One of my favorites IEMs... Only who really knows about tone, like you, Paul, can tell how good the X-One is! Congrats for the video and very good work! Cheers!
Mod needed, it is simple: 1/ remove metal protector on the mouth of the nozzle, carefully (you will need it later); 2/ take out all passive attenuating filters (I had a black paper one); 3/ return back on the mouth of the nozzle the metal protector. You get better treble extension and most of the 'darkness' disappears, no excessive peaks in treble are appearing. On another set (I have two) I stabbed deeply with the biggest possible neеdle the vent port that on the inner side (close to the nozzle). The stab should be done carefully with the needle pointing to the nozzle, as much as horizontally possible (you do not want to stab the driver below). That mod on top on the treble one is not increasing the bass more, it is adding more clarity in the bass and mids (most heard in the vocals). Otherwise the set worth any penny and according to me the treble mod increases sounstage above average.
I totally agree. I have them around one week, for now I'm throwing them through burn-in process and after around 24h the sound become more balanced, the bass is slightly reduced and darkness is not present anymore. They definitely require modding, especially if you are sound stage lover ;) BTW ... I also have X-Zero (Olina shell with Mele driver) and they also sound decent but not better than X-One. All in all, both sets have great value for the money 👌
I see it both ways, that darkness is going to work well for some people especially if you are just buying it for big bass at a decent price. But I know exactly what your mod sounds like as Tigerism Octave is basically as you describe the mod and the treble extension. Thank you for the mod.
To everyone considering the XSL X-One: I would highly recommend searching ali for Hanadomi B2 to purchase instead if you desire the tuning described in this review. The X-One has had tuning revisions and I found out the hard way. The unit I received was completely different in sound from what is discribed here. It was fairly neutral and balanced which is fine if that's what you want but I was disappointed. All the bass lovers should skip the X-One at this point unless you can confirm it has the original tuning with the seller. The Hanadomi B2 has the original tuning of the X-One and is identical in every other way I'm aware of. I think the B2 is an excellent iem well worth the asking price. My thanks to @someoneusa for bringing it to my attention. 🙏
How does Xone compare to 7hz Legato, i.e. would it better better to purchase Xone considering price to performance. I bought the Xone but modified it to the Dark Magician fc curve, with my enthusiasm I didn't listen to Xone before modifying. Kind regards in advance. P.S. Love your vids as there well explained and a growth of information.... THANK YOU!!
I think Legato tried to avoid that boom you get on X-One. A more controlled bass response but that was a complaint, it didn't hit hard enough. Second, the X-One was retuned so depending on when you got it, it may be different. The one I have is the latest. If you are going to mess around, I think X-One is a better starting point, the Legato tuning is harder to modify. I think X-One hits closer to the expectations of looking at that graph vs Legato where they tried to avoid the basshead label.
I have both. Sincerely... I prefer the X-One, despite costs half the price. I only buy the Legato 'cause is a "must have" bass extremist for a basshead like me. But the X-One bass it's the really the perfect one!!! Try to listen Duran Duran's "Rio" with the X-One... It's unforgetable!
An IEM that hurls Enter Sandman into a dubstep remix of itself sounds like a very very fun set to have, honestly. I'll probably rock it out with Slipknot's first 4 albums for the giggles.
Yeah, this is a fun set and somewhat interesting to observe where too much bass is ok like the opening to Enter Sandman but when you get that much bass in the middle of other instruments, not as much. It really works best on tracks that were meant for more bass.
Thoughts of XSL X-One vs JUZEAR Clear? Which is better in terms of note weight, immersive-ness, and eq-ability? Any recommendations for warm tuned iems with heavy note weight?
Ask yourself if you like more treble or less treble. Both have a lot of bass, but Clear is more like a steeper V shape, X-one has treble, just not boosted as much.
Hi Paul, I have the original set (modded as advised by Michael B). Do you know if the supplier is shipping the new 'retuned' sets now? The original is meant to have 3 to 4 DB of Bass... Supplier on AlieE is not mentioning a retune of the X-One. Thanks
Oratory 1990 said in one interview that he prefers Oratory target but less bass of 2 to 2.5 db in that target..sir can you tweek that target and upload in your target list..plz
@@jaxvideo3 it is typical of single DD tuned to have a strong bass quantity it is dead in the trebble ( i had the same behavior with blon bl03 and qkz x hbb).other good quality single DD i have that are tuned with less bass quantity have a decent bass and good clarity (olina, ea500)
@@amanieux I know. I have the QKZ x HBB and lots of bass boomers, like the 7Hz Legato. The X-One it's like magic. Beautifull bass with respect for all the frequencies. It's trully unbeliavable!
Sir, there is some deviation in your oratory1990 target as well as in oratory1990adjested target..around 1k hz and above..when compared to oratory target of salnotes zero and eq pdf..and also to oratory1990 oratory1990 target of listener and therollo in squiglink..please check that
