You know what crazy usually the studios dont even sell off the product, they give the stuff to a third party liquidation company that sell off stuff , then it ends up in the hands of random individuals, then slowly overtime ends up in a big auction collection once enough of the stuff are offered up and brought out of private ownership. Studios almost never actually do auctions themselves.

there's a crazy story about the OG Sam Raimi Spiderman suit that got stolen, sold and found years later. Mr Sunday Movies did a really good video about it, just goes to show the length people will go for a suit Tobey hated wearing, and him and his stunt mens sweat is probably still in that thing cuz you can't machine wash them lol

a lot of these are screen matched which I'm pretty sure just means someone made a very close to perfect replica of the outfit or item its not even the original...

@daltonmm3675 this is a false statement, screen match is actually highly thought after because it provides irrefutable evidence that its the real prop. This is by being able to use screen grabs to compare and analyze marking, shaping, color, etc. Screen matched are traditionally more expensive. For non screen matched props there are props used in the production of films and shows that are 100% legit but might have not been displayed anywhere in the actual work itself. For example a rebel blaster in star wars could have multiple makes of them that were used in the filming of the movie but the particular one you might buy wasn't displayed on screen. Screenmatch items are not only used in the production, but used specifically on screen with absolute proof of their use.

I'm pretty sure they come with a certificate of authenticity. Plus if you're rich enough to buy it, you can probably pay somebody to double check it's authenticity.

It's definitely possible that some pieces are just replicas that slip through to the auctions. Although a majority of it is legit, fakes have gotten through multiple times and these auction houses are too lazy/rolling in too much money to care even if it's pointed out. So it's important to do your own research on whatever your looking to buy, you'd be stupid not to honestly.
