i adjusted the valves on this bike while it was hot because some youtube dude was like YOU GOTTA DO IT HOT FORGET YOUR REPAIR MANUAL and now im taking the head in for a rebuild because the clearances apparently are engineered to be set cold and the heat expansion of the metal is taken into consideration
Conor McQueen that was going to be my question "do it hot?"... Sorry about your experience... Either way the video was well explained, and with good illumination. Hope you didnt spent too much $. Cheers.
briansmobile1 First I watched your videos to learn more about subies and now you got Honda dual sport videos! You’re the man! I’m doing some work an 85 XL600R so I’ll be persistent on making it a good roadworthy machine again!
I was looking for a video where I didn't have to strip my bike of so many unnecessary parts and here yours seem like the better of them. I seen on where the exhaust came off, carb. and airbox and other things which made me rethink the job till I seen this. Because of my living situation, I am unable to perform much needed maintenance. After watching video I'm confident I'll be able to adjust my valves, there's some ticking going on in mine and hope to start this soon. Thanks again for not making it look so complicated, it's clearly explained to follow without no hiccups.
Hey Brian, nice video for Wildcard Wednesday. Just a quickie since this reminded me when I did valve adjustment on 06 Honda Ridgeline 2 weeks ago. I had the intake valves way loose and tighten them. The exhaust valves were okay so left them alone. I am now getting negative fuel trims which annoys the heck out of me (STFT -5 and LTFT -9). Seems bank 2 is running richer than bank 1 too. Has this happened to you before with Honda CRV, Ridgeline, or Odyssey? Thanks bud and keep those videos coming.
Would valve clearances be responsible for loss of power and just poor performance? My bike sounds louder too. Seems like I’m going through oil like crazy too. Plz help.
Got the same bike 08.Wouldja know why it misses when i open the throttle a bit wide?Had the darn carb cleaned out no joy!Spark plug is a ok as well.Could the cdi have developed a fault or some such thing?K and N air filter
Man,I had to pause it 30 seconds in,and go get my sunglasses...I love those dual purpose bikes like that one..You can ride them anywhere, quiet, fuel efficient, lightweight, easy to work on/maintain,etc. which must be why they are rarely for sale used ...
Hello, good video. Greetings from Croatia. Do you maybe know is this the same engine as the fmx 650 ? I have it and I need to order some parts of the valve train but all I can find is xr650l , I think they're the same but thinking it's not knowing... if you have some info thanks in advance
I have motorcycle subscriptions and anti new world order alternative media subscriptions..... But this the first time I've watched them both at the same time...right on...
Very good and specific video, i had watched 2 other videos and messed up my valves due to a lack of understanding but this video helped me correct things. Thanks Buddy!
LOL I loved the "New World Order-esque" comment. I agree totally. Your political views, though you rarely express them, are part of what I like about you and your content.
Never adjust valves hot, unless you know what the valve clearances should be at a given "hot" temp. These numbers aren't published, because you should never adjust valves hot! Good video otherwise.
I once had a boss we used to complain about. "He doesn't do anything." Well, he ended up getting replaced, and we now have a boss that does things just to do things. We didn't realize how good we had it with the boss that left things alone. My point is... Clinton could have been a very bad president had he not been so busy with the ladies and was actually doing more. Wow, can you imagine how much damage Obama could have done if he had been working more instead of golfing? Oh, and great video!!
