For instance if your friend was murdered and you saw what happened you should still speak to a lawyer before saying anything because it would help put away the murderer. If you say something wrong your testimony could end up working in the defendants favour.

Because in her instance she is being investigated as a witness not as a suspect, by asking for a lawyer she would immediately raise suspicion and most likely incriminate herself. which she knows. but as it turns out it’s not easy to lie to someone who’s job is to know when someone’s lying.
