XR (augmented and virtual reality) has been gaining popularity over the past few years. Most people think of a big, heavy headset that you have to wear, that relies on sight to understand experiences, and can’t fathom how it’s possible to make this accessible. However, that’s a bit of a misconception. This talk will go into the Accessibility of Augmented and Virtual Reality, how to create accessible applications in the current state, and the imagined future.

Pronouns: She/her
Deb is a Software Engineer by day and an XR developer at night. After getting her undergraduate and master’s degrees in Classical Studies, she found value in using 3D modeling and XR to (re)create the past for education. After creating a Virtual Reality experience of a Roman Temple, she went into industry and has been advocating for the uses of XR ever since. One of Deb’s recent projects was using WebXR to view an office, which could be helpful for returning to the office as well as onboarding and training.
