you probably dont care but if you are bored like me atm you can stream pretty much all the latest series on instaflixxer. Have been streaming with my gf these days :)
Matt.....that is an insane achievement, total respect. "Until you spread your wings, you will have no idea how far you'll fly.." Good luck on getting your wings, and il see you in the friendly skies.
You're an inspiration. You have achieved so much your actions have inspired me to stop smoking after 57 years of doing so. It's killing me but when I lose focus I just crank up a few of your videos. Onya Matt.
You'll definetely love learning to fly. I took my ultralight license at the age of 47, and it was one of my dreams come true since I was a kid. About filming & instructors, I understand they don't want you distracted from flying. My advice: get a kind of camera you can put and turn on even before starting the walkaround so you can forget about it until you finish your flight. If you got it recorded, hurra! if not, don't worry, it will get recorded another day. You will do a lot, maybe hundreds, of touch & goes before you're ready for your checkride.
Congrats Matt! Welcome back to the air. I really hope you enjoy your lessons and don't worry too much about the recording thing. Just focus on learning and safety, everything else is secondary. You were asking about why it says mixture lean for taxi. Well, it has to do with the engine spark plugs mostly. When your taxing with low rpm's and your mixture is rich you may end up with unburned fuel gunking up your spark plugs, leaning the mixture helps to prevent this phenomenon. If during your run up one of your magnetos dropped too many rpm's or the difference between the two was too high, you may have done an "engine cleaning" (Don't know how it's really called in English, basically you throttle up to 2000 rpm or more, lean the mixture and keep it running in this configuration for about 1min). If after that your magneto check was ok, then you should lean your mixture more during taxing.
Matt, really nice to hear! I have watched you channel for some 3 years and have been with you through the ups and downs of you channel and you are the reason i started simming myself. Since the first time i watched you channel my dream has been to be a pilot. I with you best of luck and congratulations on your incredible achievment!
Good stuff and best wishes, I also learned to fly on the PA28 140,albeit in the 70s, didn't think there would be any still around. Make sure you get an endorsemment on the Arrow at some stage -constant speed prop/retracts, good for touring. FYI I was taught to taxi with mixture full rich (Australia)
WOW matt ... your a inspiration to us all. Your are amazing. I wish you the best for the future in aviation. All of us will forever be by your side through thick and thin.
Congrats, I just started flying lessons as well. And I wanted to thank you for your review on Chillblast PC's and your work in creating those awesome machines. Now I can enjoy P3D to the same level. Best of luck with your PPL and enjoy.
Wow, Matt! Congratulations! You've lost a lot of weight, you are so much healthier now! I would love to see some real-life content. Keep up the good work!
A tip for getting TrackIR to work, I currently use TrackHat (cheapo TrackIR!) and use the X-Camera plugin. Simply tick the "Use TrackIR" box within each view you want to use, and like magic it works (Probably better than magic, almost anyone can reproduce it!). X-Camera (even the free version) has so many other features, including "Headshake" integration, which is another plugin that makes the head move around with the dynamics of the plane, somewhat similar to how EZDOK (throwback!) does. EDIT - Also congrats on the progress and honestly well done, many people don't find a way out so it's great to hear about someone who has!
I've recently got back into flying, and I've started watching your channel again! I'm glad to see you are doing well! I've personally lost some weight last year (20kgs), I can't imagine how you must feel after loosing so much! Looking forward to your videos!
Awesome Matt! You obviously have the determination necessary to achieve a goal. I got my PPL 2 years ago and also trained in a PA28-140 and 151. For me the mission, strangely enough, was to overcome a terrible fear of flying. The process took me 4 years, well beyond the average, but I was on a journey, not in a race. I am now in love with general aviation and am working on joining a partnership with a friend that owns a PA28R-200. Keep your training goals attainable. You will have good days and bad days during training. Cheers and good luck.
Wow Matt... you look fucking amazing man!! Well done mate... everyone else should sit up and pay attention... Will power and if you want it enough. Good lad.
