Can i create things in Microsoft word or picture and import it to engrave ? Just got mine last week ! I'll be watching for more of your great info ! Thanks
On the Lines per CM option... Often raster images are set to 300dpi, that is equal to just over 118 dots per centimeter. Also, at a laser point size of 0.8mm one cm can fit 125 dots. For both of these reasons I suggest in most cases setting the Dots per CM option to 120.
Uni-directional would be more accurate per burn line IF you have some backlash in the system. It would prevent a slight horizontal shift in every other line.
Hello, thank you for sharing. I just ordered an xtool d1 pro and have NO idea on how to use it. What material can be used to put under the project so it doesnuburn your table. I thought I saw a video that mentioned. Fire place grid. What type of grid would you suggest(something not to expensive).
You can just buy a simple piece of plywood to place under your machine. If you go to any home improvement store (Home Depot, Lowes, etc ) you can buy already cut pieces that are 2x2 feet which work perfectly.
Buster Beagle 3D- THANK YOU!!! This is exactly what I am looking for. My D1 laser won't be here till Wednesday so I'm trying to learn everything I can before it gets here. The information you shared is spot on and its easy to understand what you are saying. THANK YOU for sharing your time, wisdom, and knowledge. I will be pestering you with more questions when my unit gets here. One question no one has been able to help me with so far, what kind of laptop do you recommend that will work with the included software and Lightburn? By what kind, I'm referring to the software/hardware in the laptop. I have used HP's a lot and iPads, but I know any brand should work. I just need to know what I should have loaded on it. Thanks once again!-John
@@baseball1528 Hey Cliff, I got frustrated trying to figure it out and all I ended up doing was ruining a dozen tiles. It has been setting in the garage gathering dust. Got one of those things you can engrave round stuff and its still in the box. Of course they came out with a newer -better one after I got mine. All in all I wish I had all the money I have invested still in my bank. Maybe someday I will drag it out and try again. Or nit.
Yeah.....from what I am experiencing LaserBox with their current "upgrade" has removed the HOME button from the middle the arrows making this video obsolete and worthless in combination with your grid pattern you posted to thingverse.
Thank you for the video. It was helpful. I have a question about times to engrave and I can’t find any answers. When I start it, it said 33 minutes but then took 3 hours to finish. What the heck am I doing and how do I fix it??
Great video. I want to get a machine and after countless videos, I think it will be an xTool. The one thing that is stopping me from purchasing ANY machine is trying to figure out what I need as far as a computer is concerned. I don't own a laptop, (only a PC in my house) so I guess that I have to start there, but what are the requirements for one? I don't want to spend a fortune on it since it will be mostly dedicated to the machine. Another unknown is, does it require an internet connection to run the machine? I may be wrong but I think that the GlowForge has everything in the "cloud" and therefor needs the connection. Any info anyone can give would be greatly appreciated. Happy new Year!!
Happy New Year. You don’t need a laptop to use these machines. A desktop PC should work just fine. While you don’t need an active internet connection like the glowforge to use the machine you would probably need internet to get the firmware and software installed to use the machine. There is no “cloud” setup with this machine but you would need Wi-Fi if you wanted to use that function. I have a bunch of videos on XTool machines on my channel so feel free to check them out for more info on how they work and connect.
Thanks for this video. Helps a great deal. I do want to know if I can/should change to dither as opposed to image, which is what I show? Can I import multiple pictures for one job or one piece of material?
Sorry I don't understand the first part of your questions but yes you can import multiple images and burn them all at the same time. You also might want to look at upgrading the xTool Creative Space instead of Laserbox Basic.
Got my D1 a couple days ago, and man oh man do I have a lot to learn. First thing I learned was a Chrome laptop will not work with the D1. I took the laptop back and got one with Windows. It was only $200 more :( But it works. I loaded and unloaded Lightburn a dozen times, still doing something wrong. I got back on your video and I think I am making some headway. I need to download some more pictures, but thanks to you I do have a picture of my little West Highland Terrier (Terror!) loaded. Decided inside my apartment is not a good place to fire up the laser. Its 15* outside, so I am kind of forced to await warmer weather. I know this is going to sound stupid, but can I run the laser head (with the laser off) around my piece of birch just to see what it will do? Once again, Thank You for putting this video out. Without it I would still be totally in the dark! Any chance you will do a Lightburn tutorial next? Thanks Again-John
any possible way you can keep from burning part of the image outside the Cut zone? Say you have your picture there in the heart and you dont want it to burn any of it outside the heart.
I’m trying to cut out earrings. I used the SVG and got it downloaded and even onto laser box basic. I clicked on cut and when I framed it out, it’s like it didn’t recognize it at all. What am I doing wrong?
Hello. Honestly I'm surprised that Laserbox Basic even works anymore. I'm not sure why your cuts are not working but even if you are on the original D1 I would highly recommend converting your machine over to xTool Creative Space as it's the new software with tons of new features and is currently being supported.
You are welcome. I don't have any good speed/power tests but I have since transitioned to Lightburn which is much better for this and most laser engravers and there are a bunch that work in there.
In laserbox basic for whatever reason I do not have the option of advance settings like you do in your video I have all the way up to transform and fill but there’s nothing below that I can adjust the sharpness I can adjust any other settings underneath fill is there a button that I’m supposed to turn on?
hello. Could you help me, if I want to cut acrylic, what material should I choose, because that option does not appear. Thank you for the very informative video.
