I went to a technician at the mall to have my zx's battery replaced. He watched this video and followed your advice to not "open the screen if it's your first time". He didn't open it since he's afraid.
What an astonishing piece of engineering by Sony. I don't care if my phone is 2-3mm thicker than the competitors if it is well designed and engineered.
I still have a xz premium (released April 2017),still runs fine after 3 years. Sony could've done more with these phones buy they're pretty good. Ridiculously durable, it's been (accidentally) thrown around my kitchen a few times and dropped on tiles. Only ever needed a charging port replacement last year, battery lasts all day and charges in 1.5hrs
@@DollinhonJew im currently using xz for about 4 years, as far as durability goes the phone is rock solid, never had to replace any parts, but as far as software goes, the phone did start to lag a lot, and especially at low batteries and when it got heated up (which started to happen quite often), and just recently i had to replace the battery, other than that, its totally a good phone.
@@DollinhonJew using xz for around 3 years, its solid phone realy but mine has dead battery now. Ordered replacement and going to replace battery. Also screen if flickering when at 100% brightness. And while phone is not connected to charger, it is noticeabely solwer than when connected to charger. Its solid allrounder but not so good as my first sony, the sony xperia z which battery is still going strong after 7 years even after i accidentaly cycled over the phone, shattering its screen.
No all phones. Need to be taken. Apart. Including Apple but Apple won't let you fix your phone. Just goes to show that the best phone. Is not the best when you can't. Fix it if I ever. Get the new experia 1 ile be buying replacement parts for it lol like screens. Battery. I might get a portable. Battery pack sony eats up a lot of juice for gaming. And such.
Thanks for this dude, it's really interesting to see how premium phones are manufactured and the little tidbits that go into each slot. Thumbs up for that easy screen replacement.
I've received an old one of these from family and I'm tempted to upgrade from my iphone 5 but didn't know if to trust the repairability of a newer device. Thanks for the excellent summary.
If u try to replace the iPhone 7 or plus screen will it no longer be water resistant pls reply cause my dads new iPhone 7 plus just fell and the screen shattered
No matter the patient on your operating table I always open the video and hit the like button to provide continued support to the channel. I usually learn something new from each phone teardown anyways so thanks for the ongoing education brotherman.
Hey can you do an iPad? The last time you showed how to change screen, battery etc was apparently years ago. With new ones coming in March it would be fun to see what has changed no?
JerryRigEverything I know you don't do jeopardy test but you should try to drop this phone on the corner that has the vibration motor and see what happens to it
Cool! I have an XZ Premium that is fine except for the charging port being a bit loose and having a dodgy pin. Which I guess is quite major because the cable has to be inserted, then very, very carefully moved around until all pins get contact before it will charge. Once in the optimal position, it has to be left in that spot lest the plug lose contact and stop charging. I have a replacement though. Not a Sony. My daughter bought me an OPPO A53s which is a very good phone considering the price. I was advised by a repairer here in Australia that it would be "very expensive" to repair it. However, knowing enough about phone dismantling to be dangerous to myself and others, as well as having a sometimes problematic curiosity, I think I might source a replacement charging port and have a crack at fixing it. The worst I can do is break it.
You should put it against the OnePlus 3T, also love your channel! I watch all your videos as soon as you upload. Thanks for making them, they make my day!
Yes, the plastic parts are annoying for repairers, but could the plastic parts be used for keeping components in place and give the phone a even weight to it?
I love these videos, I do not have the fragile touch it takes to do these repairs I tried on a iPhone 5c and 4s and failed horribly I couldn't imagine how bad I would fail on a glued on screen
I am a big fan of your channel because of your very informative tutorials and videos. Just a suggestion, can you try to breakdown some tablets as well? Thanks!
is there a way to make the phone water resistant again after disassembling it? or even increasing the water resistance? (maybe coat the internals with something like dielectric grease or apply a sealant to the seams?)
I know it's an old phone but Xperia M4 Aqua screen broke today and it would be nice if you would do a video on how to replace the screen. It's not something that big of a thing because I can use my mom's phone until that and I will probably get a new phone too but it would be nice to get it fixed because the replacement screens don't seem to be expensive at all. If not I can just find a tutorial that someone else made but your videos are always the best and you explain everything so well and clearly so it would be nice to see a video from you :)
2:33 by this point i'm totally like "i can replace the battery myself" but then i got the issue of "ACTUALLY FINDING WHERE TO BUY ONE" which is annoying now.
Appreciate your work and time you're spending on this. It's fun to watch and also helps me to pick phones that are easier to repair or are not so fragile. It's also interesting to see how different manufacturers approach the design. Oh yeah and i would love to see Honor 8 tested and torn apart :) Spec wise it seems it's just a copy of P9, but i saw some info that it's completely different internally and much harder to repair than the P9.
I'm loving the repairability and teardown videos. High quality and very informative :) I can't get my hands on these devices myself so it's the next best thing.
That NFC location can explain why the SIDE of the phone is used instead. That battery placement is brilliant though. No need to harm the other components when you can separated it with its own housing first.
Great video,i know this is an old video too,but would appreciate you telling us what adhesive you use to restick the screen as i need to change my battery,Thanks.
Try a same video on the XPERIA X COMPACT. You'll love it for sure coz the motherboard and the battery are fixed onto the midframe similar to this device.
Hey Jerry, do you happen to plan on taking a Huawei P10 apart? I just repaired one, screen+backpanel, thanks to your great video's. I'm interested on your take on a repair on that phone
You should start tearing down some other electronics as your methods are purely logical and super easy to understand rather than some lengthy confusing ones. Plus one for that!
PLEASE PLEAS PLEASE buy more waterproof phone and tell us why it's waterproof. I really love your videos explaining why makes them waterproof love those videos. I especially love the the phone ones
Hey Jerry. How excited are you for tear down of Oppo Find X? I am eagerly waiting. Plz do make a tear down video as soon as you get hands on the device. Thank you.
wow! Sony phones are well built! just like apple! solid screen heat shield! individual plastic brackets for the Lego connectors! :D pls do xz2 teardown!
Hello! One thing I wish to add is that card you found just beside the sim dock is not new, Sony has been using it since the Z1. For the camera test, side bu side, what do you think about the Samsung S7, iPhone 7, and the Google Pixel? Thank you Jerry you're doing a great job. Keep it up. Greeting from Algeria 🇩🇿
your channel is awesome man, but I hope you add drop test as a part of durability test. and I would like to see a camera comparison between the xz and iPhone 7 (specially video stability) keep it up
My sisters XZ phone got run over by a car (while it was in her backpack) last week. We were really surprised when the phone still worked! Theres only one weird thing going on, on the lower half of the screen there are two colored smudges, purple and orange. but they are ONLY visible on dark/black backgrounds. Could this be something from the inside being pushed up from behind the screen? The phone is working fine besides that and she says she doesnt care. personally hoping theres no battery damage going on and its not a Note 7 waiting to happen. Thanks for this though! Replacing the screen and even the battery seems easy enough of we need it down the line!
Hi, can you test the Nokia Lumia 830? I know it's not a new smartphone, but I would like to see how it hold's up and maybe the Nokia Lumia 920 aswell? You can test the Xperia XZ against the Google Pixel.
Is it possible for you to do a Nokia 3310 teardown video, I love to hear you talk about old tech, and for you to justify why that Nokia is considered one of the toughest phones out there (made for mainstream use that is).
