The problem was in the output voltage capacitors of the charger, and when you injected voltage from your powersupply, the damaged capacitors were charged at the output voltage of the machine’s charger, so the charger returned to work, but if you left it for a while without power, the malfunction will return. Those damaged capacitors must be replaced. Thank you.

I second you on that, plus the voltage at 11.32v its a bit low for a smps 12V IMO... definitely something wrong with the psu I would say

If you look closely from 0:49, you will see after rocking the switch a few times the status led actually comes on. The switch might not get used in the shop it come from and is always on, maybe bad internal contacts in the switch 🤷‍♂️

@@rossphillipson3413 oh yeah, at the last times he rocks it it actually comes on, haven't noticed it until I rewatched it. good call there. but even so those 11.3v don't seem right to me lol

Low, fluctuating voltage on the output (11.2V and fluctuating) also points to damaged output capacitors, although, they had no visible marks or issues. Worth investigating/replacing.

My first ever electrical repair was my mother's hair dryer, when I was about 10 years old. It did not heat up and the fan did not run. I opened the case (not having a clue what I was doing), gave it a severe looking at, blew out some dust and screwed it back together. Lo and behold, it worked and continued to work for another 20 years! That was the day I realised I had magic fingers! 🤣🤣🤣

Hi Sorin, the simplest and safest way to to open those kind of boxes is to use gasoline on the joint part which will weaken the plastic and melt the glue. and after 30 sec you can open it by your bare hands and without tools. 🙂

I had the same effect with a bluray player. At the customers house it was not working. I brought it home, took it apart and started measuring. The thing worked. I gave back. Two months later customer said it's not working. I took it home, took it apart and it worked. I resoldered most connections and for now it is working .... :)

I would definitely have done a few test prints to ensure the PSU was outputting sufficient power to drive the thermal head, but agree the switch seemed to have been the primary issue. Whilst the device was open its worth taking out the printer board to inspect the switch and for dust/dirt underneath.

I think i saw a few bad solder joints... 8:30 at least the middle pin of the transistor, if not all three 8:32 the big one looks cracked to me 8:46 the soldering straight below the 'R22' marking looks bad, the one left to the marking also... In this case i would resolder the through hole components to be on the safe side.

A few years back at work, we had a ceiling mounted data projector in the main school hall that was dead. We had to get our scaffold tower to get to it. My boss was about to spend £2,000+ to replace it as it's a very high lumens model that projects on to a very large screen on the stage. I said before you send off the order for a replacement let me take a look... well I opened it up, took it all apart and had a good look around and could see nothing wrong so I put it all back together, plugged it in and low and behold! It was working again and I had done nothing other than take it apart and put it back together again! It went back up the scaffolding tower, connected back up to the ceiling bracket and it has been fine ever since!!

I got some weird stuff for repair. Usually the customers don't want to pay the big buck for specialized service repair. They come to us hoping to pay 10 cents. They should always have a backup in case the main printer fails but they are too cheap to have one a s a backup. Looks like all over the world customers are the same.

@@juliusvalentinas Hahaha, don't worry, that's exactly what I do pretty often. I always remember some things when someone demands I charge very little: thinking about all of the times when I stayed awake at nights to learn while they were sleeping or they had sex and how I'm spending my own money to buy stuff I need to do their repairs while they went to holidays or got drunk.. or anything else. Offering free vaccines along with repairs seems to be the right way, indeed.

I think you missed something this time. Sure, the caps are the usual suspects but: The 5th time you flip the switch ( video time 0:54 ) you can see the green led turning on, and the red light light start flashing. Then, you flip the switch one more time (6th time) and the same thing happens again: the green light turns on, and the red light light starts flashing. You just fail to notice because your bench lights are very bright. I believe that you have a dirty switch. It needs some good old loving contact spray. My second guess it that you have a dry solder under the switch. Of course you could check the caps with an ECR meter but in this case i believe that there is no need to replace them. As always, I enjoy your videos! PS as @dreaso suggested, since you already cracked opened the PSU case, you could resolder the through hole components. Its a one-minute job.

the "dial up port" is actually a cash drawer kick port. ive been repairing cash registers/epos since 1979 to test it, put an 57mm roll in it, then press and hold the feed button while you turn the main power on (it will perform a self test) dry joints on the rocker switch are common - as are the output capacitors on the power supply - (these cause the printing to be feint) trust me - it will be back (my money is on the output capacitors on the psu) you also didnt test the print

It may about broken copper wire inside the cord. if a device not working i always check the power cable first, then adaptor output value without any cable moving. You can catch the broken wire while problem live. But if you move the cables, copper wires may start to connection and you cant catch it beacuse of plastic coats.

the best way to open glued power supplies is to use a big knife, place it across the middle glued section and hit it with a wood hammer, like the one for meat. it will perfectly crack open.

Of course, to begin with I do NOT like receiving "unknown" devices... if a customer arrives with something of this type I go and see it (courtesy), I tell him to call or go to the authorized service center of that brand. ...generally, the client gets upset (angry) when I tell him this; Then I promise to review it, let you know that there are no schematic diagrams and that I have no spare parts for your unusual device. Finally I ask for 10 days for the review WITHOUT obligation but with the understanding that you will pay minimally for the diagnosis. Alone I reflect and tell myself that it is an "opportunity" to learn something new and how curiosity always kills me! I'll have to stay a little longer at the end of the day. Greetings.
