The DonoWall strat. It is easier to execute than most other builds due to its simplicity and as can be seen here, it can be highly effective. Many Detective mains have asked for it to be nerfed since there are no direct counters aside from the Physical or Circumstantial Evidence strat which may not be available in every match.
@@iu118 We'll of course it'd be hard to fabricate anything under the pressure of a criminal investigation. But it'd definitely be easier to fabricate a lack of emotion than a convincing entirely fake personality.
@@orden4932 someone also said “BAD DETECTIVE” like okay yeah, let’s see what you would do vs someone who says nothing but “no” “yes” “I don’t know” “I didn’t do it” “I have friends”
To be fair these detectives seem like they jumped straight of a buddy cop comedy film. It's not that they just come off as bad at their job, their behaviour is comical, like I'm watching a bad play.
@@darrenkorine9031 I mean in a situation where someone literally shuts down like that you have to try everything, if you can provoke any kind of reaction positive or negative it just shows that what they’re doing does get to them, I think it’s actually very good work that they did, I’m clearly not a detective though, just personal opinion
Detective : “Are you gunna say yes to everything Steven?” Steven : “Yes” Detective: “You killed her didn’t You” *Stevens brain* “Don’t you dare” Steven : Yes ....... shit
The detective isn't bad at all. The criminal was mentally prepared to be interrogated, he studied law, and is a literal psychopath. I don't think that even a detective experienced with psychos would have been able to break him.
He doesn't look mentally prepared for this. It looks as though he "went tharn" and almost completely shut down...But it WAS surprisingly effective. What's surprising is that he studied law. It's easy to forget that his demeaner was completely different prior to this interview where he appears to be near catatonic. Wild stuff. 😐
A good detective makes the suspect accidentally confess, a bad detective (case in point: this video) goes "Why'd you do it? Why'd you do it? We know you did it. Why'd you do it?"
i wouldn’t say he’s a psychopath, realistically this type of catatonic behaviour is possible by anyone experiencing a “loss” whether it’s a friend, loved one or a murder naturally as humans another human’s death is very significant and can cause this deep despair in the mind and he ran with it. As for the detectives they were entirely doing their job but i believe it’s as you say that he studied law as he looked to the detectives as a joke and predictable.
"Rather than Lauren going on to live the promising life that lay ahead of her, and leaving Stephen behind as a forgotten memory, he has now in some abstract manner, connected them both forever." God damn, that ending line sent shivers down my spine.
These are my favorite videos to watch x react to. Glad he got into them and is actually paying attention enough to catch onto some of the tells and techniques they've previously gone over.
That state he was in at the end is quite easy to read. I have the same defensive mechanism. You shut down and crawl inside your own head. He won't crack as he's not really there. Just his body and a small part of his motor functions.but his is way worse. Its years of damage.
X is right. If you play a binary character who only responds to developments in a binary manner it's very inconclusive to the detectives. It's essentially the lowest risk persona you can play, but not very high reward. The more personable you act gives the detectives more information psychologically analyze you.
Wouldn't it be hard to though? I feel like 1 single slip up and it completely discredits what you've been tryna do the whole time..... That would've been a lot of pressure to try to keep up
@@payamux8933 makes sense but I just find it odd and I'm sure the reason why it's so popular is because he did it so well, I mean he was so quick to break down during the interview but during the interro he was able to power through every technique the detectives had and even made them uncomfortable
@@payamux8933 That argument doesn't make sense. If you don't want to divulge any information to the detectives, just immediately invoke your right to counsel and that's the end of the conversation.
I’m not a detective, but I wonder if it would have been more effective to have a female detective interview him. His behavior was like that of a kid who got yelled at by dad and freezes up incredibly defensively. He might have been more talkative with a female detective
Yeah. Dude essentially turned all the settings to low. The sad part is, with a performance that gave away as little as this, he would've made a disgustingly good poker player. Without hindsight, it's literally impossible to tell if he was actually involved or just a weirdo
i dont wanna pretend to know more than the investigators, but i believe their strategy here was weird as they started attacking the dude and expected him to just comply when they could have been more friendly earlier and bait him to talk or try to explain himself giving more incriminating info or slipping up.
He immediately completely shut down. It’s VERY hard to break someone that is shut down like that. He’s just starting at his lips moving only listening to hear if it’s an incriminating question or not. He probably also has seen interrogation footage similar to this before.
I think that way too often with these. I kinda want to be these killers for a couple hours or something, just to know exactly what they could've been thinking to push them to commit murder.
I like how he raises his hand when he asks a question to the chat, I’ve been watching a lot of his videos and he seems so human and layered than some other youtubers and streamers that kind of have a certain face or personality to portray
When he corrected the investigators about the “Knifes” being “swords”….that was their in right there!. They should of stayed on that subject, asked him more about swords (stuff he is interested in) to get him to open up and drop the “I don’t know” bit.
@@HazeLmao well …he was completely shut down, up until that point. Then his ego forces him to correct the investigator. Again after the investigator moves of that topic he shuts down. The investigator may have been able to get him talking by manipulating his ego, asking questions and talking a little about things he was interested in.
