Had an 01 xr650r, it is a joke for anyone to believe they are hard to start....had a compression release to get past tdc.... and it started 1st kick 98% of the time.... 2 kicks the other 2% of the time....
My buddies uncle had a xr600r but he put a dome top chevy smallblock piston in it and a bigger flatslide carb and I was 16 they said I bet you can't start that bike and It was cold but it fired first kick just gotta do everything in order
I rebuilt the top end on my 91 600r literally first kick after I figured out the no spark it started right up. They’re awesome bikes u just gotta keep up on them
Yup. I pull in the decompression lever and kick it a few times. Then find top dead center and kick it like I mean it and it usually started in the first 1-3 kicks after sitting for a good while. If it’s hot it fires up no issues. Just always get it to top dead center. You feel it lock up so it’s no question when you’re there
So, you use the kickstand when you kickstart it. It seems to me. That place is a lot of stress on the kick stand, on an aluminum frame bike? When the kickstand on my XR 650 L broke I just welded it back on. I don’t know about my aluminum welding skills though. Actually, I do know about my aluminum welding skills; it looks like chicken hemorrhoids.
That argument has been going of since before Honda made motorcycle lol heaps of people start their bikes on side stands British bikes came out with main stands to help vertically challenged people start bikes. I see comments about this all the time.
This is indeed how to bend/break a kickstand bracket. They should not be started standing on the kickstand and if it requires it then the carb or valves need attention
