multiverse even though it’s considered a continuation of the original series from the 90’s!
@@theideamaker2561 Speaking of multiverse I think I saw an image of the Watcher in the sky of Genosha. Don't know if this is the Watcher from What If series but if he is then there has to be something insane that is going to happen.
That’s exactly how the Genosha massacre went down in the comics…they even mixed in the Morlock Massacre from years earlier in there…whoever wrote this is taking me and a lot of others on an emotional roller coaster! Gambit being taken out was a head knocker! And notice as Rogue was holding Remy she was touching him skin to skin?. And hearing Rogue whimper in pain…one of THE toughest people, man or woman in the Marvel Universe…OMG!
Wow... I never expected Disney to pull off an episode like this. Even the What If episodes didn't hit this hard, mainly because the main universe was fine so character deaths didn't matter. This was like the red wedding episode of game of thrones.
I noticed the reference with Cyclops, Madelyn Pryor's psychic entanglement with Jean grey finding out, kinda like that whole drama with Cyclops, Jean, and Emma Frost from the comics. But this time, they switched it up with Madelyn instead of Emma. And Emma's knowing smirk? Total psychic power move, like she's got the inside scoop on everything
Hopefully not spoiling much, but Emma joins the X-Men like right after the genosha genocide in the comics. She survives because she develops a secondary mutation right at that moment.
I didn't cry but I was tense during the last 5 minutes, Erick speaking German, Rogue ready to destroy that sentinel and then Gambit sacrificing himself to destroy that huge robot. The music, the score, the dialogues and the acting, all was ON POINT!! This episode is top one of the season so far. I can't wait to watch the next one.
I feel the same way. I always knew Gambit was good but holy crap he’s my favorite character now. This episode showed how powerful he really is and selfless at that. Top tier episode
@@chicagobreeze7257 Gambit is crazy he has great character development and his powers are insane omega level he had them removed cuz he was scared of it and couldn't control it. His new sun form he killed Phoenix in iy
@@Nikolaj11 yes but the future is always changing because characters like Bishop and Cable always go back in time to change things so the future and characters in the future aren’t always set.
@@rayparker4231 Oh I see. I wonder how Bishop can then so confidently travel back, any number of things could mean the future he returns to are entirely different.
Whenever you see the silhouette of Uatu the Watcher, it's SERIOUS. A MOMENTOUS event is about to transpire. This is the most devastating episode in the history of the animated series, or all the Marvel 90s series.
Hell this was one of the most devastating events in the X-Men comics. It changed the status quo of the X-Men pretty much till House of M changed it again.
This is such a tonal shift from last episode, but absolutely impactful stuff. I thought it was a good choice to have Scott lose control during the interview as it sets up the later events of the decimation of Genosha. Mutants have to try and appease humans time and time again, yet they are never truly accepted as an equal sapient being. It was honestly quite hard to watch the attack on Genosha as it felt like a real terrorist attack. So many feels and emotions. And I also loved the Scott/Madelyne storyline as they deal with the loss of Nathan. I completely understood the “mind cheating.” They both lost a son and Scott knows for sure that Madelyne was the one who carried Nathan in her womb for nine months. He has a lot of pain from when his father abandoned him, and being forced to do that with his own son was very traumatic for him. I think that psychic cheating with Madelyne made so much sense and is an example of a deviation from the source material that actually feels earned and opens up interesting possibilities. It feels so at home given this story. On another note, Wolverine showed a lot of maturity by telling Jean that she “just forgot the rules for a sec.” He didn’t take advantage of her at all. Good stuff. I’m not big on a lot of romance drama because it usually seems cheap, but I actually thought it was handled well here. Everyone made sense as to why they had such turbulent romantic feelings to the point where it felt earned. The X-Men is very soap operatic, so I get that it needs to be done. I thought they handled it well enough to not be annoying. Watching Rogue’s journey from lamenting not being able to touch Gambit to kissing Magneto and realizing that “some things are deeper than skin” to holding Gambit’s lifeless body in her arms was soul crushing 😭. She ended up losing both of her paramours. And Magneto speaking german to Leech as they were about to die 😭😭😭 This is some of the best work that Marvel has put out and hopefully the MCU can handle the X-Men like this. Can’t wait for the next episode.