As someone who has been in a similar position to Stephen (FOR MUCH SMALLER INFRACTIONS), it's easy to say as an outsider, "Oh I would have fooled that detective, this dude's a dum dum." But when you know you did it, you get paranoid that they know more than you, and they play on that, works every time because they know you'll go hard on the defensive instead of someone who might be innocent that would say, "Are you accusing me?" You guys already know that someone who is innocent is gonna be calm and collected most of the time, someone who is guilty usually isn't. But what do I know I'm just some dude on the internet lol.
Yeah you’re wrong about that lol. Which is surprising considering this is the exact concept JCS tries to teach. Generally the innocent will ask aggressively are you accusing me? (Like you said) Why do you think I did it? They’re more worried about the situation at hand and won’t try to distract from the subject (Stephanie Lazarus) Guilty people will generally try to act calm, like nothing is upsetting them, which a lot of time makes no sense like chris watts trying to act normal when he should be broken - his whole family just disappeared and he’s trying his best to look fine
26:05 Investigator-“Do you wear the same pair of underwear more then one day“ Him- “yes” Investigator- “Why?” Him - “Because it’s still clean enough to wear”
Haha.. once I worked around this dude that was super hot but if he would reach up his shirt would lift up and you could see his undies.. I noticed on more than one occasion he was wearing the same undies more than 1 day in a row.. although he was so attractive he could probably wear the same undies for a whole year and they'd still be fresh. 🤣
I'm kinda confused... Why were the detectives always saying that Lauren's missing, even though her torso has been already found? Do they still want to find the rest of her corpse or what?
The best thing to do as soon as you step one foot in a police station (innocent or not) is to ask for a lawyer and if you live in a country where detectives have a right to question you for a certain amount of time without legal representation use your right to remain silent, silence can not be used as evidence of be guilty. Don't even say a peep, police will talk for hours for as long as they can keep you and are looking for an opening. You give them more and more openings the more you speak.
This was one of the most disturbing and disgusting videos i have watched in quite a while. This is stuff you hear is horror movies. It really does force me to gag everytime I think about what this man has done to that person.
This is the funniest one I’ve ever seen. I always laugh when I see this one. I know the detectives are trying their best but they just made it so funny. Making fun of Stephen and all of that. When he asked if he wears the same underwear and he says yes. It’s so funny
If I was a detective and Steven was staring at me like that like a cornball I would ask him “do you really think you’re intimidating 🤣” his little “nos” pissed me off so bad
nah, I don't think that this is an act. I used to have extremely bad anxiety. At his sort of age, I had something extremely similar to this happen to me (not being arrested kinda thing!) but I had some sort of breakdown very similar to this, and ended up being hospitalised (can't remember what caused it, but that was a grimmmmmmm time). The way I would describe what he is going through is being lost in his thoughts and struggling to collect himself, you need time to sort of gather yourself together, but they keep prompting him to reply all the time. Honestly the strategy of trying to induce mental exhaustion is extremely counter-productive here, this is the RESULT of mental exhaustion, what happens AFTER you completely burn out. I would explain it as trying to build up an electric charge, you need a certain level of mental energy to break outta this state.. but then, every time they push him again its just like adding a ground wire and draining all that mental energy.
its not that the detectives were bad, its that this dude either snapped and maintained his creepy persona. or he's one of the best actors i've ever seen, cause pulling something like this off fully knowing you did what you did is impossible. he didnt even break character for a second.
Does anyone know if he ever denied that his confession was true or not? I can only find news of his lawyer reading it in court, but nothing from McDaniel himself. I'm very curious about it.
Guys RU-vid is evolving and we need to be concerned. 23:13 "I know you aren't a monster" and I got an ad for Monster Energy immediately after that sentence. WTF
I wouldve been like “oh, theyve found her, shes alright.. but she says yall aint friends. She claims shes never invited u over before..she on her way here now to see who he is” and watch him freak out.
At the 15:33 mark this psycho replied...."she WAS my friend" as in past tense. Im pretty sure that's why the investigator chuckled after he said that because he caught him using the past tense as well.
Well they both know she's dead. There's no big reveal there. it's common to refer to the recently deceased in the present tense if you were very close. But would you expect a casual friend/neighbor to grieve over you? I don't think there was any sort of revelation there. Looks like he laughed at the idea he cared for his "friend".
10:04 Either he’s the greatest actor ever, or he’s panicking so hard he’s dissociating. Keeping up this monotone and completely still affect for hours is mentally exhausting.
I've seen so many memes of this, one where they are playing Halo:CE split screen in the interrogation room and so many other edits, finally I get to watch the whole thing
This entire method of acting lifeless and giving the most simple responses is literally meant to be a game of mental endurance, while not giving the detectives an inch of information, he’s literally playing on easy mode
I think the detectives went the complete wrong way deciding to bully him, and should've tried to reassure him more or boost his ego to get him to talk.