So glad to hear you're flying again! congratulations on that weight loss, not an easy thing to do, very disciplined. Flying will be the most rewarding experience
Holy shit Matt, massive congratulations on what you have achieved, u must be so proud of yourself! I've just started gliding training, and flying is becoming more of a reality now than just a dream and simulation.
Well done Matt. REALY proud of what you achieved, and excited to here of what you are now doing. Blue Skies Matt. Cheers, Chris from Sydney, Australia.
Mate, I've been subscribed to you for years now, and just wanted to say, a big well done for your weight loss. Good on you pal, proud of ya. On another note, enjoy going for your P.P.L, I started leaning out of Liverpool, but completed and finish my P.P.L full course when I lived out in the states. Enjoy it mate, you'll love it. Again, well done buddy.
As someone who has always turned to an eating disorder as a means to keep my weight down, but lost my medical as a result after getting my PPL, I absolutely commend you and am so incredibly proud of you for doing this! Well done. You're an inspiration!
I am personally very grateful for what you do, Matt. And though you don't know it, you have been a big part of my life for the past 4 years and inspiring me to pursue a flying career and I am so happy that I have started my lessons a couple of weeks ago. It is amazing to see the hard work you put into everything and I am very inspired by that. So, thank you. P.S. Keep pumping out videos they are amazing and can't wait to see the future of your channel.
Hi Matt, been subscribed for a while. You've made a hugely positive change and it's only right you reap the rewards. What an amazing opportunity learning to fly is (jealous much). You've achieved many things already and there's no limit for what the future holds. Looking forward to following what is to come.
Good work Matt - on both fronts (weight loss and PPL training). I also had my PPL training on a PA-28 some years back (at Biggin Hill) and your video brought back much of the fun of getting to grips with that technology. I look forward to seeing your real life exploits on RU-vid. Onwards and upwards!
Congratulations Matt, and good luck with the PPL. Really enjoyed the video, and hope there are enough thumbs up to encourage you to continue the series.
As a Cherokee owner myself, I can offer a tip about the primer. Listen very closely when you're pumping it. If you don't hear a sort of fizzing noise when you pump it, it's not working. I fly a Cherokee 180, so the number of pumps required might be slightly different, but I usually pump it until it makes the noise, and then twice more. Works just about every time. If it's colder out, you might want to give it an extra 1-2 pumps. Additionally, regarding the mixture during taxi, the reason why you should lean it out is because idling at full rich will foul your spark plugs. If you have a short taxi and you aren't sitting around for ages, full rich is fine, but it's good practice to lean it out for taxi. Just don't forget to push it to full rich before you start your takeoff roll!
Doing great Matt! Was so entertaining and interesting to watch. I'm a GA lover so would be wonderful to see more of your sim and real-life PPL progress, thank you. :)
You are the legit best person on Earth man. How do you do such amazing things?! Either way, best of luck to you on flight lessons. (you don't need luck, you're Matt freaking Davies)
Great video and good luck. On the topic of other traffic an important phrase for the Air Law exam is 'On the right in the right' so if the other aircraft was on your right you adjust course to avoid
Matt. Terrific video. You made it look effortless. And congratulations on your weight loss. I needed to lose 50lbs for my health and did so, but the struggle is real as I am sure it is for you as well. Cheers! Regarding videos mirroring your real flight lessons with sim life. YES!!
Holy crap Matti Boy im amazed with what you've done with yourself this just shows that its not impossible to do something if you put your mind to it clearly. But Congrats hope you enjoy yourself & keep going strong! big love from newcastle :D OI OIIIII
This is great! Just got my PPL in the DA-20 in February. Flying is truly great and I’m excited to see how your journey goes! Good Luck and clear skies!
Hi friend!! I'm really happy to know that. I met you almost 3 years ago, when I saw your videos teaching us a make tweaks in FSX. So, I'm pilot student too. I got my private pilot license in january of this year. However, go ahead and successfull for your jorney. Hugs from Brazil!!
Well done, not many people in your former position are able to achieve this goal, you can be very proud of you and i‘m happy to hear these good news :)