@@mrlogan-ut2te I hope so. I loved revolutionary Cyclops. It was such a dynamic turn for the character that felt sensible to me. Especially since everything from Morrison’s New X-Men, and particularly House of M, led to his development into revolutionary Cyclops. The mid to late 2000s were filled with Scott being super pragmatic with making more cold, calculated, hard decisions. I definitely felt those shades during his interview outburst.
The psychic thing with Madelyne happened with Psylocke. Might have happened with Emma Frost, also. Scott kept getting in trouble with telepaths with Jean being right there and catching him. lol
What's more, "hab keine angst" were likely Erik's parents' last words. He said it just like them - knowing full well what would happen to him and very probably Leech. All the strife and work and he's brought to grief by genocidal monsters all over again. Damn. Just damn.
What hit the most after G death and Rogues last words... Is that the screen goes black for few seconds with nothing but the ambient sound bass. Then it pops up low tone sad credits. The director of this episode is f amazing! 😢
X-MEN 97 is WAAAY BETTER than the original series. The upgraded 🎨 art and storytelling was true to the comics with the real life complexities and high stakes implemented. This episode tone was high drama and dead serious. Just EPIC. 😮😊 Really loved this show.
I love the way this show keeps me guessing and on the edge of my seat when I thought I knew what to expect. I do my hardest to avoid spoilers because I want to genuinely react in that moment as a fan because I feel I deserve that. This show has rewarded that approach.
16:07 That's actually the voice of Chris Potter, whom I couldn't recognize until he stopped yelling. He was the voice of Gambit in the original X-Men series.
So this means that Cable was the sand guy in Madelyn's vision in episode 1. This song was playing while she was using cerebro, and a man was saying sorry to her
One of the writers commented on this specific episode that they were just cooking up with this episode and we're not ready for the rest of the seaon..😨..now I'm a little scared..😟. Especially since I believe there doing 2 storylines E for extinction mixed with operation zero tolerance.
If you watch closely it also connects to Iron Man TAS with characters Wanda Maximoff and James Rhodes showing up at the party in Genosha. Then the scene between Scott, Jean, and Madelyne is a comic book cover art with Jean finding out Scott having affair with Madelyne where she is furious and Madelyne showing that evil smile.
You missed out on the cameo of Beau DeMayo the showrunner and writer for this series. He has a quick appearance during the destruction of Genosha by Master Mold voiced by Eric Bauza. You also had cameo of Nightcrawlers father Azazel during the whole dance floor scene at the party.
@@Brook11223 yes that’s mystique, in the og show she never revealed her true form to rogue. Rogue only finds out in the end of S1 that mystique was actually her mother the whole
I remember when Dustin mentioned how Master Mold in episode 1 was so easy to defeat lmaooo 🤣 I guess Master Mold T-1000 was in episode 5 and was taking out everything!! Omega level threat included!! 🤣
In the comic books the mass murder of mutants in ganocia is a fix point but the mutants who die isn't and just because someones dead doesn't mean they stay that way.
Even then the only reason the genosha mutants could be properly resurrected was a plam by scarlet witch 2 to 3 years into mutants having a go to death cheat code. So a bit more permanent.
Cable is actuality being voiced by Gambit's voice actor from the original series. Gambit and Jubilee are voiced by new voice actors who do a great job of sounding like the original actors.
I was glad to see the connect to mutants we know plus some new ones. Calisto, Sebastian Shaw, Banshee, Nightcrawler, Dazzle, Multiple Man, Leech, and 26:06 ofcourse Nathen Summers (Cable). It will be interesting to see who stays and where we go from here.
I will admit when I first watched this I saw the Watcher, but entirely forgot the one rule of seeing him. If the Watcher is looking, it's because something crazy is about to happen. Totally didn't see it coming. Broke my heart big time. Still get choked up watching people reacting.
