Finally with a few tests and wiring variations I have the old alternater working with the New Regulator and Rectifier unit. Done without the use of nylon screws for the stator.

Hopefully you can help me. When you did the reg/rec switch, were you still running points? I’m guessing you were when talking about nylon screws but just wanted to confirm. I’m trying to set up a newer reg/rec with points. Thx

Hi. Which rec/reg have you used? I’ve been working on a friends tx and there is no charging at all. Plug from stator are buggered, melted from arcing. Also the bugger drains it’s battery within 5 mins of riding and cuts out with its Boyer ignition. We have bought a new loom from y’bits but doesn’t come with accessory harnesses. The headlight bowl is a mess. Worse nightmare.

Hi on eBay I just searched xs650 regulator and the one I got was the really cheap £21.97 one, also check the three white wires from the stator, none of them should go to earth and if you check the resistance between them they should only be 0.6 ohms, mine read 0.9 and still worked, I think the TX 650 alternator is the same one I have, are you currently using the old separate rectifier and regulator? If you are, they are probably shot now with age anyway. Wiring sucks haha

To be honest I would just go for the original XS650 electrics from 79 onwards, less messing about with the wiring and you can get a cheap regulator rectifier from China that will work just as good as any £70-90 job

Go China!!! I don't know what I'd do without the China counterfeit market. It's the soul reason I can even afford to repair anything