Hello i have a problem with my xtool d1 laser engraver everytime i laser engrave something it leaves alot of horizontal line’s all over what im trying to engrave how can i fix this i will appreciate the help.
I'm not really sure what your issue is. I would suggest posting a detailed explanation of what is happening to you with pictures to the official xTool Facebook group and see if you might get some help. There are many people on there willing to take a look at your issue and help.
Looking forward to watching your vid. But I'm stuck right off in trying to connect machine to mac with either usb or wifi. Couldn't really understand xtool troubleshooting guide. Might you have any tips?
I don’t run it on a Mac but I would suggest checking out the XTool D1 Facebook group. You will find other max users there that I’m sure would help out.
Hi there. Do you know if there is a pause button in laser box basic or on the xTool d1 itself? If you hit cancel, it stops the whole project and does not restart from the same place. Thank you.
Hi Ryan Your video did help a bit, but I'm still struggling with certain issues, hoping you can assist. Used to have a huge co2 laser, but found it not viable. Just wanted to have a 'hobby' unit, but really this 'Laserbox Basic' is a 'useless' program, and should not be the only software to 'control' this laser.(which I find well constructed) I also have Corel Draw to do my designing, but the Laserbox Basic is exactly what the name infers, 'BASIC'...Tried to do a 'rubber stamp' , but for the life of me, cannot get the program to 'engrave' the box around the font. You showed how to fill a box with the 'fill' button....mine does not seem to want to respond...Downloaded the latest 'firmware' V1-10-83....still nothing I believe they are in contact with 'Lightburn' .....and should be online sometime in December... but won't tell me if one has to pay for program or whether one can 'download' for free? If we have to pay, it might not be viable for someone like me (hobbyist) ..and furthermore our currency has 'crashed' against the dollar Regards Ian Thomson South Africa 26/11/21
Hello. I agree that the Laserbox basic could use a lot of work. I’m not sure if Lightburn will have a free version or not for XTool. I believe that software is $50 or $60 USD but I’m not sure since I don’t own it yet but I’ve heard it’s worth it. The software really is the limiting factor of the machine but I have heard that Lightburn might be available very soon. I know there are already members of the D1 Facebook group trying it out.
Hi, I needed to know what happens in your xtool D1 when you press START. When I do it on mine a window appears loading the job that takes a while to finish. Other times it stays at 99% forever, it doesn't get out of there. When it does, another window pops up saying it loaded successfully and asks me to press the start button on my device. I don't know which button that is! I can only access the Laserbox start button if I exit that window, and when I try to press start, it does it all over again. I'm in a Loop. Another thing, F6 doesn't work on my laserbox.
The start button is the silver button on the top front right of the machine. You only ever need to mess with that if you are using Wifi. If your computer is hooked up with a USB-B cable you won't need to wait or worry about it.
@@BusterBeagle3D Hi, thanks for your reply, unfortunately I must have a problem with my xtool d1! Yes, I need to use wifi. It is 2.5 meters from the router. When I click the Start button on the device, the light flashes orange 2 times fast, changes color and nothing happens. Does not start recording. I've already contacted support to see how they can help me.
Your videos are wonderful. Thank you. When you added a line around the picture, you got the cut, but then it changed the engrave speed from 100 mm/s to 50 mm/s. I notice then the max engrave speed becomes 80 mm/s. Do you know why? In my D1 manual is suggests the engrave speed for basswood to be 100 mm/s, but now I cannot use that speed. Also, if you do not want to cut, how would you prevent that? Also, it looks like they removed the home button on the working section where you can fame and start. I assume that is because the D1 doesn't not have a home position. Is that correct?
I just got my D1 today and assembled it now I am in the learning phase. how do you focus the laser? This was an excellent tutorial , thank you so much.
Pull down the lever on the right of the laser and have the tip of that touch the surface of your piece and then tighten the side screw. That will be the focus laser height.
Absolutely best instructional video I have seen on this software. A bit embarrassed to admit, but I couldn't figure out why I was only seeing the engrave menu. Thanks and keep up the stellar work.
Thanks for the video. I have the same frustration with selecting layers. The selector icon in the header menu is not even selectable. I could not find where to edit materials or thicknesses for future work. I have also had ghost layers that frame bigger than the image causing the laser module to crash into the frame. Need to power on and off to reboot the computer board to erase ghost layers. Also sometimes the image does not import into "working" window causing me to work blind with the starting blue dot. Have you had these issues? Little hyperlinks on dither modes with explanations would have been helpful. Thanks again.
Hello. I have had some issues with the machine when trying to use the wifi. I have had some issues where it seemed to have a mind of it's own. I have not seen that when connecting directly through the USB port however. There was a little hyperlink that should have shown up to show examples of the different dithers, just not a specific explanation of what each one does.
This is the most educational and well read thru tutorial I have seen regarding the D1 and software. You have a like and subscribe from me. Thanks for making this video
Great video, thank you. Question, do you have to manually place the laser where you want to cut in your field or will it go to the place you have you pic in the field? Thank again Dan
Once you go to burn you will see a little blue dot. Where that little blue dot is in the program is where the program thinks your laser is in the relation to the piece you want to burn. Laserbox basic is really not a coordinate type of program. Without limit switches it's somewhat difficult to always hit the exact same spot on the laser.
You just download the software for the machine. Laserbox basic is free but if you want to use the more popular Lightburn software that I a paid software.