Sentinels have three main categories of expansion and evolution. 1 - the master mold- an oversized sentinel that also doubles as a production factory of new sentinels. If raw elements aren't handy they can make new sentinels one by one rather than via a production line. 2- sentinels Mark 1 to mark?- standard sentinel soldier mold made up of mini fusion engines analyzing / adaptive programming and plated nano- adaptive segments that lets it change for whatever threats it's dealing with 3 - nimrod series- 10th Mark level sentinel series with instantaneous adaptive measures/also set with a self-diagnostic / self-repair set of directives that lets it heal from massive damage. 4- wild sentinels- an offshoot of the original Master mold sentinel line their set adaptive measures were simply modified from "upgrade and adapt" to "make do with immediate environmental advantages". Whereas all sentinels Mark 1 and on all have the same size and weight ratios, wild sentinels rarely meet each other's standards, sometimes only displaying the bare basics of looking similar to a sentinel except that in these cases that are mostly razors, lasers, guns and bombs. They can be as small as nano sentinels or as big as an aircraft carrier and just because they don't look like the Mark sentinels or Nimrod or the master mold it makes them in no way any less dangerous; possibly more so in fact.
The Watcher is all seeing and knowing but couldn't intervene. I feel Jeffrey Wright could voice him somewhere down the line. Also this looks like it will connect again to Lazarus rising from X-Men TAS during the battle with Apocolypse but introduce maybe another threat in the form of another mutant maybe Cassandra Nova. The way this augmented version of Master Mold was so indestructible says it can withstand Mutant attacks. Also Chris Potter now voices Cable instead of Gambit says he has dealt with this in his time.
The fact that it's Bastion behind all this, I feel like we're going to find out Gambit is alive, and is now a Four Horseman of the Apocalypse, and it's going to set the stage for season 2.
Cable was in the original series, in their take on Days of Future Past (which is why I don't think they'll undo this in that way), so Jean has met him before, which is why Madelyne recognized Cable. But at that time, Nathan hadn't been born yet, so it isn't until this episode, after Nathan gets sent to the future, that anyone recognizes that Cable is their son.
@@toomuch535 If this was made by the people that do the MCU movies it will be full of cringe jokes and the deaths of Magneto and Gambit would lose all their emotional impact Don't compare the cringe MCU movies for literal toddlers to X-Men 97 cause the people that run X-Men 97 know how to do justice to the comic books
@@MONSTANIMATION Wth is you talking about. I'm talking about comics. But I'm going to push back. First off you guys wouldn't be on the internet if it wasn't for the mcu.And second why is you watching xmen 97.I thought you internet dweebs was done with marvel. You guys have to stand on business. You can't pick and choose.
Two things aside from the episode being incredible. Firstly Gambit had no right whatsoever to go this hard and secondly to explore the genocide of genosha is a very ballsy move. Would have never happened in original series. Stellar work.
Replacing Emma with Madelyne for the Grey/Summers psychic affair worked surprisingly well. I hate that Emma doesn't get her chance to shine though. She always works great as a foil to Jean. The good girl vs the bad. Fire vs Diamonds.
Well they didn't show her dead body this episode (only Dazzler next to Shaw), & the frantic pace of this series means we just might just get diamond skin Emma in the next episode. I mean, she develops her secondary mutation after the Genoshan Massacre. Also, WHY the F*CK did Magneto let Leech hug him?!?! He needed his FULL POWER to protect them all at that moment. Some other useless Morlock should've been holding Leech back. Or actually kick him unconscious (like Emma did in the comics) so his powers don't affect any mutant fighting for their lives at that pivotal moment.
I was noticing from many reactions that at a certain still frame people missed the coolest tie in the watcher was watching this all happen spot is when the fireworks hit the sky you see him
@@TheMovieCouple great reflex he has with the eyes I almost missed it myself with everything going on and we know X-Men will be part of season 3 of what if so this is even more crazy knowing that
I get the feeling time travel will be used to get everyone back and that to me will undo the consequences of this episode. The knock on Marvel for years was that no one ever really dies and stays dead and there is no way someone like Magneto for instance will stay dead.
